Jules

I may weep writing this. I sold all my Jules and I've never made a bigger mistake. I wore it so rarely, I could never find the occasion for something so precious. Then no sooner had I sold my bottles - save for a couple of atomisers I filled - than the first time I wore it in months, the girl of my dreams, stopped dead in her tracks upon greeting me and said, "Wow!!! you smell greeeat!!". Now she tells me... Why? Because despite the nay-sayers and doubters, this is one of the few truly unique scents ever made. Look at all those reviews yet no-one can think of anything it smells like except its modern copy. There's nothing else like it. If only there were. It's so green and dirty and damn sassy... and complex and challenging and questioning. And something more - it's one of only a tiny handful of fragrances that can make the wearer feel truly, truly special. For me 80s or early 90s Kouros has that. For you it may be M7 - we all have one or two. And Jules has that. That incredible other-worldly magic, when you know you're wearing a masterpiece, something nobody else is wearing - but everyone wishes they were. I was feeling poor, feeling I needed to clear the cupboard... like a girlfriend you never get over, I feel I'll miss it forever. (Until I win the lottery anyway... )

Takes me back to the 70’s and 80’s. Well in theory. Strong projection and evolves rather nicely. Though I think it could be dated, but good to have around. I will have to meditate on this one. Glad I found this one. Though, I picture myself wearing this grooving to the disco beat. Noticed a couple posts about wearing for an outdoors scent. I agree, also on those cold days. Definitely would keep you company and protected. It would keep up the stamina and courage on a cold, grey day. Noticed on the dry-down an ashy cigarette 70’s vibe. Might just be the oakmoss mixing with other aromatics. It a nice tobacco ash. Comforting, pleasant and fresh. Been wearing it now...love it! Growing on me. Keeps my alertness, comfort, creativity at an optimum performance. Masterpiece. I feel the oakmoss, basil, florals and woods create a beautiful aura that projects protection and transcendace especially in the colder months. Sometimes I’m all about performance and functionality, especially now in the doldrums of the Winter months when you need that extra lift. Holy basil and moss with everything really shine. Love it! Really amped. Probably the caraway, artemisia, carnation, fir, cedar and distantly rose playing a supporting role.

Last Saturday, I finally got my 100 ml. bottle of vintage Jules after a long wait--it's a tester made in the late 90s (the ribbed bottle), and it has no box. As an owner of two miniatures of Jules made in the 80s, I was very impressed when I sprayed my newer juice on my wrist--it smells stronger, fresher, and much creamier. The animalic notes are also less pungent...and I especially loved the pepper note in this late 90s version! I also noticed that this formula lasts longer on skin, which is due to the fact that it comes in a spray bottle, causing the perfume to be preserved much better (unlike perfumes that come in splash flacons). What can I say? Jules has always been really lovely, appealing, and full of class; it certainly screams 80s. I actually like the 90s formula better than the original blend made during the previous decade. Again, it would be fantastic if Dior parfums decided to distribute this in the Americas so that many more customers had the chance to, at least, try it and realized why classic fragrances like this perfume created by Jean Martel 38 years ago become legends and get chosen by, even, some younger perfume addicts. I'm happy to have old Jules in my collection!

I manage to buy only the one bottle, in ... Andorra. That ́s right, ANDORRA. Never saw it again, not in the States or Europe. They sell online (Dior) This is a absolute winner, 80 ́s class in a bottle, smells like old money, mature, strong, like being in New York during winter, smoking a cigar in one of those exclusive clubs. Great projection and longevity!! Pure and utter class. The 80 ́s... Antaeus, Sung Homme, Salvador Dali Pour Homme, Kouros, Jules, Fahrenheit, Drakkar Noir, Obsession, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Cool Water, Jazz, Eternity, etc, etc, etc (not mention all behind: Aramis, Polo Ralph Lauren, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme...). GODDAMN!!!!!!!! What a rush, those were the days. Today is all dog crap, watered and weak scents, flankers, flankers and more flankers, no powerhouses, no classics for the ages, nothing!! 100 years from now, they will have Kouros, Anteaus, Aramis, Jules or Fahrenheit, not this shit they sell today.

I've not tried the new reformulated Jules (why is it so expensive?) and my memories of the original have faded into obscurity so I got my hands on early 90's mini's of both the aftershave and EDT and I have to say they are SUPERB! I have a real penchant for this era, men's stuff and Jules is treating me to everything I love. Addictive, soapy, green leather and perfectly balanced aromats, a suggestion of powdery carnation, moss and twangy musk opening. These are all things you find elsewhere but with Dior there's a certain shine and sparkle to it. The drydown is smooth, clean and powerful, it's a delight and has it's own feel, separated from the Kouros's, Quorum's, Aramis's and Bijan's of the world by a not trying too hard to be too butch. I LOVE IT! Shame the vintage bottles are so pricey but this might have to be added to the list of wants. Lasts, forever and projects very well indeed without being intrusive.

It's been over three months since I last put some dabs off my 9-ml vintage bottle on my wrist; I did 30 minutes ago, and I can feel a harmonious blend of tobacco, civet, lavender, leather, flowers, cedar, and other wonderful ingredients - it seems there is some kind of liquor hint (or, am I crazy?) on account of a tonka bean and wood combo -. The civet is loudly present during the first 5 hours after application, and the soapy vibe tells you of three decades of a thoroughly crafted fragrance (unlike today's fragrances that are mass-produced synthetic mainstream fragrant liquids), which makes it, doubtlessly, a niche quality product and a unique piece of artwork that was given birth to in 1980. Dior Jules is an ode to sophistication, lavishness, class, and masculinity, which can only be found at utterly steep prices. This is another potion that would be great to see on all shelves worldwide.

