Dior Addict

I was fortunate enough to obtain an immaculately preserved half bottle (smaller one) of the OG 2002 formulation of Addict, and I'm delighted by it. As much as I love the 2014 reformulation by Demachy, Wasser's original seems more complex, even when I account for the two-decades' worth of additional maturation. (Two sprays of this stuff is MORE than adequate, and the current formulation of Dior, insanely potent as it is, doesn't seem quite as concentrated.) I find that the night-blooming cereus note--a scent I know very well because my husband's mother gave us an enormous 50-year-old one that blooms prolifically every summer--pops more for me in this one, but I can't tell if it's the power of suggestion (because I have seen and compared the note pyramids for both this and the 2014 formulation, where night-blooming cereus or Queen of the Night is no longer listed), or if it's just so beautifully melded with the Bourbon vanilla and the other florals (rose, mimosa, neither of which is mentioned in the obviously incomplete pyramid for the 2014 Demachy reformulation) that it's not leaping out at me as much as I expected. All in all, I'm not 100% confident that I will be able to pass a blind sniff test tomorrow, but I'll update this review whether I pass or fail. I'm also going to administer the blind test to my friend, just to see how our perceptions vary, if at all. Into the drydown, I pick up more of the aromatics, more of the balsams. It's getting very deep and boozy, this bourbon vanilla, and I can see why it reads as masculine to some noses (not to mine). It's just very dark and splendid, with a piquant, almost pungent, citrussy white floral top note: that Queen of the Night, the night-blooming cereus, whose perfume has a tartness that borders on acrid sometimes, a coloratura soprano's siren song for luring in all the night pollinators. I think doing a blind sniff test of 2002 vs. my new bottle of the 2014 reformulation (since reformulated again, I'm sure) will be difficult unless I wait for the drydown, and I don't know if the differences will be apparent on paper and not skin. But I'm going to cherish and hoard this original stuff like the precious elixir that it is! Update: My sniff-test plans fell through, so I decided to conduct my own experiment, with Dior OG Addict on the left inner elbow and current (2014 ostensibly, but a new bottle nine years later, so who can say) Dior Addict on the right inner elbow. I asked my long-suffering, not particularly perfume-oriented husband to smell the insides of each of my elbows, and he indulged me. He found them quite different, even before the drydown--he noticed right away that the OG is sharper and more aromatic, with a more pronounced dark booziness to the vanilla, and it's not as sweet and floral-girly as the one that's out now, and much more popular than the OG was everywhere except, oddly, Russia. (Or so I have read.) I think I'm smelling the night-blooming cereus more prominently, which accounts for the almost acrid citrussy notes hovering over the florals. The real night-blooming cereus blossom has that slight acridity, too, hovering between intoxicating and pungent, especially when fully opened Of course, I don't know if my version smells like it smelled in 2002--it's likely become more concentrated, well-preserved as it is. The atomizer is much cooler and more complex than the other version, but it also makes it more difficult to decant (not that I'm going to be sharing the precious and very finite store that I possess). The new bottle is elegant enough, the same bewitching shade of indigo glass, but it is not as interesting and arty as the first one, which is notoriously tetchy and looks like it could break at any moment because it's so Rube Goldbergy, but which is also delightful and, yes, addictive to use. On the new version, the one under Demachy's imprimatur, the little button on the top is merely decorative; it is infinitely more fun to turn the little knob and activate the sprayer on the old version, but maybe people want more predictability and less whimsy in their drug-promoting fragrance receptacles. For me, the new Dior Addict is recognizably Addict, but it's somewhat insipid when you compare it to the original version, and even then it's not a fair comparison. It's possible that the current formulation will deepen appreciably in 21 years. I might not be around to find out, and I don't have a time machine, so I could never compare apples to apples or oranges to oranges or Wasser to Demachy after all. I do enjoy this side-by-side comparison, and I like the overall effect of wearing two formulations of the same perfume at once. I just hope my growing love of the OG Addict doesn't ruin the 2014 formulation for me now that I see that the differences are perceptible throughout the wearing, not just at the end. The new Addict juice is also more or less clear, or a pale color, whereas the OG one is a deep reddish amber--in fact, it's so dark that it might stain any fabric that wasn't black. tl;dr summary: I love both Addicts, but I love the OG more. The new formulation is probably more wearable and more overtly feminine, but the old one has that piquant night-blooming cereus note and an aromatic sharpness that make it that much more special and unusual to me. I think I will reserve my OG Addict for significant occasions and wear the newer formulation (the most current one) when I want to smell wonderful in a less memorable but also less polarizing kind of way.

