Hi-Fi

I came across this accidentally, and it was instant love. I didn’t even want to look at it as the name sounded masculine and I’ve never heard of this brand as a perfume. But I took a sniff and I was hooked. It is indeed the most natural and close to the real flower narcissus that I’ve smelled. Everyone knows narcissus as a note in perfumery usually is something heavy, slightly yellow, and creamy. This is fresh, delicate, natural. In the spring smell some narcissus and you will see. The only other perfume I smelled that was a good narcissus was Ostara by Penthaligon. Here the peony has a supporting role. The perfume starts floral, goes into a short leaf/foliage/green phase and then settles into a soft and gentle narcissus. It sounds boring and it isn’t a complex scent at all, but it’s so charming and romantic in its simplicity. In therms of silage and lasting power... the silage is good for about half an hour to one hour, then becomes very soft. The scent has low to medium lasting power on skin, much better on clothes . Overall it’s youthful , calming, lovely, and appropriate anywhere. Completely charming and inoffensive, innocent, pure.

I am working my way through a small Derek Lam 10 Crosby discovery set, left to right. This is the third scent that I have tried, and the one I like best so far. At first it smelled like crushed green stems. Very fresh and natural-smelling, and somewhat bitter. Then a sweetness came out, but the pure greenness remained. I was trying to pinpoint what flower this reminds me of, because I don't know what narcissus smells like, and then it came to me: hyacinth. I can picture pink, purple, and white hyacinths in full bloom, with both the sweetness and the greenness. I'm also getting a touch of magnolia, as well as an aquatic slant, like water lily. I detect some fruit too, but can't quite identify it. Maybe kumquat? I am pleasantly surprised with this fragrance, because I found that the first 2 Derek Lam scents I tried were just weird! The name Hi-Fi seems ironic, because I wouldn't characterize this as a loud scent, but rather a friendly one. I suppose you could say it conveys a Spring garden in High Fidelity. Hi-Fi has remained fairly linear, and I find it to be quite lovely. For me, this one is a winner.

This feels like a cross between B&BW Daisy Dream Girl (not in the data base) and D&G L'Imperatrice. B&BW Daisy Dream Girl is a violet-powdery, Sweet Tarts candy and pink lemonade type of concoction. A youthful and summer appropriate powdery fragrance. Hi-fi has obvious peony with this Sweet Tarts candy and pink lemonade along with the watery fruitiness of L'Imperatrice. I would not be surprised if there were some violet, strawberry, watermelon and citrus in here as well. I noticed another reviewer below, guessed waterlily, magnolia and other notes could be included in Hi-fi. They could be right. I say there has to be more notes to this perfume. There is definitely a sturdy base of some kind because I find it strong and this lasts a good 9 hours. All I need is one spray.

If the word "lovely" had a smell, I definitely would vote for this. It is by and far not my aesthetic of perfume. At all. Would never wear this. However that has literally nothing to do with how I rank this scent. Didn't put it on my body so I can't speak to the sillage or the longevity. If you were a fan of sweet pea and peony from bath & body works, this is a much more elevated version of this. It's very fresh and sweet. It is a very clean scent as far as I'm concerned but I wouldn't go so far as to say straight out of the shower type of clean. Not soapy. Very well-rounded and no aspects of screechiness.

Derek Lam fragrances are curiously funny. Ones listed with only two notes feel like more and a few listed with three feel like one noters. This one, although not my favorite from the DL variety, lists Narcissus & Peony, and that"s exactly what you get. Nothing more than simple, clean, spring freshness. If you are looking for simplicity, this is the cologne for you. It last a considerable amount of time for a cologne, but could project better. I must say, I don't hate it. I'd buy it if it was in a discount bin, but full price... Nah, I'd pass it up for another floral.

I got a sample set of this collection, because I was curious about this and a few others. I know what the notes are, but wow- this instantly took me back to my childhood. (Where my 00's kids at?) Something about it reminded me of play doh, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, and dirt. It conjured up a lot of good memories, but that's not enough to justify the price of a FB, because I don't particularly like it, if that makes sense. It gave me a nice sensory experience, temporarily that is, but I couldn't ever see myself reaching for it.

