Bois d’Argent Esprit de Parfum

Got hold of a decant today. It's very nice, much better than the EDP. I never smelled the original EDP so I can't compare, but the esprit is rich and deep, enveloping me in warm incense and iris. I'm getting the ambergris and vanilla too. The effect of this perfume is a sort of smouldering, woody incense, with some oozing honey and vanilla, but minimal on the sweetness. For those saying it's faint, it takes me about 15 mins after spraying before it becomes noticeable, then it gets stronger and stronger, so be careful! I get stellar longevity, even after climbing for 3 hours (very sweaty) I can still get wafts of it, but not in an obnoxious way, it doesn't have scratchy base chemicals. I'm not a lover of Kurky's output since at Dior (I think the Sauvage flanker was better than any of the privées he's done), and I haven't thought much of the other esprit line scents (although I haven't spent time with them). This is, however, a hit for me. If Kurky and Bisch are the pefume bros du jour, I choose Francis every time. They are so prolific right now it seems everyone else must be losing work. Shame, I'd love to see Karine Vinchon Spehner take the helm at some massive fragrance house (or better still, set up her own), and be given free reign. Update: the skin scent after 12 hours or so is identical to MFK Kurky.

I am a Dior private line newcomer, so I have a feeling that is going to skew my point of view quite a bit here...but I love this. Aside from being insanely overpriced, this fragrance just makes me feel good. And comparing it to the EDP (most recent formulation), it's exactly what I would have hoped for. I love the EDP, but find it's performance lacking. This dials everything up the perfect amount (it's still not a room-filler...which I consider a good thing), while staying pretty much true to the EDP's vibe. I find this fragrance to be in a similar vein to Bal D'Afrique Absolu...not in how it smells necessarily, but just that it's so comforting to wear, smells so pleasant, and the performance is a long-lasting perfect scent bubble just for me. I put this on after a long day, when it's time to relax unwind. Feels like an insane premium to pay for such a feeling, but given that I've found few fragrances that recreate it as well as this does...well, I'll consider myself blessed that I can afford it today.

I hate these reviews anymore. It’s literally bashing the brand, the fragrance, the influencers, the price. What does the fragrance smell like?? Just say that and go. Between the constant trolling hot takes and the reviews before people have even smelled it, it’s sickening. Anyway! What does it smell like. I’ll say I wasn’t a huge fan of the original. The scent profile always smelled just a bit dated to my nose. This Esprit version is much more my style. It starts of with sweet thick honey in the opening. I almost regretted my purchase but after about 15 minutes that dies down a bit and the iris and amber start to shine through. BDE is a warm radiating sweet powdery amber, with just a bit of incense. It almost reminds me of perfumed powder. If that’s your style, proceed. If not don’t buy it! I purchased retail and I’m enjoying my purchase. It smells amazing to me, longevity is great and silage is good. I’m imagining this will get sweeter and a bit more intense as it ages.

This has been my favorite Iris recently. I love this scent for what it is: a clean, slightly sweet, ‘your skin but better’ fragrance. I find it to be comforting, cozy and even a little low key sexy. Bois D’argent Esprit is incredibly well blended, sophisticated and balanced. This is understated, ‘easy reach’ elegance. The opening is sweet realistic honey. The iris is powdery but not cloying, and the frankincense never pulls too green. I love the balance of ambergris and vanilla with just enough ambroxan to feel modern. Apart from the honey opening, the notes are almost indistinguishable. I felt the edp version was too woody and masculine for me while Esprit is sweeter and more unisex. This isn’t going to fill a room, and the longevity could be better. But, as a scent it’s divine.

I’m convinced the people who reviewed Bois D’Argent Esprit and answered the reminds me section have never actually smelled this fragrance. BDE was a complete blind buy for me, I’m also not a fan of the original at all. My initial spray immediately after receiving almost smelled like regret. Almost. I waited a few days and did an actual full wear. Not on a piece of paper, not a sample on a dirty hand. An actual full wear from a full bottle and it was amazing. It’s an addictive, full bodied, powdery, honey fragrance with just enough incense to make it interesting. I haven’t smelled anything like it. Certainly not the original. In my opinion, I wish it came in a bigger bottle but I think it’s worth every penny. It literally smells and fees like luxury!

These reviews/ratings are wild. I love the scent profile of the original and have wished and waited for a better performing version since I first laid nostrils on it. And... Viola! Here it is. The amber is amped up certainly, but how else do you expect it to perform better? It's pretty darn close to the same scent - spicy, honeyed woods smoothed out by some iris, grounded by incense and amber - but this projects more and actually lasts. It also doesn't go in the dandy powdery direction like the original. Perfect. Wish granted! Best thing FK has done for Dior.

