Dior Addict Eau de Parfum

I purchased the original Dior Addict a while ago, based on reviews here (THANK YOU!), and have just obtained the 2012 reformulation (again- THANK YOU ;) They're remarkably different, so I thought a comparison might be of use. The original (no gold band, deep gold button, writing on upper portion of the bottle, paralell to the side edge, bottle is a deep transparent blue, fume is reddish amber) Is dark, spicy, reminiscent of many of the adored fragrances of the past (think Youth Dew, with no powder, but plenty of kickass attitude). I get a blast of vanilla from the beginning, the florals show up a little for the dry down, but mostly DA is, as reputed, a dark spicy vanilla bomb. The tonka bean is also very apparent, and gives the scent a heady sweet kick. I can see why people describe this as having a chocolate note! Definitely for winter and evening wear. Wonderful sillage and longevity....but doesn't transform very much on my skin. Which is just fine as this is a seductive powerhouse from start to finish. The 2012 reformulation (gold band below the sprayer, slightly lighter gold button, writing same as previous bottle, glass is mostly opaque, fume is deep amber) is less exciting, but more interesting, in my opinion. The heady sweetness and heavy spice are gone from the initial accord. Instead, it's silkwood, orange blossom, jasmine and mandarin leaf. '12DA is just as heady as the original, but much sharper, edgier, and distinctly floral, with less spice. After about 30 minutes, the flowers begin to mellow, and the vanilla and sandalwood come out to play. While the 12DA has good sillage for 1-2 hours, and leaves a touch of a trail after that, it isn't nearly as va-va-voom as the original. However, this makes it more flexible. I can definitely see wearing the 2012 to the office, and in the summer or fall, in addition to winter. It's softer, cleaner, and much more delicate in tone. You still get the long, lovely dry down, vanilla and sandalwood, but the '12 provides just a touch of tonka bean. In general the '12 remains crisper throughout. Still comforting and cozy in that final phase, but the florals linger, slooowly fading over time, providing a far more interesting trasformation than the original. '12DA isn't as exciting as '02DA, but it has a charm of its own. I really enjoy it. I suspect that the 2012DA may be a more generally wearable scent, while the original may not be friendly to everyone's skin. On me, neither scent produces rose or berry notes. Both are great, but these two versions are most definitely NOT interchangeable. If you like heavy orientals, go for the original. If you like florientals, you'll probably be much, much happier with the '12, and your pocket book will thank you as well. If you like both, you'll enjoy the variation and similarities between the two- they are really quite striking in contrast! Personally, I'm delighted to have both of these scents in my beginner collection. It's hard to believe that they were marketed as the same scent. If I found a scent with a flanker that had this kind of variation, I would be impressed that the house had put out two lovely scents, and baffled that they didn't give one its own name.

This is the first version of Addict I've tried, and I really love it. I tested it at Ulta before Christmas, and it made my mouth water every time I'd smell the beautiful, rich aroma. My husband gave me a bottle as a gift, and I was dismayed that I didn't enjoy the fragrance on myself as I'd remembered, so I returned it. After learning more about the reformulations, I realized that I had tested the 2012 and bought the 2014 (our local Ulta and Sephora both had 2012 testers and both versions in stock, intermingled in the shelves). When I realized I saw the older style boxes on the shelves at Sephora and Ulta, I bought them to set aside, since it sounds like it's not easy to find 2012 anymore, and I do love it. I've come to love the 2014 in it's own right, and I'll review it on that thread. Addict is a bold fragrance, and the 2012 version has some delightful qualities that I think make it worth adding to a collection if you enjoy vanilla. Addict is no syrupy-sweet, candy vanilla - it's rich, deep, boozy, mature (but not matronly). This version has a very distinctive mandarin/citrusy note in the beginning, which I find steps aside quite a bit in the drydown, revealing the rose. The rose note is not a powdery or generic rose, it's a vibrant and earthy rose. The citrus and rose give the 2012 a brighter element than the 2014 version, which is what I preferred I think. The 2014 had a rougher edge in my opinion, and I've come to appreciate that now - it's a bit dirtier and naughtier than the equally bold but slightly more polished and opulent 2012. I swear I smell tonka bean in the 2014, even though it's not listed in the notes. I've read other reviewers note a cinnamon note in the 2014, but I don't personally notice that. Cold winter air makes this fragrance dance around you beautifully and come alive! U I've not tried the 2002, although now I'd love to! I think both newer versions of Addict are worth trying on your skin and giving time to dry and develop. I have one on each arm now, and I can tell a difference in terms of the notes I've mentioned, but in general I think they share the same DNA and are really similar, although different enough that I enjoy having both versions. I do wish the stores would educate staff more about reformulations and be more diligent to stock and sell the same version as the testers they put out, since it's discouraging to test something and love it and bring home something totally different. I don't think most sales staff are aware of the formulation changes even though the boxes list the notes, and they clearly are different. I think that this 2012 version is more far away from the original Dior Addict than the newer, 2014 version. I smell a lot more mandarine in this one than the others. And it's not actually really even listed officially on the other versions, only on this one. Of course you can't trust the notes that are listed here, I don't know who lists them but they for sure are not all the same that Dior in it's packages and website says -> So here are the REAL ones: - The original has: Silktree (aka Mulberry) flowes, Mandarine Leaf, Orange Blossom, Night Queen Flower (aka night blooming cereus), Bulgarian Rose, Vanilla Absolute, Mysore Sandalwood & Tonka Bean - The 2012 has: Mandarine, Night Bloming Cereus & Vanilla - The 2014 has: Orange Blossom, Mandarine Leaf, Jasmine Sambac Absolute & Bourbon Vanilla accords (These are all facts from Dior's website and from the back of the tester bottles of these scents) Anyway, all of these scents are very sweet on my skin. This 2012 one tho is straight away sweetness from the beginning to the end. Sweet orange with vanilla and night queen flowers which are vanillic naturally too. There might be some sandalwood and musk. I feel those two in every version even tho they are not listed except the sandalwood in the original. The original isn't sweet right away it's more spicy first and then develops the sweetness, and the newest 2014 version is first very green (mandarine leaf) and fresh, and then also developes in to the sweetness of the unique Vanilla of the Addict. The longevity in the 2012 version is the shortest of all three. The other ones last almost all day on my skin. This one lingers very close to the skin and stays there only for 3-5 hours. And the sillage in this is also not as heavy as it's in the original. The bottle itself is nice, but I like the original and the 2014's bottle versions more. The light gold thing around the sprayer is a little bit weird, I don't know why. Artistically it just doesn't make sense why it is there. The original will always be my favourite like it is for many addict-fans. But in a different ways these newer ones are great too. Thank goodness the original is still possible to get from some places, like ebay and perfume collectors. This version, if you can get it is still a great great buy ! But don't pay too much for it. It's not as great as the original. The newest version is just fine replacement for it.

