Rain Day

I just got a travel size of this today and I’ve wanted it for a while. I had gotten a sample I believe one time of this and loved it so I wanted to buy one and started small With the travel size to make sure I do love it as much as I remember and omg I really do! It’s my everything type of perfume! The aquatic, “blue” fragrances I sometimes call them-it does strike similar to Marc jacobs rain, Clean Rain, green tea cucumber by Elizabeth Arden, white musk free by the body shop, those types if anyone understands what I mean by those-blue type perfumes. I can’t wait to find a big bottle and hopefully a gift set type with lotion body wash etc kind of thing. It’s clean, it could be used for both men and women but does go more feminine than masculine. It’s certainly office safe, all weather and would be really nice for casual type days-today for example it’s actually pouring rain here and we’re under a severe rain warning and it’s really humid and gross feeling and this just smells so nice on while I’m in the air conditioning and just laying around.

I can't believe the ratings as this is one of the best fragrances ever made for its category. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I still wear this and ALWAYS get compliments and long lasting fresh, green action. This reminds me of Clean Rain, and Universalis, but this is the best rain-based fragrance I've come across. It's potent, clean, powdery, and blended richly. I'll buy another bottle before I can't find them anymore. Derek Lam is very underrated.

This fragrance is the perfect modern balance of dewy green floral and fresh woods. It's simplistic formula is refreshing and straight forward. I wear this during a busy day while I'm running errands . I can wear it 6 plus hours and it still on my skin as I come home. I also think it scus more in the shared category, my husband smells fantastic in it too. It's clean and refreshing, but not in a synthetic cheap way. I love it!

As a fresh rain fragrance enthusiast, this one was so special to me. I discovered it off a subscription service last year, and I instantly became enamored with it. The notes mix together to form a new and exciting fragrance that stays with you and never gets old, it was my signature scent for awhile and is super fresh. One of the most underrated perfumes from a line that is so interesting and loveable.

I found this today at tjmaxx for 6.99 (body spray mist) its soft and clean its definitely unisex. I wish it last more than 30 minutes. It's a new favorite for me I have to buy the edp. I've been searching for something close to water calligraphy by kilian. This isnt quite it but its similar in terms of citrus and softness

I was excited to get Rain Day because neroli and vetiver are two of my top favorite smells and they are also the only two notes in this. I sprayed my new bottle expecting to smell exactly that-- orange blossoms (basically the same as neroli) and vetiver. I was annoyed to find something reminiscent of Dream from The Gap, which I had (and loved) in my early 20s but was not looking to replicate. I wanted to smell like wet pavement and negative ions with a backdrop of woods and dewy orange blossoms. I don't know if that's what other people get when they smell Rain Day on me, and I'm not sure that's what I get either. I do know that I very much like the drydown. It smells fresh, like gray spring and fall days with just enough chill in the air to grab a cardigan on the way out the door. It's a mood unto itself. When the skies are cloudy and the air is humid, Rain Day comes out of hibernation. I don't wear it frequently, but I am glad it's in my collection.

I received a decant of this as a surprise. And boy, was i surprised! I hadn't heard of this perfume or this house before now. The immediate spray to me is very unisex. It's reminiscent of what my skin smells like after a shower, but brighter. ..somewhere between Dove and Irish Spring. In fact, this is probably what Irish Spring soap would smell like if they made an "all natural" version. The further into this scent I go, the more feminine it seems to me. I'm a couple hours into wearing it, and it somehow smells familiar but i can't peg it! Even my wife said it smells like something she wore in grade school or high school, and just like me she couldn't exactly peg it either. Great stuff, as said i was definitely surprised! It's going to be 107 degrees with 0 humidity so I'm really putting this to the test today. So far, so good. I really like it.

Rain Day by Derek Lam smells like a really good men’s cologne! Thank you to the neroli for making this citrus-fresh without having the typical chemical lemon bomb smell. My running complaint with these fragrances is that you pay niche prices for drugstore quality fragrances. I love me some cheap goodies, but I do not want to pay $95 for something that’s should really be a $10 body spray.