My girlfriend and I came across an older almost full tester bottle of this in a perfume store not too long ago. I had smelled Dior Addict in stores before and it had never really impressed me much. However, upon smelling this version my eye instantly rolled back into my head and I got goosepimples; my gf felt the same way, and we instantly bought it. This is one of the most beautiful female fragrances I have ever smelt, and I've smelt quite a few, not limiting myself to men's fragrances by any means. I cannot possibly write objectively about it because I am genuinely "addicted", but I'll try. This is opulent, purple, velvety, regal, witchy, sensual, mystical...When I smell it lights go off in my head and I feel like a Looney Toons character with heart comically beating out of my chest and tongue unrolling across the floor like a red carpet as I scream "AWOOOGA". This is Queen of the Night, Salomé, femme fatale, Ars Goetia, fey magic. My gf has a whimsygoth style with injections of dark academia - lots of blue velvet, star patterns, beaten up Docs, vintage wool sweaters, corduroy, jewel tones, heavy eyeliner, dark hair - and this matches her perfectly, not to mention smelling intoxicating on her skin. In the opening the mandarin leaf/petitgrain is quite noticeable, as is the berry tone and a slight talcum powdery fluffiness. In the air at this stage it smells like a foresty berry vanilla. But as you get closer and as the fragrance dries down, it begins to unfurl like night-blooming jasmine - layers of supple white florals, laved in voluptuous starlight, entwining like white limbs, secreting a glowing core of pink core and a rich base of vanilla and tonka and sandalwood. This is a perfume that never quite reveals all of itself to you - it shifts and changes, and each time you go into sniff you notice something new and delightful, a different play of light and shadow on this incessantly unfolding carnal flower in the ultramarine gloom of the night garden. It truly is addicting. It's also insanely strong. When my gf applies this the entire house fills with it. The trail she leaves behind her is heavenly, narcotic, delicious - it draws you in like a siren luring her prey. And smelled up close, on her neck, on her skin...There is no other perfume in her collection so sensual and inviting, yet so complex. This does not smell old lady to me at all, though it is incredibly sophisticated and definitely requires a certain bearing to pull off. It is as far from the synthetic plastic candy scents that you find in most stores nowadays as the far side of the moon. This is fine perfumery at its best - fabulous, innovative, high quality, mystical, practically niche - from the era when Dior was producing some of the greatest scents like the original Dior Homme, Bois d'Argent, Eau Noire, Pure Poison, Hypnotic Poison, Dune, and more; when Dior was a trendsetter, not simply reacting to trends. If you can find an older formulation of Addict, jump on it with ferocity and don't let go. This is an absolute treasure.

I’ve had this version for a few weeks now. I found an OG 20 ml spray bottle for a really fair price and decided to see what it was about. I think the top notes and heart have completely vanished. I do wish I could smell those as when I sprayed this one originally, it smelled like not what I was expecting. I was reminded of the top and heart notes of a vintage bottle of Obsession that I have. Then it dried down to the vanilla, sandalwood, and tonka base. It seemed to stay around and project for several hours, I eventually took a shower but it was going strong before. I could smell traces of it after the shower, before I dried off and moisturized. I sprayed it today and I swear it immediately went to the base. I did one spray on my wrist and I was immediately met with a strong waft of vanilla. This is really strong and powerful. It does have some spice to it, even though there’s not a lot listed in the notes to give it that. Maybe it’s just a perception of spice. And there is a sense of floral notes to me, but they seemed to have completely melded into the composition as a way to balance it. I don’t smell any of them in particular. After it really dries down, the sandalwood comes through a little bit more with the vanilla and tonka and there’s a powderiness to it. It kinda reminds me of an almond sugar body scrub, and vanilla/shortbread cookies. Buuuuut it is not a gourmand, it doesn’t go there. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s really nice! I haven’t seen a bottle of the recent formulation on any shelves so I don’t know what it’s like. Considering how strong this is, and how many other loved bottles I have, I think this one will last me quite some time. 🥀 Update 07/13 - Ok so I know that this isn’t meant to be worn in the summer heat. HOWEVER, my skin seems to just eat up fragrances so sometimes I do actually wear my fall/winter perfumes in the summer. Sometimes the heat makes them not only bloom, but stick around on my oily skin. Anyways, I’ve worn this a few times since it has gotten hot and it is absolutely so divine. Now I know why it’s so loved, and can only imagine the disappointment to many by the reformulation that I am hesitant to eventually try. My 20 ml bottle should last me a while as I really only need a few sprays of this, it has aged beautifully since it’s production (I can’t remember if mine is from 2002 or 2003 from when I looked up its batch code number). But I can’t help but yearn for a larger bottle. I would like to have this ALWAYS. I guess you could say that I have now become addicted to it. I smack my hand away from it as I can’t bare it not being in my reach any longer.

I was wearing the 2014 Dior Addict reformulation--the current version--last night and earlier today, and I just now decided to refresh with a precious spritz of my immaculately preserved 2002 bottle, which is highly concentrated but so much richer and boozier and more aromatic than the newer version that it barely smells like the same fragrance at first. The two formulations grow more similar a few hours into the drydown, but overall, at least to my nose, the 2002 version is sexier, creamier, more floral--the night-blooming cereus really sings!--and somewhat spicier. The cinnamon notes are deeper; the vanilla is darker and boozier; the jasmine is a little darker and skankier. Gender is a social construct, and everyone can wear whatever they want, but I consider the 2002 a scintilla more butch. When I wear the reformulation, my husband invokes the Pillsbury Doughboy and bakery aromas; when I wear the 2002 version, he thinks of it as a totally different perfume, which I guess, in a way, it is. I love them both, and I would never say that the current version is a travesty, but something tells me that the new stuff won't smell nearly this great 20 years down the line. (It doesn't have the Mysore sandalwood, for one--a sad reality that makes me treasure this 2002 version all the more and feel grateful to the wonderful decanter who sold it to me, Sarah of the Etsy store SarahsPerfume. I doubt she has another vintage bottle of Addict to sell, but I highly recommend checking out her decant shop, which is first rate, and you never know what might turn up. She knows her stuff for sure. Update on October 15, 2024: Wearing a spritiz of my precious, blood-dark Addict on my left inner elbow and Dua Her Addiction on the right. They're not identical, but I'd say the Dua iteration is much, much closer to my remaining stash of OG Addict than my 2014 reformulation is--and that's not bad, just fluffier and altogether more benign. I like the darker version, although I don't think it smells much like night-blooming cereus. I have one, and its fragrance can be so piercing, so acrid and pungent, that I don't think I'd want to smell one when there are flowers like jasmine in this world. It's beautiful, but its fragrance is best enjoyed at its source en plein air.