Not a review but a warning !! Im a bit gutted and totally agree that there are possible fakes of this as I have had the same experience as the reviewer below me ( please c her review as it's spot on ) I also got duped with a probable fake 100 ml of this :( The batch code did not make sense and it lasted all of 1 to 2 mins. I reviewed it here ages ago and I did say I wondered about it's awful staying power etc. Looking at my genuine blue glassed Dior midnight poison the glass on the addict looks sprayed blue yet MP looks finished nicely with depth of colour to the glass and the glass is not sprayed but solid blue, under a lamp light the addict looks cheap but in daylight it's much harder to notice !!! I really check and it fooled me for a bit B4 questioning it. Generally the glass is just cheaper when u really look, possibly sprayed blue colour and scratched off fairly easily. Interesting they had gone to trouble of putting the Dior engraving on the gold top button bit too, so fakes will slip through easier when those little touches are met, but the fragrance lacks projection and staying power. Did anyone see the program about fake eggs lol it seems anything is faked nowadays, I read Chanel fragrance has been faked since the 1920,s so if your eyeing up a vintage look on web for signs of fake V real styles, quality , labels etc. The smell of this bottle is sorta horrible, dark vanilla and smoke. Not much else, Fake me thinks as I can’t smell hardly any notes listed on fragrantica. Edit: I’ve now got all three versions in 20 ml bottles and 50 ml! ( took a few years For me to get them as the fake put me off) Yay 😀 ! These are deffo genuine! Did my research b4 purchasing. As soon as I smelt these it became so obvious that my previous 100 ml Was fake all along it’s nothing like these. All the genuine ones smell beautiful, very tiny slight differences Between the 2002 - 2012- 2014 but all totally gorgeous! The bottles are amazing too , solid blue glass , perfect. Why people go crazy over reformulations on this one ill Never know as they are very similar and all equally stunning , Even the latest 2014 is scrumptious, slightly more floral, 2012 has a touch More berries, and 2002 is a touch darker but not by that much really. All versions last long and it’s become my favourite l💕 💗 💗

This is a perfume I really feel owns up to its name...Addict. That is how I feel when I have this on. It's like I just can't get enough of it. I just want to smell it over and over...in fact, I do smell it over and over! I literally feel addicted to it. At first spray, I can only pick up on the vanilla and spice but I think I can smell a twist of orange from the bottle and if I try hard enough, I think I can smell a little of the orange on my skin when first sprayed. I don't get much citrus at all though. To me, this scent sooo vanilla and spice. It is very creamy, dark, warm, and intoxicating. This is seduction in a bottle. Super alluring, inviting, and sexy. It seems to make others want to get closer to you. I can't blame them. In fact, I want them to get closer. I dare them to. Wearing this perfume is like my invitation to them to get next to me so they too can experience what I am experiencing. You know that feeling when something is so good you just can't keep it to yourself? This invokes that in me... This is definitely a statement perfume. There will be no doubt that the person wearing this is someone you want to know. The person wearing this is mysterious and enchanting. They are so magnetic yet so elusive. They seem so sweet but looking closer in their eyes you can see a trace of danger. There is just something about the person who wears this that you can't quite put your finger on but you can't help but want to know them. This is the image I get while wearing this beauty. The person wearing this will not be ignored....that'd be impossible. When you wear this you'd better be ready to own it or it will own you! I am not familiar with the original Addict but I think Dior does a beyond amazing job when it comes to longevity and sillage. 1 spray is more than enough for this one. I usually do 1 spray to my chest. If I go with 2 I'd make sure to spray the second lower...like around my stomach or my lower back. I only wear this one when fall/winter roll around because I think the spiciness would be too much in the warmer weather. I get a good 12+ hours out of this one even with just one spray. Be warned, wear this and people will be drawn to you.

