Popcorn

I am going to write a review of this because I can see this perfume has some haters and unlike them, I LOVE IT. I'm not going to lie to you, it took me awhile, but here we are. This is straight up freshly popped, buttered movie theatre popcorn. If you've ever gone to a megaplex and used the self-serve butter machine to put some butter on your popcorn, that is exactly what this smells like. Unfortunately for Demeter, the yellowish color of this perfume looks a little TOO much like that liquid butter from the machine and I thought my neck and wrists were going to be oily. I had to work up the nerve to spray it on. I love buttered popcorn, but it needed just a little something more..... Then, in a flash of brilliance, I came up with the idea to layer it with something sugary to make it a bit more gourmand. I layered it with Philosophy Sugar and *poof* I got a freshly made KETTLE CORN smell. Wow, I smell so good, I want to lick my wrists! To be honest, almost every single person who has smelled this today has complimented me. So, this has quickly become a favorite of mine. It really calls to mind a day of summer fun at the fairgrounds. I'm sure you've seen those kettle corn makers making it up fresh right before your eyes. I always HAVE to buy fresh kettle corn, whether I'm hungry or not. Well, now I get all the smell and none of the calories! So, some might laugh at Demeter for making such quirky fragrances, but no one else does what they do! Thank you, Demeter, for making me giggle like a kid today.

Popcorn of Demeter doesn't smell like popcorn IMHO. It opens sour on the skin then evolves into a soft dewy cinnamon cake scent extremely close and lasts 3 hours. I certainly would not recommend it if you're dreaming of a fragrance bringing out the sweet salty caramel and yummy burnt butter of popcorn.

It's like popcorn from the big yellow bag. There is also a weird smell before it dries that smells like lacquer paint from a can. Overall I like it. It fades quickly though.

OOF! This is absolutely awful. I'm forced to wonder whether my sample might have gone bad, because there's no way this was intended to smell the way it does to me. I was hoping for the scent of walking into a movie theater. I get a horrific chemical stench that reminds me mainly of nail polish remover. Underlaying this is a faint hint of something approaching the scent of that stuff they put on popcorn in movie theaters but aren't legally allowed to call "butter". A hint of synthetic "butter flavored topping" and nail polish remover, yup, that's this scent. Yikes. It gets better as it dries down- at least, the screechy nail-polish stink fades & it's more like an approximation of a butter scent, maybe even starting to become slightly sweet, but the dry-down isn't worth that awful opening! Sorry, Demeter... I love you, but not this scent. UPDATE: 2/25/22: I think this sample might indeed have gone bad before it reached me. I had a decant of another perfume in the same kind of plastic vial with a screw-on sprayer, and I recently discovered that if the sprayers on these aren't fastened completely tight, air can get in. This other decant seemed to have developed the same kind of sour, nail-polish-remover odor that I remember Popcorn having when I tried it, so I'm willing to give Demeter the benefit of the doubt on this. Changing my vote from "Hate" to a less harsh "Dislike".

I don't remember where I read it. I think it may have been on Demeter's actual page. But, one person hit the nail on the head with their description. This is 100% stinky dog feet. If you've ever smelled your dog's feet after they have sweated through them a lot. That's this smell. Like day old corn chips. I like to smell it, but I'm not going to wear it.