This is divine! It's an extremely seductive and addictive white floral vanilla. I managed to get an unopened original 2002 formula 50ml bottle from eBay for a really good price. I think the top notes may have gone off slightly as the opening smells slightly "off". The bottom of the bottle is engraved and the little twist knob on the top of the bottle is the actual sprayer which depresses itself, and you twist it to lock/unlock the sprayer. I have a bottle of Verset Charm and this is an incredible copy of the original formulation, I highly recommend trying if you'd like to smell what the original formulation was like. I haven't smelled any newer formulations and I don't think that I want to, as Dior have absolutely no loyalty to their formulations. Thierry Wasser makes some of my most favourite perfumes so I am unsurprised that I love this as much as I do! I can't really pick up the individual notes, however I think I get the jasmine and the orange blossom. It reminds me a little bit of the orange blossom notes in the original formulation of Armani Code for Women EDP. I mostly just get the most seductive tonka, boozy vanilla and sandalwood base. It's extremely creamy, smooth, sweet and addictive. It lasts an extremely long time, 10+ hours and great sillage. I usually get compliments when I wear this and it's very nice in cold weather and at night. I feel expensive and luxurious when I wear this! It's very cosy and creamy. Interestingly, my other half tells me I smell like pledge when I wear this, and he does for several other of Theirry Wasser's creations (several Mon Guerlains and not TW's, but Shalimar too) so I find it interesting that he can tell these share something in common with each other! I personally don't think I smell like pledge, I think it's lovely!

*Hey folks! I’ve been begging/harassing DUA to make a dupe of this, the original, version of Addict for SEVERAL months. Well last night I saw that they released it, and I bought two bottles! I will report back once I receive and have ample time to test it. But I’m really excited as I only have a tiny bit left of my 2002 bottle, and I feared not being able to wear this absolutely wonderful scent anymore. And I know some others on here might be excited by this too, so I wanted to let everyone know! I will say, since I bought my bottles at like 2:00 am, they are almost if not already sold out of it. Update 07/05 - Ok I was going to wait until tomorrow tonight after a full wearing to really relay how I felt. But, oh wow. I received it at around 3:30 pm this afternoon and it’s now 10:06 pm on hot summers night. I sprayed 3 sprays of Her Addiction (lol) on the back of my hand and dabbed it on to my wrist of my other arm. Within no time, I smelled Addict. It was amazing! Sometimes DUA fragrances need to sit and mature for a bit before you get the correct scent. This is Addict from the get go! I would know that OG scent anywhere and DUA did it! Funny thing, I tried washing it off in the sink and thought I succeeded. I even tested another inspiration from that order that does need to sit and come together for a while. Anyways, I even took a shower. And sprayed a light musk body mist. I am sitting on my couch and I am still getting whiffs of Her Addiction! I highly recommend it! You might have a different experience with it but I am very happy with it! 🥰 Edit - The dupe does actually need to sit for a bit. It smells like Addict! But there is a little depth and richness that isn’t fully there yet.

2024 Addict user here. Ok hear me out. Im in love again with this perfume. I know, I know, reformulation, they butchered our sweet child, how dare them... I understand. As a person who also knows what Addict was before the reformulation I understand 100 percent what people are talking about. If you are searching for the Addict you knew a decade or so ago you wont be able to find the one you are searching for, BUT let’s be honest, are we also the same people when we were a decade ago? No. So with this mentality I am quite enjoying Addict back again. I used the OG formula when I was quite young. This perfume was one or two sizes bigger for me at that time yet shamelessly and fearlessly I enjoyed and wore it. Giving no heck about weather, season or time of the day. There are probably some victims I left in my pass which I tortured with wearing OG Addict at summer time (sorry). Anyway, after a decade later I was in perfume limbo, not liking any perfume I have at home, not liking any new perfume on the market, so I decided to go nostalgic and bought a small bottle of Addict. It was like meeting with an old friend years and years later. It was still the Addict I knew but definitely changed and I liked it. More citrusy/ green with a tad bit of less vanilla but it was what I was searching for at the end for me. Oh, the confidence boost with sprinkles of nostalgia, plus knowing that I am an adult now, finally Addict and I align beautifully. It stays on my skin all day, losing projection slowly in time. Addict is one of the perfumes that I own which compliments my skin chemistry impeccably. So glad that I gave the reformulation a chance and so glad that we met back again with my old new/ friend.