Finally, I have all formulations of this fragrance (2002, 2012, 2014) and I can say my memory was correct! To me, the 2012 is the absolute best version. The 2002 is a rich vanilla, but with a slight green sharpness to it, so it keeps an undertone of bitter even though it's swallowed with sweetness. There is a slight damp, earthy texture to it that is almost moss-like... I think this gives this formulation the most unisex vibes out of all of them. The vanilla is strong, but is not the same vanilla in the mid-2000's that Dior uses (more feminine); their vintage vanilla is almost like a creamy unscented Play-doh scent (this is the smell of the vanilla is ALL vintage Dior fragrances). The projection is very moderate, but the longevity is great! The 2014 is heavier on the white florals. The rich vanilla and cinnamon-steeped milk still has a presence but it's the jasmine and other white florals that steal the show. It loses some of the sophisticated creaminess of the vintage formulation. Because the base notes are not as heavy, the longevity is not incredibly impressive; however, the projection is much stronger than the vintage for the first hour. Overall, this is a beautiful fragrance, but there's nothing "Addictive" about it, because it lacks that sweet dark depth that we find Addict so alluring for! The 2012 takes the best of both mentioned above! It retains all of the vanilla-spiced creaminess and depth of the vintage formulation but drops the slight green bitterness that gives it a more masculine vibe. It's slightly stronger of a formulation and projects better than the vintage, while also far outlasting the 2014 version due to the heavier base. It is everything Addict should be!

I can’t decide which is my favourite between this formulation (not to be confused with the newer 2014 fragrance) and the first og. What I adored about the original one was its masterful balance of the natural green notes and the lightly spiced vanilla. May have been a touch spicier than this too. There was something moodier about the og - maybe the blackberry note? In this formulation I don’t detect as much “green-ness.” I get more of the florals and spice-vinyl tinged vanilla. Absolutely stunning in its own right & the bottle it’s housed in? Pure class, the most aesthetically pleasing AND user-friendly bottle out of the lot. No faffing around pulling caps off - just like the 1st edition you got an inscribed twist knob that you also pressed. Except, this streamlined bottle had a more luxe feel and appearance in its presentation. So that might just nudge it ahead for me. I took this formulation for granted until it was disappeared & replaced. Now I consider myself blessed to have a well preserved, near full bottle of this ‘vintage’ in my collection. I reserve this for special moments and wear the current formulation more often, for the less special occasions. I’m not sure how but the scent seems to deepen and improve with time. Immediately I can smell this formula has a more complex composition than the current one. There isn’t a ‘bad’ version really. They are all stunning to my nose but the first two have more character and spice. The newest Addict is more floral forward and I guess adapted to modern tastes. There’s nothing more I can say that hasn’t already been said about her. Performance always gives beast mode and less is definitely more.

I bought this today (07/03/15)in John Lewis' in Milton Keynes where I had a really good discussion about Dior reformulations - and I have to say the SA was very candid about the fact that reforms are prevalent and seemingly constant for the whole industry. So it seems there is always going to be a running commentary about which version smells better, and I absolutely admit to being a vintage hoarder of a number of the CD frags. That said, I absolutely LOVE this perfume, it is just delicious. I snaffled a spray and carried on shopping, allowing it to bloom and develop on my skin before making a decision to purchase it. I could not stop sniffing my arm, it's warm with vanilla and peppery/spicy notes and I think I find it really interesting because it seems aptly named, I am completely addicted already. A good while ago I bought Addict when it was launched and rehomed it soon after - probably because I was a little younger and not such a fume head back then (shame on me I know). The 2012 version passed me by, partly because I had been so "meh" about the original. However, today I was on a mission to give it another go and I clearly have the latest version because I am sure John Lewis has a huge turnover of sales. All I can say is, yes it feels familiar, and yes it's certainly a Dior perfume but on my skin and to my nose, it's bloody gorgeous and I am very happy. Don't get me wrong, Diorella was my sig frag for AGES years ago and the new version is a rough approximation of the original so I know for those who have had their signature fragrances ruined by reformulation, it's heart-breaking and there's just no substitute for the original.

Okay, I tried Addict a couple years ago and did not like it...it was too obnoxious, muggy, rough around the edges, and made me feel claustrophobic. I liked the idea of the scent and the combination of the notes sounded amazing, but it was uncomfortable to wear. I tested it again a week or so ago (unbeknownst to me at the time, it was the reformulated version), and was so surprised that I LOVED it! Dark, powdery, balmy sweet vanilla, so sophisticated, smooth, provocative and rich...no mugginess, no jagged edges. Just yesterday I went into another store where they still sold the original formulation, and I took a quick spray, waited a while, and lo! It was like the first time I tested Addict, that malevolent black-berry vanilla smoke biting me on the nose with super sharp teeth (tbh I even wondered if it was the bottle that had gone bad? but I think that is just what original Addict smells like to me). I very soon figured it all out after that, and purchased the new version instead. It is the same dark, voluptuous scent, minus the 'aggressiveness', powdered, smoothed down, and forced to behave more like a lady. The old version is more smoky-woodsy with a tar-like nuance, and the new version is more balmy-powdery-velvety. It is still a sillage monster with fantastic longevity, just more refined and 'rounded'. I find this reformulated version to be more elegant and versatile. It reminds me of Ange Ou Demon personality-wise, both are dark, powdery, balmy vanillas, and I TOTALLY adore both! I realize I'm in the minority here, but I'm so glad for the reformulation!

