Gris Dior, previously known as Gris Montaigne, opens with a moderate projection of sweet, roses, mossy, powdery, and green notes. The opening is fresh, elegant, calm, mild, floral, and very pleasant. The moss, roses, and patchouli are the featured notes, they create a unique blend that comes across as very refined, projecting, high-quality, and luxurious. The roses are noticeable but evocative of white roses as opposed to red roses, it is a calmed rose accord, floral, aromatic without being harsh or too intense; the oakmoss adds a forest, woody accord, very refined; and the patchouli adds a very fresh green note, elegant, modern, and pleasant. It takes a brief moment but the amber will soon join the fragrance with a sweet resinous and powdery touch improving the projection of the fragrance. The cedar and sandalwood are support notes, a woody and sweet light creamy touch in the background. The fragrance has a subtle but noticeable opening to dry down transition, during the opening the notes are very crisp; as time passes, the amber soothes the notes with its powdery projection-boosting, and sweet accord, the projection remains the same. Once Gris Dior has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, mildly sweet, rose, patchouli, mossy, and resinous powdery fragrance with woody accords. You know, only 20 years ago, before Fragrantica, before the global network we were never even thought which ingredients the perfume is consisted of ... 🙂 It was just “wow”, “nice”, “meh” .. Today it’s a big fun to read sometimes : “best oakmoss-patchouli fragrance”, “best earthy rose” etc. C’mon guys, some of us have never even seen neither oakmoss nor patchouli 😃 Before it was like : “this woman smells heavenly” or “this is a perfume of my dreams”, “the most sensual fragrance ever”....it was all about emotions and feelings we had, sniffing the magic potion 🧪 What I want to say is - I don’t want to describe the notes here 😌 This is a PERFECT PERFUME for me 🙏🏻 It is feminine, soft, gentle, powdery, slightly sweet and very sensual ... very very sensual ❤️ Please don’t get me wrong, thanks God we have our Fragrantica, which I personally love 💕 But really, we lost that feeling of which EMOTIONS, which pictures we drow in our minds while describing the fragrance.... we stuck in notes , ingredients, formulas... It is like when we see Chanel or Dior dress 👗 and, instead of admiring the color, the design and the mood it gives us, we are telling our friends the details about the fabric, way it has been sued, seams, buttons, lining, mold... Gris Dior is a classic in every sense. I think that it's a sign of excellent perfumery when relatively common notes are blended and transformed into a completely novel and unique smell, which I get from this fragrance. This doesn't smell like one particular thing in real life, but to me, it evokes the image of a rainy autumn afternoon. This is the fragrance for a thoughtful, slightly introverted, but elegant individual, someone confident enough in their own image that they don't feel the need to force an impression on others. Notes of oakmoss and patchouli are not typically something I enjoy - in other perfumes they come across as muddy and stale, a bit like forgotten wet laundry. However, Gris Dior enhances these notes with an amazing soapy water accord which gives it a dull kind of cleanliness, rather than the more familiar bright cleanliness of musks and citruses. The rose note rests on the surface of the scent to provide the appeal factor, but the vast majority of the depth of this fragrance is found in its chypre base, which is so very well-crafted. Although this is a work of art in my eyes, I think Gris Dior may not suitable for everyone, as its uncanny ability to create that slightly dreary and 'grey' atmosphere requires a certain mood or personality to enjoy. Performance is more than acceptable, this won't be filling any rooms, but you will certainly have a noticeable, pleasant scent trail that won't upset anyone. Price-wise it's difficult to justify buying any fragrance from private lines, but for those who can imagine Gris Dior becoming their signature scent, then I think this could be worth reaching into the pockets for. This is one of my absolute favourite modern Dior fragrances. I tried it years ago, as Gris Montaigne, but it didn't take. Then, in early 2023, I tried it on a particularly humid day and went outdoors. It began to rain. Suddenly this fragrance, which I initially thought was a bit weak, began to radiate from my arms to my nose with surprising strength. I posted on Instagram about discovering my love for it and my friend gave me a miniature of it the next time we met up. I've been nursing it for the past two years. First off, you really do not need to apply much because a little goes a long way. Second, you might want to wear it in muggy weather, or warmer weather. It could go well in all conditions, but I think it does especially well when the air is damp and the temperature is on the warm side. Third, this is definitely similar to Bottega Veneta and Bottega Veneta Eau Legere. The pros and cons says this isn't sweet, but I disagree. It's not exactly sweet in a candy/sugary way, but instead a floral one. Roses can smell quite sweet under the sun, and this captures that perfectly. Some roses can smell like those pink musks you can buy, and this smells somewhat similar to that. Seriously, though, as I said above, a little goes a long way. Those who know how tiny the miniature's applicators are will know what I mean. I dab a little on my finger tip and then dab that on my wrist and that will last the whole day. The smallest amount. I've only used about 0.25mL in the past two years. There's a chance it'll outlive me!

