Looking Glass

Why isn't anyone talking about this? It's so beautiful! I'm not usually a quiet floral girl, but this has tonka that warms it up while it stays transparent and skin like. I feel like what I am saying here is not doing the job. It would be a perfect at the job scent, school scent, but it's also romantic and beautiful enough for other occasions if you don't mind how hush it is. Lush and hush. Hehe. I have sprayed it multiple times. It actually lasts, but it has almost no spread. Still, sometimes an intimate, romantic thing is just as nice as something that enters the room before you! Timeless.

I received a sample of this from a fun purchase of bag of random perfume vials from Facebook marketplace. To my surprise -- upon my first sniffs it instantly reminded me of The Body Shop's long discontinued Cherry Blossoms perfume (a staple during my high school days). I might have to get a bottle of Looking Glass for ol' memories sake.

When it comes to first impressions, this perfume series nails it! The packaging and bottle feel and look they way quality, luxury items should. The cylinder box is thick card paper, like the old bottles of talcum powder. Inside the base of the box is lined with a velvet type material, keeping the bottle nice & snug. The bottle feels nice in your hand. Smooth and with a fair amount of weight. At first glance I thought the entire cap was plastic, however I quickly realized this can’t be, because the cap is magnetic. It doesn’t click closed like most perfume bottles. Another feature that sets it apart from the rest. Amongst my collection, it definitely stands out. The aroma of Looking Glass is sweet and pretty. Almost reminds me of Burberry London Dream, but simpler, fresher, younger, & happier. Once it dries down, the sweet florals give way to a light powdery scent. This is a great perfume for everyday wear. It does have one drawback, it doesn’t have a powerful longevity. Although the scent is still on my wrist, 4+ hours later. At about 3 hours in, it was very faint. Perhaps next time I’ll try two sprays and see if it helps. Bottom line a great perfume, that will be added to my daily roster. I’m now eager to try the other scents in this line.

This is my second perfume from this designer . My first was the Hi-Fi , which I liked very much, this one is very fresh and pleasant ( oriental floral ? There isn’t a trace of anything oriental here ! ). It’s flowery fresh, no discernible tonka. Just pleasant , average silage and lasting power. The bottle and box are similar throughout the line. kind of weird and not practical since you cannot see how much is left in the bottle. At some point this perfume reminds me of Miracle by Lancome, I could swear I smell pink pepper and Peony but they aren’t listed. The drydown become somewhat sweeter, but you really need imagination to smell tonka or vanilla. Both the Looking Glass and Hi-Fi have shared note that I can only describe as “shampoo”. It dominates both compositions . It is not unpleasant nor cheap smelling, but it takes the wow away. Are these worth the money ? Definitely not for full retail price. But if you find them for a deal , than you might as well enjoy them, they are beautiful , delicate, feminine, unobtrusive. Really nice for spring and summer .

Very Pretty, floral, fresh, sweet, warm, romantic, feminine, sensual, happy, citrusy, bright, cheerful, whimsical, charming, carefree, lighthearted, uplifting On me this is a fresh and softly sweet floral. I get the bright, lemony, and slightly waxy scent of the magnolia, the warm, sweet, sensual, somewhat creamy, and vanilla scent of the tonka bean, and the floral notes that feel fresh and mostly white to me. Overall, it’s a lovely sweet, fresh, citrusy, and vanilla floral scent that surprised me with how much I enjoy it. To me this feels like it’s best suited for spring, summer, and early fall. I think it would work well for most occasions except for fancier ones, or if you want something that feels more seductive. I was surprised to find that I found this to be similar to DedCool Sunlit Blooms and Alien Goddess Intense. I get great performance with Looking Glass. The longevity is really good, it lasts throughout the entire day on me. The projection is decent, it radiates out at least a few feet from me.

Reminds me of Proenza Schouler's Arizona a bit! It's fresh, florally, and slightly fruity – though I don't see any fruit notes listed. It starts off similar to other Derek Lam 10 Crosby perfumes. It's got that sweet floral synthetic/plastic element going on (in a mostly good way, though if you don't like that you won't like any scents from the line!). It eventually does mellow out to a vanilla-y tonka on my skin fairly quickly in 2-3 hours, but I don't notice that note at all in the beginning. Overall I quite enjoy this but I wouldn't spring for a full size bottle given the longevity and price – I'll just finish out my sample instead. :)

Pretty but ultimately very generic smelling ambery powdery 'yellow floral' (there are probably no yellow flowers in this but it smells reminiscent of a yellow floral to me). I agree with other reviewers that it smells like a nice shampoo or a flowery baby powder deodorant (kind of like the Lady Speed Stick I wore in high school) but ultimately forgettable. If you like that kind of thing though, it's smooth, gentle and completely inoffensive. Just don't expect more than that.