This smells identical to versace. I am so sorry l added Dahlia and Vines to the reminds me of section. That was a long time ago and they actually smell nothing alike. I see my misinformation has caught on so l very much regret it and down voted my absurd selection. I apologize to all of you l may have confused when they got their bottle that didn't smell alike at all. It's an exact dupe of Versace. I've yet to find a dupe of Dahlia and Vines

Perky peony that sticks around for two hours or so. Three sprays this morning were no longer discernible within four hours. As I work my way through all ten of the Derek Lam scents, I'm finding that most of this line feels really adolescent. This would be a good one for a teen girl with a tendency to over-spray, since its got little sillage or longevity, and the scent is quite clean (in a laundry detergent or shampoo kind of way).

Oh well, I like this a lot I love peony! It is so shampoo clean and fresh. I don't need it to be more complex - and I'm not a little girl or a teen! This is simple and that's not boring to me. I recently dropped and broke my brand new bottle of Peony by Acqua di Parma - so this is a nice stand in until I can get another. It was in my open purse which was on a table and it rolled right out onto a marble floor. I was heartbroken!

Very sweet floral shampoo. This also has generic aquatic notes. Smells like eating cotton candy while walking through a lush spring garden in full bloom after a rain. Several hours later it smells like sweet dryer sheets.

It's nothing artificial or offensive very high quality. Likeable, just not my favorite blend. Too many florals with yellow florals, rose and green. It's just too much.

It truly does smell like peony. Pleasant, but boring.

This is surprisingly very good

First blast of overly-sweet florals, cloying, dangerously close to headache-inducing. I get lily of the valley and it's very much that flowery clean dryer sheet kind of scent. Luckily, the strength of this one fades fairly quick after the initial spray so that cloud of sweetness isn't so pervasive anymore. I feel like I get a hint of tuberose trying to step forward after a while.. am I imagining it? Overall it's okay, a pretty and simple floral, and nothing distinguishes it from the millions of other ones out there. Feminine and best for mild weather.

No idea what the name has to do with this. Hi-Fi is a rather uptight and classic white floral peony with plenty of wet and sap-like green notes to match. It has a touch of nectar sweetness to it, but it's mostly a very 'wet' and fresh white floral. Nice, but like all the other things I've smelled from this line, forgettable.

Pretty linear, peony with some daisy maybe. When a bit too much is applied it takes on that generic, florally forgettable-ness that a lot of quick, trend, main stream florals seem to end up smelling like. No way would I pay the price this costs. Not even half the price... honestly not even a third. Sort of reminds me of the vibe that NEST fragrances have, in my experience. They try really hard to smell like the authentic plant, but there's always something... that keeps it from smelling authentic, that "generic" quality I mentioned before. Despite being easy to over apply, fades pretty quickly. Overall: Eh.

I bought this based on the reviews saying it was a dupe for Versace pour femme. It does not smell the same at all if you're looking for a 1:1. I had versace on one wrist and hifi on the other. The notes that emanate are very diff. Versace gives off a round juiciness from the guava, and overall had a rich and unique scent profile. This one is a simpler, sharper white floral. I disagree that it's a dupe. This is a sophisticated, clean floral. However, after wearing it for a few days, I can see how someone who likes the versace would really like this. The two notes do meld in a velvety way to add a different dimension of scent, rather than just the notes written. I think if you liked the Versace you would like this one. I am thinking of layering w a guava to see if it gets me closer to the Versace. Note: we are talking about versace signature pour femme, not Eros

I don't think it is destined for guys!! It is really a simple floral scent, easy to wear, but kind of forgettable..would have been better with more longevity too...just nice peony scent, but overpriced for what it is !!

Sweet wet flowes on a rainy day. Nothing else to add. This brand needs to put some more effort in creating fragrances.

Gorgeous white floral, little citrus. Clean. Perfect spring scent. Definitely lingers. Has a rich vibe for low cost.
