J'Adore L'Or (2017)

I tested this in a store around Christmastime and fell in love. I should have bought it then and there but the price tag stopped me at the time. Besides spending a boatload of cash on Christmas gifts for my huge family, and property taxes on the horizon, I also needed time to weigh whether I really needed another luxury perfume that I would only wear on special occasions. I figured I could live without it for a while, but it was always in the back of my mind, almost to the point of obsession. A few weeks ago I went on the hunt to get it, only to find it wasn't available anywhere, (even the store I originally tried it was out) except one store, at double the price I saw it at the original store (which was expensive enough in the first place). I finally wound up purchasing directly from the Dior site which turned out to be cheaper than both stores in the end. I just realized, thanks to this site, that I have the reformulated 2017 version and not the 2010 version I tried in the store. While I think this is beautiful too, I'm a little disappointed that it wasn't what I originally tested. That had a sweeter, more nectar type profile with a prominent rose, and a powdery dry down. This is more ylang and jasmine heavy. While it also has tonka, the sweetness has been dialed back. This might work better in warmer weather than the 2010 version, so I don't consider this a total loss. I'm sure I'll appreciate it more then than I do now. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Edit - I've come to love this and appreciate it for the scent it is now. It's rich, almost bordering on gourmand, thanks to the vanilla and tonka. Unlike J'Adore edp, there's no fruit in this formula, yet the ylang is coming across slightly fruity to me. Someone here described the ylang as smelling of bananas, and while I'm not sure if that's the exact fruit I smell, it definitely is a creamy fruitiness. So I guess someone could easily make the leap to a creamy banana. Whatever the case, I now think this is luscious. So glad I didn't let my initial disappointment get in the way of appreciating this scent for what it is now.

Tried this today on skin while at a Macy’s. This is very unique in the opening. I wouldn’t say powdery but it is very creamy and balanced for a white floral in the opening. However, three hours later it smells extremely similar to Joy Intense on my skin. I have a feeling the jasmine and rose combination is responsible for this. In summary, it isn’t worth the price as it isn’t better in performance than Joy Intense, and I don’t appreciate the amount the fragrance morphed. What made it stand out is the first hour, it is worthy of the experience of trying it out but not for the bottle. Edit: Eating my words, I tried side by side with Joy Intense two more times in store and yes there is similarity but this is much better quality and richer due to amber notes. Overall vibe of this is sexier. It is the J’Adore version of Joy Intense and of all Joy or J’Adore this is my favorite. Found a new bottle for a good deal and I’m happy to have this in my collection :) Second edit: I normally dislike ylang ylang and while this has a slightly tropical vibe I don’t think it has ylang ylang in it, I think the tuberose just has a warm sunny character. In absolutely zero current website descriptions do I see it mentioned and when I compare to other J’Adores I immediately smell ylang ylang in those. Edit 2/6/22: I’ve just purchased Chanel Bois des Iles EDP and it somewhat reminds me of this... going to keep both at the present time but I think this one might be the one of the two I let go. I agree with the review above me that this is the most “Chanel” like of any Dior I’ve tried, and I do wonder if this has an undisclosed sandalwood base. BdI definitely has a stronger sandalwood though in dry down.

