Rain

This is a miracle of perfumery to me, freshest thing I've every smelt. Fully smells like you've been swimming in a waterfall and now it's raining i.e. no soap or shampoo on you and you're totally clean drenched in rain. It stays the same too on dry down, incredible. I have a bunch of demeter perfumes and have found them wildly hit and miss, e.g. the dragonfruit and some of the other fruit ones have a distinct toxic toilet cleaner smell in the opening to me. Some others I I totally love. Rain is just amazing Add: I've since tried MFK Aqua Universalis Cologne Forte and Aqua Universalis Forte (the stronger, very different, one). Rain is very similar to Universalis Cologne Forte which is also an incredible perfume. Universalis is slightly more subtle, projects less and doesn't last as long as Rain. I think Universalis you need to put quite a lot on to project at all but it's absolutely divine for your own blissing out I'm in a waterfall feeling...I love them both I can't say which I love more, but obviously I'll be wearing Rain more because it's about a 20th of the price ☺️ Also I generally don't like layering, I like linear clear scents which are hard enough to find without piling them on top of each other to create confusing combinations, that said, I have found Rain adds longevity and a bit of aqua and sophistication to linear fruit scents, e.g I've been layering it with W.Dressroom Peach and got a better more subtle but projecting peach than any expensive Peach perfume I've tried. Plan to try layering with other linear scents. The Peach is like Peach juice mixed with sparkling mineral water. Not Peach soda sugery, just fresh and watery. Really cool.

At first spray I thought "What? Ugh, fail Demeter, this SO does not smell like rain." I was disgruntled and went about my chores. A few minutes later I went outside with the garbage and it began to rain and the air around me was filled with a pungent smell. Could it be? Yes. It most certainly was! Demeter had NAILED IT AGAIN! Apparently when storm fronts move in, especially in wooded/forested areas like mine(MN) the barometric pressure changes and the plants and trees release oils into the air and are carried in the wind. This causes a very particular smell. This is what Demeter bottled in "Rain". I was totally shocked. And very impressed :)

Curious why there are no notes to this. I have the 8.8ml roll on perfume oil and I love it, but don't wear it often as that doesn't go far. Would love a larger spray bottle of it to wear more often, but for now this will do. Just really curious what the notes are that get us here. I don't know how to describe it, it's certainly a "rain" scent, but a very specific time in the rain. There's something very metal to this. It is one that needs to be experienced to understand, and even then, this will leave you scratching your head. Curious indeed.

I used this bottle up so fast! I wish it stayed for longer.. You can perfectly imagine this scent if you go outside when it's pouring rain. I thought the smell was interesting and a bit tangy (not negatively and NOT like sweat or BO), until I did that. It is perfectly rain. Im amazed they managed to make this. I love it and it is my favorite from demeter so far!! They are seriously experts at watery scents! So accurate that it's almost awkward. Personally not a fan of their spiced scents though...

This scent is so so lovely. It really smells like a winter/spring rain and cold humidity to me. I love it so much. It smells like when I would wait for the bus in the morning in front of my grandma's house.

"Rain" is my favorite fragrance, perhaps because even if it's bottled, it doesn't feel like a perfume at all.

It really does smell of rain :) It's a wonderful fragrance but so very short lived.

Smells like fresh lemon water.

Really disliked this fragrance after initial purchase which was a blind buy. The best way I could desribe my first impressions was the smell of singed damp clothes! If you've ever tried eagerly to dry a damp garment infront of an open fire and got it too close... that horrible singed smell it gives off, thats what this fragrance reminded me of! Even with the dry down it still seemed somewhat overly chemical and synthetic. At first thought about maybe using it as a room freshner but I give it a few more shots and eventually it won me over, others have commented on how clean and fresh it is! I don't get the singed damp garment impression from it anymore. Now it reminds me of Vodka! I'm most likey to reach for this one after a nice hot shower on a really rainy day!! I guess shower fresh + rainy day = demeter rain for me!!

Judging by the name I’m pretty sure this was supposed to smell like rain, so the question is : did Demeter succeed in capturing the smell that so many people love ? In short I’d say no. I mean it smells ok, opening with rather sharp floor cleaner notes but within a short period morphing into something sweet, slightly cucumber calone-like that ends up like so many other so-called aquatics. It’s rather fresh, soapy and clean and could easily be marketed as a unisex “cologne” in the vein of 4711 (or even a contemporary men’s beach scent) etc. without anyone raising an eyebrow. It is very green to me and rather than rain, I envision leaves in a newly watered blooming garden. Nothing to dislike, but a rather ordinary scent of chemical melon with a poor longevity.