Gris Dior is nothing short of mesmerizing. I spritzed it weeks ago on a sweater, and til today it still lingers like a soft, fragrant memory, as captivating as the first time. It features this elegant, almost chocolatey warmth, the whisper of a gourmand presumably stemming from its sandalwood note. This cacao pod is wrapped in the delicate embrace of a majestic rose, creating a rich yet nuanced sweetness both comforting and alluring. The subtle mossy base too is deep and addictive, grounding the fragrance with an almost unreal earthiness that lingers on the skin beautifully. While faint, the patchouli is indeed there, allowing the chypre heart of the fragrance to shine through without overwhelming the senses. It’s melancholic in the most hauntingly enthralling way, a fragrance that evokes longing without being overly overt. (cross posted from parfumo) Joseph Quinn is one of the new faces of Gris Dior and he was quoted saying "I've never smelled anything quite like it before." To me that's just marketing speak, he can't say he hates it, but he probably doesn't know the right terms to describe the fragrance properly. As a fan of his I was curious to try the scent myself. I found a 2ml sample on eBay for a few £ and I bought it. I went in with low expectations. After wearing the scent for an afternoon I've found I agree with Joseph; I've never smelled any fragrance that does what Gris does before. Opening with a citrus top that's light and airy and fresh, like a spring sky, the fragrance dries down into an earthy moss - the patchouli and oakmoss. Just when you think it couldn't possibly develop any further it blooms into a gorgeous sparkling rose. Gris really is an olfactory journey, taking the wearer through the growth cycle of the rose from the crisp air to the rain damp earth to the fragrant bloom. It's something entirely magical.

The first time I smelt it, I went ‘wow’. I immediately knew I had to have this. It smells very unisex, perhaps a tad bit feminine, but it doesn’t matter. Gris Dior is an incredibly well blended perfume and none of the notes particularly stand out in this fragrance. The scent quality is top shelf, and very abstract. The two words I can describe it are ‘soft’ and ‘fluffy’. It can be fantastic signature scent and can be pulled off in any occasion. Makes one think of a bunch of roses wrapped in a cashmere scarf. For some reason, I find that the scent smells very nostalgic. My experience is with a bottle with the batch number 7Z01, and the performance is fantastic, and lasts all day, with a moderate scent bubble, which is perfect for a scent like this. Equipped with the fantastic Dior atomizer, one can manage the sprays one applies. This is in my top 10 fragrances of all time, and I would always like to have a bottle.

I’ve heard so much about this. Honestly, I didn’t read the notes, and I was thinking it would be something beast mode or with loud projection. I was so taken aback to discover how airy and clean it smelled. The oakmoss, bergamot and rose are the most salient for me, but they’re so beautifully blended with the rest of the notes. It’s not overly feminine-leaning, and it’s not distinctively masculine. It just smells like a freshly showered individual in a forest. It also has a little petrichor or rainy day vibe, but it’s an all-season wear. I imagine this having peak performance in the spring and winter. Ugh. I love this one and want a bottle right away. I’d say it’s coworker-friendly, and has a nice sillage that’s not obnoxious or offensive. I feel SO comfortable and confident and want to be wearing this every day. I only have a sample, so far, but that will need to change asap.

