Ellipsis

This fragrance threw a curve ball at me because I blind bought this fragrance based on the Jasmine and Sandalwood notes that were voted in. Upon spraying my arm, I did NOT smell Jasmine which is a note I'm very familiar with as it is my favorite white floral along with Tuberose, Orange Blossom, and Gardenia but I digress. This White Flower is actually Narcissus!! A beautiful white floral that can be very indolic and cloying in warm weather. Every Spring, my Mother's garden is full of Narcissus and Freesia that come up like weeds from heaven. It's not even Spring yet but these flowers are already coming up because it's been warm here on the West Coast. The fragrance, for me, can be most appreciated in the colder days or evening for the Narcissus and Sandalwood combo to shine. I'm sure there's other notes besides as well but my olfactory sleuth hones in on those two scents. The power of suggestion. lol

I sampled all the Derek Lam 10 Crosby perfumes when they first came out and this was by far my favorite one. It's very subtle and powdery, and almost sweet smelling, which are all my personal favorite perfume notes. It took me a while to pull the trigger and by it because: a) it's pretty expensive and b) sometimes I would spray it and it would smell very strongly of jasmine, which is not what I like. If you don't spray it directly on your skin and instead spray it around you and walk through it, that's when the sandalwood really comes through. This has become my all-time favorite fragrance. I like the Derek Lam 10 Crosby perfume line because I feel there is something for everyone.

One of my absolutely favorite affordable fragrances. You can find this at discounters for crazy cheap considering the quality of it. In my opinion, it is the best of the Derek Lam line, and smells way more expensive that what it is. Great longevity, lasts on me even after a 8+ work day. Hard to describe the smell, it's a little sweet, a little powdery, a little woody, a little flowery. The flowery scent reminds me of a bouquet of white flowers that are just a day or two past their prime, that ripe smell of white flowers. It's not too much of anything, and is in my opinion, an utterly unique fragrance. Seriously underrated, seeing the lack of reviews here.

There's now way there are only two notes in this fragrance. For a cologne, it seems to be very complex to me, and long lasting as well. The variety box of Derek Lam sample vials have changed the way I feel about colognes. I usually stick to EdP or EdT's sometimes. If i were to buy any of these fragrances in full size it would probably be this one. Like I said it smells complex to me. Sure I get a big hit of Jasmine, which I love, and a bit of sandalwood, but something else also Something odd, that i cant't put my finger on, but pleasant. Interesting cologne. If i were to compare it to anything, it sort of reminds me of The Beat by Burberry.

If I would have went on these reviews, I never would have tried this. It's possibly my favorite from this house. It is unique, powdery but not baby powdery. It's a jasmine powder, with a little wood. Everyone has different tastes and different body chemistry but I get none of the bad things that others are getting ( thank God!). No cough syrup, no cleaner just a jasmine powder with a hint of wood and spices. The jasmine is not indolic on me. Both sillage and longevity are moderate/ strong. Overall 7.5/10.

At first it was a strange flowery woody smell I couldn't quite identify. Later it dried down to smell like actual flower petals on my skin. I didn't like it at first but it is kind of growing on me. Don't think it's worth the price tag though, I'll stick with my sample :) Update: over time it retained the petal smell but got much sweeter and more powdery. It actually reminds me of Kenzo Flower, if you want something similar and cheaper.

This is a neat fragrance. So weird it only has 2 ingredients because I smell something different each time I try it. Initially I got the nice jasmine & a nice powdery woodiness. 2nd time it was a nice white floral and almost a fruity tone. Now this time I smell Carmel & the sandalwood. Only complaint is it doesn't stick around very long. I got complimented when I wore it out.

Isn't it strange? I smell caramel popcorn and pineapple. A weird gourmand concoction. Maybe maple syrup and blueberry pancakes? Perhaps I'm just hungry, but anyways. I'm not a big fan of Derek lam, but at least ellipsis makes me feel curiosity about the scent. I keep smelling my wrist, still smells like some dessert with caramel. Do I like it, yes, sure why not?