Soft and clean. Definitely more of a morning dew drop feel rather than a fresh and heavy rain. I’d relate it to nature’s version of a “clean linen” scent: it’s not something people will think to comment on, because it flies pleasantly under the radar. If you want to feel refreshed or just want to wear something around the house for your own enjoyment, this is perfect.

This is a true unisex fragrance, in my opinion. It used to be my signature scent for about half a year, and I always got so many compliments when I wore it. It smells a bit mature to me, and it's really fresh and clean. I think it can be worn year round, honestly. It’s also such a great deal since it's relatively cheap and great quality!

A super pleasant, if common smelling freshie frag. While not unique it does deliver on the name by evoking a feeling and smell of rain, which is both comforting and uplifting. Perfect for everyday and just out of the shower.

To me, this is more of a unisex fragrance leaning towards masculine. It's clean and bright and the name suits it. I found the longevity to be its worst habit... It's AWOL after an hour. It's still pleasant.

The opening really is actually evocative of a rainy day! Drydown is just kind of generic earthy citrus. Definitely one to try again in the heat of summer, rather than the middle of winter!

It does evoke rain. The woodsiness is very faint and came on later. It seemed a bit powdery to me early on. Nice enough, but nothing special.

I felt a touch of citrus note in this perfume. Why the citrus note is not displayed in this Fragrance Notes page?

Great fragrance for the price. You can usually find this one for pretty cheap. 100% a unisex fragrance.

Somewhat Bounce dryer sheet, somewhat 'fresh rain' candle. Doesn't smell as cheap or screechy, but it also smells more like a home fragrance than something a person would wear. Super linear and not long lasting, like the other Derek Lam scents I've tried. Really unimpressed with this line.

This actually smells amazingly fresh and enticing if you find yourself wearing this outside on a fall day after a rain shower. Don't expect anything very unique though, it majorly reminds me of something Adidas made (makes?) in my childhood.

i get some light floral notes, i want to say yellow but I really don't know how to qualify this. its really odd. wouldn't get a full bottle but I might go through my sample.

Dry petrichor right before the rain starts falling. The 10 Crosby scents are a lower rent version of Margiela's Replica line, I think. They're trying to tell a story, but the story here is a two line blurb, versus a longer, more prosaic bit of flash fiction that Margiela would offer. Because the purpose here is to evoke the idea of something, I think that Rain Day is fairly successful, but it would honestly be better as a candle or home diffuser because it's just so liner and boring. I think it's masc-leaning unisex, and it smelled nice on my husband and on me, but it is not nearly interesting enough to warrant the price. I also think the packaging looks like wannabe fancy body wash or something, and I am not digging that. This could be good for layering, so if you got a sample or even a FB at a steal you could play around with it, but it's not interesting enough or well-crafted enough to really worry about otherwise unless you're on a mission to sniff every petrichor or vetiver scent.

This doesn't evoke a rainy day to me. There’s no ozone, or petrichor, that damp earth or concrete smell that comes with rain. It’s actually a green vetiver (as opposed to an earthy or woody vetiver), citrus heavy freshie, that reminds me of a men's cologne. This might be okay to use in summer or for someone living in a hot climate as the vetiver and neroli make it somewhat crisp and refreshing, but if you are looking for something that smells like rain, this isn’t it. One thing I am very impressed with this designer brand is the packaging. Strong and sturdy cardboard cylinder outer box, and sleek modern bottle with a magnetic cap. Edit - I wound up giving this to my nephew and he agrees with me that it does smell like a men's cologne. He'll wear this casually to finish it up.

I blind bought the huge 175 ml 5.9 fl oz convincing myself that I love ‘rain-like’ fragrances only to be disappointed. Something in this throws it off for me. I see a resemblance of guess man but I actually like that cologne unlike this one. It might be the mix of just those two notes. It’s very grassy and reminds me of almost like celery or plants. Alittle too green for me and I guess I lean more on the aquatic, so it’s my bad. It smells much better on my husband than me, but I notice he never really gravitates towards this one.