This is one of those fragrances that, due to its complex structure and the many, multifaceted evocations it evokes, is very difficult to explain in words. It's a cypre; what emerges is a woody rose on an amber background refreshed by a touch of bergamot. But to say this is an understatement, because what my nose detects is something very particular, certainly not comparable to what you usually find in perfumeries. It's an elegant, refined fragrance, at times shadowy but at the same time luminous and enveloping, extremely sensual. Extremely high performance, excellent projection without being invasive, and one of the best longevity of any perfume I own. The price is high, but the sizes are very large. If you're interested in purchasing a smaller size (40ml), you can do so on the Dior website, so you can get it without breaking the bank.

Gris Dior is a masterpiece I simply can't live without. I constantly find myself opening my wardrobe just to smell the cap. It’s a complete obsession. From the very first spray, its clarity is stunning. But what truly fascinates me is how it breathes on the skin. It quietly fades into a whisper just to make room for the next note, handing over the stage with incredible grace and tenderness. Then, once the new phase settles, it surges back with immense power, as vivid as if you’ve just applied it. It feels alive, constantly drawing your nose back to your wrist. A true compliment magnet that pulls people in effortlessly. With its effortless 12-hour longevity and magnetic trail, this is quiet luxury at its absolute peak: captivating, refined, and completely irresistible.

I remember smelling this over the summer at my local perfume store and being very shocked at how good it smelled. I remember smelling the perfume strip all the way home and it leaving a beautiful aroma in my bedroom. It’s been a while since smelling it but I remember it smelling cold, but in a very good way. It smelt floral and sweet, but not candy/gourmand sweet, a sweetness you get from floral perfumes. It was also my first time smelling something so mossy, it blended very well with the heaviness of the rose. In my opinion, I genuinely cannot imagine smelling this on a man, this smells incredibly feminine to my nose, heck, this smells like something my mom and aunt would wear. I absolutely love this, I plan on buying it sooner or later ! Final Rating 8.5/10

Gris Dior has instantly somersaulted into my top 5. As a female who loves unisex woody citrus with some depth, this couldn’t be more perfect! It smells a modern wearable twist playing on classic vintage perfumery. This gives me the same relaxing vibes as Gris Charnel - they’re not the same aromatically but the personalities are similar. It’s more like the shower freshness of Orpheon sprinkled on top of the amber and depth of Hermes Eau des Merveilles. The earthy characters also hint at leather and give a beautiful mysterious quality. I adore the balance and interplay of styles here. Don’t be afraid if you’re not into rose or patchouli, they’re both blended at levels where they add to but don’t dominate the composition!

A very nice fragrance. I smelled this fragrance once in Korea, and bought it straight away. If I had to explain what this smells like, it reminds me of cosmetic store. Obviously, there's more to that in this fragrance. At the start, I smell strong oak moss and rose with woody background. I smell absolutely no bergamot. As it dries down, it's mossy, woody, and powdery. It's a very classy, unisex, elegant, and light fragrance. So versatile, can be used daily, date night, and special occasions. This reminds me of a man with white shirt who is very sensitive and cozy. Or a man with a grey trench coat on a rainy day. Not the safest blind buy, but definitely worth the space in the collection. 8/10

I don’t know about you but I love this. It’s Noir De Noir for the Day when said day is overcast, nippy, or when you’re planning to spend it in doors in the COLD. it’s waxy and brighter than NDN but the moss-patchouli-rose is analogous to the TF’s truffle-rose-patchouli. Again, I can’t get over the waxy aspect to it, it’s such a balmy sort of dryness that’s different from other attempts to provide a drying impact with most woody fragrances. It’s a grey but pastel grey. I don’t find it depressing unless you’re only ever used to neon, punchy sweet fragrances. This isn’t a Lucky or a Rouge Trafalgar, it’s not for everyone but for those that this is meant for, my gosh, it’s delightful!

Stunning perfume. I rarely get this feeling towards a scent. It happens once every 5 years or so. The last time I felt the way was 2020 when I tried BR540 by Francis kurdkdjan for the first time. Before it was 2011, Narciso Rodriguez for him the grey bottle, also formulated by Francis again. And here we're now. I'm in love with this scent. It's a little bit tilted towards feminine side but men can pull it as well. But.. Boy..ohhh Boy .. Does it smell great. It's class, beauty, grace and luxury all in one. I have a tester and already have complements. You can't deny it's an expensive and good quality perfume even if some how you don't like it. It's nice. Well done! Mr Demachy!!

