Went on with a such a photorealistic coffee note I could almost feel the grit of spilled grounds pushing into my fingertips. That delicious slightly bitter dryness is supported briefly by some herbal backing, a sort of herby coffee gourmand. The story isn’t over, she blossoms into a juicy, juicy jasmine. The jasmine note is strong and radiant, lingering with pulsing force throughout the life of the fragrance, but towards the end of the journey her eyes get heavy and she makes room for these absolutely beautiful, sensual, soft animalics to start prowling around. As they circle around you, you realize they are here for rest, not for hunger. There’s a clean safety in the dry down of this; my perfect girlfriend described it as smelling like a store. I picture it as a nice store, with chic shopkeepers wearing great pants and peddling polished wood wares. Cà Phê by Night is undeniably interesting and well-blended. A really delicious journey to go on. With all of the d.grayi samples I’ve had the pleasure of getting my hands on there’s a touch of something old-fashioned, just a soft stroke made anonymous by its subtlety. This scent, like the others I’ve smelled, settles down into something delicious and description defying. These animalics are gorgeous, sexy, something I’ve been looking for. You can tell James Nguyen loves fragrance, there is so much artistry and enjoyment in everything I’ve smelled from him, and this one really shines with that.

Very astringent, very strong and very acidic coffee, with animalic backing. For me it is just too bitter and acidic. This and white rabbit, work better layered than they do on their own, for me personally.

i can appreciate that the perfumer takes a lot of inspiration from the cuisine and herbal culture of southeast asia but no single perfume has so perfectly captured the essence of walking into a gas station in middle america after spending hours harvesting and braiding sweetgrass with your homies
