[NOV. 2023] Can confirm, Demeter's Tomato is a gorgeous green scent. Christopher Brossius can't miss when it comes to green genre perfumes. If you really have to, purchase his C.B. I Hate Perfumes collection on eBay. If you are looking for something more grassy however, this does not completely fit the bill. In fact, Hermes' Garden Sur Le Toit contains both grass and tomato leaf notes-- Hermes wins for the impression of meadow grass-- but if you came off disappointed by Hermes' overreliance on watery-airy atmospheric vibes (to the point of diluting the greenery), Demeter's Tomato is more accurate to the smell of garden leaves rather than grass dew. Unfortunately, both Hermes' Garden Sur Le Toit and Demeter's Tomato perform with mid longetivity and unless you can find me a grass/hay/tomato leaf perfume with the performance of the sadly discontinued Cartier's IV Fougeuse (the holy grail outdoor hay perfume IMO), you will have to make due (or dew) with the performance of either Hermes' Le Toit, or Demeter's Tomato. Fortunately, I found my holy grail green-gourmand at Libertine Parfumerie downtown: Robert Piguet's Zazen. Warm cereal, toasted rice, green corn leaves, vanilla powder. Extremely realistic but a whopping $335AUD in comparison to Demeter's $35AUD. Cartier's discontinued IV Fougeuse is an eye-watering $400AUD. If you have the patience to save, I highly recommend it. With either Fougeuse, or Zazen, you will have greenery that lasts a lifetime. If you're really desparate for price-performance quality and not U.S. based, prepare to wait 30 days after paying $50USD for shipping to your country after purchasing from the queen of greenery herself, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz (DSH Perfumes.) You can't beat the quality and passion of her works when it comes to Green genre perfumes, period. I highly recommend her Monet's Garden, or Re-Assess, Divine Garden (personally sampled back in 2019), or heirloom Dutchess County. UPDATE: You can prolong the longetivity of Demeter by spraying on the chest, and pits three times. When it dries, spray three extra times. It comes in 120ml for reason.

ok so due to some confusion in product picture vs. name, i ended up with tomato and not tomato seeds as i had initially thought. all well and good as i want to try both, even with seeds having such horrible reviews ^^; but anyway this is one of their most perfect recreations!!!! the smell of grandma's garden......they could make this an unofficial entry in Margiela's Replica series and end his whole career (im kiddinggg they dont have the strength or longevity of a proper perfume so that would never happen. but seriously if someone would take this exact scent and just amplify it i would pay significant money) this is 100% the top note i was dreaming of for DKNY women so im very happy. even if it doesnt last two shakes of a lamb's tail - having such a scent bottled is worth every penny <3

the myth ! the legend !! i always use demeter tomato as my go-to when trying to flip people's preconceived notions about fragrance on their head. i actually find green family fragrances to be the coolest of cool, chicest of chic, and still rather unexpected. tomato--which to my nose is more about the leaf and dirt than the fruit (don't worry about being ketchupy, there's no vinegar or sugar here !)--is the ultimate green scent. i always crave it as suggestions of spring arrive. does it last long ? nah. small bottle though -- carry it with ya in your bag and top off as so-desired. tomato is demeter fragrances at their best.

wearing this makes me feel like a little fairy living in somebody's garden and stealing their tomato leaves to make dresses out of. like most demeter frags it only last two hours but i DONT CAREEEE because its zingy, green, and nostalgic and the bottle is affordable. the color of this fragrance would be sunshine yellow. makes me want to eat big watermelon slices under a shady tree. 10/10

I second what @kiraagold said: it's "urban gardening hipster chick", and if you ever feel like you want to be that today, Tomato is the perfect choice. Doesn't scream "I'm vegan", but if a great fit for young millennial. Jokes aside, I really love this.

Smells like tomato, or rather, a tomato vine. I LOVE the smell of tomato vine. love, Love, LOVE! I use this as room spray in my home office to cheer myself up when I'm cooped up inside. Good on fabric. I don't wear as personal fragrance.

Pick-me-up is right. This is a spicy green tomato vine - the scent of a summer vegetable garden, a walk through the farmers market (my happy place). Doesn't last at all. But I'll spray it all over when I need a mood boost.

Very VERY green! Rub tomato leaves with your fingers and that's what this is. Great for layering with florals... unisex on its own.

Smells like if you pinch a tomato leaf or if you have a bunch of fresh cherry tomatoes.

This is absolutely fascinating. Demeter has managed to capture the smell of a tomato plant; vine, leaves, tomatoes, blossoms....the entire plant. This is what I smell when I visit my parents during the summer months and we walk out back to pick tomatoes fresh off the vine. This is very green, with a soft blossom vegetal-sweetness. It's beautiful. Had I not received this as a sample with my order, I would have never had the opportunity to try it as I'm unlikely to have picked it on its own. I am grateful Demeter included it. Never would have considered "Tomato" being a wearable scent, but I'm enjoying it so clearly it is. Wear time is around 4 hours and sillage is within arms length. Nice, subtle, pretty, and fairly unusual. I'm going to enjoy it for the summer and see what I can layer it with. I'll add an edit if I find anything interesting.