Nice one! My small splash bottle of Rain arrived today, as I was curious about some of the nature-inspired scents Demeter makes. I find this scent light and pleasant. It has an initial cucumber-like freshness with a touch of violet or other elusive floral, along with lightly scratched orange peel. When I try to smell it globally from a bit farther away, and when it has dried down a bit, it could be reminiscent of that just-starting-to-rain smell when large summer drops hit warm, dusty pavement. On the whole, a good value, as it is fun and smells more interesting and complex than the affordable price it can be bought at.

Very sweet and wonderful. My preference for a rain scent would be their Petrichor perfume, although I did enjoy using up the roll-on of this. In comparison to their other water scents this is much cleaner and more refreshing than their heavier 'Thunderstom' perfume or crisp 'frozen pond'. Very aquatic, but not as much of a dirty, ozonic rain for me to wear more often. Definitely purchase if you're okay with reapplying frequently, but for the price I personally don't feel bad going through a bottle quickly.

It's giving straight up orange. I don't understand how this happened, either, because my sample enchanted me enough to go in for a 100ml bottle! Then I received the bottle, and bam, orange. That being said, I still like it? I am a very sweaty person, and this scent takes on this really nice sea-breeze-esque flavor when I've sweated in it. It's also very refreshing at every stage of wear. I don't feel like I wasted my money, but I probably should've gone for Wet Garden instead.

I love Rain - especially on a hot humid summer day! Unlike Thunderstorm, which has a moldy wet-dirt and ozone overtone, THIS down-pour is fresh and clean. Makes me feel like I'm sitting in tall grasses by a mountain lake with cool raindrops falling on my skin in the middle of a summer shower. Lasting power is about the same as other Demeter frags I've tried...two to three hours for me. But hey, it cools me down! :)

Accurate rain smell with ripe honey dew melon and a little cucumber. Clean, blue, freshness with minimal saltiness produces aquatic vibes. Heavy application results in med projection that’s fleeting even when present. But, that is accurate to how you catch whiffs of rain. Enjoyable enough. Not in love, but happy with it. Can’t help but wonder how it could be done better or made more complicated.

Imagine the hottest day in summer of your childhood, sweating while doing just nothing, earth and plants screeming for water and then there comes the rain. It's cool refreshing rain drops on the hot streets, to me. Nothing else, maybe a hint of wet pure soil, but most of it, it's the still sunwarm street mingling with the pure scent of rain drops, very likable.

Rain is a calone overdose with mineral and ozonic nuances. I'm normally not a fan of calone but here it works, truly evoking a sweet fragrant garden (with a melon patch!) during a warm rain. I've lived in many rainy climates, and the warmer ones really do smell like this in the summer!

It smells like a heavy watery rain along with some citrus, melon, and green notes. I was really blown away by how well this comes across, and how addictive it smells. The price point is so cheap. I bought this for someone else as a gift, but I may need to pick this one up for layering.

This simply smells of melon. It is a single note of melon, very light, fades quickly, fresh, great for spring, good for teenage girls as a first perfume.

This is less a review than a bizarre diary entry but ok. I adore the actual smell of real rain/ozone and I chase it in the perfume without success. I blind bought all the "rain" lines from Demeter in their cheapest forms to see if any had a hint of the smell I was looking for and this one is the only one that I didn't actively dislike. I put it on, was underwhelmed, layered it with Honey and Lime (also from Demeter) and created a horrible monster, washed it off. Immediately after washing it off I can smell SOMETHING on my sleeve that caused an immediate flashback to when I was a college freshman sitting in the lap of my inadvisable boyfriend at the time. I do not think about this man. I do not like this man. I do not even actively like the scent when I deliberately smell it on my wrist. But somehow I, a middle-aged high-powered career woman and happily married mother of children, am immediately rocketed back to this feeling of juvenile first love. It is a deeply pleasant sensation of nervousness, excitement, defiance, and (forgive me) arousal. I have no idea why this is. Perhaps this guy wore scent and I didn't recognize it at the time, but I am willing to bet he was not wearing this one. This is one of the stranger things I've experienced. As far as I can tell I needed to add the smell of Dawn dish soap to this perfume to even access it. But hey, it happened, and I am talking about it on the Internet. I would love to find out exactly what it is I am smelling.

