Midnight Poison, my missed opportunity, my FOMO kryptonite, my obsession, lost and found. This is a love letter through time and space. It’s 2007, I’m in my senior year at university. I watch TV to switch off my overloaded brain and catch my breath amid the non-stop anxiety of essays and exams. During the ad break, I’m about to leave my easy chair to make a cup of tea, when amid the clips showing off gleeful families with fluorescent teeth, deliriously happy about their new laundry detergent, magic begins. I’m caught off guard, I stop midstep. The hauntingly beautiful, hysterical music holds me in its thrall as I watch a dark fairy tale of naughty Cinderella gate-crushing the party and making everyone gasp as she jumps from the banister and flies over the crowd like a wrecking ball, clutching the rope with her black nails, her electric blue gown billowing behind like bat wings. By the setting and the dress, I can immediately tell it’s a perfume commercial, nevertheless it’s nothing like I’ve seen before. I’m intrigued. That’s how two of my obsessions started. MUSE and Midnight Poison. I immediately run to our family desktop and search for the title of the song that played in this video. That’s an instant crush and Mattew Bellamy’s ecstatic vocals would become the soundtrack to my life for years to come. It’s not that simple with the perfume, though. I wanted to try it so badly, I was absolutely certain I’d love it. Yet no way my broke college self could afford something from a luxury brand. Three years later I’m at Sephora with a friend. I am an exchange grad student with a generous stipend, so I am determined to walk out of here with my dream perfume. I dash to Dior’s stand, I grasp the dark-blue bottle of Midnight Poison, spray it on my wrist, and immediately put my nose to my skin. Oh no! No-no-no-no-no-no. It’s some masculine cologne! Where’s the dark velvety softness? Where’s sweetness and richness? Where’s everything I expected? I’m so disappointed I could cry. My kind friend suggests I give it several minutes to settle and develop, but when citruses give way to dark and bitter patchouli, I am finally convinced to pass on this one. I end up settling for agreeable Nina by Nina Ricci and leave the store a bit heartbroken. Ten more years elapsed. I have behind me a lot of hard decisions, changes, and losses. I am in a new city and MUSE once again heals my soul. When “Space Dementia” starts on shuffle, it reminds me about this mysterious perfume that I didn’t get. I am curious, so I go online to see how much it is nowadays. And I find out it’s discontinued. It’s gone. It’s lost. It’s no more. Instead of online stores, I find links to pages and pages of people lamenting this untimely demise and declaring their undying love for this unparalleled fragrance, that nothing, NOTHING can ever replace. For the few remaining bottles, the prices are exorbitant, so I strike out the option of ever owning the original from my plans and fall into the rabbit hole of forums, reviews, catalogs, comparisons, and replacement suggestions. I find a few candidates. Along the way, I also find out that people can be passionately devoted, even religious about perfumes, and Midnight Poison definitely enjoys a cult-like following. For every suggestion of something similar, there is an equal number of upvotes and downvotes. People cannot agree on anything. I am as intrigued as I was when I first saw that TV ad — ten times as much now. Dark, mystical, sweet, oriental — that’s exactly what I expected it to be. Can it be that my nose was wrong all those years ago? I order a generic copy from a local manufacturer just to assess it anew. And it’s gorgeous, even if a bit old-fashioned. What? I don’t remember it smelling so beautifully. Why? I MUST HAVE IT! I track one of the more or less affordable dupes recommended by the community and give it a try. It’s a bit more spicy than the generic I tried, but still lovely. Can it be that I’ve made a horrible mistake all those years ago? I kick myself for not giving it more time to develop or just grabbing the biggest bottle available just to have it. I must have it! My husband listens to me going on obsessively about Midnight Poison and one evening produces a small vial with a dark blue cap — a precious decant of the original. Even before I unveil the many layers of bubble wrap it’s lovingly swaddled into, I begin to perceive something painfully familiar, something that makes me nostalgic and wistful, something that brings me back. Far back, farther than that first sniff at Sephora, farther than the Goth Cinderella TV ad. Way-way back to my childhood. It’s the sweet smell of rose and vanilla that emanated from a coral-colored clamshell box my mother gave me to play with when I was maybe four or five. It looked like a powder case, but inside it, there were grooves in white plastic — beds that used to host tiny vials of oil perfumes — or so my mother told me, I only remember the empty box and the smell. The smell... Soft and caressing as sunlight, sweet as summer fruit, warm as beach sand. It’s the smell of dreams lost in the mists of time, safe childcare rooms, happy storybooks, my first summer by the sea. Why does this perfume smell so different to what I remember trying it in the store? Why does it speak to my soul now? When I wear it, I feel safe and loved. I feel invincible. I feel beautiful, strong, worthy. I don’t know why other people love Midnight Poison — they must have their unique personal reasons. But for me, it’s the smell of my mother’s love, before she became anxious and depressed. When she was young and happy, still used perfumes and eyeshadows, danced at parties — and didn’t cry. It’s the smell of safety and happiness, before distress, before the world became bleak and hostile. It’s the smell of a fairy tale before it became real. Midnight Poison smells of roses reminding me of my lost home — a land that was famous for the rose oil industry, among other things. It smells of vanilla — sweet, warm, and delectable. Yet it has this dark and melancholic side to it, making it strong and beguiling instead of saccharine and soppy. Those citruses and patchouli that scared me off when I wasn’t ready empower me now. They are there to ward off evil, to shield against all nastiness in the world. I eventually saved up and I got myself a full bottle of it. Not because it’s discontinued and rare, a true gem to have in any collection (and my collection that started with attempts to find a dupe for Midnight Poison is now spiraling out of control). No. It’s because of how it makes me feel and what it conjures up from the depth of my memory. It gives me the peace that I lost and the confidence that I always lacked. It completes me and makes me an enchantress who has the power to shape the world as she pleases. An irresistible beautiful witch who can do anything — if she wishes to. Perfumes are real magic potions — now I know it. The only trick is to find the one that fits you just so. I am one of those unfortunate souls whose potion was discontinued — or fortunate enough to find something so perfectly fitting. That’s a matter of perspective. Look for yours before it’s lost forever. I promise it exists — your elixir of power, your breath of life, your secret weapon, your consolation, your window to the past — or future, perfumes can do that, you know. Look, try, sniff, perceive, be insatiable — close your eyes and let your heart decide what it desires. This journey, however long, is worth every twist and turn.