So clearly I have issues because this was another blind buy. From all the reviews before mine I expected something quite different. L’Or 2017 is a lovely fragrance but not even remotely tropical, vanilla or “yellow florals” (like ylang) on me. For me this resembles a classic lady-like Hermès or Chanel type of fragrance. It’s got lots and lots of sparkling aldehydes (Chanel No 5 type) over a middle of mostly clean soapy jasmine and just a tiny drop of warm vanilla in the base. I’m using the words Aldehydes, Ladylike, Chanel and Classic very intentionally. It’s a TON nicer than the regular J’Adore (which I find so generic I just cannot). I think L’Or is pretty but it’s definitely not me. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. I don’t hate it and objectively I know it’s pretty and classy but I’m just not a country club type of lady. Maybe I’ll wear it to the office and see how that feels. L’Or Essence de Parfum (2017) does has impressive sillage and longevity and the bottle is beautiful. PS: I continue to have massive issues because I've just now blind bought J'Adore Touche de Parfum because it sounded good. I'm sure I'll be back on here to give my thoughts on that one fairly soon. Update 2/19/22 In the end I LIKE L’Or and it’s definitely the absolute best version of J’Adore in existence but you need to love that aldehydic Chanel type quality. It dries down a bit more mellow, yellow, powdery and slightly vanilla/sandalwood (keeps it from being shrieky). Oddly I get a lot of compliments on this when I don’t often receive compliments. This is a perfume for A Lady. Wearing Doc Martins and/or your yoga pants is just not the vibe.

L’or came to my life as a beautiful mistake. I’d been wanting to try J’adore and was looking for a partial on a second hand website when I chanced upon a bottle that was ridiculously cheap. I grabbed it of course. Only when I got my hands on the bottle did I realise that it was L’or. A very good friend of mine had asked me to try sniff it if I ever could because this one’s getting harder to find and I couldn’t believe my luck that I got it. I’m beginning to realise that I really enjoy yellow florals, and while ylang-ylang is a note I used to struggle with (looking at you, Gabrielle Essence) in here it is warm and golden. Maybe it is the vanilla and yellow floral, but it reminds me a little of Dahlia Divin le Nectar even though the warmth in there comes from mimosa. But to me they give off similar vibes. Each time I spray L’or, I feel rich. This really is what I associate luxury with. I am reminded of posh hallways and plush carpets where your footsteps are muted. It says old money, you know? Opulent yet elegant. The kind of luxury that doesn’t have to announce itself. It’s such a warm perfume too. Vanilla might be the top accord, but to me it plays a supportive role. It is the florals that shine here. And because it is an essence, it performs so well. I love basking in the golden cloud of this scent all day long. I have already got myself a back up bottle, BNIB this time, and have set it aside because I know this is a perfume I’ll enjoy thoroughly during special occasions.

Love love, love! It's sensuous, warm, and delicious. Made me feel sexy and bold. From opening to drydown, just absolute perfection. The vanilla isn't stuck in the back of your throat like some synthetic-smelling ones can be. The florals of ylang-ylang, jasmine, and tuberose work beautifully with the vanilla to give that atmosphere of being in a tropical garden with its florals in full bloom. For me, the rose doesn't have quite an impact, and feels like it's a secret waiting to be revealed, leaving hints of its presence along the way. Which I actually like, since I already have J'adore L'Absolu to fill in my need for roses. Longevity and sillage? This is a powerhouse. Definitely worthy of being called J'adore L'Or. I adore this and would absolutely give it a full 10/10 if it weren't for one thing. It gives me a headache. I just about cried when I realised three days into testing it from my sample that J'adore L'Or was the culprit behind my only experience with a fragrance-induced headache. I tried only spraying at my wrists, and that didn't work. Even smelling it on paper would trigger a headache, as happened recently during a visit to the Dior counter. I've yet to find something else quite like it so I'll spring for a bottle as part of my collection, but I'd definitely chance another headache just to get a whiff of this golden beauty.

This is such a lovely scent that I just can't fathom how this one has flown under the radar with perfume lovers. It's a touch more jasmine than ylang to my nose, but beautifully balanced. Vanilla and tonka are there but so seamlessly blended that you can't call it a vanilla floral. It's a big floral supported with vanilla, some slight spice from the tonka and a touch of sultry sweetness from the tuberose. I've hunted for the rose, but I guess it's more in the supportive rose role. The jasmine never goes indolic on me, which I appreciate bc it would reduce the occasions that I'd be comfortable in wearing it. Blended perfection into a whole. Two sprays and your set, those two sprays give great longevity and sillage. I bought it about a year ago and it's settled now, somehow it just became more cohesive. It's not an everyday scent, at least not for me, but it makes my rotation quite a bit. I know I'm waxing poetic but it's an under appreciated beauty, especially if you love white/yellow florals. So many ppl complain that there aren't great florals being released, well here's one that's been under our noses for a while. Sample it! I think this one is discontinued, but I believe you can still purchase on the Dior site.

