Afloat

Reminds me of Red Door, but more modern. Orris and mimosa are both capable of smelling powdery and/or floral, so it's interesting to smell them together as the predominant notes. The outcome is softly romantic. All of the Derek Lam fragrances I've tried have a sort of classic vintage vibe, but in a pared down minimalist way. I'm 100% sure there's more than two notes in Afloat, just like the others in this range. But it doesn't really matter to me, that's just marketing. Final take: Interesting, yet unfussy. Easy to wear. Affordable. There's better things out there, but I'm happy to have this in my collection.

This smells at once familiar and comforting and yet unusually elegant and different. I'm getting a Champs Elysees vibe from this (obviously the mimosa), as though Afloat is an airy memory of CE or a stripped down version where the mimosa shines with the background of orris supporting it. The longer this is on my skin, the more appealing it is becoming to me.

To me, this is a sort of fuzzy white cotton t shirt scent. It has a comforting yet restrained quality to it. It doesn’t have any edges and works as a clean fresh sort of scent. It’s not my favorite of the line but it’s very nice. I detect something a little fruity too, like a tangy peach or orange. All smothered by a freshly dried white t shirt!

Smells powdery and "yellow flower" floral. A nice, light, "pretty" scent. It almost smells like a Narciso fragrance, and I believe there's musk in it. No sillage, but sometimes you want a subtle perfume. BTW, it smells nothing like "J'Adore"...if anything, I would put it as part of the "Clean Reserve" lineup.

I like this stuff! I am enjoying the whole line - nice size samples, almost roller ball size. I may not find my signature scent among them but I am surprised so many people are giving all of the Derek Lam collection such a hard time...

Synthetic, plastic-y sweetness that smells of cloyingly false florals. So, yes, they really are going through the whole Bath & Bodyworks line up and daring to charge 95$ a bottle for it. Buy the 14$ version and re-spray every few hours. You'll still save money. This whole line should be embarrassed of itself.

Soap, shampoo, synthetic citrus-floral. Might be a good fabric softener fragrance, but nobody spends $95 on fabric softener. Very disappointing...quantity over quality with this collection, I'm afraid.

Agree with others comment that this is as shampoo/dryer/sheet/generic "clean" floral as it gets. Also reminds me of Body Shop Moringa. Smells like many other things that are less expensive.

Generic sweet floral. Pleasant but it reminds me of cheap fragrances I wore as a kid in the 90s.

Cheap and dated. Reminds me of my firsts perfumes back in the 80’s. Nothing special. The dry down, after 10 hours, is delicious and creamy.

This is just awful. A synthetic mess. I wouldn’t even insult someone by giving it away.

I have a tester vial of this. At 1st this smelled clean & shampoo-y. Then the heavy note came out, which to me is a headache-inducing, "arid", off-putting musky scent, stronger than and fighting awkwardly with the "shampoo"... and a cloying, thick, sweet note emerges that smells like "joy", but in an annoying way like if everyone else were happy but you... plus imagine a sickeningly sweet, bright golden "breakfast syrup" that's not trying to claim any relation to maple flavor. Still with that OBNOXIOUS arid musky note. Then, (I'm leaving it on long enough because I sprayed this on a teddybear, and it went through that same evolution until...) it turned into, ok, hear me out, a salty... sweet... buttered popcorn, and half of that butter is extra virgin coconut oil 🥥🍿🍯. At this point, it is heading into that phase now on my skin, though this "OVERLY MATURE" version of joyfulness is still at play Strange perfume 🤔.... I'm not sure WHAT'S "afloat" here...

This fragrance is an accurate representation of the Derek Lam design aesthetic. There is nothing busy or overdone from Derek Lam; every choice is intentional. When something is simple, you can't hide any mistakes. Afloat is the correct name for this beauty. The mimosa is clean and realistic, with a delicate sweetness. This is mimosa as it smells when it's growing, with none of the overly sweet or indolic notes. The orris is a soft powder which becomes more prominent over time. The dry down has an evolution of yellow florals. As is common with the Derek Lam fragrances this has excellent longevity which is really a testament to the quality of materials used. For such a delicate scent it has excellent projection. Is it earth-shatteringly different? No. Is it exceptionally well done? Yes.

Derek Lams fragrances are nothing if not unique. With only two or three notes in each how could they not be? The discovery sample set of the first 10 fragrances in the big white bottles were so much fun to try out. There were a lot of "Wows" and "Whoas" "WTF's" and "so weird" comments coming out of my mouth. Anyway, this one is fun as it smells like a salty-sweet and floral PLAY-DOH to me. I guess that is what happens when you mix orris butter w mimosa flower. Each time I smell it I cant help but smile thinking of my childhood playing w play-doh, so it was worth a purchase just for that. Plus, its just plain weird yet sophisticated at the same time. Smiles all around.

Instinct wins again! I bought Afloat out of curiosity because the reviews are polarizing. Some love it, some hate it. I happen to love it. I catch whiffs of it after wearing it and it’s just lovely. A lovely floral scent. It reminds me of spring but I can see someone pulling this off in the summer. This is a great casual scent to wear, I love Derek Lam fragrances for this (I have them all)! Big bottles of decent performing juice that smells pretty good. They are perfect for shopping trips and running errands. Afloat is what I wore to Target today and I had a wonderful scent cloud that was quite impressive in my honest opinion.

True to 10 Crosby line of fragrances, two ingredients listed, but a lot going on. I'm not sure how I feel about the first test of this fragrance. After the first few spays, I wa like "Nope". Then the juice started to dry down and get subtly, less sweet and more floral. Mimosa is one of those flowers that can come off juvenile if not done right, I guess the orris gives it a balance. I actually need to give it another test to give it a more accurate, fair review. I can tell you...I don't hate it.

I don't know why this reminds me of Calgon Hawaiian Ginger since the notes are nothing alike, but minus the ginger spiciness this really reminds me of that. Has that same melon note underlying this scent as is in that and the same feel of an afterbath splash. I think it's very strange that only two notes are listed since Calone is clearly the strongest note here, more so than the listed mimosa and orris. I happen to hate the smell of Calone, so this is a pass for me.

I find it interesting, and better quality than B& Body works...it has good longevity, smells elegant, maybe is it overpriced? In a way, but I like it, it is smells pretty, without being out of this world either!! I usually don't like mimosa, but mixed in with the orris I find it attractive!!! Now unsure if I will buy it...

I wore Yves Saint Laurent Paris in the 90s and this smells exactly like vintage Paris. Been looking for a vintage bottle of Paris but for now this will do.

How can this smell like beautiful day (a fresh apple) ANNNDDD. Red Door??? Those two couldn’t be any more different. The reviews are insane
