Dioressence Eau Parfumee

In this blue version there were all the flowers, froots, aldehydes mentioned in the pyramide, in a magic symphony. Latest version is only moss, roots, and animalistic notes. Just unrecognisable. I have the green bottle, but can't wear it. Rose'n roses is the closest thing to the blue Dioressence, but not the same, just the half of it.

Dioressence was my signature during the 90s but since the new millennium it has changed out of all recognition and I cannot bear to wear the new, sanitised, version. Vintage versions haven't worked for me as I always preferred the smell of Dioressence at its freshest. This 1969 version was an impulse buy at a very reasonable price. I bought it from curiosity with little expectation. Boy did I hit lucky. The juice was so fresh it was astonishing. Maybe because of the opaque container or maybe just because. There is some resemblance to the later 1979 version that I so adored. But the drydown I loved so much in the 90s is absent. (As it is in the modern version). Also this 1969 creation bears more than a passing resemblance to the original Miss Dior before its reformulation after reformulation after reformulation..... I know the story that it was simply a version of Miss Dior with a massive slug of ambergris. And that's exactly how it smells. A classic transformed by marine freshness. So much so that sniffing the nozzle takes you straight to the seaside. (If you leave it for a while, we're talking rock pools here.) It is dated. How could it not be? They don't make them like this anymore. They couldn't afford to and certainly wouldn't be allowed to in today's dictatorial NannyWorld. For all that, it's surprisingly wearable. If I'm feeling brave (This is ME, mate! Get over it.) I wear it unadulterated. If I'm not, I overspray with 'O' de Lancome (recently mauled to death by Lancome, sigh) but I guess layering with any simple citrus scent would make it more approachable. Nothing will ever replace my 90s Dioressence signature drydown--unless fragrantica knows otherwise? But this is a real treat and little piece of history. I'm so glad I bought it.