My mother loved the classic J'adore, it was her signature scent. A perfume well suited for the tropical heat of the Philippines, when I smell J'adore I think her. Now that Im living in London, there are a lot of times that I miss her company.....and recently I was drawn to get my own J'adore. Perhaps, unconsciously wanting to have my mother close even if it was her scent....and so I 'met' L'or. This is a rich and deep Floriental. Two sprays and the fragrance completely envelopes me with memories of home- of talking with mama surrounded by jasmine. The vanilla and tonka holds and balances the jasmine and ylang-ylang, making this perfume exquisite. For me this is very romantic scent and for cold winter nights. Im glad to have this gorgeous gem.....it certainly brings me back home with my beautiful mama. Update: I was about to do laundry and I detected a gorgeous scent in between the pile of clothes. I then noticed a shirt which I wore while using L'or, some of the perfume oil ended up in the neckline and it still smelled divine after being in the washing basket for a week. This perfume is simply amazing!

This is such a lovely perfume with such a long trail and great sillage! It smells like the golden color of the liquid in the bottle and I could imagine the juice having come from the sweet nectar of the flowers it contains therein. I first can smell the jasmine here first and foremost, followed by the ylang ylang. It definitely comes off more yellow floral than white floral to my nose, which I don't hate. I smell a hint of tuberose that gives a tad more sweetness, but I'm not smelling much of it here. After that, I get a smell of vanilla and tonka bean. I can smell the tonka bean more, though. I don't really smell amber like people are saying, but it definitely has a moderately woody base. If it were any woodier, I wouldn't like this perfume. All of the floral notes keep it smelling feminine and not unisex or masculine leaning. I'd love it even more if there was even less wood in it, though. Still a love though and I think it is a beautiful, sexy, vivacious and grown-up women's scent. This is not for the immature girls out there!

Oh Man, what a wonderful golden elixir! Boy does this smell different in the summer than it does in the winter. In the winter it was beautiful, but the heat is really drawing out the floral notes more and now the ylang front and center. So creamy, luscious, and voluptuous. The jasmine and tuberose are no shrinking violets either. Wow! The vanilla is now caramelized and the tonka adding a little sweetness. But that ylang! Such a full-bodied floral with all the sweet creamy banana custard aspects of that wonderful tropical flower. This is also killing it in the silage and longevity department. One spray on my wrist, tapped to my other wrist, enveloped me in a cloud of fragrance all night. I put it on after a shower, then went out with friends, and just got home and it is still going strong – almost 8 hours later! In the winter, this has nowhere near the silage or longevity. Now that I know how great it smells and performs in the summer, I think I'll restrict its use to this time of year. It really is a stunner! Just love it!

If you own this, Do NOT pick this up from the top ! It’s possible that it will come apart ! The twist off top design seems to weaken the Gold part it twists into , this bit is glued in place . mine just broke ! I was sitting on my bed so was lucky But it’s from picking it up from the top , not the glass, Weakened it. It’s genuine too , just a weak design. ( Thanks , hope I save someone a dropped bottle ) As for the fragrance , boy oh boy this is a bit of me, Prob in my top 5 fragrances , pure luxury and blended to Perfection, just sweet enough just powdery enough to Be a perfect fragrance and it’s deffo one of best versions of jadore. Why must Dior forsake me over and over!! They giveth and they taketh away my all time loves in exchange for versions that do not do justice to their predecessors!! This fragrance is so unique and beautiful! It’s reminds me of a banana on a bowl of rich vanilla bean ice cream in addition to a feminine golden amber. It’s rich and thick and potent!! It reminds me of a Hawaiian fragrance I bought that was locally made when on vacation in my 20s. I searched around everywhere to replace it after it was gone, finally after years I found this as this was the closest thing I came across and perhaps more elegant. To me it’s a unique beauty and I’m so sad its replacement doesn’t even try to keep the same spirit. If you can find a bottle it’s beautiful with a long lasting trail!!