Hmmm, The initial blast, I pick up sweet green notes that instantly (Instantly !!, - that is) evolve into something green-er, like lime. Then expands, because what you're smelling is dropped in cold water.. I can say it is akin to watermelon rinds, cucumber, in lime water, and a mysterious green note that I think is, well.... I went outside at at 3am in my backyard and snapped off a leaf, snapped it in two, smelled it .....and there it was!! Pittosporum, which to me, is an aquatic bitter green note. It is a cold scent No warmth whatsoever. So, now the visual: You're walking on a cold, foggy stone path. The fog is thick and cold. You are only comforted by the distant scent of pittosporum, and your lime trees from your garden surrounding your cold gray stone castle in back of you..... but there where you stand is a cold , expanding fog that goes on forever . down to the cold and foggy blue gray lake. You turn around and go back to your home after an hour of gazing where the scent becomes more comforting

For me this conjures up wet asphalt when the sun comes out after a downpour on a hot summer day. Interesting concept but I was hoping for something fresh and soothing. It has that synthetic character that I find in many Demeters. Update: Tried it again on a cool, rainy, breezy morning and as another reviewer mentioned, it does work better under such conditions so I've revised my rating. Still getting a vague, acidy melon and the formaldehyde base though, so it merits an ok rather than a like.

To me it does not smell like rain. I would describe the scent as a sweet citrus, like a sprite soda. Its strange to me how unlike rain it is considering Demeter has a realistic petrichor in Thunderstorm, which I prefer. EDIT: 7 months later I have changed my mind. It smells like the *aqua* on a conceptual level. Thunderstorm smells of damp earth in a very green and a bit dirty way. while this is clear water in the air. It is the fun kind of weird

My first Demeter fragrance. I’m a little disappointed and it really doesn’t smell like rain to me, or even give me a rain vibe or feeling. It smells very fresh and zesty. Very lemon, very refreshing, but doesn’t evoke rain to me. Something I don’t like, I’ve noticed it leaves a very oily residue on my skin that I’ve never found with another fragrance.

I don't think it smells like rain... for that, Demeter's thunderstorm is better. To me, it smells like the vegetable aisle in a grocery store. I think this is what the Easter bunny would smell like.

Clean and crisp scent but it literally flies out in seconds :-(

I was excited to see some Demeter fragrances at my local HEB since I heard some good things about them as affordable options. I love all things rain smell so was excited to smell this one, unfortunately this smells more like a cartoonish approximation of rain that rain itself. There is this lingering, salty aquatic note that feels like "blue" or like 'water themed birthday party" to me, rather than having the nice earthy and green notes I typically love in rain-emulating fragrances. Between the fragrances my store had (this one, Kitten Fur, Baby Powder, Sunshine, etc.) Demeter felt like a disappointment. I am still curious about trying Thunderstorm or Petrichor as I am always looking for an earthy rain scent with decent longevity, but they don't feel like safe blind buys considering things from this brand tend to lean distractingly artificial.

I wasn't very lucky with this scent. My first impression was very positive, it smelled cool and sharp. Sadly, after a couple times I wore it I suddenly became strongly disgusted, the sharpness was getting on my nerves - it no longer gave me the impression of a rain smell, rather, it smelled like an aluminum bucket of water, and it felt very synthetic. The smell did cling to the skin even after a rinse, and stayed on for at least 4 or 5 hours. My mother had a similar experience - initial liking, followed by extreme displeasure. What's worse, I'm now smelling the same note in Demeter's Firefly, Petrichor and Salt Air, and it's ruining these perfumes for me. I may now be sensitive to this scent, so I'd recommend giving it a few tries before buying it.

I love rain scents, especially when grounded with soaked earth and trampled greenery. At first spray, I thought this fit the bill--maybe a little fresher, sure, but still uplifting and sweet and wet. However, after that delicious first experience, this scent evolved into something far less enjoyable. It went from ozonic and natural to round and stagnant, like a plastic bucket filled with rain or a newly-cleaned toilet bowl. There is no petrichor note in this fragrance, no greenery, no white florals--just stale water.

Yes, there is a smell of water here. BUT IT IS NOT RAIN, I REPEAT IT IS NOT RAIN. My house is next to a fruit stall, they will put old fruit in a barrel filled with water for some reason, and I tell you the smell is exactly like this perfume, a smell like water but it does not have the vitality of rainwater but a stagnant smell, like a cellar full of stagnant water.

Sorry to report I hated this. Wanted to find a good rain scent for ages but I think I’m cursed to have them never smell as intended on my skin :( people mentioned citrus notes which I am getting but in the worst way imaginable... it smells to me like old dried up orange peel on the verge of moulding. Had to give it away because it made me gag unfortunately

Spicy grassy smell at the opening, which then becomes aquatic cucumber with a slightly powdery undertone in the drydown. The sillage is soft and the longevity is around 5 hours. Unfortunately, on me, Demeter Rain does not smell like actual rain at all. I would not particularly recommend it as a 'rain' fragrance.

I really dislike it, and I thought I would love it. It reminds me of some kind of very cheap bathroom soap I must have smelled at one point in my life. The petrichor is there, but it’s behind some kind of odd synthetic smell I can’t quite identify.