Ooh ooh love, love, love, love, love. Grassy and earthy-spicy (the basil, caraway, with some pines hanging around) with a just enough leather to make it exciting. I put it on - and it was Springtime in Dreary-Ass Chicago January. I smelled the soapy note very briefly but it wasn't strong or lasted long. I'm not getting the Kourous/Yatagan vibe at all. I've worn both and dearly love both but this doesn't have the animalic feel to me. Feels "clean" but not that current "clean" scent that's supposed to make me feel like I'm at a chemical version of the ocean. It's clean in a just sitting in the grass with sunshine clean

I have just received the original formulation of Jules in the first edition splash bottle in the post today and 5 hours in only one word comes to mind. Wooooooow! This certainly belongs in the elite class of the 80’s. Rightfully with the Antaeus’, the Kouros’ & the Number Ones’ of that time. If this juice went in a niche Roja Dove bottle today, it would easily sell for same as being charged for the top range ones such as Great Britain. This is not designer level perfumery by any standard. It without a doubt niche. A shame that majority of modern day perfumers do not strive to reach such levels in their works.

I still have one of the small sample bottles, but there are only a few drops left in it and how I wish it was still full!...I love this fragrance. Being a woman who will occasionally use a male fragrance (if I like it) I was given this sample bottle about 15 years ago and was surprised how many women asked me what I was wearing, as they loved the warm, spicy scent - maybe it was just the way if reacted with my skin, but everyone said it reminded them of Christmas - scents of spices and sultry orange, with the fragrance getting more mellow over time. If only Dior would reissue it!

I just received my Jules flacon...WHAT AN AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL FRAGRANCE!!! To me, it is like a classier, softer, and less spicy version of Halston Z-14 mixed with YSL Kouros. There's a great deal of lavender in it, yet it feels soft and pleasant, and the animalic note begins to stand out after some minutes. Unlike what many people say, this fragrance is not so overbearing; could it be that I haven't put on enough in order to unleash the beast? In summary, I DO like it...It was worth the wait! :) Greetinx. UPDATE: This fragrance has really grown on me...I'll get more ASAP!!! ;)

I used to love this scent. From what I remember it is a classic fougere but so much more. I am a lavender junky and the quality of the lavender used with this fragrance was exceptional. Definitely a power house fragrance that you could wear on your inner wrist that would last all day long which is so rare these days. Never over powering but very well blended with allot of individual notes implimented. Would buy this again as long as they don't reformulate the juice, which is what they would probably do unfortunately

My father has kept a bottle, so I had a chance to smell this one (lucky I guess).A great masculine frag. high quality and special character. After the placing on the market of many bad fragrances during the last year, (in my opinion the companies in most cases recycle the the same ideas) Dior will make a clever move if the reintroduction in the market of the frag become worldwide.

I smelled this once in a shop and it made a lasting impression on me. So did Kouros, Eau Sauvage, YSL pour Homme and Paco Rabanne Homme. I never, ever bought Jules. Please Dior bring it back! I love those 1980's classics.

Wearing vintage After shave right now. My god! Unbelievable good, animalic, sweaty, fresh and real, real moss. The AS is really outstanding on its own, the edt is more rude. Two jewels!

Filling the bath with hot water and a few drops from an old Jules bottle is a pleasure I can't explain.

Cool raw badboyish dirty perfecto 80's proto-"outsiders" lady's man lover scent.

Definitely in the realm of vintage Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, perhaps Gianfranco Ferré, partly Iquitos, Quorum, maybe Balenciaga Pour Homme. It’s a barber-style scent that enters into a very mature oriental territory reminiscent of the late dry-down of vintage Kouros. However, it has one limb reaching into some higher notes that might remind one of Lauder. It’s not animalic per se, but rather a kind of permanent incompleteness characteristic of the best in this genre, like Lauder and Kouros. I’m curious about the 2016 version and also need to check Derby and Equipage. In the background, there’s that Bogart-esque green, but not as pronounced as in Gianfranco or Lauder—definitely less than in Caractère, Versace L’Homme, or Capucci. Beyond that, it’s a dark, well-constructed, tightly woven scent—among them all, it doesn’t stand out so much as to mourn its passing forever. One of those. Oh, and this is the man of Paco Rabanne, which says a lot—the scents are similar, though vintage Paco seems to have more dimensions and is richer. ⸻ However, I perceive Jules as horrifically high, an extremely high bar. If Passion is more on the lower end, then you have Gianfranco, which is very good (and indeed, despite classification differences, similar to Lauder). But after that, there’s a gap, and then you encounter Jules. Now it’s unclear—Is Balenciaga really better? It’s more about recognizing the differences between Balenciaga and Jules to appreciate both. Jules, however, surpasses Ferré; it’s also stronger, truly outstanding.

Certain scents get quite a reputation among collectors, especially if they've been discontinued or are difficult to find. Jules is one of those that I've read a dozen or so reviews about, praising its strength, unique character, tenacity, slightly dirty vibe, etc etc etc. Older bottles sell for absurd amounts and even the new bottles have an inflated price, perhaps because it's nearly impossible to find in the US (according to a Dior rep I spoke to at Neiman Marcus in SF, Dior actually recalled their stock and sent it all back to Paris). My thoughts smelling Jules for the first time? "Ok...so, it's a sage-y aromatic fougere. What's the big deal?" But I kept wearing it, and it started to grow on me. Jules made me realize just how much sameness there is in fragrance. A sage-y aromatic fougere IS a big deal because there aren't any others quite like it. 99% of that category smells of the same soapy-clean lavender/coumarin combo perfumers have been concocting since Houbigant released Fougere Royale in 1889. Jules, on the other hand...there's definitely something kind of dirty about it. It's not B.O. de toilette or anything dramatic like that, but it's a nice reminder that people don't always smell like soap, and that can even be quite sexy.