I'm super sad that Dior are getting rid of this fragrance and replacing it with what will no doubt be a vastly inferior reformulation by Maison Francis Kurkdijan, whose perfumes I don't really like at all. He doesn't really "get" white and yellow florals and I have no doubt I won't like the new version of this. The new bottle is uglier too, with the gold necklace that is supposed to look like a Masai woman's rings around her neck (which first feautured in the brilliant John Galliano's first collection for Dior back in Fall/Winter's 1997 couture) no longer looking like that and all of the detail being annihalated so as to look generic and non-descript. It probably won't last as well or smell as good either... Dior, why are you MURDERING almost all of your classics?!

It's really hard to work out which listing on Frangrantica belongs to which J'Adore. I don't know why there are so many. I can't only tell by looking at the bottle reiterations. I have a 2020 bottle of J'Adore L'Or. Intoxicating. Liquid gold. Perfect for an anniversary gift. Intense. Sensuous bordering on erotic fragrance. More upfront than the EDP, strong florals, the layers peel back after 2-3 hours revealing jasmine, rose and vanilla. Long lasting. One spray of this is plenty. Although a 40 ml bottle, the thick glass on this bottle makes it stand imposingly amongst my other 50ml J'Adore bottles. Comes in a substantial, heavy rectangular box with the perfume inside in packaging and Dior tissue paper, sticker and a small card.

I am so sad about this 2017 version getting discontinued. I can hardly find any bottle anymore and I really want a couple of bottles for backup. This was my favourite version of the entire line. I don't understand why Dior is doing this. This was the most loveable version , people showed their preference also with their votes. Still Dior wants to get rid off the most highly voted perfume off his house..well good luck Dior because the new version of L'or sucks... One massive typical commercial safe jasmine perfume that looks like a lot with Alien... Nothing different and special anymore.. The depth of the heart note and the velvety creamy sweetness is gone🤷

I finally got around to trying this 2017 version of L’Or. I have and adore the original 2010 version, it’s my special occasion perfume. IMO, they do not smell identical. Similar, but there is a vintage, let’s just call it that, vibe in the original that is dialed down in this. Brighter, especially at the opening, more floral, with an overall softer feel and one notch less projection. Echoes of Dahlia Divin Le Nectar on the drydown more than the original does. It's a tough and probably pointless comparison since you'd have to hunt down the 2010 version anyway. Gold is still gold.

This should win the price for the best (female)fragrance of all time. It has everything a nose needs. Heavenly scent, sexiness, pure seducing factor, feminity overload, long lasting, absolute compliment getter. Plus I paid far more money for some more expensive juices which are just half so good like this. I love it so much that I avoid to wear it too often just because I don't want my nose get used to it. When you smell this, you start dreaming and thinking how beautiful God has made the world.

This fragrance just simply smells expensive. It is unlike any perfume I’ve ever smelled before. It does have the J’adore DNA, but L’Or definitely smells unique from the other variations I have smellled. I spray it directly on my neck, and I catch whiffs throughout the entire day. This version is definitely the most powdery version of J’adore that I have smelled, but that’s what I love about it. That’s what makes it smell so expensive and luxurious. 23 y/o bi guy here

Mademoiselle-c It is a slight reformulation of the 2010 version. The amber, patchouli and labdanum have been replaced with tuberose and ylang-ylang. I tried the 2010 version a couple of years ago and bought the current version recently and if memory serves me right, they are very similar. This new version is lovely; rich, opulent and golden with a classic vibe. Great projection and longevity on me. You can tell it is very well made.

