Petrichor

Petrichor (Oil Version) Review This smells like drinking icy cucumber and melon-infused water under a vast, open mountain sky. I don’t pick up any earthy or "soil tincture" notes at all—just a fresh, watery blend of cucumber and melon. It’s a delightfully crisp and aquatic scent, but not quite what I’d expect from something named Petrichor. A little more wet earth would have helped it live up to its namesake. That said, I enjoy it nonetheless! I love fresh, airy fragrances—there’s something about them that feels like a cleansing renewal for the soul. Longevity & Performance: 💧 Lasts about 6 hours on my skin. 💨 Projects fairly well with a light, musky sillage. For those who doused themselves in Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon body spray in the ‘90s, this will hit you with a solid punch of nostalgia. 🥒🍈✨

To me, it smells like the steamy rain on hot concrete. The storm rolls in after a sunny day and it rains for 20 minutes. The steam rising as the sun comes back out. I’m disappointed in these reviews. The oil version is a staple of mine but the last two I bought were probably back last summer. Talk of a new formulation worries me. Though I may already have it. I have thunderstorm oil and that one is nice.. but it’s really just grassy dirt. The aquatics are more profound in this one. Demeter can nail the dirt scent really well and I mostly get that in thunderstorm whereas Petrichor is more true to the name. To my nose atleast I sense no cucumber melon. It leans more dollar store shower gel with a name like mountain fresh or something.

Pretty much Thunderstorm with the "rain" vibe turned up...there's a bit of sweetness in here too that I can't quite put my finger on...it's not breaking new ground by any means, especially for Demeter, but this is very good...

You'll get something of a petrichor effect after a considerable drydown but Thunderstorm is better yet. Then again, my bottles are a few years old so I know nothing about possible recent reformulations.

riding through the night after a chilly rainstorm is exactly what this smells like, if you know the smell of wet roads and a little bit of grass, this is it.

Yep, it evokes freshly rained-upon grass and concrete, but Thunderstorm does it a bit better. I couple them with Grey Flannel and can't keep my nose away.

Wonderful single note frag. I do smell cucumbers tho. Recommend

love it. knew I would. calone-y? yes, if you think about it. plasticky? a little, in the middle. aquatic notes you might pick up in any designer mens' cologne? YEAH. but my friends. we might call the scent of the earth after rain with a single word, but it's composed of tens of different scents, and I truly feel like the multiple weird notes in here come together in the coolest display of simple artistry. it's fresh and dark (the plasticky, kind of burnt note isn't stronger than the more natural/general ones, but it really reminds me of asphalt! and as a city boy, it really pulls me into the rainy atmosphere more), polite and distinct, grainy and smooth. a little masculine, but can probably be demure enough, esp with how Demeters wear off (most folks) in a heartbeat. definitely in a different VEIN of similarity than Dirt, but paints an excellent picture. can not wait to try every layering combination with this. SCORE!

This one smells great! It's not exactly a true "after a summer rain" petrichor smell, but close enough I suppose. I wore it a couple times and it was nice. It was subtle enough to forget I had it on, catch a whiff, and wonder what the interesting smell was before remembering. I am enjoying using my sample bottle up by spraying it on the shower curtain before taking a shower. The bathroom still smells like it after a few days, so this is a very long-lasting scent.

I think the note description in this section is accurate, and is the most dirty (asphalt/ metallic dirt that is), Aquatic and fresh scent. But also, it is more aquatic and sweeter than it is fresh. There's also a very subtle grassy green note under as well. This is definitely a photo realistic scent but it's too niche to be wearable. That being said for sent profiling this is good.

It doesn't smell like how I expected at all, it's giving CUCUMBER all caps, but after the initial surprise/disappointment(?), it grew on me super quickly. It's refreshing in the summer and smells kind of sophisticated to me. I wore it for all of the fashion week events I've attended so far, so maybe I just associate it with good memories. Either way, no regrets.

I like putting it on radiators around my house to create a nice smell. I'm less a fan of actually wearing it. it does not give petrichor to me, or at least what I understand that scent to be

I have the perfume oil rollerball. It's not exactly the same as petrichor, but it does have a similarly bracing mineral tang. I like to layer it with the Demeter lilac sometimes.

Watery notes are much stronger than earth note which feels like a shadow. Not exactly the smell of earth after rain but quite a good aquatic scent with good moderate perfotmance.

Not enough dirt to really be photorealistic petrichor for me. It is a bit good weird, and reminds be of laundry dried outside in the humid Minnesota air.

It really resembles petrichor. Just with a hint of pepper. One of the stronger pals amongst the other Demeter stuff in the means of longevity.

It smells like someone made floral candy with rain instead of rosewater, sweet and aquatic, and I'm not getting much dirt from it.

Strange citrus and rubber on my skin. It's not petrichor, but I don't hate it. I smell like a grey-tire-rubber orange rind.

Not really petrichor, more of a sweet, aquatic fragrance. Still smells pretty good tho.