The pre-reformulation Addict is one of my favorite fragrances, so I was a little apprehensive about what this version was going to smell like. It’s definitely still Addict, but there’s no denying it’s been watered-down. I never smelled citrus (nor anything else fruity) in the original. The same is true here. I find the original to be a very woody fragrance, with the mildly-sweet vanilla playing a supporting role to smooth and warm the darker elements. The original is also strongly medicinal and spicy, especially in the first hour or so of wear. The overall composition in the reformulated version is still much the same, but it is lighter, smoother, and softer. There seems to be more emphasis on the florals – it’s less dark, less spicy, less edgy. That unapologetically harsh, bitter-green opening in the original Addict has been toned down a lot, which will be a positive for those who disliked that aspect of the original. This is a more easily wearable version of Addict, with the caveat being that it’s not quite as memorable or as in-your-face. You may see that as either a pro or a con, depending on your opinion of the original. As a stand-alone fragrance, I still love this. However, I do prefer Addict pre-reformulation and will treasure my current bottle in all its oakmoss-laden glory. And although it’s unrelated to the scent itself, I also prefer the previous bottle. The deep-blue, almost-black bottle looked much sleeker and more elegant without the clunky gold ring interrupting the flow.

Addict - specifically the EDP - is a beast of a woman. You will find yourself completely enveloped by a heady shroud of mystical florals, then slowly and helplessly immersed into the darkly sweet base notes of vanilla and sandalwood. There is a tinge of mandarin orange that desperately lingers like a slow kiss; it is the one note that keeps you from slipping under Addict's spell entirely. Addict is truly the sensual bouquet of a villainess. Now, I did not know a thing about reformulations until I decided to revisit this website and look at the reviews for Addict. Apparently, there were two reformulations of Dior Addict, but I am lucky enough to still have my bottle (edp) I bought in 2011. I cannot speak for the later versions, but I am sorry to hear it is not the same! I have always loved Addict, though she certainly took a backseat in my collection for many years. I decided to give her the attention she deserved after all that time, so here I sit, wearing Addict and striking keys. This is one of the longest wearing perfumes I own. It's a winter scent, by far. You couldn't pay me enough to wear this in the heat of a Texas summer :p When I spray this, I go very lightly because a little goes a VERY long way. I cannot express enough how strong this fragrance can be! It will absolutely wear YOU, potentially smothering the poor, unsuspecting souls within your orbit if you overdo it. If you like a bold, sexy fragrance that borders the edge of danger, Addict is for you.

I have the 2012 version. The initial spray is nothing but spice (and it was quite nice). I did sneeze once or twice, but it didn't give me a headache. After a few minutes, the spiciness starts to slowly--very slowly--subside. On me, this fragrance is a spicy and warm vanilla with generous drops of juicy orange, and sensual florals that can only be described as succulent. I swear, the listed notes cannot be the only notes. There is *something* spicy in this fragrance that I cannot quite put my nose on. This fragrance actually makes my mouth water. Weird, right? I love this fragrance... It's my absolute FAVE. It is my "sexy" fragrance, and I reserve it for dates and special occasions. What could be better than sniffing this divine scent at the nape of a lovely woman's neck? I forgot to mention: One user (a male user) said he go a "cumin" smell, and I got a tad bit of that. I have a warmer body chemistry, so maybe this is what draws that smell out? It wasn't enough to make it stink, rather it made it more interesting, in my opinion. But that definitely accounts for the spice I keep smelling. Cumin isn't one of the notes, but something in this mixes to give a slight spice smell. I like it, though :) EDIT: The "cumin" smell quickly turns into a very earthy, yet still somehow creamy, vanilla. It's quite good, almost dirty, but really just downright naughty. I am SO in love with this fragrance. Not one to be tried on paper. You *have* to smell it on your skin!

Notes according to Dior website: Top: Mandarin Leaf and Orange Blossom Heart: Jasmine Sambac Absolute Base: Bourbon Vanilla I guess this is why I love the new version of Addict so much...orange blossom and jasmine are among my favorite notes, and here they are seductively blended with a rich, deep, hazy vanilla. I've never been a fan of the strong/tart blackberry note in the old version, or the woodsiness that made that one abit too 'rough' and bitter(?) for my liking. I do sense something else dark and balmy in this scent that still very much relates it to its predecessor (tonka bean maybe?), retaining Addict's distinctiveness. They're like sexy identical twins the two Addicts, similar in DNA, yet different in personalities. The 2002 is an edgy, intense diva in a leather corset dress, gyrating the night away at the hottest dance club in town. The 2012 is a smooth, sultry siren in a slinky velvet cat suit, crooning on stage at an exclusive jazz lounge. Like mentioned before by another reviewer, it depends what you are looking for, but both girls definitely enter the room to drop jaws. Floral-vanilla lovers looking for a dark, sexy, sophisticated evening fragrance should try it out, even if the 2002 Addict wasn't your cup of tea.