This version takes the vanilla from the OG L'Or and infuses it with sparkling aldehydes, and a dose of sweet jasmine, tuberose, and ylang. It's a much brighter and more heavily floral take on the original version, and it blooms so beautifully in warm weather. Never goes beyond arms' length on my skin, but it sticks all day and doubly so on clothes. Very glad to have purchased when I did years back because its discontinued, a shame.

An expensive, sophisticated and classy scent that doesn't change as it dries, staying reliable and beautiful. The scent is moderately strong and has great longevity - no need to play around with oils to keep it from disappearing in 2 hours. If scents had colours, this would be gold. It's honestly one of these perfumes I'll keep purchasing for the rest of my life or until it's discontinued (god forbid!).

This is lovely, elegant warm, exquisite perfume haute couture. It has nothing, absolutely nothing in common with J'Adore edT or edP. This makes heads turn! Gets a lot of compliments - and for a reason. Such a Beauty. Unique. Never smellt anything near this before. Very well done. In thickness resembles a bit like Esprit d'Oscar, but not the same frag. I have a new love... and it makes me happy!

This is a special one in my collection. Deep and sensuous, & evolving. Not a big fan of the other J'adores, but this one ...oooohh. Splurged on this one & glad I did, I would think this would make a perfect gift for a fragrance lover, not just because of the lovely smell but it is packaged so beautifully. Very nice longevity, a good spritz will do just fine & last all day.

My absolute dream fragrance that, unfortunately, I didn't discover until after it was reformulated. I enjoy the 2023 version of this *very* much but, oh that bottom, buttery vanilla note in the 2017 makes me practically drool. I've managed to hunt down several bottles so my pain of missing this somewhat lessened, but I'll still grab any bottle I come across, used or no.

This is an exquisite fragrance. It is one of my favorites . Whenever I spray it I feel more feminine and confident. I don’t reach for this often as it reserved for special occasions. It blends well on my skin as I can’t make out individual notes . Definitely comes off as a florally gourmand to me. It lasts the entire day. If you’re thinking about getting it, get it.

My nose picks up on a warm vanilla and tonka. Smells high-end to me. The floral is so well blended that I cannot really pick up on any distinguishable type of floral but maybe tuberose? I’m really not into vanilla fragrances but this I would buy again. Super lovely. A keeper.

I love the combination of yellow and white florals in this one and really enjoy wearing it in the evenings. It’s sophisticated and elegant without being too formal. I do also like the new 2023 version but wish they could have kept this too as it’s pretty special.

This is not your regular J'adore. This fragrance makes me want to put on my white power suit, go to the country club and bitch about my husband with a himalayan birkin in hand. It literally smells expensive. I love it.

Stunning, beautiful and very sensual A melange of flowers on a base of sweet vanilla and tonka . This smells elegant and classy but not too vintage. I love it and I’ve been wearing it for three days in a row .

Camden-girl - I just bought this and realized the cap is not twist, but it just pulls off, so if you have been twisting it, you probably broke off the part that makes it stick together.

This is the most beautiful J'adore flanker. Period. My 2 sisters want this the moment the smelt it during our gathering, but it's too hard to find it nowadays. Has it been discontinued?

J'Adore L'Or is very concentrated and just magical. Starts very strong but bright, womanly, bringing attention perfume. Excellent longevity and projection. For cooler time of the year.

This is one of my favorite of my wives perfume, smells so sensual. My favorite of all her Jadores by far. Creamy floral with a good dose of one of the best vanilla notes ever.

Lovely and addictive warm floral. I like this reformulation more as this focuses more on the floral elements. Divine warmth for the floral bouquet from vanilla and tonka.