2002, what a time to be alive. I personally love the 80s, but the early 2000s was such an awesome era for perfume. So many groundbreaking releases and innovative formulas. Which leads me to Dior Addict (Vintage). I didn't discover Dior Addict until 2010, as my fragrance journey did not begin until 2007. It was such an extraordinary, captivating and distinct fragrance. A prodigious work of art. Three absolutes housed in one bottle was unheard of at the time, especially for an EDP. The Addict you'll find available over the counter today is surely an EDP, but this version is easily an extrait by today's and yesterday's standards. This was also an era where brands weren't shy about using raw materials and going above and beyond when delivering quality. Here we are 23 years later and I am still reminded of nothing else when I smell Dior Addict. I have never smelled an oriental-vanilla so magnificent. It's the kind of scent that stains the memory and the clothes. Aside from containing three absolutes, one of the underscores about this fragrance is that it contained the very rare Queen of The Night. A unicorn of a flower that blooms only one night out of the year and wilts before dawn. In full bloom, it smells strongly of vanilla with hints of jasmine. The tonka is just so dark, sweet and resinous and seamlessly blends with the bourbon vanilla. There are a handful of "women's" releases that I found to be very gender neutral in this category. This is one that always stands out next to Angel, Shalimar, Must de Cartier Parfum and Givenchy Organza Indécence.

Gorgeous. I sprayed this on my skin back in around 2003 or 2004 in a chemist and I could still smell it days later on the wrist part of my top I'd had on that day. A floral but spicy and powdery one. One of my all time favourite perfumes. Very grown up but not outdated, of that's even a thing. Not a teeny bopper first perfume kinda scent. If you only like things like Britney Spears Fantasy or any super sweet perfume then you'll probably not like it. It's appropriate for any situation, work, or dressed up for a date or going out clubbing. I find it very sexy. I don't currently have it to smell now to describe but it's slightly powdery, slightly spicy, slightly sweet, slightly floral, and very strong. I feel like Dior got the blend of everything just perfect. I can see what people mean by cinnamon and there is definitely a nice vanilla smell but it's balanced by the white florsls so it stops short of being gourmand. The jasmine reminds me of the Jasmine in Alien but overall they're very different scents. It has a sort of "fizzy" texture to me, as if it's some sort of pop but a very expensive one with flowers added in the mix. It was a long time in between smelling this version and owning the newer formulation so I couldn't really tell a massive difference but I'm sure if I was able to smell the og side by side I would. I don't pick up any blackberry in the current one so I'm gonna look now to see if that's been taken out. I do remember a hint of orange. The first time I smelled Armani Code it reminded me of Addict a bit.

I have been a been a perfume lover like my father...so when I got my saving, I bought this in the Duty Free (Qatar) through my friend to get a staff discount. That time (2010) the price for 100ml was almost 500 QAR. It was really very expensive, out of my budget, but it was worth it because I got 20% off, otherwise the price would be much higher than that. Anyways, I am not a vanilla scent lover but this one I really like. It's not sweet but sensual, alluring and somewhat mysterious, dark & sexy. It was around November when I bought it, so I used it during winter, it was good. I had lots of compliments. It was long lasting, I sprayed 3-4 times and it last 6-8 hrs, and the bottle was finished on 2017. I decided to make this as my signature scent during cold season. My husband even loved this perfume on me, so when I finished it, he bought me a 50ml but to my surprise, the smell is not the same, there's something missing and it was not as strong as it was. It just last for 3hrs max for 3-4 sprays and then it becomes skin scent. The price also is almost the same of the price for 100ml that I bought 7years ago but the quality is not the same. It's like your paying for the brand name only, not the quality, so sad that they have to reformulate it. After this, maybe I am planning to try other perfume to change my signature scent for winter. I haven't tried this in the Philippines, maybe during my vacation, I will bring this.

I have over half a bottle of the 2002 version. It was sitting there as I only wore it to night outs and special ocasions. However, as I have so many full bottle fragrances and many new ones, I've been using parfum for after shower pre bed time, so as to use it all up before the end of the world. So it came to pass that it was this beauty's turn. I was now used to overspraying the New fragrances as they are all so weak nowadays, and totally forgot this one was a beast. I sprayed 6 times.... yeah, don't do that. I can taste all the flowers in my mouth.... I used to spray only twice when going out. This is never meant to be worn in your jammies either! What was I thinking. The best, intoxicating and alluring fragrance I ever had, the only time the little story they tell about the fragrance in the add makes any sense, stuff like "she likes to be free and independent bla bla bla". This fragrance takes you to rock the night, own your space and seduce whoever you want. Its this powerfull. They don't make parfume like this anymore. And its still perfect after 20 years. The comment down there, of Mel, is the perfect definition. This was for the whole night, til the sun came up, full of energy, so young, the last generation of truly free and authentic youth, when millenials came of age and danced the last dance, before the world turned to shit.