Completely perfect, right in the bottle. It's fresh and green and spicy and unmistakable. Go rub a tomato leaf, and this is how your hands will smell. I don't know how they did it, but they nailed it. There were 10 other fragrances in my Demeter order today, and this is the bottle I cannot keep my nose away from. On my skin, the green note fades and it's 90% pungent spiciness.

This is every urban gardening hipster chick sunbathing topless on the roof, stray honeysuckle and dandelion weeds overtaken by crushed tomato leaves and the great red globes ripening on the vine. A smudge of pollution and sweat and dirt sticks to the skin, but doesn't stop the invasive Organic Goddess green. Incredibly intriguing. I'd worship her in the summer.

I really like this scent, but as is all Demeter colognes, the longevity is the pits. Tomato smells like fresh picked tomatoes off the vine. Mixed with a spritz or 2 of Demeter Cucumber and it is perfect! A nice Summer scent when you want to stray from the Coconuts and Tropical Florals.

Realistic green tomato plant smell! I'll use it for layering or alone. Moderate performance. I love it! One of the best Demeter fragrances. Interesting layering combo Bvlgari Aqua Marine + Tomato

For me it was too strong, but my man used to like it very much, because he has oily skin or some skin chemistry which makes all the scents milder, so it suited for him very well and was nice.

This is more tomato (plant) than tomato (fruit), would love a little more sweetness and a lot more longevity but overall I really like this.

Opens with a realistic smell of tomato leaves, but quickly evolves into a soapy, cologne-like fragrance. Very fresh and still enjoyable.

Definitely smells more like a tomato plant than an actual tomato. Sort of citrusy and green. It's a nice scent, but I have to be in the mood for this one. The best use I've found for this perfume so far is as a neutralizer for other scents I've grown tired of. I discovered this by accident when I tried layering it, and it quickly killed off what I tried to pair it with (Clean Air). Since then, I have successfully used it to drown out Clean Skin and Donna Karan Cashmere Mist. Of course, I needed to be in the mood to smell tomato plant instead, but alas sometimes that can be a good change of pace ;)

Really disappointing. After smelling Kewpie Doll by Pearfat, I was on the hunt for a more affordable tomato fragrance to hold me over while I save up for a full bottle. I mean, it smells like tomato leaf. So it does the job I guess. but it's impossible to wear. I knew going into it that Demeter scents tended to be weaker/not last as long, but I kinda thought people were being dramatic. But they're not. This scent is unbelievably weak, and it lasts like

I bling bought this because i was looking for a tomato fragrance without additional notes in it but also without having to commit to something more high end just yet. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking for that specific tomato flesh smell, it does however, like many reviews state, smell exactly like the leaf. So yeah, fun fragrance to own but it unfortunately didn't satisfy my need to smell like a tomato. Also longevity is absurdly weak

This is exactly what a tomato plant (not the fruit) smells like. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want a preview, go to the grocery store and crush a little bit of the green stem of a tomato on your fingers. It's that. I like it as a novelty scent to pick up and sniff (Demeter is great for that), but it doesn't really work for me as a worn perfume - its not bad, its just too one-note. Tomato. I ended up giving it away.

Very green, my first thoughts are waxy leaves cracked open to reveal the juice inside. For some reason my mind goes to cactus or aloe before I would think of tomatoes. This has the same dominant green note as Demeter's Bird of Paradise.

Update: still not getting leaves or tomato from this (been crushing & sniffing the vines from the store a lot lately btw - pretty addictive), but I did realize that if it were called "rhubarb" I'd probably have liked it better, that's really what I'm getting. But like a more jammy desert rhubarb. ----------------- Huh, not what I expected. I thought it would be green, leafy and a bit sour-bitter maybe, like tomato plants. In actuality it's weirdly sweet and sour. "Tomato" would never come to my mind if I wasn't looking for that. It does have a tinge of *something* tomato-ish, that I can't pinpoint - maybe like a sweet tomato marmalade, if one made such a thing? [Edit: I think it's some shower gel The Body Shop or some place like that had when I was a kid with a tomato scent.] But it seems even closer to sugary lemondrops. And then a generic perfume smell under that.

In my mind this would be a sweet and spicy, bold zingy bloody mary or marinara sauce, heck i would have loved even a Cambells tomato soup can scent I have a Carrière Frères Tomato Candle that i cherish it’s perfect sweet creamy and salty tomato scent so i wouod have loved to have it as a perfume It’s not that, it’s a leaf or a plant, not actual tomatoes Disappointing

The greenness of the tomato leaf disappears after a few minutes, leaving a floral-sweet scent on my skin which would typically be defined as more feminine leaning. I was expecting something greener, perhaps saltier which I was hoping would layer well with POOL by Tsu Lange Yor. To sum sup, I am a bit disappointed!