Well, here I thought I'd have to look up which forgettable Bath & Body Works $10 scent this reminded me of. But no, someone else has already discovered that this is Dancing Waters. Same cheap chemical watery florals. Same 1 hour longevity. Inexplicable price tag. Looking forward to discovering if Derek Lam redid all the classic throwbacks at $95 a pop; Sun Ripened Raspberry anyone? Total pass.

I love both neroli and vetiver, but while this is pleasant, I'm missing the magic here. It is watery, and yet somehow it gives off more of a muggy woods vibe than an aquatic one. It also smells masculine to my nose, or at the very least unisex. It's not bad. But Hermes' Vetiver Tonka, now there's one I can't stop sniffing. That's unisex, but for a girlier vetiver, try Byredo's Bal D'Afrique.

This is not "Petricore". The smell of rain on concrete. With a title like Rain day you would expect that is what you get... Nay Nay. Instead you get the same basic generic white floral/ white musk scent you get in most ladies perfume. That's what I get. Your results may vary.

This smells exactly like a Yankee Candle that I bought myself in middle school book in like 2008. Generic wet/rain/ocean scent that's more perfume-y than I would have liked. I generally like petrichore but not this one :(

This is for women? All this sharp lemony zest should be worn by men.

Low grade "oils" smothered in chemical florals.. I've smelled a million of these types of scents but this one just smells extremely off.

Last summer, Rain Day came across my radar. I was looking for something I could wear in the high heat of summer (dog days). I ended up with Moschino Oumo?, CK Truth for Men, and Tommy Bahama St Barts for Women. All three were lovely (with the Moschino being a true gem). I wish I would have pulled the trigger on Rain Day. Rain Day is the lovely, fresh, musky, and soapy clean scent I was wanted to radiate. It's the scent of yourself after a shower with a generic soap bar. Spicy, green, and aldehydic. The opening is so attractive and intense. It's such a photo-realistic "soap" accord that my nose tingles and my eyes prepare to start stinging, but they don't. The opening feels like when you get a little too wild lathering up a soap bar and you use it all over your face and body. The drydown comes in a few minutes and a slightly green, softy spicy freshness that is, again, the scent of your freshly soaped and rinsed body. Nothing to do with a rainy day. Leans masculine, in my opinion. No fruits, florals, or sweetness - at all.

As I've gotten older, I've begun to understand the value of leaning into a mood/season rather than trying to escape it. Oh, it's January? We're going on brisk walks in the cold air, drinking bracing gin-based cocktails, Shoresy's on TV, I'm knee-deep in some technofuturist noir book (see: Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson) and I'm wearing Aprés by Ellis Brooklyn. Dead heat of summer and I'm hot and miserable? I'm sweating off Litoralle Aromatica's Caramellino, dripping vanilla soft serve from my waffle cone onto overly-tanned skin, breezing through a Dionysian novel that takes place largely on a portico somewhere, and have Steely Dan playing and boat breeze in my hair. This is all of the above for a rainy day, year round. This is the platonic ideal of a rainy day. Recommended pairings: Heavy Rain for PS3, the song Rain Smell by Baths and/or The Rain by k-os, and at least one trek across soaked city sidewalks to a local café.

This has a wierd faint plasticky smell that did go away after a few minutes. There's a smokiness or a woodiness as well as some naturey note also that reminded of the old "love's rain scent". But this is definitely not that. That one is pure rain fresh scent. I actually thought this was Unisex but I see it's not. It does get better as it dries but I still smell the unwanted burnt wood. Maybe that's supposed to evoke being indoors on a rainy day by the fireplace. Not what I was looking for. This remains a skin scent. It doesnt reek it's not horrendous just mildly unpleasant and I'm gonna scrub it off.

A pretty decent straightforward green scent. It starts off with a mix of dry neroli and some bitter vetiver. It gradually dries down to a pleasant, albeit inexpensive smelling, watery green scent - vetiver, some light woods, and that's mostly it - which smells like the faint hint of soap remaining on your skin a half hour after a shower. EDIT: Giving it some wears during the warmer days, I've noticed that this has the same neroli note as Varvatos' Artisan. I get maybe 5 hours of longevity out of it. It's an immediate skin scent.