THE MUSIC OF THE SILENCED ROSE Dior's "Midnight Poison" is a diabolically poisonous potion like few others. It has an ambiguous and mysterious scent. It impresses with its pungent Centifoglia rose aroma blended with patchouli. It is slightly resinous and minty, and also quite earthy. For me, a great admirer of the feminine genre, this perfume portrays the most beautiful Balzacian lady, certainly a mature woman, eternally young and sure of her timeless beauty. The association that the fragrance evokes for me is that of a tropical night storm, with thunder and lightning. It hits us suddenly and indiscreetly. Its intense accords allow for a citrusy opening, sweetened by tangerine and slightly caramelised by the influence of the other notes, which are still evolving. Suddenly, the rose arrives, a dark, almost dirty rose that opens up, surrounded by nuances of earthy patchouli. The atmosphere is dark and enigmatic. The initial storm gives way to a quieter, darker night, very enveloping and marked by a bright, pink full moon that guides our senses. But it is the woody, earthy patchouli note that becomes dominant and enveloping, like the cloak of night. But the rose note maintains the lunar influence that guides us through the evolution of the fragrance. We then notice that an amber note begins to soften the atmosphere, which remains intimidating, but without being austere. I discover that the beauty of Balzacian knows how to smile and somehow warm our souls as it extends its hand to us. At the base, things are moving slowly. The clouds dissipate, revealing the glow of the moon in the deep blue but increasingly clear night sky. The bewitching, dark scent of the rose becomes a warm, velvety heart, surrounded by lighter woods and a new sweetness conveyed by a creamy, seductive vanilla. Unfortunately, night does not last forever, and just as night fades into day, this night poison fades after 8 hours. However, it lasts long enough to spread its seductive mantle and conquer us, creating inner feelings of admiration for whoever uses it... I wonder who that will be? . The perfume industry has already removed two precious "midnights" from our daily lives. Along with Dior's Midnight Poison, Van Cleef & Arpels' Midnight In Paris has also left the shop windows. Although it is still possible to find both perfumes in the maze of the Internet, both have a continuity in the olfactory world that, whether they were inspired by them or not, have somewhat similar accords and sensations. Midnight Poison has always been the best offering in the Poison line for women. But that, of course, is just my opinion. I still have an almost full 100ml bottle which I keep religiously and which both my wife and I use sparingly. One of its perfumers - Jacques Cavallier, the wizard behind YSL's Opium Pour Homme and Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, among other things - has done a spectacular imitation with Louis Vuitton's magnificent Matière Noire, which I also own. It is not exactly a similar scent, but the flood of emotions is the same. Now I know what to do when my Dior poison runs out. MY OPINION: This is an eternal perfume that was criminalally discontinued. Its fans were condemned to console themselves with weak inspirations such as Elle by Yves Saint Laurent or Perles de Lalique by Lalique. Those who did not give up on the original found refuge in some Internet reseller, but at exorbitant prices. So I would advise against buying blind. Rarely have rose and patchouli been so well combined. If you find this lost gem in a small perfumery near you, don't miss it. I bought my 100ml bottle (still in its box and in mint condition) lost in the middle of a neighbour's garage sale paraphernalia. My first review on a new account. I used to have another account with alot of reviews from back when I was in school, which just got lost over the years and never really wanted to start from over on a new account. But oh how I missed this! So, midnight poison has been quite the experience. Or lack thereof? For a very long time, it has been something that I have wanted to own a bottle of for years and years. I would not recommend blind buying this at all. And not because it's a bad scent, I do quite love this, and not because it's overly polarising either. In fact, the fact that its not as ground breaking and eccentric as I imagined it to be is why I would not recommend the blind buy. Whenever I have read it's reviews and experiences with midnight poison, one acclaimed perfume writer even stated in his book that this is a fragrance for women who have donated their brain to science, or something to that effect, not to mention the notes going patchouli>rose>amber according to votes, I had expected a large dreary wooden rose, something damp and dark and dense, and perhaps even cold and medicinal or GOTHIC. But nope. Don't get me wrong, while I have grown to love this for the scent that it is, it is not really as "midnight" as I'd have liked it to be. In fact, I would much rather wear this in warmer months than in winter. Midnight