I really enjoy this. It took two full samples before I came to that conclusion. And now I have a full bottle. I enjoy it more when sprayed on clothing, then it’s very long lasting. Really ethereal and well done. I suggest anyone who gave this a critical review, to smell it more over a period of time, as with any fragrance, before giving your judgement. In particular, I find the official fragrantica review, where they allege kurkdjian copied himself, to be a vulgar mishandling of words and they too should take the suggestion above to heart. 💕

This is a hidden gem within Esprit line. It’s probably the best Iris scent I’ve ever smelt. The honey note just works so well providing a natural sweetness that last through the entire day. The magic is in the dry down just spray it on skin and let it develop, you’ll see how beautiful this is.

Had the opportunity to try in store at Galleries Lafayettes in Paris (exclusive right now, global release around August). It's have the same vibe, intensity and longevity that first batches of the perfume.

This reminds me so much of New Look 1947 by Dior, I have both and they're the same vibe! This is insanity, bois d'argent on powdery steroids with mega sillage+projection!

Was able to snag a partial bottle pre release and I like it, but it’s definitely a head scratcher. It shares a lot of the appeal of the original and has a wonderful cold incense and honeyed opening, but the performance is just not there. I might be going anosmic to the ambroxan and ambergris molecules, but I genuinely couldn’t smell it after about an hour or two. Other people could smell it on me, but it’s so soft that I feel most people will be disappointed if they expect a louder version of the original. Also, can’t smell the Iris, myrrh, or the resins from the original and after the fun incense opening it settles into a boring soft musky skin scent... TLDR: It’s good, but not worth the price

The honey opening had me tantalised, so I sprayed Bois d’Argent Esprit de Parfum onto my wrist. But after a few minutes, the powdered honey bliss had shrunk away. What remains is a fuzzy, musky, cashmeran and ambroxan-lead Molecule No.1 style scent. It either reduces back into a super-close skin scent or I’m nose-blind to it (or both) but I was longing for that honey opening again, so I sprayed twice more on my neck. Again I can’t detect much more than a fuzzy ISO-E musk and no one around me can smell anything either. So it was lovely initially but I’m not sure if it even exists.

The longevity of this perfume is definitely nuclear.. not sure why people can’t smell it after a while? But the smell is not very different from the original, while this is more incense and the original more woody/amber. The drydown is quite similar though, you’ll get this airy honey iris, which feels like a dream, airy thing. It’s good but the price..??? Not sure if it’s justified. But hey who cares grey market in Europe 50% off retail haha.

Nice smell, but same as vanilla from le labo I find it very hard to justify the price tag for what it offers.

Heavy ambroxan in opening and 0 projection kmt. Smell eventually turns nice but overall, a dissapointing release. You're better off getting Guerlain - Tobacco Honey.

I have a friend that works for Dior that offered me this because I love Bois D'Argent. I can tell you with utmost certainty, it's not worth your money. Is this perfume called "esprit de parfum" because it is just the spirit that's left? No longevity, no sillage, no complexity. It's like Kurdijan did a Zara dupe from Bois D'argent but tripled the price. People buying this just do it for the status. "My perfume is 380 GBP for 80 mL".

Way overpriced. smells like the old version, but slightly stronger. I used to be a huge fan of the Dior Privée collection. the latest changes (constantly reformulations, bad perfumes publish, bottles size decrease and prices increase (again!) ), made me look elsewhere.

It was absolutely not for me. The notes are more suited towards a home air freshener. As someone who grew up in the Middle East, it took me straight to the smell of louban or frankincense and that’s basically all I get, apart from the initial brief iris

Just buy more bottles of the original instead of this. I see no enhancement in the experience, on the contrary, the opening is stuffed and stale on the skin, like a dupe of the original.

I never understood this Esprit line. Bring back the magic to the Privee line instead of regurgitating perfume releases.

That's the sort of capricious snobbery that screams "I'm credit rich but money poor." No one who comes from or made real money speaks like that. Another example of the venomous little gutter-snipes around here tearing someone else down because they don't feel the quality of the product matches the retail. Please get help. Now that I've got the gravy out of the way, onto the meat 'n spuds. I think Bois d'Argent's Esprit iteration is a fine edition to the line up - the more intense and tenacious flanker many of us have been craving for years. But it's hardly the be all and end all. It's honey, iris, and frankincense forward. The frankincense is fantastic, very pure and high quality-smelling, more classically "incensey" than most frankinces absolutes available these days, which tend to be more lemony and turpene-heavy than you'd expect. It really pulls things together with a certain diffuse muskiness. Whilst I love it, I find it hard to justify at its price point because I don't actually envision wearing it very often, and these things have shelf lives. I don't mind paying if I know I will get good use out of it, but there's an element to this that reminds me of a cheap women's musky perfume from the the 1990s that I can't quite place, but picture in my mind's eye (nose?) every time I smell it. I don't have this experience when sniffing the eau de parfum.