I used to love this perfume back when i was in my 20’s. I still have a half bottle left of the original around here somewhere. I recently purchased another bottle of Addict, forgetting about the big 2020 reformulations and omg I was so disappointed. It’s been terribly butchered and now it’s just a ghost of its former self and it doesn’t last longer than a half hour. Dior always pulls this shit. This is why Dior is my least favorite perfume house. Dior perfume quality has gone way down. I remember what they did to J’Adore. They horribly ruined it, it’s now the worst POS I’ve ever smelt. I realize most of the big perfume houses panicked in 2020 during Covid coz most ppl were only buying necessities, so they all severely reformulated their perfumes (aka weakened them all) but when things got back to normal they should have gotten rid of the reformulated crap at 80% off and get the quality back up. Coz nobody wants to pay top dollar for garbage perfume. I told ppl DON’T buy any perfume in 2020. I know what’s going on. Most ppl don’t. I assumed the bottle I bought was pre 2020. I was wrong. Smh. I guess I’ll save it as a room freshener and guest room sheets freshener. It’s really not good for anything else.... Smh

Addict pure parfum, limited run in 30ml bottles that was soon discontinued after launch. 2002 batch. I’ve already left a review for the original version of Addict. The extrait goes even further into that neon party night that the edp is (was). Beneath the glistening baby oiled skin, sunglasses at night and Marlboro lights, the extrait is the after party. Once the club lights go out, once the glow sticks fade and all that’s left is the glitter in your hair, there’s the after club. The beach club. You’re tipsy but not drunk. You’re not high yet. But the mood is right and Tiësto is banging it with Traffic. The air is warm with a cool breeze. You feel alive. And you’re ready to keep partying till the sun rises. Addict encompassed a mood and era that went by and now feels distant. It was the early Millennium in a bottle. Deeper, oilier, more intense and ecstatic, the extrait walks the extra mile. It’s where the fun continues. It’s pure ecstasy, figuratively and literally. I don’t think you need both, as vintage Addict in edp feels complete. But some days you just need that little bit of extra, that need for the night to never end. And that, that is the parfum!

I am a man who has no qualms in applying a cheeky blast, of this luscious fragrance, from my woman's bottle. Yes, you can infer that I am rather partial to this glorious scent. When worn by a woman it induces a significant state of arousal in me. In short: Dior's Addict is an extremely potent aphrodisiac. For me, Dior's Addict has two dominant notes: sandalwood and Queen of the Night flowers. All the other ingredients combine to create a very subtle background atmosphere. Unlike the majority of reviews here I can only detect the barest hint of vanilla and only a vague 'sweetness'. I believe many are mistaken into thinking the Queen of the Night flowers are vanilla and 'sweetness'. As someone who has owned the actual plants that Queen of the Night flowers come from (Selenicereus Grandiflorus) I can confirm that Dior's Addict does indeed contain this unmistakable, and uniquely beautiful, scent in abundance. The longevity of this fragrance is such that it will last for days if you don't wash. In poetic terms, Dior's addict is a blood-red opium haze floating in a deep-purple night sky. Any woman wearing this has got my undivided attention.

2002 Vintage Amber-Floral by Thierry Wasser and Christian Dussoulier. This version was a bit like coffee-cake or bread-pudding cake with hint of cinnamon spice from the Bourbon vanilla (to be clear, coffee-cake doesn't have coffee in it, but rather it's a specific cake that was popular to eat while drinking coffee). Soooo likeable and enjoyable, but either sexy or homey depending on your associations to coffee-cake, which the polarized reviews attest to. I gifted this to my sister back in the day, but I did regret giving it away and thought of it sometimes. I enjoy the new version just as much although it's not identical, as the citrus-florals are a bit more forward and there is only an illusion of woodiness rather than actual woods, but the delectable gourmand notes remain. The Dior DNA is definitely present, and an oversimplified description would be a layer of Dune Dior on top of a layer of Hypnotic Poison. In the late, late drydown, Dolce Vita Dior also has a similar DNA. Bottom line is, an original beauty, and it's a love for me. 10/10. Enjoy!

This was a blind buy way back in 2005. As a 20 year old wearing Givenchy Hot Couture, BS Fantasy and Lolita Lempicka, it did not suit me. At. All. Addict was owning my ass and wearing me like a sad little teenybopper meat suit. But it was the most money I'd ever paid for a fragrance, it was fancy, and I hoped to one day be the confident, sexy, has-her-shit-together woman who could wear this. I put it back in its box and packed it away. Fast forward to 2020, I was Marie Kondo-ing my collection and rediscovered this. It is incredible. Warm, deep, smoky vanilla and creamy jasmine, with a hint of orange blossom, sweet Tonka, and something rich. This is grown up and sexy and full bodied and clean and inviting, and lasts all day and night. I would wear it forever but can't find a replacement, so I now have half a bottle to last every special occasion for the rest of my life. If it matters, this is a huge compliment getter from both men and women. Strangers have tried to sniff me when I'm not looking.

The Blackberry, the orange blossom, the rose, the vanilla! This is what my nose senses! I am at my second bottle now, since September 2016; I had it before, back in spring 2008, when my not yet husband gave it to me as a present. I used to wear it all the time, I was obsessed with it. And back then, one of my coworkers told me one day that she could sense me I was coming, before the elevator would stop on the floor - that's how powerful it was! So maybe not for closed office space I would say. Nowadays I only take it out in the middle of September and wear it on the 1st Wiesn day and only when I feel like it because I don't want it to finish. I'm afraid that it got reformulated again. So yeagh: for me this is the definition of pure lust, literally can't get enough of it - no wonder they decided on the name "Addict". I enjoy how it goes perfectly with my personality, lasts for days on my skin (even longer on hair and clothes) and I strongly agree that the price ratio performance is outstanding!