I love many perfumes — some because they feel the most “me,” others because they’re the most unique, playful, pure, or mysterious... In that lineup, Gris Dior is the one that is simply Perfect. Perfectly balanced: unisex. It feels clean and, in the best sense of the word, simple — yet it's still complex. It’s not overpowering, yet it’s one of the longest-lasting scents I’ve ever worn. I’m sure I’ve never smelled it on anyone else, yet it feels familiar and comforting. It works just as well for special occasions as it does for a regular day at the office. I love wearing it most on gloomy autumn days, paired with deep, earthy tones.

Dior Gris is the epitome of class. This is a dry scent. No sweetness at all. It smells expensive, and it's so original. I haven't really smelled anything similar to this. I think this is perfectly unisex but leans a bit more feminine. Agree with the reviewer that said this smells like expensive soap. (However, this is not soapy!) When I smell this all I can picture is a cozy, lazy rainy day and you're cuddled in soft fluffy sheets with a cup of coffee. Yet, at the same time, I can totally see myself wearing this to an interview, or for when I want to feel like I have my shit together and I'm a boss woman. It evokes that in me.

Some fragrances have the power to put you into a waking dreamstate. Gris is such a fragrance. I first experienced Gris at a Dior boutique in the Middle East and had to go home to fall into a beautiful sleep. I’m surprised that others have described the rose note as slight, as to my nose the rose/violets note is front and centre. It is grey. The most elegant, aloof grey. A monochrome dream scene. It’s an urban, daytime, spring fragrance and will last on your skin all day. It’s not versatile and requires a certain lifestyle, otherwise it won’t make sense. It is also overpriced - I bought my bottle on emotional response alone.

A depth that feels reminiscent of Dune but softer, less ambery. Not bright, but light, not L’Eau D’Hiver light, but a spirited kind of light, lived light. Fresh yet grounded. Wood and rose. Elegant. A cozy earthiness, feminine. Understated. It has a kind of translucency to it that allows it to work well across any season. As it develops, it gains a kind of soapiness, skin still damp from the shower. Still, this is the kind of clean scent that I appreciate; there’s a base of sophistication and life experience, history. A perfect execution, Gris does exactly what it set out to do. An obvious classic.

This is stunning! Not usually something I'd gravitate towards, but I had the opportunity to sample this today. It's weirdly melancholic in a sense? It smells balmy and smooth and very elegant, it doesn't have any sharpness from the cedar. The projection isn't huge, but it's not so weak that it'd be a problem. This is probably the best take on patchouli I've tried too, normally I get B.O. vibes straight away from patchouli but this is again, very smooth and elegant. I don't know if it's something I would get a bottle of myself, but I do like it and could appreciate this on somebody else.

Gris Dior. A true masterpiece of a whole different standard. I’m a big fan of most of François Demachy’s creations, but this reaches new levels to me. I will (undoubtedly) be purchasing this for my future wife, over and over. No perfume has ever smelled as pure and earthy to me, but yet in the most elegant and refined way I could possibly imagine. It’s hard to explain why I’m such a fan of this perfume, but it just makes sense to me on every possible level. I do believe I would enjoy it more on women than I do on my own skin, but it’s timeless and beyond elegant either way. 10/10.

Gris Dior is quite possibly the perfect fragrance for all seasons and all reasons. It is a lifetime fragrance for me. I will wear this until the day I die. Bury me in this fragrance, please. It is so perfectly blended, and the oakmoss note tames the rose without taking away its beauty. It's good for all occasions and perfectly unisex. It's amazing throughout the entire evolution. I love the drydown. It's a powerhouse if oversprayed and makes a bold statement. Spray less, and it stays in your own scent bubble. This is in my top five fragrances of all time.