Huge fan of Dior’s Private Collection line, yes, very much even still after FKs appointment, but this one is a dud. It doesn’t smell bad, don’t get me wrong, but this absolutely doesn’t qualify for a £380 per 80ml ‘ultra-premium’ of an already premium line of fragrances. It just doesn’t. If I blind purchased for the full retail price and got this, I would be disappointed. I would. Smells like if Escentric Molecule 01 had an Iris note. In fact, I seemed to have a foggy memory of Escentric 01 releasing an Iris version and I checked and they did. I’m eager to know if these two fragrances are as similar as I’d imagine them to be now. I know Escentric 01 is Iso E Super, rather than ambroxan like this, but that’s just what I smell. Weird. Overall this is a really pretty, pleasant, airy, sweet, powdery ‘clean’ scent, but just not a collection of fragrances that I believe it belongs in. I imagine a minimalistic, stylish, well groomed young man wearing this scent, though it is ultimately unisex. Fwiw, I tried to sell my bottle to my older brother and he said “eww” upon smelling it. 😒

Anyways: Bois d’Argent Esprit de Parfum doesn’t just smell clean — it smells composed. It opens with soft iris and a hint of incense, like cold air in a stone chapel brushed with powder. Then honeyed, slightly smoky woods emerge, wrapped around that waxy, elegant iris, turning it warm and skin‐like. There’s sweetness, but it’s sheer — more golden haze than syrup, balanced by a smooth, almost musky backbone. If you want a scent that feels like tailored cashmere in perfume form — refined, intimate, and quietly luxurious... this is it.

I get honey straight away, the powdery Iris kicks in quickly, then there’s something deeper lurking in the background - must be the frankincense. Basically, I can smell all the notes and it’s one of those scents that isn’t loud but demands that you re-smell it. It stays a long time on skin but never much projection and that’s why I kinda love it. It’s MY scent, nobody else’s and it’s comforting. Now, the obvious elephant in the room is would you want to pay £380 for this experience? Obviously subjective, I got it for a good price and would actually buy it again at retail if it runs out but that’s just me and I’m a fool. YMMV.

Based on the reviews, this is a highly subjective experience. I personally do not see a huge difference between the current EDP and this Esprit version. Both fail to strike the wonderful balance of vanilla iris and incense that the Annick Ménardo original did. Vanilla is the dominant player here as the other accords feel faint and confused next to it. I find the current version very weak and so the Esprit version is at least an improvement in performance. If you love the current EDP but wish it were more potent, than this Esprit version may be your pricey solution. 2 out of 5.

I’m not gonna give a bad rating because it might be good as a scent. My question is: does Mr Francis kurkdjian knows a thing else than amber? I kinda see the pattern here: amber, Ambroxan, ambergris, vanilla... this man creates amber after amber after amber after amber in a market full of ambers after ambers after ambers... amber used to be a favorite accord of mine.. now everywhere I go everything smells of yet another variation of amber....

I absolutely love the espirit line! This one however was a huge disappointment. It’s weak, minimalistic, soft scent that is barely there. It was a blindbuy as im a huge dior fan and could not imagine not liking any of the espirits. I have a few backups of ambre nuit and gris espirit and they are in my top five fragrances. Do not understand Bois D’argent espirit and selling my bottle.

So... here's a thought. If they're trying to venture again into stronger perfumes, instead of releasing an "esprit" that no one asked for, that doesn't even smell like the originial perfume (Hello? Where's the myrrh?!), how about bringing back Feve Delicieuse, Oud Ispahan, Cuir Cannage, Leather Oud, Patchouli Imperial?

I really like the dry down but the opening is just too sweet and candyish. I am still on the fence. Also I feel like although it is an extrait the sillage and projection are not great. Solid release anyway

First to comment wins a full bottle? No?! One can dream. I love the OG and always felt the Demachy formulation was a little light sauce this has potential to be great.

Holy POWDER. This is the MOST powdery perfume I've ever smelt. In fact, its so powdery that it's almost hard to breathe in. I like it.

Literally all this has to do is just be stronger and it will be a masterpiece please be amazing 😭