So, when is Dior going to remake this? I hate the current formulation. I’ve had the new bottle for awhile, and just bought a vintage bottle. The memories from the smell. My 20’s, college grad, living in NY, 2002. By boyfriend bought me a bottle. It’s like I forgot about some of the associated memories completely until I smelled this,and I wasn’t even into perfume then. Such an intense emotional reaction from the same perfume, different year. I find the new formulation to be cloying and synthetically powdery. I am a powder queen, let’s not get it twisted, but it’s just not giving what I need. Please bring this back!!! The vintage versions are superior but the top notes are gone due to age/tjme. It’s not ideal, but I prefer to continue buying vintage over the new formulation - it’s that different. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to make a new perfume with a similar smell. I understand the IFRA restrictions but it just seems odd that they’d be so different.

I had a sudden craving for it after lying wide awake at 3am in the cold. I was thinking about the movie Nosferatu (2025) and this suddenly came to mind. I hadn't touched it in years. The vintage 2002 bottle with the screw top. It's juice turned a dark colour and the scent very strong yet comforting. 1 spray only. Too much and I imagine this turning into a monster in the heat and sun. Just like a vampire it would die. Old, powdery in a dusty way, yet sweet and comforting, in some strange old way. I have no idea what notes I'm smelling but that's the best way I could describe it now. Something sweet and alluring like a vampire, yet be cautious of it. A gothic type of vanilla. As we head into autumn I'll definitely be wearing a secret spritz under my black long sleeved shirts. Some orange or perhaps cinnamon notes dance around in this strange concoction. I'm glad I never sold it. Back from a long ago nostalgic time when perfumes were still good and lasted forever.

I was having a trying day, one of those days when everything around me seems about to unravel or implode, so I decided to spray on the big guns. I spritzed on some of my original formulation of Dior Addict EDP, which I keep in the refrigerator. I always forget how deep and strange this vanilla is, like what you might find if you were some exotic night-moth, trawling the pods after a good tumble in a night-blooming cereus blossom. Addict isn't as spicy as Kenzo L'Elephant, but it has a simillar chai-like aspect. I bought this bottle from a trusted source, and I can tell that it was well preserved. It's dark enough to stain skin and fabric now--which is to be expected from a good vanilla-dominant fragrance--and every time I compare it to the current formulation I wonder if the newer juice will smell this good in 20 years. I doubt it, though. The new stuff isn't awful, but it lacks the Mysore sandalwood and (probably) the night-blooming cereus note.

When I smell rose + amber combo, there is a big chance that I will fall in love with it (or get ADDICTed). I remember when this came out. The day I tried it in a perfume store in Europe. I loved the scent, so sprayed it on and left. Later that day ( after kind of forgetting about it), I was waiting for a tram in a freezing cold weather. It was snowing heavily, so I buried my nose in the scarf that I was wearing around my neck and there it was. An unmistakable warm and spicy scent that is also calming to me. Beautifully blended (on my skin, I don't get that much orange for some reason and the vanilla accord is not as sweet and over the top as in other fragrances ). Every time I smell it, I remember that day like it was yesterday. They changed it a bit, but even after the reformulation, this is a beautiful fragrance. Great longevity and sillage. Will always have it near. Can definitely be unisex. Ok let me spray it on again...

Petition to get the original formula back! It's a crime to the perfume world to change this stunning formula from 2002. I'v never smelt anything even close to Dior Addict 2002. It's such a unique scent that nothing compares to it. It's gorgeous, sultry, sexy, warm, spicy, feminine, elegant, grown, sophisticated, bold, statement scent. One of the best perfumes ever created. They removed the Oakmoss from the original formulation (because according to EU regulations, it causes allergy to 4% of perfume users), which used to give that earthy, spicy, forever-lasting scent... I have now sourced 2012 formula 100ml bottle, and it's my most precious possession. The 2012 formula is almost as good as 2002. I've been wearing this perfume since it's been released. I can't get over that it's been so brutalised by and simplified.... Dior, bring this perfume back to it's original glory :(

I have the original version of Dior Addict, and I bear bad news to whoever never smelled it : it's the best perfume ever created, and now it's gone forever. I can't even try to describe it. This is my favorite perfume ever and it's an olfactive travel to our innermost senses, our most precious and oriental dreams, our deep subconscious. Everything about it begins with deeply impacting top notes, like a severe blow to your face, and then you get into a mysterious and wild garden of flowers as the heart notes come out... This is perfection in a bottle, and another masterpiece by Thierry Wasser. Too bad Dior, the brand who disrespects their customers the most, has once again reformulated a BEAUTIFUL perfume , by another perfumer, and destroyed its beautiful, magical, unique, unbeatable essence. The original Dior Addict is life changing. The best perfume ever created.

I’m going to steer clear of the whole “it’s not what it used to be” conversation because honestly, we’ve all heard it a thousand times. Is Dior Addict different? Sure. Is she still that bitch? Absolutely. Every single time I wear it, someone inevitably says, “Are you wearing Dior Addict?! I used to LOVE that perfume!” and I secretly adore that. There’s something special about a fragrance that’s so recognisable it instantly sparks a memory. These days I get a surprisingly sharp cinnamon blast in the opening that I never noticed in the older versions, and if I’m honest, it’s not my favourite part. But after an hour it settles, the cinnamon steps aside, and that unmistakable Addict DNA comes strolling back in like it owns the place. She’s still glamorous. Still sexy. Still unmistakably Dior Addict. A classic for a reason.UN

I managed to pick up a partial older bottle! The batch code comes back as 2020 but I think it’s actually 2010 since numbers repeat every ten years. I have the one where the knob on top is the actual sprayer. It maybe has one ounce left but I needed to get my nose on this! It is absolutely beautiful! I haven’t smelled the newer versions so I can’t speak to that, but this is cozy and very sexy!! My vanilla has very much darkened my juice so be careful on light colored clothing. It’s not your typical vanilla scent. The blackberry and rose come through but heads right into that vanilla and sandalwood gorgeousness!! Love this. I have the edt and it doesn’t resemble this much. That’s more floral and feminine, this is femme fatale! If you can hunt down an older bottle, I’d say it’s worth it!