This is one of the strangest fragrances I've ever smelled. I don't even know how to describe it. It reminds me of giving cough syrup to the kids I used to nanny for when they were sick. It has a thick, cherry, syrupy smell, but it also smells the way people smell when they're ill. If you asked me to rate it 0-5 stars, I'd rate it n/a. This scent resides in a world without stars.

This is a polarizing fragrance of exceptional quality. I remember buying several back when Sephora offered them and this was initially my first one. I thought I was in love and in the end I couldn't handle the cloy and the jasmine is real, so don't overspray even though 2 sprays is already beast-mode strong. I have a lot of respect for this line, but Ellipsis is something that will will not compromise.

Fermenting grape (not wine, but grapes in the process of fermenting) with some sterile jasmine and portapotty smell. Not human waste, but what airplane lavatories smell like, that chemical scent. Bizarre. Clearly I'm really not into it, and like others said, stay away, but I'm curious -- how the hell would you even get this scent from what is apparently just jasmine and sandalwood?

Longevity is poor, the first 2 minutes smells like a fresh and sweet jasmine, not realistic jasmine but pleasant, 5 minutes later all the florals are gone left with an unpleasant cat pee smell on my wrist and lingering on for an hour, and finally disappears. Don't like at all...

This is supposed to be light and floral, but there is a weird sour hammy smell in this. Maybe its just me, but that sour note ruins this. Maybe it was added to smell niche or unusual and maybe it works on some people. Not me though, thumbs firmly down.

I love jasmine, i love sandalwood. 1+1 should =2. Nope, not so much. There is a strange gourmand element that interferes for me. Quite unwelcome. Actually reminds me of the syrupy elements of Bond West Side.

This Jasmine is very umm indolic

I’m really not sure if I’m being gaslit or if this fragrance to me is like the soap taste:cilantro for some people, but WOW. I have never smelled something I hated so much. What is this?? It really smells like waste to me. I was SO mad that I had decided to test it on my skin. Not a safe blind buy. I’ve been using this website for years and created an account for the first time because I HAD to talk about this. Wow. I would rather smell Lolita Lempicka or Twilly d’Hermès (both of which I don’t care for). Wow.

I'm shocked with how people are saying they in any way enjoy this. It smells like straight up play-doh. Playh doh mixed with like....cheap air freshener? It's so weird. Not enjoyable in any way. And I like weird scents!

What is this? Made me gag so bad it smells absolutely disgusting. Foul smelling urine. Don't buy it. I don't think I have ever smelled a perfume this bad.

I swear the top notes of this line all remind me of another perfume. It is very odd. 2am Kiss reminded me of Womanity, and this reminded me faintly of musc ravageur. In fact, I thought I was holding the bottle for "Something Wild" and thought appreciatively, "ah, he is going animalic with this one...clever title". But alas, it was this supposed jasmine/sandalwood combo. As in my 2 am review, I will state that I believe that he is being very coy with his notes, and that there is certainly musk and vanilla in this perfume. Strangely, it is in the dry down that I get lots of powdery jasmine and sandalwood. It smells very beautiful and clean, which is a strange juxtaposition from the animalic opening. All of his perfumes seem to be an odd journey, as they change a great deal over time. I am not quite sure how I feel about finding elements of controversial perfumes in his line...I can't tell if it is brilliant or a cheap ploy to create ripples. Definitely worth a trial spray, if you like curious scent experiences.

So interesting. I smell ham and yoga/gym mat before knowing the notes. Maybe the name reminded me of an elliptical machine so the smell of plastics at a slightly stinky gym came to mind. Bleh! I will for sure give this another try though because I really like many of the other Derek Lam fragrances that I've tried so far - I received the 10 piece sample set as a birthday present and they are fun! It's possible the ham and yoga mat smell is also due to my not showering. I'm not saying I smell like meat before a shower but weird smells have emerged when both my husband and I try fragrances on unwashed skin! I've smelled play doh and other weird things - some John Varvatos fragrances also smell like meat on my husband if he hasn't had a shower.