Reviewing all of the addict formulations 2002: I just purchased a 2002 formula of addict, and I'm a bit disappointed, since it's heavy on the green notes. the mandarin leaf is very prominent, much more than the vanilla and tonka. The sweeter notes come alive after 2-3 hours and the performance isn't as good as the 2012 reformulation. and oak moss is listed as an ingredient, so i assume that gives it an even more green kick. I'm not sure if I would keep this or give it away. 2002 can be worn by both men and women, It's definitely the most masculine out of the three formulations. 2012: The best addict formula! If you love Vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood you should definitely purchase this one. and the performance is better than the 2002 formula. it projects more. 2012 addict is comparable to modern men fragrance releases that revolve around vanilla and tonka bean. so this one is unisex in my opinion. if you are a gourmand lover, you need 2012 addict in your fragrance collection. 2014: Very disappointing. heavy on white florals, it loses its masculine edge and becomes your average women's white florals fragrance with a faint vanilla note. and the performance is average, definitely not on par with the 2012 or the 2002.

Heavenly. Heavenly. Heavenly. Out of my whole collection, this is my favorite. So easy to wear and always appropriate. Never too much, always enough. I am headache prone and this is one of the few that I can count out to never affect me that way. I love the minimalist, long, sleek bottle- easy to take with you even the big one. I always have a backup bottle. I will never get sick of this. When I first smelled it in Sephora, I was unsure. I wrote it off. Then I found a super cheap damaged tester on eBay and gave it a go. Wow it was like a totally different scent than I had tested. The rest is history, this is my ride or die, holy grail, tried and true fragrance. When I travel, this is all I take because she will just work for every outfit , every event, casual or formal, she works. The amount of compliments I’ve gotten on this, especially after hugging someone, is insane. This is just so beautifully done that I can’t fathom anyone not enjoying it. The longevity is eternal. It has stayed on my winter coat for 2 weeks, I don’t want to wash it because it’s so dried down that somehow it’s even more beautiful of a scent 2 weeks later. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for their scent

Dior Addict is one of few Dior fragrances I truly enjoy and fell for immediately. (The other immediate winner would be DUNE!) A certain comforting, musky (almond?) note in the base of this creamy, fuzzy, warm fragrance unifies everything to perfection, creating what I think of as an 'expensive' smell. And while Dune is unique to the point of niche status by today's standards, Addict is one of the most people-friendly and appealing fragrances one could choose. The notes I smell are simple and yet so amalgamated that one never stands out distinctly from the other: Orange blossom Musk Vanilla/Tonka Coumarin (gentle, powdery almond) Wood (the powdery kind) I was generously, thoughtfully gifted my slightly vintage bottle several years ago. It's possibly a 2012 or later... It's one of those fragrances that improve as the liquid becomes darker over time. (The vanillin? The same is true for JPG Classique.) I truly find the scent to linger for days on cloth and recommend spraying on dark jeans or hair for the very best dry down imaginable. The PERFECT sweater fragrance for cold weather - a combination of comfort and seduction. Phenomenal fragrance - five stars. <3

2014 reformulation lists Jasmine Sambac Absolute, Orange Blossom (wha... What?) and Bourbon Vanilla. Say something nice: the packgaging has some nice details and the Jasmine smells very natural actually. Seemingly with each reformulation Addict loses some weight on the Spices department, which is what made this perfume "oriental", this reformulation is too floral, one plus is that you get 30ml on the small bottle (used to be 20ml).and that's all. I find it to be more floral than 2012 and less spicy than 2002, the box is rather ugly, the nozzle sprays like a shower (not sure If good or bad, but May lead to over application). Has a weird incense-y vibe down and close to the nose. Still smells something like Addict. This is so depressing right now. ETA: asked the s.a. About the reformulation, she said (as they always say - I've been asking around for like three months now) that they only changed the bottle design, which prompted me to say (she had the 2012 tester) check the notes on the bottle you've got and the box you're selling to me and then tell me If you find ANYTHING DIFFERENT. She did, then I told her: You need to change your speech girl. SMH

Thanks to a lovely Fragrantica member I've had the opportunity to wear Addict EdP and the old Addict (2002) side by side. While these two are easily recognizable as sisters, they do differ quite a bit. Old Addict is sharper, it is spicy and the leaf-greens are greener and a little bit prickly. This is dark and heavy and balances masculine and feminine energy beautifully. It seems that the new Addict has taken all the edges of the old Addict and sanded them down with a cloud of smooth and heavy vanilla musk. Gone is the prickliness. Gone is the interplay between masculine and feminine aspects. New Addict is completely feminine and very unapologetic about it. It's warmer and sweeter. And it's also beautiful, in its own way. I understand why fans of the original are pissed off about this new version, because it isn't so much a reformulation as it is a flanker. However, having never owned the old Addict before now, I can see the beauty in both. And maybe I'll lose any fragrance cred I managed to build up over the past years, but if I'm completely honest...I think I might love the new Addict just a little bit more.

