Pandan

This has one of the BEST coconut milk notes I’ve ever smelled in a fragrance, the perfumer really nailed the lactonic facets of coconut milk down to a t! This opens with a fluffy bread aroma similar to a loaf of milk bread paired with a gorgeously smooth, sweet, and milky coconut milk note. It’s fresh, it’s light, it’s sweet, and pairs so well with the fluffy bread note. The heart of this is a pandan bomb but in a good way, it’s sweet, vanilla-esque, but with fresh greenness to it and a smooth powdery sandalwood. The dry down keeps that pandan but amps up the vanilla aspect with a lovely vanilla waffle note that feels just as fluffy as the bread from the opening. The pine resin in this keeps things really fresh and light and adds a bit of woodiness even to the dry down. This is definitely a gourmand but it never feels too sweet or even too foody, the freshness and green accords really round things out

Opens with a complex grassy note which quickly gives way to sweet vanilla-y bread and a coconut milk only noted for its richness and not for any overt coconut aroma. Instead of giving simple baked goods, this perfume is elevated by the pandan's delicate mingling with the sandalwood and pine resin notes. Each ingredient is perfectly measured. You get comfort and softness from the gourmand notes and a perfectly integrated freshness from the woody and grassy notes. This perfume is intriguing and chic while also feeling like a hug. There need not be a pandan perfume made after this. It is perfect. It took me one sniff of the sample (I must commend d.grayis' wonderful customer experience in how they package their samplers and scent cards) to order a full bottle. I am surprised by the review which said it was cloying. Unless you are sweating sugar, I do not see how that could be possible.

Obsessed. The first few minutes open with the savory & sweet buttered toast with sugar that my mom made for me every morning before elementary school. As it dries down you get this addictive, comforting grassy green sweet note from pandan. I am not a huge fan of eating coconut fruit and any coconut scented things (remind me of sunscreen). Yet pandan is grassy floral forward and the sandalwood comes through with a creamy base that isn't too lactonic and that doesn't make me nauseous. (Bianco Latte was offensive, I had to wash it off) This is an intimate, edible, creamy grassy sweet and savory hug. I love Diptyque l'eau papier. This is like a sweet nutty green floral version of that.

Ugh I love this. It's my favourite d.grayi perfume, if I had to choose one. Doesn't smell like a photorealistic pandan to me; moreso a freshly baked pandan waffle. It's sweet but not too sweet/sticky, it's musky and warm without being suffocating and it's got just a hint of green earthiness that can still make it suitable for warmer weather. I love that it also sticks well to my clothes too.

I just tried my sample of this and smells just like a pandan waffle, i’m absolutely in love. also the coconut is done beautifully in this fragrance it has a very nutty quality with the slightest bitterness that doesn’t make this fragrance too sweet. it is still a gourmand but it’s fluffy and light and can’t stop sniffing. I have yet to try it on my skin but currently addicted!

I am a sucker for fragrances with bready qualities and this is no exception! I took one sniff of a sample given to me by a friend and immediately purchased it. This is exactly what I was hoping it would be! Creamy, comforting, carby, and soft. I am completely obsessed! Highly recommend if you love a gourmand that isn't sweet and if you love any type of starchy fragrance!

Realistic pandan cake except richer and smoother with more vanilla (I understand they used real pandan tincture) plus some kaya from the coconut milk. I grew up in Southeast Asia but live abroad and this reminds me of all the best desserts from home. It's warm, gourmand but super unique. Longevity isn't great but I'm aware it's an EDT concentration.

The opening is pure vanilla extract and pandan leaves. Stays linear on my skin, a sweet woody scent without the cloying aspects of either. After searching for a perfect pandan, I think this is as close as it gets. I wish it stuck around a little longer, but I’m happy to reapply.

the perfect gourmand - sweet, but never cloying.

I bought a couple samples to dip my toes into this house, and just like with my other reviews I like to type up my review first then go back and look at the scent notes to see how good (or not) my nose is. With that said: Ho-LEEEEEE mo-LEEEE when they say bread they mean B R E A D, baby! This is extremely savoury on my skin initially, like straight up smells like a loaf of brown bread fresh from the oven, but luckily the sweetness ushers in pretty quickly. It goes from smelling like bread to smelling more like a pastry... very specifically the sweetness I get is like ube (which to me tastes like white chocolate and coconut), and more specifically still, Pandan smells like a Philippine-style bakery I like to go to sometimes, where I like to buy ube-filled croissants. :) ...Well would you look at that! Bread! Waffles! Coconut!!! I know I'm describing this as a gourmand but don't get the wrong idea; this is NOT mass appealing. The vibe of this house so far reminds me somewhat of Lush, in a way. Everything has this dirty, raw edge (I say this as a compliment) but is far more experimental than Lush's more modern offerings (think the likes of The Smell of Weather Turning or Breath of God for a similar "unpredictable" vibe). I'd say if you dig Lush and/or Zoologist you may like some of d.grayi's offerings! I'm having great fun with my samples, and I'm definitely making another order once the website is restocked.