This smells like rubbing alcohol at worst and absolutely nothing at best. If you want an actual wet rain sort of sent their Thunderstorm scent is perfect.

An interpretation of the rain that you can easily find in one of those scratch and sniff books for 3-4 years old children. Puerile. Rating: 3/10

It does smell wet. A synthetic, green smell. A little sour perhaps. I'm not sure how it smells like rain though. Not a fan.

Literally smells like tears and mint, I hate it so much.

I hated this so much. I love the smell of actual rain. This smells like honeydew melon pulp that is starting to go bad. The first time I smelled it I disliked it but thought to take it to work and leave in the bathroom. I tried it again a few weeks later and actually gagged. I had to shower again and change outfits!

All I can say is that it smells terrible and is nothing like the fresh scent of rain.

Foul and incredibly synthetic.

This does indeed remind me of rain. I layer this with bath and body works kaleidoscope or glossier you first then I put 10 sprays of rain over the top before bed, after a shower. I could smell this for hours especially on my clothing and this is of of demeters longer lasting offerings. I can still smell it right now on my shirt in the morning! This smells sweet, aquatic and very fresh with some green vibes which make it even fresher. Perfect bedtime scent. If you like more synthetic perfumes like b&bw kaleidoscope, Glossier you or even juilette has a gun not a perfume you may enjoy this one. I swear there is ambroxan or iso e super in this or thats the vibes this is giving. ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENT PROFILES! I originally was scent a roller ball as a sample from the company when I placed a order snd loved it. I bought this on ebay for around $20 for the 4 ounce bottle and its going to last me a long time. The perfume oil smells exactly the same as the spray but the spray projects more which is always the case. I layer them to get a even longer lasting scent. I won't be repurchasing anytime soon because it will take me forever to get through what I have. I will use this before bed or only around the house but you can wear it out if you don't want a super loud fragrance punching people in the face. I did wear it to work once and my coworker loved it so much she bought it and now wears it to work. She does about 5 sprays and every now and then I catch a wiff of it. You will smell clean and fresh. FYI this has no gender, it is straight down the middle unisex, similar vibes to how calvin klein does unisex scents.

Okay, this really does not smell like rain to me. For most of my life I lived in the country, so I know the scent of rain on either green or dry grass, gravel and forests. I also know what the scent of rain on pavements and roadsides smell like. While I don't mind the scent of rain, it's not a favourite. Rain by Demeter strikes me as being too citrusy and watery. Natural rain has more of a musty smell. This trickery of a scent has a clean laundry kind of smell to it as well. I'm somewhat disappointed seeing that I was only having a conversation with a friend the other day about bottling the scent of rain, and became rather excited about testing this. I can't get past the citrus layers. Surprisingly Rain lasts a relatively long time, especially on the skin, which is rare for a Demeter scent. It's a pity that the lasting Demeter couldn't be a fragrance I liked.

One of the only aquatic/ ozonic scents I own. Definite cardamom in here which does evoke memories of Hermes - Le Jardin Apres la Mousson (albeit this is a weaker, thinner, less complex version).. I get some sour cucumber and a summer rain aura - agree with the previous reviewer's comments of the moments before summer rain falls, when the oils of plants are evaporating into the atmosphere. I did not enjoy this on first sniff - but after wearing it for an hour the sharper notes disappeared as is often the case and the mellowed cardamom came to the fore. It's a clean, light and easy scent to wear in the day or at the office, I also spray it on my pillows sometimes and would buy this as a room spray if it was available. This isn't going to seduce anyone, it's a meditative, aloof scent.

This fragrance is very interesting. It's made up of all the notes that evoke water. That being said it has water, alcohol, and aldehydes and aquatic notes. This is chemically created to resemble rain as it's falling and you're out in the rain, that wetness and that smell because falling rain does have a smell. It's hard to capture it in a bottle but this did a decent job. The notes that create the effect include watermelon, melon, aquatic notes (which just means water and aldehydes). It's sparkling and a tad unusual but I like it. Because it's fresh I wear it as an after shower scent. It does not last long and in fact it's over like a rain that doesn't last more than 30 minutes, but I like it. And I have worn it on rainy days. That's when the scent really kicks in.

Rain is quite a perfume somewhat captured one type of the nice feeling rain, in a tropical place full of green, lush vegetations, might smell like. It starts off quite sweet, as in a zest citrusy sweet smell without too much of the typical citrusy-ness. Somehow I think I can smell a little bit fir, and sometimes a tiny hint of pepper which brings out the coolness of the perfume. As the perfume develops, it gets a little bit stale, like a water-downed version of the above, and totally minus the fir-like cooling and open-space/forest smell. Nice perfume, interesting to try on. I actually find it works nicely as a traditional cologne with a modern leafy sweet twist.
