Give Me The Night

I was interested in this fragrance because the combination of moss and jasmine was so intriguing to me, but Kai_11's review is what made me actually order a sample, and I am so glad that I did. I don't say this often, but I was genuinely captivated by this scent as soon as I smelled it. It seems like it would be really simple since it's just two notes but it smells so enticing. I don't think I will personally be wearing it often, but I gave my sample to my partner because I think it's such a sexy male fragrance. The earthy moss with the hint of jasmine is just SO good I can't get enough of it. If you're interested, I would recommend getting a sample first since I have seen some negative reviews and it is a unique scent, but god I love this.

This is an interesting fragrance that offers that BR540 amber-mossy-woody experience. But where a lot of fragrances such as Ariana Grande Cloud that share that experience veer in the overly sweet direction, this one settles into warm and cosy vanilla-tonka experience in the drydown. Personally, I'm not keen on BR540 and the clones it has spawned, but I don't mind this one and I'd say it's a more grown-up take. Longevity wise, it lasts for about 6 hours on my skin and I can smell it on my coat the next day. I'm wearing it during winter, and I think it might be a bit too strong for hot weather. Update on this one is that I am so enjoying this fragrance as the weather is cooling down. However, the more I wear it, the more it becomes apparent that it's mostly ambroxan + vanilla. It certainly is elegant and very cosy smelling, but it's very ambroxan-forward. I really like that experience, but it isn't for everyone.

Definitely not a sharp chypre, and it’s pretty interesting for a 2 note fragrance. The middle reminds me of an old library, or vintage bookstore; worn pages of old, well read books. There’s a very subtle sweetness as well, a deeper musty dry down. It’s almost a nostalgic scent for me, making it way more attractive than it probably should be. This is like an air scent, you know, like a smell in the air, rather than a “perfume”. Silage is close, and it was a skin scent within a few hours. Def not a fragrance for everyday, or everyone, but it is rather intriguing. Not expensive and easy to find, but I’d go with a sample first. Add 4/17: I can’t say exactly why, but I really love this. I keep catching surprising wafts and it’s so lovely.

It's jasmine and moss. Nice, long-lasting (even after washing off) but too "hard" for me. The jasmine sticks out a lot at first and the moss trails along. I scrubbed it so not sure what happens down the line but it still was "there" after washing off. Might be good for layering. IF I try, I'll report back on the results.

Not a bad smell. Very soft. Reminded me more of cologne than perfume. Not for me but my girlfriend liked it and it smelled better on her than on me. Pretty good for a butch that doesn't like cologne, in my opinion.

I like this but thought it was too masculine for me. Great on my boyfriend. It's sexy.

I simply canNOT tell you what I’m smelling. I like it and dislike it at the same time. I’m getting no moss, no jasmine, no wood, no chypre vibes. It’s more like maybe cola mixed with cocoa? Or maybe Baileys liqueur? Or fermenting cherries? Or brandy casks? Or Aussie hairspray in the purple bottle from the late 80’s? Or something else entirely. Here are some lists of notes I found online. I’m not sure I smell anything they mention. It dries to a powdery sweetness and fades too quickly. What is in this?? Walmart.com says this about the notes: - A woody, chypre floral fragrance - Features enchanting notes of tropical Haitian vetiver - Blend of bergamot, freesia, jasmine sambac and thrush Sears.com lists these notes: - This oriental fragrance has a blend of amber, patchouli, woody notes, and caramel. I have a solid perfume version of Give Me the Night (and of A Hold on Me). Soft and creamy, sweetish-tart, and pale jasmine, with a citrus top and a woody layer threading in and out. Very blended, nothing is really the star presence here. Just a creamy, tart, warm-for-jasmine kind of scent. It must have moss but I'm not really getting that; it could vaguely have some patchouli? I haven't tried the edp spray version, but in the solid perfume I have, the scent is barely noticeable except to me, and it lasts about an hour. I like A Hold on Me better, but I basically never reach for either of these, probably at least in part because they're solid perfumes, just not my thing at the moment. Update: I actually don't relate to this as jasmine, now that I wear it some more. It's more like a citrus woody tonka blend, with some thin patch in the base. Citrus persists though.

Just a little review to share that Derek Lam GIVE ME THE NIGHT smells very similar to Ariana Grande REM and also Bath and Body Works COZY SEASON and Cosmo Eau de Juice LOVE UNFILTERED. They share that mysterious addictive sweet and mossy lavender musk and ambroxan cloud.

I agree this does have a BR540 vibe but much more patchouli, mossy forward. This is so good. definitely get the vanilla too. I love this one.

Anyone smelling valaya??? Or is it just me??? I only have the body mist, but it is soooo similar for me.