This is a treasured piece of my collection. My oh my I just pick up the bottle off my shelf just to sniff it. I scored a full, untouched 100ml demonstration bottle for £70! From Vinted! I could not believe it. Dark amber liquid in dark blue glass. Dense, bold, oozy yet powdery?... comforting, cozy, but sophisticated and grown. Way ahead of its time when released in 2002. There’s a slight aromatic nuance that lends the composition a slight expansiveness, working with the blackcurrant and florals beautifully and balancing the vanilla absolute and tonka. The mysore sandalwood in here is to die for. There isn’t much to say about Addict that hasn’t already been said. Smooth, vanillic, almost chocolatey powdery but dense, thick and syrupy. Eyes rolling back gorgeousness. Cherish my bottle.

Lasting power is a 10/10, it smells unique and exotic, it gives off that hard to get/heartbreaker energy that the girls are really going to dig. Everybody will be able to smell it in the air from a mile away so the Sillage is also a 10/10. Everything about this perfume is perfect but unfortunately it only works in cold weather, so you can only use it in the wintertime. If I lived in a country where the weather is always cold then this would be the only fragrance I ever wear. This might be a hot take but I think this perfume is unisex rather than a female only fragrance. If you are a really masculine dude with a viking beard and stuff I definitely don't recommend it, but if you go for that twink-ish pretty boy look then it's a go-to scent.

2002/2012 version, if you were into Dr. Pepper lipsmackers & cola gummies as a kid, you will LOVE this as an adult. The nostalgia really wraps you in a comfy cloak of safety. The vanilla amber base seemlessly ages that vibe to something mature and sexy. The result is true sexy confidence. You aren't trying, you truly are. (Chemistry permitting ). A sexy bulletproof elder madame & fun loving girly in one. 2012 is close, but its deep creamy/crisp where this is deep creamy/umami. Great for fall & winter Update: You can buy it for around the same price as the current formula. Thanks to the bottles, it's way less risky. bought 10ml, & felt so "right" I got another 130mL. The scent is incredibly distinctive & too polarizing to be worth scamming

I have been longing for a vintage bottle of this so I can enjoy the night-blooming cereus note; I have a 50-year-old plant that is a prolific bloomer, and I am very familiar with their heady aroma. Unfortunately, the new formulation seems to have excised that note. I just ordered (from a very trusted source) a half-full 1.7-ounce bottle of the original vintage, and I simply can't wait to do a right-elbow/left-elbow comparison of the two formulations. If I do end up loving the vintage Dior Addict so much more than the newer formulation, I'll just save those sprays for special occasions and wear the newer one when I don't need the full experience. Will update soon, after my precious vintage bottle arrives.

Hello fragrance fam! The vintage formulation of Dior Addict EDP, is the darkest and most complex of the trio (the 2012 and 2014 editions). It's well known for it's heavy, smoky Bourbon vanilla. The base is thick with sandalwood and tonka bean, giving it a spicy, resinous, almost boozy quality amidst a sweet blackberry note. No cinnamon ppl in this one non at all I’m sure that’s the new one this one’s based around moss deep moss like no other and sandalwood they don’t list it here but if you look up the original notes it has double dose of moss close to vintage lolita L the very first 1997 Can smell wafts of vanilla when on the move but very subdued this is strictly moss the same moss that made vintage hypnotic poison so deep and powerful that’s why it was discontinued I relate this to the time when daredevil was released and I was going crazy listening to evanescence my immortal what a Classic just the best times everrrr........ I was totally rocking this delicious mysterious master piece

I think I like older fragrances better in women's perfumes. I really like women's fragrances from the 90s and early 2000s. The white flower notes used in Addict are wonderfully interpreted with vanilla. The powdery atmosphere of the tonka bean gives the perfume a very mature style. I don't know if it's because my mother used it for a while, but I really like this perfume. Maybe it's because it's my mother's perfume, so it seems like a mature fragrance to me. You can choose this perfume, which is a little less popular, instead of the sweet designer fragrances that are similar to each other today. Dior's quality is always evident.

this is a very deep, low, down, heavy, sexy, and rich scent. i love it. ive been wearing this in cold weather and it really is perfect. ive had my bottle for years in a drawer and it still smells great. when i wear it, it has to be when ive showered, when it’s cold, and when i want to be very strong and bold. i do smell it on me for a long time. it’s not flashy or loud or a notice me perfume. but it is potent and sexy. i only do one or two sprays mid body because it can be too much for me. i dont wear it daily. it’s a weapon i bring out when needed. it’s great. never want to be without it.