I recently picked up a 15ml bottle of Pandan and I couldn’t wait to see what it smelled like. The first spritz instantly reminded me of pandan kaya toast or kuih bakar pandan, the kind of aroma you get when you slice into freshly toasted kaya bread or cut into a warm pandan cake. It wasn’t the fresh, green pandan juice note I expected but honestly, it’s still deliciously nostalgic and it reminds me of my hometown where I grew up. On my skin, it leans a little masculine because of the sandalwood and pine in the base, though I’d still call it unisex overall. The downside? Projection and longevity are pretty average, which surprised me given the premium price tag. I agree that it lasts longer when sprayed on clothes but keep in mind it could leave stains. Now I’m torn, do I go for the 50ml bottle or stick with what I have? I really enjoy the scent, but I’m not convinced the performance makes it worth the splurge. Since its sillage can be a bit polarising, I’d have to be selective about when and where I wear it.

After trying a sample of Dispelled and loving its artistry, I became really intrigued with this house. Pandan is named after green leaves of the pandan plant that are used in drinks, desserts, cooking, and baking in some Asian countries. I got some pandan powder from the Asian market in anticipation of getting this sample. The powder is very green and grassy with a bready and slight vanilla smell. I like how they’ve utilized the bready note here and turned it into pandan waffles. The bready note in the fragrance reminds me somewhat of Crumb Couture, but I like Pandan far better. There’s also a slight green note that you get every now and then, but it’s nothing like the green health food drink intensity you get from using powdered pandan (thank goodness). The main thing you smell here is vanilla. So, it’s a bready vanilla with a hint of planty greens. I think I like this vanilla fragrance most for daring to be different.

I feel like every note they listed does come through in some form or another in this scent. My objective here was to smell like walking into a warm Japanese bakery in the morning, when the fluffy bread is at its most fresh and delectable. This fragrance did an awesome job at depicting this for me! It composes a warm savory bread scent with a coconut-y creamy pandan sweet treat. I do smell that pine that was listed, which i wasn't crazy about when I smelled that note come through, but once it sits with your skin and the dry down happens, it blends with the softer sweeter notes in a very charming manner, it's not overpowering by any means. I love how this scent is so soft and delicate, but not weak. It stays with you for quite the time. I do wear it when I want a cute sweet comfy feel to the upcoming warmer days, but I know when autumn comes along I will wear it obsessively !

Very nice. Kind of mad my bottle was marked at discount and was missing what was probably equal to the discount, here's looking at you Lvl.1 studios. Overall the scent is sweet, but not sugar sweet. Green. Very green, herbal sweet. Milk bread, Very little coconut to my nose, as I'm not a fan of it, but this is super well done, sweet herbal goodness. I can see why it won an award, regardless of how popular it becomes. Beautiful scent, definitely unisex, decent enough performance.

Very unusual, pleasant gourmand. It opens slightly herbaceous, earthy, and green-- with a hint of vanilla. It's sweet, but not too sweet. There's a bit of creaminess and sensuality from the sandalwood. If you are looking for something a bit sweet and comforting, yet suitable for warm weather -- this is it. Unfortunately, I don't smell any bread. Just a hint of waffle.

I immediately get hit with a vanilla ice cream smell right off the bat. Then it settles down with that same smell but warmer (bread-y maybe?) and with a hint of cologne. To be honest I've only had real pandan once in my life but the sandalwood and pine notes do give depth to the vanilla and coconut that could be reminiscent of it.

Still really freaking NICE! It's sweet safe and sexy. I swear to goodness! It's so fluffy and nice, milky bread. You can absolutely spray a few times in room to relax. Wonderful stuff here.

Sweet pandan-coconut waffle with heavy, sticky syrup, almost caramel-like. Sandalwood deep in the background to give it some body. I get a white floral somewhere there too—jasmine maybe? The overall impression is vanilla coconut dessert with bready nuances. Pandan is not the star of the show, at least on my skin. Sickeningly sweet when you stuff your nose into it. At a (short) distance, it is breadier, with a vague pine note. Similar to the maltol-sweet pine of Imaginary Author's Cape Heartache. A gourmand, through and through. I'm hoping to encounter a green Pandan leaf fragrance in the future. Or perhaps layering this with a green fragrance might yield interesting results.