This is the queen of the sophistication elegance and class.very long lasting powerful perfume floral but honey like ohhhh I love the way it's smells on my skin 10/10

This was a risky blind buy. I could not resist because I loved the bottle. I saw the artistry of Dior's fragrance-making process on their site, and it sealed the deal. I like J'Adore L'Or 2017 so much, maybe love! If one word could describe this, it would be "sophisticated." This is a classy "rich lady" perfume. It has the floral heart of J'Adore but an "oriental" base (floriental!) that makes it appeal to me most of all the flankers. I watched several Youtubers rave about it and agree it is top quality. L'Or 2017 really is such a soft (yet lasting) scent. One Youtuber compared it to White Diamonds but less screechy. Maybe. To me, the initial few minutes/hour or so remind me of champagne and stay "sparkling" without being sharp No nose burning ickiness, just smoothness and full-bodied fragrance without being cloying or overpowering. It has a similar richness to a honey scent, without being actual honey nor syrupy sweet. The florals are smooth and balanced throughout. I detect a subtle sweetness to make the scent pleasant, but not a sugar overdose like my usual fare. As it dries, I get slightly grape-y Tuberose mingled with vanilla-amber, but it is so well-blended it is hard to pick out individual notes. The ultimate drydown remains a well blended floral-vanilla-amber to me. I believe I read how expensive perfumes typically have jasmine. Maybe that is how it smells so opulent? The bottle is gorgeous too. I would rebuy this and wear it whenever I want to feel luxurious in a classic, understated way. <3 Edit: to me, this absolutely outshines the J'adore EDT, EDP, Infinissme, and Absolu. The EDT, EDP, and Infinissime have something heavy/woody I dislike. Absolu is quite pleasant, but L'Or beats it out by a long shot. Thank you Dior for releasing incredible, elegant quality scents!

It's not much different than the original. In fact, if you smell them, you might not be able to tell the difference. Sure, if you concentrate enough, you will tell them apart and find the characteristics of L'or. Upon initial spray it's the same, and when I say same, I mean same, as the Original. After some minutes, it becomes intensely rosey, very very floral, the Original is a perfect balance between sugared champaca+jasmines+orchid with pears and plums, but L'or leans heavily to the floral side without of course losing completely the fruity nuances, otherwise it's not J'adore I guess. Luminous and clean as always, classic, all time appropriate, full bodied scent, that in its afterdrydown gives you sexy tuberosey vibes, green, a bit mentholic, plummy. And the vanilla without being the mainplayer adds an ever so slightly sweet touch. Richer in essences than the Original; at least that's what I smell. Lasts long projects well. If you like the Original, give this a try.

This wears in my favourite way: a single wrist spray + walking through a spray creates a lingering bubble of loveliness. The only other J'Adore I've worn in recent years is the new Absolu, so that's my comparison. The L'Or is lower pitched, thanks to the rounding/smoothing effect of the ylang and vanilla. Sometimes I find the jasmine of Absolu just a little high pitched for my taste, so the L'Or is an improvement imo. :) It's velvety, sweeter than Absolu, but absolutely not cloying. While jasmine dominates Absolu, I get equal ylang and jasmine in L'Or, with very present vanilla supporting and softening. Rose is more present in Absolu, while I don't get any in L'Or, and that's a shame imo. It opens with a really interesting green and humid aspect -- like a sunshower in a late summer garden full of white flowers. I wasn't expecting this but it's gorgeous! (2017 batch)

Just a heads-up: This smells slightly different from the previous version, which is more powdery with a "classic 90's" vibe. Also, I thought its bottle design was improved until closer examination—the "neck" of the older bottle looks more intricate while this one seems to come from a somewhat roughly-made mold. Although it successfully executes something "golden" (where many niche brands failed), it's too tame for me; I was hoping it'd be richer like a spray form of Touche de Parfum or even Extrait..

Originally I hated this . I thought it smelled like one of my grandmothers old perfumes she kept under the sink . I put it away for a month or two then revisited it . I like it more now . It’s sweet and floral and a little powdery . Definitely has tonka bean in it ... I think that’s what made me question this perfume . It might lean a little more mature ... but on a really cold day , this is pretty and I enjoy it .