A few days ago, received a new, sealed bottle of 2012 (estate sale.) I never tried any version of this before. If you like vanilla, this is a grown-up version. I find it a slightly smoky, slightly spicy vanilla, not too sweet. I would prefer that the floral notes were more noticeable, I don’t smell them at all, but it is a likeable vanilla for someone who isn’t crazy about most vanilla scents. My current favorites at the moment are Prada La Femme Intense, Givenchy Dahlia Divin Nectar, most of the Elie Saabs, and I still do like Coco Mad, but will replace that with Coco Mad Intense next time. Just thought I’d mention this for reference, seeing what others love helps me make a better informed decision. I find I get bored with Addict after 4-5 hours, and spray over with something a little more floral. For me, this is a sweater-weather, I-want-to-feel-warm, scent. I don’t find it sexy, in the way that it doesn’t make me feel sexy, cozy would be a better term. I can’t see me buying it again, but I did want a pre-2014 version while it could still be found.

How i love this one♥️. I couldn't believed my eyes when i saw a big bottle for sale for only €5. It was used but definitely 70ml remaining of the 100ml. And boy i'm over the moon of joy because it is an original and takes me back to the first bottle i had of this beautiful classic. It's sweet vanilla, seductive, very sexy and strong. It's classy and long lasting. This edition is very similar to the original i once had. Many years ago i had a perfect dupe for this beauty and it was Jacomo Silences Purple for a fraction of the price. But unfortunately it has been discontinued for a while so i had to do years without this heavenly perfume. I'm not willing to pay Dior prices as i have a very big collection and for the price of one i can buy 10 beautiful vintage second hand perfumes. 😊. But sometimes you are very lucky like i was this time.

I have the 2012 formulation and I have heard this described as a boozy, vanillic gourmand which it most definitely is but that's not all I get. It reminds me of sugared spices, vanilla and orange peel soaked in liqueur dried out, powdered and used in the traditional Christmas cake made in my part of the world. Baking this cake fills my home and heart with what I associate to be the scent of Christmas for me and my family. It settles into in a beautiful spicy, rosy, vanilla scent on me. The performance on this is one of the best I have seen, I can smell it on my clothes for two days after I spray it. Sillage is great enveloping me in a lovely scent bubble that I can smell every time I move and projection is fantastic too! This has to be my most favorite fragrance to wear over Christmas time and I love love love it!!!!

OK I am editing this because I have been confused as hell as to which version I have. So many variations. Solid bottle with gold top, banded bottle with gold band, banded with silver band, removable cap, non removable cap.. bla bla Dior you morons stop changing stuff. So here goes. I do have one original bottle and one from 2012. Dear God this is incredible. They both smell identical to one another with the exception of longevity and depth. The untrained nose might not even know this or someone who did not regularly wear this fragrance.. Anyhow it's a gorgeous scent it has lots of depth and I get mild floral but more of a vanilla spice. A very sexy warm fragrance that is perfect for days like today that are chilly and gloomy. I can see this easily being ones signature. It's one hell of a fragrance.

Have been searching for something like this for a while but there's nothing like it, so I bought it. I'm smitten, for sure. Even with its reformulation, it's a gorgeous blend of warm vanilla, and cool white florals with slight zest and spice. Much less spice than the original, it seems.. I actually find this quite light, and not overpowering or strong at all. I almost wish it were stronger, deeper, or spicier -- still have yet to encounter something as delicious or definitively vanilla with a twist. Sillage and longevity are fine by me, wears about 6 hours strong then tapers off into skin scent territory. People can smell this on me, but it's so light and inoffensive, most people can't tell it's me until they come close. Will always have room for this: it's fun, soft and incredibly smooth.

Before anyone gets worked up... The notes on Dior's site have been at odds with the notes listed here since at least March. Either there has been a third reformulation (and for the better, you can search the women's board to find my posts from now and back in March) OR, and I am actually beginning to think this is very likely, there has been no reformulation at all and people are just finally noticing that this is yet another incorrect note listing. For what it's worth, Sephora has always listed the notes as: Silk Tree Flower, Mandarin Leaf, Orange Blossom, Queen of the Night Flower, Bulgarian Rose, Bourbon Vanilla Absolute, Mysore Sandalwood, Tonka Bean. I don't believe Dior puts out full note lists, really. Just look at their pages for J`Adore, Poison, and Dune.

Sophisticated, classy, unisex, niche quality, unconventional, spicy, earthy, green. I generally dislike green notes but this is gorgeous stem, flower, leaf like green-ness with heavy added non-gourmand vanilla, even the floral and spicy aspects of this are green instead of white or woody like moss and dried leaves covered wood. The dry-down is where the magic happens. Love it when i wake up from a nap having worn this during the day and the dry down is projecting off warmed skin. Moneyed boss lady vibes, 35+, not for the young-uns. For work, for date night, 3 to 5 sprays are enough even for the over-sprayer. Longlasting. Have never tried the 2002 OG or the current 2014 reformulation. Thinking of finding and storing a back-up bottle of this 2012 batch.

Ah! They reformulated Addict AGAIN! So now there are 3 versions...I tried the latest version today and felt like crying. It's sweeter, 'flatter' and more vanillic than the 2012 version (which I own, and did a side-by-side comparison!), and it is also less floral, less powdery, and ALOT less interesting, less seductive. If Addict 2012 was a toned-down version of Addict 2002, then Addict 2014 is Addict 2012 watered down with cheap vanilla body spray, imagine that, it would make any Addict fan cry lol. Though I am not the biggest fan of Addict 2002 (2012 version is my choice), I would MUCH rather wear that than this latest release. It now smells like all the other mainstream vanilla-based fragrance which can be gotten at a lower price. I am crushed!