I first encountered Gris Dior while on vacation and couldn’t stop thinking about it for two years before finally pulling the trigger. In my opinion, this fragrance is the epitome of French perfumery done right. It opens with a bright burst of bergamot, followed by a heart of Turkish rose and jasmine that feels soft and delicate. The base notes of patchouli and oakmoss add depth, giving it a timeless and effortlessly elegant feel. There’s also an earthy quality that makes it feel very unisex and modern. My fiancé and I both love and share this one.

Bottega Veneta Edp crispier sister. This is less creamy than Bottega’s but still very sophisticated. Smells clean and simple, but not “spa” clean. Smells like something new, just out of the box, clean and minimalist. This is my to go scent for travelling and everyday. Remarkable but on your lane. I have been wearing it for a while and it is money well spent. Lasts all day. My office room smells like it on the next day when I arrive in the morning, it also stays in my chair. The bottle is alao very good to carry in your purse.

The fragrance is perfectly named, something about this fragrance smells 'gris/grey', it has the vibe of a mossy forest walk after the rain, that smell that's just so earthy and fresh. This is a very comforting fragrance, it lasts a long time and it is a room filler! This perfume transports me to another place. I personally find this fragrance to inoffensive, fresh and sophisticated, perfect grey suit and tie fragrance, that's a promise. A perfect chypre, masterfully executed by Demachy. The man is a legend.

This is definitely a sophisticated nose fragrance. It's not your typical Sephora fare. This is quality, luxury, dripping in wealth. So so so gorgeous. It's a bit powdery, lightly sweet, and reminds me of an English rose garden after rain drinking Earl Grey eating scones with clotted cream and jam. "Gris" means gray. It's very fitting to brighten things up on a gloomy day and works beautifully in humidity. All around inoffensive and beautiful. A stunner from the Privee line.

Unlike any another scent that I've ever tried. Fascinating. Opening is plasticky and smoked, kinda reminds me of gas. There is a strong patchouli all along. While opening is more masculine, strong and bright; sets more feminine, sweet and floral on my skin. Not sweet like candies but like a distant lovely rose garden. Definitely worth try. I really wanted this to be my signature scent; however, the price tag is ridiculously high. This will be my platonic love.

I need to sit on this a little but first impression is wow. A dark rose that's not jammy. You have to like oakmoss, though, so be warned. I like oakmoss, and my only complaint so far is that it's very present in the opening but fades in the drydown. I wish it were more prominent. I don't get old person from this. Rose can go that direction but I think it's pretty ageless. It will depend on how you pull it off. I might try layering this with hacivat.

Lovely, elegant pick. I agree with the commenter who said it smells like lavender grey cashmere, that's a spot-on description. I'd say lavender grey cashmere and wearing silver toned jewelry, there's no warmth in this scent but that's ok. It's rich, cool tones. Similar to Bottega Veneta but more full-throttled. My hubby says it smells like Vetiver. Have not needed to buy this because Dior beauty frequently has 10ml mini freebies with purchases.

My daughter loves this and she would pass by Dior at the mall to spray every single time. The scent trail she would leave is amazing. Gives astonishing 8hr longevity on her and when we're together, her scent would dominate the room. We bought it for her as a gift and she was so happy. Definitely gives a clean, cool girl vibe. We live in the Abu Dhabi and I find it safe to wear on both cold or hot weather.

This is a beautiful scent. The opening is medicinal patch, and then smooths out to a beautiful almost creamy woody wonder. This is “mossy” done right because it’s not overdone, but instead a beautiful blend. It’s a chypre for sure. Glad to see chypre’s coming back now and then too. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I’d suggest sampling and see how it behaves on your skin. I must have this!

This is a masterpiece chypre, and I've only ever used that word once before on here. This is gorgeous. It's beautiful classic french perfumery, but it stands out as unique. Not sure about all of the complaints of longevity, I sprayed a couple of sprays on my woollen jumper over two weeks ago and I'm still getting whiffs of it. Haven't given it a thorough wear to comment on sillage or projection.

Really fresh and earthy without being a total patchouli bomb or allowing the woody notes to overpower any other ones. It's a less sweet, less citrusy version of Chanel Paris Paris EDT. Powdery elements in these kinds of perfumes usually stick out like a sore thumb after they settle on my skin and warm up- but no play-dough detected! All of the notes are detectable, but blend beautifully.