On me, this is an absolute bomb in your nose kind of scent on initial spray, its very very aquatic in fact, yes, something like L' eau d' issey, which i had a few years back & which I was not really fond of. But after two hours, something very nice comes out of this and the seemingly aquatic vibe is now a nice soft feminine scent, flowery and feminine, I get the smell everytime i move. Could be the Neroli , the longevity is good, around three hours.

Bought the body spray and liked it so much I got the EDP. Turns out, the body spray is actually a lot better. The opening is way more gender neutral and petrichor-esque on the spray. The EDP, while still nice enough, has way more citrus and smells a lot more "perfume-y". Definitely pick up the body spray to get the gloomy rainy day vibe this fragrance advertises. It actually has great performance for a body spray also, I get 5+ hours out of it.

I totally enjoyed Rain Day. It’s a bit strong for me and and has similarities to a male cologne. I could see a man pulling this off as a light gym scent. For a lady, it works as well because it makes you smell clean, like you’re wearing mens deodorant. It is green, but not dark green, more effervescent and zen-like. I can see how this is called Rain Day as it dries down to a nice earthy, wood scent.

Two of my favorite notes.. NOT present. At least it lives up to its name; it does evoke the feel of fresh clean rain (on grass), aquatic and slightly green. Again, generic and draws comparison to Bath & Body Works... Why would a designer come up with a line of whopping TEN fragrances (not even reasonably priced) just to exceed mediocrity??

This is a fresh scent, with a little touch of neroli in the background...Rain is the perfect name for it , as it definitely makes me think of a warm spring drizzle!! It isn't anything new, but I find it pleasant, refreshing, ethereal...now the price is high, is it worthy? Not entirely sure...but it certainly isn't mediocre to my nose.

Aquatic and citrusy pretty much. Smells like a mix between Le Bateleur by D&G and Guess Man by Guess. Not bad and it lasts pretty well too. Btw, fellow Canadians, check your Winners cause Derek Lam fragrances are on sale for $60 CAD for 175mL ! Run and get them before they sell out!!

Luckily I got a sample and didn't blind buy! This fragrance disappears on me within 30 minutes! For the few minutes I could smell it, it was pleasant and that's all. Certainly would not buy this-it does evoke rain a little bit but nothing inspiring. A disappointment!

If you like scents that have the word "rain" in the title, you will probably enjoy this one. For me it's very green and light. I didn't get the woody part, but I only tried it on a test strip. I'd recommend it for spring and summer wear, easily unisex.

Got the set of mini fragrances for 29.99 at Marshall’s. Rain day is one of the better fragrances from the set. It’s fresh and cool like rain. But it is not so over citrusy that you have to save it for warm weather. This can work on fall and winter too.

Described well, very fresh & green, tiny masculinity in the opening. I love it. I do not believe in putting a scent with a gender. Anyone, at any age, put on your body what YOU want to smell like, any season, & be HAPPY!!

Can someone help me figure out what I'm smelling. Rain day gives me serious nostalgia to the airport... I swear the pilots would walk past smelling somewhat like this. PLEASE someone help me figure this out!!!

Mocianne, neroli has a strong bitter citrus note, which is what you could be smelling. Although, hard to believe there are really only 2 notes in any perfume. Maybe something not listed.

Wet green floral with citrus bent. Another unassuming scent from this line. Not really impressed, but at least it isn't terrible (like some of the other 10 Crosby fragrances).

This is not what i would consider “rainy day”. It’s more smoky on my skin, somewhat clean but not completely. Earthy, smoky. I love earthy but this one is not for me.

I layered this with Atelier Cologne's Vanille Insensee and it reminded me of L'Eau d'Issey. Or at least my memory of that fragrance, as I last wore it in the 90's.

This is a nice, earthy aquatic. Reminds me of a more mainstream version of Alkemia's "The Mist Becoming Rain" scent (not in the database here). I like this one.