I love this. I mean I really, really, really love this!!!!!! I am a guy who likes to wear men's and women's fragrances but I'm picky with both. I don't go for anything too boring or ordinary. I always look for something special in every scent I'm drawn to. Everything I love about a ladies fragrance that is totally wearable by a man is wrapped up in this gem. It's edgy and sophisticated and when you wear it you can feel an aura of something wonderful enveloping your senses. It's irresistible. I feel incredibly confident when I'm sporting this. Like I'm ready to take on the world. I am a huge vanilla lover and this perfume does it really well. I could wear this every single day and never get tired of it. One of my absolute favorites!

What do I say about this beauty. It is a wonderful, warm and comforting scent which lasts almost an entire day. Sillage is lovely too, this is the kind I prefer. Unfortunately most fragrances available today do not offer that, unless they are from some niche perfume houses. I made a huge mistake when I tried addict and addict 2 and asked my cousin to choose the better one. I should have gone with my choice. Addict 2 is nice too but nothing special, nothing like addict at all, just some generic nice smelling stuff. I have to get addict asap to stop regretting not having bought it already. It smells comforting at best. Give yourself time to love it. Do not decide that you don't like it, you could be very wrong.

This is my Vegas perfume. Whenever I go to Vegas with my husband or girlfriends, I wear this monster. It is loud and looking for a good time. When I initially put it on, I smell vanilla, spices and trouble. The next morning when I still smell it on me, I smell a sweaty, chain smoking, old woman who had way too much fun the night before. You either love it or hate it. This is not for the shy, introverts who sip champagne. This is for the scotch drinking, Metallica loving girls in Valentino shoes. Wear with caution. One or two sprays lasts all night and longer. I literally smell up the lobby of the Bellagio in a good way.

this is my holy grail perfume. I get so many compliments about how good I smell when I wear it, even one time at the gym. This. Perfume. LASTS. You spray it on clothes? You’ll smell it on them for days. The scent is so beautifully complex and seductive, and one bottle lasts me about a year with every day use. The price point is definitely on the higher end, but I find it to be absolutely worth it. The only warning I would give is that it is a heavier perfume, so it’s easy to go overboard if you use more than three sprays. But I love love love love love this perfume and it will be my number one forever.

Dior Addict EDP opens with a burst of mandarin, then it begins to develop rose, jasmine and blackberry with a hint of fresh green leaves. As it dries down the bourbon vanilla comes through and settles into a creamy vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood fragrance. After it’s dried for a while it develops a creamy sweetness. If you like a fruity citrus vanilla, creamy not powdery, with a tiny hint of sandalwood, but not woody, then this is probably for you. It is strong and it lasts. It is multi layered and sophisticated, a pleasure to apply and smell the black magic of perfumery unfold.

I have the vintage. Perfect. I also have the newer EDP but not sure from which year. Whatever year it was -- it's still amazing! It's vanilla, sandalwood, and all the great notes listed here. Just beautiful. I sprayed at 8 a.m. and now at 2 p.m. it's still going strong and gorgeous. I've had compliments on this one to the point where some even said, I remember that great perfume you used to wear back in 2003. (What?!?!? Obviously, the vintage!) Can you imagine someone remembering that? Must have made quite an impact! :) Don't miss the experience with Addict....

I really like this reformulation, I've been put off by the original a lot because It had that old lady-ish powderyness with the sweet and berry and vanilla. It was too much for me, and this feels more comfortable to me. This is not a watered down version of the original, it's just different, I guess the notes are very well picked as they radiate as the original Addict did, but in a cleaner way. The cereus is always there, first up front and then in the background, it differs it's spectrum as the vanilla note comes forward. I do miss the tonka note, whatsoever.

I tested this on paper and on my skin in Store. For the entire day I kept getting whiffs of it and I knew I had to order it. Dior Addict is Intoxicating! It's a boozy cinnamon vanilla with a hint of citrus. I find it to be rich, creamy and sexy. I think this would be suitable for colder weather and for me as a woman, I thoroughly enjoy it! It has great projection and longevity. I would say that it's not your typical girly scent, so if you are looking for something a bit different with greater depth then you may want to give this a sniff.

At my skin this new Addict Edp with cap is very much similar to Addict Edp from 2012. Only change I found is from beginning and its about projection. I needed 3 sprays from new one where is cap versus old (2012) only one spray to get the same intensity. Then it cleared up why it is so.. they have changed spray system for new one - there comes less liquid at one spray push. After half hour to one hour these two are similar at my skin. Though new Addict EDT is totally different scent than this deep blue bottled Addict EDP.

Whats not to say divine smell,I have old gold top formulation 100ml bottle which dark juice has got better with age as kept in cool dark place and i had a few of the old bottles in my time. spray with caution this has enormous silage and staying power. Not sure about reformulation bottle that now being made yet to give it a try. I found a fantastic dupe of this in French Brand called Verset Charm OMG the notes are exactly same as Dior Addict for fraction of the price. I can smell of Dior Addict all day every day.