Bought this based on reviews (and of course affordability) but I find the scent awful compared to CB I hate perfume - Memory of Kindness. This scent by demeter has a very sweet soapy aroma that doesn't evoke tomato's or their leaves to me.

First of all I would like to underline that this is not a Review about the specific perfume. I am a member of this beautiful Community, and for many years now since its release, I am in love with the perfume Vice Versa by YSL. Unfortunately it was a limited edition and after a while it disappeared, from the markets. I have tried to find it on the Web but the prices for the very few items that exist around the world are outrageous....That's why I came up with the idea to find another one, if possible, that could resemble it and I discovered this one. (I also noticed that just above the reviews there is the section "This perfume reminds me of....and there are 4 votes for V V). So I would like to ask/question the people who knew the smell of Vice Versa, how "close" the Tomato is to it...I would truly appreciate any answers from the viewers/readers. Must love tomato! This is another of the Demeter scents that doesn't really seem like a perfume, though I did use it as such. It smells EXACTLY like a freshly-picked garden tomato, warmed by the sun and with the stem still intact. I'm a tomato lover, and that scent is enticing when we're talking about the actual food, but this is an odd concept for a fragrance. Had a typical Demeter Pick-me-up spray's longevity (3-4 hours at best). Also, I accidentally spilled a bit of this on a wooden tabletop and it damaged the finish. (Maybe all perfumes do that? This was my only experience with a spill on wood, thank goodness.) Definitely one to try before you buy, or to use for triggering scent memories rather than attracting others with your beautiful scent. As always, though, your mileage may vary. :-)

I bought this and had it shipped directly to my uncle, several states away in Ohio for Christmas. He owns Old Milan Canal Farm in Sandusky, Ohio. If you live nearby, go see him at the Farmer's Market and tell him hello for me. Heirloom tomatoes are his specialty, but he knows a lot about a lot. Very smart man and a character to boot. He seems to have stepped out of a novel. A fiction not yet written. HA! He's been growing tomatoes for 37 years now and his reaction was, "It does smell like a tomato plant! How bizarre. :D" He grows tons of varieties of them, so knows the smells differ, but if he vouches for the similarity, then I believe it. He'd tell me if it didn't, trust me.

August 5 BC, Canada Dear Demeter Tomato, So many childhood memories to count growing up and helping my family to harvest tomatoes in the farm. Fresh and juicy , red and merry. Demeter Tomato takes me back in time, where farm lands are the best playgrounds, picking up flowers and farm fruits from the plant to the basket are enjoyable role playing games. The fragrance in my opinion is a combination of tomatoes and celery. The celery stalks dominated this beautiful country fragrance. Demeter Celery and Tomato... It's a lovely day!

Absolutely beautiful. Green, sharp, juicy. Smells like reaching your hand into a tomato vine, the prickle of the leaves, your fingers touching the smooth ripe red flesh, pulling and twisting until it breaks free. Unique and accurate. One of this fragrance house’s best offerings. It does dry down into a musky, clean-laundry scent. In my opinion, the dry down increases wearability, but some might be disappointed it doesn’t keep its leafy green all the way through.

I like this scent. It really does smell like tomato vines, a more subtle, perfume version of the tomato plant. It's funny how I don't much care for the strong smell of the plant itself. The scent on the plant readily clings to my hands as I work in the garden and is a bit cloying, but this fragrance is refreshing; it brings a little bit of summer to me in winter. I spray it on my hair, and it lasts quite a while this way.

I like it a lot, it is a very cheery bright laughing tomato and tomato vine! I can't see myself wearing this on its own... I'll have to find a way of layering it with something else to make it feel less like a red smiley-face! Or, I think I'll wear it on its own when I'm playing with my friends' babies in the playground and the park! The 2-5 year-olds seem to love this on me! :-P

For all tomato leaf scent lovers - this is a must! I really enjoy it, the only disadvantage is that all Demeter perfumes last only for 2-3 hours... But as I have it in my collection, I like only to sniff it from time to time, as it reminds me my grandma's greenhouse.. :)

100% the scent of fresh tomato plants growing. I am obsessed with this scent but it lasts for 15 minutes at most (really shockingly short- sometimes it is literally 5 mins), so sadly it is not a scent I would put on for the day or recommend to others.

Garden Heaux by SAMAR is the best tomato leaf scent I've ever smelled and compared to that, this is just fine. It's not bad and it's definitely tomato vine, but the sillage and longevity is weak comparitively.

Bought the original square shaped one on Mecari. I put mine in perfume fridge after buying it and then spritzed onto warm skin. Smells like the real deal! Not synthetic. Loving it. I wear this with Corsica.

Although this is a great concept,I didn't care for this one. This smelled like part tomato leaf/part cigarette ashes. I did not get any fresh tomato whatsoever. Oh well,at least it was only a sample.

This is lovely, but it sits much closer to the skin than Tomato Seeds. It captures more sweetness and meatiness, peel and stem of a ripe red tomato. I love it, but I prefer the seeds!