What a gorgeous perfume, a bit melancholic, profoundly elegant, introverted, modern chypre. Someone below has mentioned, that Gris is beautifully depressing, I couldn ́t agree more (it is like you are reading a book about some romantic tragedy and it is sad but absolutely wonderful at the same moment). Only one con - it’s not a beast (you need to reapply during a day several times).

my 'signature' i guess, absolutely gorgeous in a way that i can't fully capture. fresh but with so much depth and complexity. i like feminine scents tempered with some woodiness/earthiness and this is perfect for a fem leaning perfume with enough body and an array of notes to add some mystery/variety/uniqueness, it's just feminine enough for me without being one-note or shallow.

Got a mini bottle of this one and New Look. Gris is phenomenal, the rose note is really powerful, I love this fragrance smell. I do not love the price. Also, for me this is more inclined as a woman fragrance but I still use it since my mood goes up when I smell this beautiful rose on my skin. Silage 6/10 Longevity: 4 hours on clothes, 8+ on skin If you can afford it, buy it.

This is honestly one of the best perfumes I’ve ever smelled, it’s the best perfume for summer, its unisex but I prefer it more on guys. this was my ex’s(male) summer perfume, its a really good perfume, it stays on clothes and skin for days. I smell the woody and earthy the most, there isnt any perfume like this. your missing out if you’ve never smelled this.

I love the scent it’s really nice for men and women, I don’t know what it is but I’m in love with men that use this perfume. My ex used to use this perfume and every time I went home I’d smell this on my clothes, i recommend this for summer. it’s a great perfume but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone close to me since it has left me trauma I give it 10/10

I'm not a man who wears rose, but there's something in this that smells so amazing, yet makes me feel like an old woman (no offence to you guys reading this) It's a great fragrance that I'd recommend to older audiences, however I can see younger people wear this, beware, it is very feminine to the point where one could argue this is a woman's perfume.

I can wear this forever. It is very well made. Everything blends beautifully. This is my daily scent this winter though it can be worn on other seasons. It is not loud but it does last. It is woody and earthy without being depressing. I got this in Paris and this was what I chose over very feminine fragrances. It unisex. Understated sophistication.

Gris Dior is incredibly clean and sheer, almost silk-like. It also leaves a beautiful sillage in the air. If I had a magic garden this is exactly what I would want it to smell like; floral and woody after a fresh rain. The patchouli is executed so well here, think damp- but fresh out of the shower damp. 10/10 - a rain cloud over a rose garden.

This is one of the most sophisticated fragrances I ever had the chance to smell, so elegant, classy, luxurious, and definitely not for your average Joe. This is a fragrance for the people who stand out and got their life together. The rose & bergamot combination here is stunning. Longevity it's really good, it lasts 8h on my skin. 10/10

A frozen crystal rose that blooms in a darkest mossy forest. Just a single flower suspended permanently between the woods. Over the time the rose fades away, and you get a pure oak moss with patchouli. A stunning breathing fragrance, suitable for all day round, for any occasion. Not a safe blind buy tho:)

A dry rose with a very clean mossy base. Like the kind of rose you'd find hung to dry on the stone wall of a cottage. Only slight hints of sweetness keeps it fairly fresh and decidedly unisex. Surprisingly versatile, grounded with classy, yet subtle, woody notes. Smells like the colour grey in a bottle.

this smells like pink lemonade lucozade 😆, its funny cause i was drinking that months ago and wondered if there was a fragrance like it, well here you go, pink fizziness. havent been able to get away from the typical rose fragrances so this is a pleasant surprise

Beautiful oakmoss!! It smells exactly like the colour lavender gray or gray cashmere sweater if this makes sense. Sophisticated yet casual, the rose and bergamot just makes it suitable for pretty much any occasion, very rainy day ish. New everyday scent for me.

Revisiting this and it is sooo good. I’ve tested it intensely in the past and although I love it and find it very wearable and signature level, I don’t think it really suits me. One of the best from Dior, pure perfection and elegance. Demachy, you are missed.