Smelling it straight out of the bottle, it has a generic cologne smell. However, almost immediately upon application to the skin, it takes on a sickly sweet smell that becomes more ripe the closer you smell it. It's definitely quite close to the smell of damp, decaying plant matter- if you've ever let a pile of leaves or mowed grass sit on your lawn for a month without getting rid of it, that's the smell you can expect from Petrichor. On its own, I would say it's not especially wearable, but layered with other fragrances it can become quite a pleasant note- it pairs well with musk, wood, and more savory scents, but not so well with anything sweet unless you want to amp up its smell of decay.

If you’re seeking a scent reminiscent of wet cement, this fragrance might not meet your expectations. It leans more towards floral notes, which, in my experience, is somewhat different from the description provided on the website. As a relatively new perfume enthusiast with limited experience, I found this fragrance to be quite sharp, contrary to the softer scent I was anticipating. While it’s not my favorite, it’s not entirely unpleasant. One concern I have is that the scent may change with warmth, developing a muggy quality and eventually evolving into a musky aroma as time progresses. This was a blind purchase, and although it’s not my preferred scent, I will still wear it occasionally.

Surprisingly warm, salty, and musty. There is that freshness of new rain and brisk cucumber/watermelon rind, but buried behind artificiality. Tangy and metallic while refreshingly blue. Curiously nostalgic, but imperfect. Bittersweet. Almost gets it, but close enough to be worth trying, even though it doesn’t nail it. Projects well and has intriguing nuance. Quite heady.

Bought a sample as I’m on a petrichor journey amongst others, but I was disappointed. Just doesn’t hit for me. Layered with Thunderstorm it’s a bit nicer. But as others have said, I instead just prefer Thunderstorm on its own.

It's giving cucumber more than it does petrichor. The earthiness and the concrete scent is missing for me. Still a pretty pleasant scent just not in the way it's supposed to be.

There is definitely some sort of melon note in this that bothers my nose, but outside of that it's a good replication of the smell of Petrichor. Doesn't stay very long :(

This smells like a very overbearing men's cologne to me with a muscular cucumber superhero note crashing in on it if that makes any sense whatsoever

Very alcoholic on first spray, got a bit more of the soil on dry down but just faded away on me. Smelled way better in the bottle.

I don’t get any sort of water or soil notes. I just get fresh linen. Overspraying makes it soapy

Tried this and Thunderstorm looking for the perfect rain note to layer with black coffee and rose. This is not rain, or the smell of Petrichor. The first thought of when I put this abomination to my nose was: Halloween Decorations. Latex masks with sweat condensation. Musty old fabrics, fog machines, moldy boxes. Cheap glow in the dark plastic spider webs. Synthetic, wet and musty. It immediately went in the trash. No third sniff. Do not recommend as it smells wet, but not like fresh rain.

I'm very sorry to say that to my nose, this smells nothing like rain, or the earth after rain, or anything like it. There is a sharp, dull smell to this, I would associate it with some harsh smelling chemicals in a workshop or cleaning agent. I'm afraid to say, very unpleasant. Not just nothing like petrichor, but a little repulsive. I tried a few times, but can't seem to derive anything but mild disgust from the scent. :(

for whatever reason i bought this even AFTER testing it in store lmao... i think that just the concept of petrichor excited me so i hadn't given it much thought >_< i'm normally really impressed by demeter frags but this one is just not it. smells absolutely nothing like rain or wet asphalt to me, it's just giving really strong icky men's cologne... i've been trying to force myself to like it but i'm just not a fan lol.

Yuck yuck yuck. Do not buy off amazon. If you've ever ridden on Soarin' in Walt Disney World you've smelled this weirdly orangey(?) Cucumbery(?) scent. Reminds me of a fun ride, which is nice, but not much else good about it.

On me, this has a strong tart, sour smell. Doesn't really smell like petrichor at all. More like a raspberry tart that's gone a bit bad. I'd highly recommend getting a small sample to check how it reacts with your skin.

I'll start by saying i love watery and earthy notes/scents but this is not for me. It smells floral to me and immediately gave me a headache with one spray. Thunderstorm is where it's at as others mentioned.

I am reviewing new formulation (I think), and this is not petrichor at all. This is indeed some cucumber/melon type of scent, very disappointing. Nothing earthy.

Definitely not a rain scent. Cheap male toilet water smell from 00s. And it's too strong for a "rain" scent. Overpowering

I bought this perfume looking for an earthy smell, like after it rains on a summer day. When searching for a perfume this came up. I created an account to warn people DO NOT BUY THIS. The smell is terrible and it last forever. The only way to describe the smell was chemicals. If anyone has any recommendations for perfumes that I’m looking for I’m open for ideas. I just regret wasting my money.

A typical men's cologne with cucumbers - these are all the notes that I can detect in this scent. It's boring and unpleasant. Probably, my nose is very bad at appreciating such aquatic fragrances. The "When the rain stops" by Maison Margiela smells similarly. A big NO for me.

First let me say that generally speaking, I love Demeter scents. But this is the worst Petrichor scent I’ve ever smelled. I bought the big bottle before smelling and I was really disappointed. No Petrichor whatsoever. Smells sweet and sort of like men’s Cologne to me. Yuck.

I’m really disappointed by this fragrance. I don’t think it resembles the after rain smell at all. I cant feel any soil in this instead it has a weird sweetness to it that makes me nauseous.

Not sure why but it made me gag real bad. On skin it's disgusting. Smelled like something rotten.
