Play-Doh

WOW! What an absolute surprise. A lovely Fragrantica member sent me a sample of this and I've tried it today, after ignoring it for years. You see, I love the smell of Play-doh. All the vanilla and almond perfumes that get reviewed here that mention Play-doh, well I must sample them all, because believe it or not, some of us DO want to smell like a glob of Play-doh. But this has such mixed reviews, and many say this smells nothing like Play-doh, so I passed it by. While I agree that this is not very Play-dohy to my nose (at least the scent I remember from the 70's and 80's), it does have that perfect vanilla and almond combo that I love so much. My husband said it smelled like Play-doh to him, so YMMV. This starts out with sweet vanilla and a bit of candle wax, almost like a birthday cake with blown out candles on top. It also has some wintergreen, and I can see the similarities to Hypnotic Poison. It has that root beer vibe to it. The wintergreen burns off after a while and then the almonds pop out. I started to smell Jordan almonds (confetti) wafting by. It's very linear in the dry down, a sweet vanilla almond. It also lasted surprisingly long for a Demeter, I could easily smell it 4 hours later. This was a great cheap thrill for this almond lover and I'm definitely buying a full bottle.

I love the Play-Doh-y sweet plastic accord that Profumum Roma Dolce Acqua, Confetto, Hypnotic Poison, Orgasmo, Platino and other fragrances have, so of course I had to try this out for fun. The reviews were right, this is surprisingly good and long lasting; it’s great for layering or to boost the Play-Doh effect in other fragrances. I enjoy this scent and will wear it for fun, use as a room spray or as my car’s personal perfume. I like it and it’s cute that my Mercedes will be smelling like Play-Dohy vanilla and almonds. Nostalgic! I love all types of perfume, indie, niche, designer and fun novelty scents like this too. Demeter should be appreciated more.

Doesn't last very long on me. Smells like Play-Doh and kind of like vanilla. Very light and reminds me of my childhood, would definitely wear this again.

i don't know why this fragrance is so polarizing, this smells almost exactly like play-doh!! (minus saltiness.) what a great nostalgic scent

vanilla candle is all i got, boyfriend got straight alcohol ^^; but i still like it. reminds me of my great aunt's farm house. and longevity is decent for Demeter! bought this impulsively alongside Montale's Orchid Powder cause of how many people were saying it smelled like a new doll, dollhouse plastic....just thought i should mention that here for everyone hoping they'll do a nostalgic line branching off this. you guys remember the yummi land dolls? was obsessed with those....the fake plastic-y sweetness of a scented doll really is wonderful ^_^

not really what i was expecting. not sure it really smells like play doh, atleast not to me. i love the play dohy smell and i dont really feel its there here which it definitely should be lol. im not sure if i like it or not really. has a vanilla/watery/minty smell to it. very strange. the initial smell has a terrible whiff of vodka, yuck. thought i would love this, a little disappointed. growing on me though.

I blind-bought this at a warehouse sale event at a local perfumery. It really does smell like Play-Doh, of course not exactly. I can absolutely smell the almond note that others have point towards. It's not exactly as salty. It does have that uncanny, uncooked flour quality to it. It's bizarre. I can't stop wearing it.

smells just exactly like play Doh. Stronger than a lot of Demeter's fragrances, a light hand is advised, but i love that smell, and will always have Play Doh in my fragrance library.

Smells just like Play-Doh! A nice, warm, sentimental scent. I think it could be fun to layer it.

Vanilla and sugar! Not really like Play doh but very pleasant.

good longevity and sillage for a synthetic fragrance, but sadly, you can smell that its artificial. I recognise vanilla and... freshly unboxed plastic? Sorry, not for me.

Smells nothing like playdough, deeply disappointed.

Just, no. I really wanted to like it as it was a desired blind buy, but I had to return it. It has vanilla plus almond notes and the opening is very sharp, synthetic alcohol-like and makes me nauseous. :( It is underwhelming on its own, but downright horrible on my skin. Although I like the smell of generic modeling clay, I never used play doh brand much as a child and don't remember its scent that well, so maybe it actually smells like it? Idk. EDIT: I actually bought Play Doh to compare :D. Its aroma is very different, saltier and lighter.