I get an extremely strong and cloying jasmine on first application - almost like a cross between gardenia and honeysuckle. The first few seconds remind me of Alien, but less refined and less balanced. It then turns indolic and I wait for the sandalwood to soften it, but it never arrives. I have a generous sample that will undoubtably last a long time. Just a tiny spritz on one wrist and it fills the room. I do like jasmine scents, Molinard de Molinard being one of my all time favorites, however, Ellipsis is not for me.

This smells like wine in wooden barrel. Smells like black grapes that are not sweet but more sour, squeezed and to the point of fermentation. No sweetness at all in this one. No woods, no powder, no cinnamon, all this may be just predominant indolic jasmine. If you like the smell of sour wine, or the room after a party where people were drinking... smells close. It is definitely unique, try before buying. It is not bad, it's just different, more for creating an experience, than easy reach fragrance.

what in the world am I smelling? reviews range from strange florals, headshops, gym equipment to blueberry pancakes! I get something that reminds me of a high end cocktail. definitely liquor, wood, torched creme brûlée and a dominant vinyl note. yes vinyl! this is not a safe blind buy. I can't remember a time I've been so challenged by a perfume and I appreciate that. for the life of me I can't think of a single perfume this reminds me of.

The jasmine in this is not obvious or cloying - it's almost unrecognizable. When I think of jasmine I think of very prominently jasmine scents like armani code, alien, dkny pure, etc. The one in this doesn't smell like that. It's very woodsy, almost spicy, with some generic florals in the background. A nice clean scent that isn't really unique or memorable but still good.

This is weird. Upon first spray you get annoying alcohol that disappears immediately. But, right after, i get the raw non creamy sandalwood with some green floral. It honestly reminds me of Moroccan black soap paste we use in the Hammam. It reminds me of tar as well. I can never imagine myself wearing this . Do not blind buy this just because of its weirdness....

Derek Lam, what is up with listing only a few notes? It's entirely misleading. Yes, there's a heavy hit of very dry sandalwood incense sticks with some jasmine. There's some very powdery opoponax resin. I also get a bit of smoky, vanilla caramel. Ellipsis is a hit of headshop hippie that's unmistakable. It's a little too rough for me.

Ok what the hell is going on here? From the notes i wouldn’t have given this a second of my attention but when i smelled it, it was a sweet sticky gourmand bomb ... i get toffee bread pudding or caramel kettle corn, or fresh made pancakes covered in maple syrup.... Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but this is absolutely divine

This one is soooo sooo powdery on me! It reminds me a lot of The Healing Garden's Zzzz Therapy scent from several years ago. I am only about 1 hour into wearing this one, so I will update if this one morphs on me at all. Overall, I smell jasmine behind the powder. Nice, but not a full bottle purchase for me at this point....

I have been reviewing each fragrance from this collection and saved my sample of this for last, as I love jasmine and sandalwood. This is surprisingly green and on me, I get funeral home lilies. Do not like it at all! Had to wash it off immediately. My least favorite from the line. Disappointing.

My sample must have gone bad because this smells absolutely foul on me. I was gagging and had to scrub it off it was so bad! I couldn't even begin to parse out what it smelled like because I needed to stop smelling it immediately. Make sure to test this one out before spraying it on your skin!

This is sweet non descript white floral that’s being called jasmine over a surprisingly smooth sandalwood and musk. It smells like sweet printer paper. Always try it for yourself because the negative reviews of this shouldn’t be taken seriously.

esteban747 smells this exactly like I do. He may like it more than I do, but word for word he described what I smell!

The jasmine in this is great but it smells like public bathroom air freshener on my skin.

Freakishly weird and unwearable. I love it.