I had to take a knee... Addict was my signature many years ago and I was IN. LOVE. On a whim I just ordered a big bottle for the cold seasons. How could I have forgotten!? HOW!?... The first whiff was a rolling wave of a smooth vanilla, Tonka dream on a powdery pillow, then came the memories. I’m so glad this was a good time in my life, so I can thoroughly enjoy one of my first designer fragrance obsessions. Tresor Nuit la Folie, Libre Intense, Amouage Material, Perfect Intense, Addict and L’interdint Rouge have me on lock for the cold weather seasons.

Dior Addict is such an interesting fragrance. The more I smell it, the more I notice different sides to it. At first, it smells like mandarin and orange blossom wrapped in rich vanilla, sweet yet slightly bitter. Then it turns into warm amber and honey, and sometimes it even smells gourmand, reminding me of basbousa or other oriental desserts with roasted nuts and honey. It really depends on your nose and which notes stand out to you. Addict smells different to everyone, and not many perfumes can do that. Truly a masterpiece.

Used to be my signature for a long time. Hypnotic, sweet, dark, addictive (the name says it all in this case). Head-turner, majestic, extremely sensual. Of course, they just had to ruin it...The new version is not bad but it's nothing like the original, neither the scent nor the performance. 3-4 sprays and it would linger on my clothes and even on my pillow for 2 days. Many people disliked this perfume because it was too overpowering and sweet, but I think it was one of the best and most iconic ones, a real classic.

I don’t know why, but I get Guerlain Shalimar vibe from this—though not the opening as this one has tart berry notes while Shalimar has sharp citrus notes. But both over time transform similarly with smoky vanilla. I find Addict to be easier to wear than Shalimar. Addict is timeless classy, complex, unique. Smells luxe, opulent, rich. Very well formulated. The lipstick-like bottle is interesting. I do like this better than the 2014 formulation. 3 hours later: I am really liking this. Alluring vanilla.

I sprayed this on a paper strip 3 days ago at Sephora. It was an immediate like but as the time has gone on I've become more fixated and obsessed with it. The opening is nice but the drydown is some intense sort of comfort. Like coming home. To a place I used to belong but no longer do. It is to yearn. To love. A place of pain that I miss so badly. I know this sounds dramatic and stupid for a perfume but it is what it is. Naturally, I can't afford it, even on Fragnet. Thanks Dior, thanks for nothing.

molten lava explosion of spiky vanilla jasmine. midway through makes me think of taffy. sweet chewy fruity jasmine taffy with a dash of balsam. like guerlainade on steroids with beast mode longevity. one of THE BEST designer fragrances of all time. chewy, trashy, Wasserade. love it so much. addict is abstract. it’s synthetic and you don’t smell anything naturally occurring or realistic. it’s a human made thing. it exists in its own scent realm. addict is gorgeous. please protect addict.

This fragrance will live in my heart forever. My high school best friend used to wear Addict at the tender age of 16; entirely too young for it but rocked the hell out of it! She looked older than 16 and was bossy to match, so it actually fit her well. We knew it was some sort of magic elixir, but had we known it’d be forever reformulated, I would have urged her to buy plenty of backups. Ugh!! To this day I cannot smell Dior Addict and not think of her.

This isn’t really a review just more informative and an observation. My review is much further down. (2002 formulation) I got asked if I’d been burning incense after I sprayed this on. Must be the mysore sandalwood. The more I thought about that comment while sniffing my clothes, I totally got it. There’s a smokiness from the sandalwood and depth of vanilla, it’s not a saccharine vanilla, it’s rich, deep, smooth and woody.

Loving my 2002 juice in hot humid tropical climate of Jakarta, Indonesia. I am always melt down everytime I sprayed this one in the first 15 minutes. As a guy who loves this fragrance, I always think it smells unisex, more masculine and better than most niche fragrances nowadays. Love love love. Bought it 5 years ago in an old perfume store here for 50usd, 100ml still full and sealed. Only wore it for special occasion.

Sophisticated classy and elegant. After having a small sample for months I decided to try this one last night. 10 hours later and it's still lingering. Great vanilla and jasmine fragrance that is more meant to be worn dressed up than dressed down. A lot of the reviews say that this is masculine and I can see it being unisex. Guys that love Dior Feve should give this one a try.

Love it, love it, love it. Shui-Xian gives a good description. Only I will be an addict ;). Love at first sight....well, smell. Update, I gave it to someone else. There was something in it that disturbed me more and more. A kind of thick heavy scent that sticks in my nose. It is a wonderful perfume and a lovely scent but on my skin it is not the perfect match.

Recently got my hands on a miniature produced nearly 20 years ago. When I first opened the bottle, it smelt sharp and strong, but since letting it breathe and now applied on skin on a cold rainy day, it is the creamiest, cosiest vanilla and sandalwood combo. I do think it could choke someone out when applied in excess though, so be careful with this!

I've been told I smell like sweet cigars while wearing this to the office, and I kinda get it. It's really pretty with a light hand, but over do it and you're gonna make enemies. It is mostly sweet vanilla/cinnamon/orange blossom to my nose, and I wear it when dressed up for the most part, it isn't a casual fragrance to me. It's too intense.

The ultimate love potion. Unparalleled seduction. Dark, smoky bourbon vanilla with heady night blooming jasmines drenched in powdery tonka beans and sprinkled with a tad of cinnamon. None other version smells like her but Amouage Guidance is the closest thing to the queen. I dearly keep a very old bottle for a very special occasion.