This is the best Addict. For me it's better than the original, it's smoother, more sensual...romantic even. The sillage/longevity is excellent too. I'm so sad that this is pulled off the shelves. The 2014 version is not bad, but no nightblooming cereus, no silkwood blossom. The addition of silkwood-blossom in this version of Addict was what made this one so sensual and beautiful to me...it gives the vanilla scent a fuzzy, velvety nuance. I love silkwood blossom...wish it would be used more often in perfumes.

I was lucky enough to find this beauty on the shelf while shopping yesterday just by chance! I checked the batch code and it was made in Feb2013. I can not express enough how fortunate that situation was. I love the 2014 Addict but Wow, I have to say that this 2012 is AMAZING!!!! This one is creamier and smoother than Addict of 2014. The 2014 is more in your face where as this one dances around you in a sultry and caressing manner. I just love everything about it, even the bottle with the gold twist nozzle.

The 2012 formulation was definitely the most feminine and the smoothest version of Addict out of the 3 formulations, and it was also my favorite. Both the 2002 and 2014 are unisex to my nose, sharper and more lemony. Addict 2012 is to Addict 2002/2014 what Hypnotic Poison eau Sensuelle is to Hypnotic Poison. Both smoother and more rounded around the edges compared to the originals. I also prefer HP Sensuelle to HP. Pity that both Addict 2012 and HP Sensuelle are gone from the market.

This perfume has got hot written all over. When I just got it a couple of years ago I found it so beautiful that I used to wear it all the time. Then I smelled it on another young woman and it was sexy to the point of making me feel embarrassed. So I realized this is hot stuff, not screaming but alluding sex in every direction and now I wear it only when I consciously want to feel really sexy or to seduce someone. It's a powerful weapon. This should be used with caution, not Diesel!

Dior Addict is a thick, powerful, green vanilla. Its conspicuous. You'll want to sneak close to the person wearing it to catch another whiff. I would say this is the perfect scent for a blind date. I have the vintage formulation that comes in the holographic box. I tried the modern one at Sephora and its quite different, much fresher and less sweet. It lacks the creamy vanilla heart but retains the same greenness which gives Addict its identity... I'm actually addicted.

I understand the anger about reformulations.. I have never had the pleasure of experiencing the original Addict, but THIS ONE SMELLS BEAUTIFUL !! Seriously, it is soo smooth & mellow. It's like a vanilla latté with orange zest & a smidgen of spice sprinkled on top. So beautiful :) Edit: 2/4/2015 Oh did I say I LOVE this in my previous post? Nope! I dont see it lol. This is my very first experience with CD fragrances & a great choice for the first I may add. UMMM........

After more than 10 years, I have finally finished my bottle. This is bittersweet as this was truly my first signature fragrance. I’m afraid since the reformulations, I will never find the exact same smell again. I’m truly sad. When I would go on a date or some important event, this would be my go-to. Most important events within the last decade are defined by this scent. My collection has grown since I first bought this, but it will forever be a part of my memories. ❤️

Smelled the new reformulation today with the silver cap. Firstly the bottle is so much cheaper, the spray atomizer is so much cheaper and sprays way worse. The opening is very similar to the previous two formulations but then this one becomes a more linear vanilla with a hint of florals. I found it did to me last longer than 2012 version however. In all seriousness it didn't need to be changed, why change something that doesn't need to be changed?

I just received my bottle from eBay in the mail. I think I have the OG formulation. Can anyone confirm? There's no cap that you pull off, you twist the top to open the sprayer. The print on top is gold. "Christian Dior" running vertical. Bottom part of bottle has "Dior Addict" in whitish letters running vertically down left side of bottle. Notes on back of bottle. If this is the OG formulation, I'm really excited n I got this at an amazing price.

Third review: I still prefer the older version: it was more complex, oriental (incense note), darker, spicier. Anyway, this eau de parfum is amazing, and I love wearing this when I'm in the mood for a sweet, sultry scent. This is one the best sweet perfumes around and it's very sexy too. A gorgeous vanilla. A sensual, longlasting, feminine, warm, powdery vanilla scent. It's a modern, younger Shalimar (the drydown is very similar IMO)

I'm completely speechless. This is the epitome of sensuality, a hundred percent winsome scent. A fascinated dark and smoky vanilla blended by the most exotic smell of night-blooming cestrum opening after a fresh summer night rain. It's very linear, lasts for years and takes all the room. For Addict works, needs a thoroughly hand spraying, just one spritz is enough. I know, was re-formulated, but i really don't care. Respect for Dior.

Call me a philistine, but I enjoy the reformulation far more than the original, which wore like a radioactive blast of cotton-candy vanilla. The new Addict is smoother and quieter--still sweet, to be sure, but tempered with subtle florals and a shroud of smoky vanillic incense. Leaves an intriguing trail. No longer as provocative (or obnoxiously attention-seeking) as the original, but still a damn good vanilla.

I have this for some months now, and to be honest, I wasn't impressed. It smells a bit too linear. But then the winter came. There's snow outside, everybody is ice skating, and suddenly this fragrance has become the most heavenly smell on earth. This perfume needs COLD weather. Freezing cold. It loves snow, ice, freezing your fingers off coldness. It's a Winter Queen, Elsa's got nothing on her.