When I was little I loved to put my nose to Play-Doh. This fragrance perfectly recreates the scent of Play-Doh! I don't know how they did it although I'm trying to figure it out. It seems like the notes would include vanilla and perhaps a vanilla flower like a white floral- possibly gardenia or a white heliotrope. It's definitely got actual vanilla. A fun nostalgic fragrance It's got a good projection for a Demeter frag and it can be too much if you spray liberally. One spritz is enough. Where to wear this? Children's birthday parties. This is such a sweet innocent scent that would suit a child (boy or girl) skin chemistry much more so than an adult's skin chemistry but adults can wear this to look "cool" and to play with their kids at parties. I wore this the other day to a friend's kid's 5th birthday and she loved how it smelled. If you like innocent scents and you were fond of Play Doh you'll love this I love how creative the noses at Demeter Fragrance are! I love it

Play-doh!! I couldn't resist. To me this is pretty close to what I remember Play-Doh smelling like, however it's a little more vanillic than I would expect. I was actually expecting (and hoping for) some very artificial, chemically, rubbery, true-to-life Play-doh, but what I get here is a gourmand version of Play-doh, and to me it almost smells like a cheap knockoff of Hypnotic Poison. Don't get me wrong, I still like it, it's just not exactly what I was expecting. That being said, I'm pretty sure no one could make a smell more Play-doh-y than Demeter! I would wear this once in a while just for fun, but I think people would look at me strange if I wore it in public. They would probably think I was just wearing some super cheap vanilla that smelled like plastic!

It's funny several people say 'who'd want to smell like Play-Doh' but primarily it has a vanillery smell & how many people wear a frag with vanilla as it's main note? Yes, it's kinda gimmicky, but in a sense, so is the whole Demeter range. I don't think this is bang on with the actual Play Doh smell but it does evoke those memories of old and also lasts on me for the whole day, which hasn't been the case with other Demeter frags I've had. I like it for a nice change to the other stuff thats currently in my collection.

Had to have it for its quirky value. It was a blind buy and my first smell of it i didn't like it. Really wanted to like it because of my love of Play-Doh as a child. First i get a huge blast of alcohol/vodka smell, which made me wrinkle my nose a mumble "eeeww", but after that you definitely get Play-Doh. After a little while it grew on me and i started to like. On the skin i get nothing really, but i didn't buy it to wear, i bought it because its quirky and fun and it certainly is that.

i recently bought this from a website quite cheaply out of pure intrigue to see if it really does smell of play doh...and it does!!kind of almondy sugar and custard cake is the only way to describe it. and i actually quite like wearing it during the day, my kids love it which at age 5 and 10 says it all really, probably would only recommend for kids :)

At first spray, this smelled like Hypnotic Poison but cheaper and less complex. It remained very strong and far too sweet. It doesn't smell like play-doh while you are wearing it. It gave me a headache. I just wanted to wash it off. It was a good idea for a perfume though, if it did smell like play-doh, the strength wouldn't have been a problem.

Smells quite a bit like melted vanilla bean ice cream, there’s a distinct “vanilla bean” note to this. There is a heliotrope note to it as well but this is very much a vanilla salted dough fragrance. The salt note is quite pleasant and different. It is not exactly like play dough but it is a nice salty doughy, slightly floral vanilla bean.

WOW! I love the smell of modeling compounds in general ("massinha de modelar" or "Super Massa" in Brazil), gouache paint, crayons, mimeograph papers, everything that reminds me of my childhood at school... :D Happy times.

It is a little bit like play-doh, but not exactly. My son and I compared the perfume with the real thing. The perfume does not capture the briny salty earth smell that play-doh has.

Also smells like a delicious vanilla pastry dough--for cookies or a tart crust. This is fun. Perhaps for a child begging to wear perfume. Does not smell bad. A surprise.

I cant believe how people say Hypnotic Poison smells like Play-doh, but not Yum Pistachio Gelato and Bianco Latte. I think people dont know how play-doh smells like.

Nasty! I saw this for sale on eBay. Why on earth would someone want to smell like Playdoh? From what I can remember, it pretty much stinks.

One of the nostalgic flavours of my childhood, but this time my nose gets to experience it, and not my mouth!