I bought the complete collection using a gift card, and this was the first scent I decided to wear after it arrived. It was definitely still discernible after five hours, but not after eight. I see the similarity to Tocca's Liliana, but would say that Looking Glass is brighter, sweeter and fresher. I would recommend it as a safe option for a girl in high school or college who is looking for a crowd-pleasing scent but would like to have an unfamiliar bottle on her boudoir.

Not my favorite from the Lam variety box I purchased. I get the Tonka Bean amidst a heavy floral scent, making it hard to pinpoint the magnolia...it's lost. This is not a bad smelling cologne, I personal just think it's missing something, a fruit or touch of something fresh. Layering it probably wouldn't hurt. The lasting power is poor and undetectable to people around you. I prefer to be noticed. LOL!

Blind buy: Easy to wear girlie floral. Not a lot of depth. A little squeak of something smoky or earthy would have knocked this out of the park. It's something I would give my niece for her birthday. Unlike the other reviewers, I like the clean, simple package. That bein' said, Feerie is one of my favorite bottles and it's completely on the other end of the design spectrum.

Love this too I haven't tried a Crosby fragrance yet that hasn't been beautiful and blended well. This is a very unique unusual feminine fragrance.

Kinda unisex after the opening? Anyone? Just me?

I am wearing a sampler. I've had it on for 5 hours. I have a terrible head-ache and I can't wash this off. It's offensively floral and overly sweet.

As a big fan of Derek Lam's clothing line, I decided to test some of his fragrances. I read all of the reviews online, and agree with perfumistas that most of the line smells "incomplete." It almost seems like he should have made them layerable. Looking Glass is my favorite of the bunch. A soft floral with a bit of fruity soapiness to it. The magnolia and Tonka bean are a bit of an odd combo, and at initial spritz, I found it a bit sharp. The dry down actually reminds me a tad of Dior J'adore (which I like, but don't love.) Lasting power is terrible, and sillage is moderate. I like, but don't love this fragrance enough for full bottle. If I were gifted it, I think it would be a nice work or weekend scent. Doesn't make too much of a statement, and decently crowd-pleasing. Price is a little steep, and the bottle is not super attractive.

This is probably my favorite of the 10 Crosby heavier floral scents, which doesn't say much (the floral ones from the collection being Afloat, Looking Glass, Drunk on Youth, and Hi-Fi...). Looking Glass is feminine, pretty, and wearable for everyday, but unfortunately, it gives me a bit of a headache. Also, nothing truly sets it apart from many others on the market...Descent lasting power--at least 5 hours! I feel it smells slightly similar to Touch of Pink or Mary Kay's Journey fragrance as well, already noted by another reviewer...

Did not like, did not dislike. It's an "Eh." Agreed with below remarks on incompleteness. It is missing something, a hint of mystery or edge or adiction. Instead I find it bland and soon over. Sorry, but on my skin it is unimpressive. And for the $/oz price tag, I want VaVaVoom!

A soft, mildly lemony magnolia softened with tonka and some unlisted musk. Clean, soft and inoffensive, but not especially lightweight. This is a scent that would work for the office or other places that frown on big fragrance. Probably not one I will rebuy, but I do enjoy it.

Of many of the fragrances in the Derek Lam set, this is one I don’t care for. It’s too sweet. And it doesn’t last. And it’s boring and reminds me of deodorant. This is one I would skip.

Pretty and simple, not something that is going to upset people around you. Safe to wear to work and perfect for summer/spring transition! Reminds me a little of a Clinique fragrance.

I really should get better at doing reviews. Not for me, but it's a very nice yellow floral. And to be honest, this is like an EDT version of lancôme's long since discontinued Poêm.

Just got the sample box set and this was my first try. I like it! Reminds me a lot of Emozione by Ferragamo - a favorite. Maybe it's he iris? Creamy

Great smell. Too bad it’s gone almost as soon as you spray it! I wouldn’t waste my money on a full bottle!

Pleasant magnolia scent, but nothing to take your breath away.