poison opens with a burst of fresh oranges and a touch of bergamot, and a lot of patchouli slicing through it. This however is not the warm dirty smelling patchouli as we know it to be, nor is it the cold and medicinal patchouli that I personally love. It is the fresh and clean patchouli present in most fragrances on the shelves today. This clean patchouli with the fresh citrus is just very apt for the summer months. While some cold fragrances really ARE winter fragrances, a nod to Dior Poison and Clinique Aromatics, a cold fragrance that is also FRESH is just a warmer weather fragrance to me. While the citrus does fade on skin, making way for a cold smelling rose and a slightly smoky amber, which I personally love, the fragrance becomes considerably lighter and never warms up too much despite losing the burst of citrus in the top notes. The fragrance stays like this for most of the wear, just getting lighter with the vanilla become more pronounced as most of the smoke and wood accords fade, which was already just a touch to start with. On fabric, the citrus stays a good while longer and the patchouli and amber is more pronounced. Longevity and sillage leaves much to be desired, either that or I must have gotten some sort of anosmia from this fragrance. Lasts better on clothes. So yes while it is not a generic fragrance at all, it is also not in the league of other love hate/fragrances, I imagine quite a lot more people would find this pleasant than say, something like Tom Ford's Black Orchid, but it is still well done nevertheless. I personally cannot stand fragrances with citrus in them but I still quite like this. My initial disappointment faded relatively fast as I came to love the fragrance for what it is instead of what my expectations were of it. tldr; not really as midnight as everyone says, and not a heavy fragrance either, still pleasant nevertheless. A cold rose with a solid base of clean patchouli and a creamy/balmy touch of smoke-y amber and vanilla in the background. PS: this is not as masculine as everyone says either, perhaps only in the opening. I personally find fragrances that dry down with a prominent vanilla to lean more feminine than masculine. People should wear whatever floats their boats though.

A little bit of background before I start: I just knew midnight poison from the advertisement video and all the fuss in the fragrance community, but I had never smelled the juice up until today. I've tried all Poison versions (besides Tendre) and hate them all, so I never really paid attention to this one until last week, when I just happened to see an ad on the website where I normally buy perfume for a full 50 ml 2007 bottle for 50€, so I jumped to contact the seller because I could always resell it for double the price I paid in case I didn't like it. I also decided to do my homework well and tried Elle by YSL to see if I'd like this, and though Elle was OK, it didn't particularly appeal to me, as it was too fruitchouli for my taste. Fast forward 3 days later and I meet this lovely old lady at a park, who told me how her husband bought the perfume for her but she didn't like it, so she kept it in a box and forgot about it for 12 years. After checking the bottle was authentic I get on the train and spray it on my wrist to smell why someone would pay 200€ for a discontinued perfume. Long story short: though I wouldn't pay as much, I understand the appeal. So now, to the review: MP took a couple of minutes to project, even if it's 24oC now. It opens on my skin as bergamot candy, very sweet and citrusy, but quickly develops into a very deep rose-patchouli, similar to Chanel Coco Noir, but more straightforward without all the other notes. The base notes pop up about 20 minutes in. The beauty of this perfume, though, is that all the notes have been popping in and out of my nose for the last 3 h: sometimes it's rose-patchouli, others it's mandarine-amber, then it's vanilla-patchouli, then all at the same time... on and on. It shows the quality and the possibility to do a really good frag with very few ingredients if you mix it well. I'd have to try it in the long run, but so far the projection is crazy (a quarter spray on my wrist and is overpowering 2 sprays of Alien on my neck) and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere after 3 h. I'd say it's a strong fragrance, not excessively dark or sexy, but beautiful, mysterious and interesting (like Eva Green herself in Casino Royale), most suitable for autumn-spring nights but wearable all-year-round, maybe with the exception of hot humid places. I'm so glad that I jumped to buy this because, after years of waiting, I finally found my Poison. 10/10

This is my poison - absolutely enchanting, addictive, nocturnal. When I wear it, I feel like a sorceress in a silk dress, walking barefoot in moonlight. The combo of rose, patchouli and bergamot in this is simply legendary. I keep hoping they bring this poison back someday, even though it's not very likely. Apparently, the tea is that MP was discontinued as a result of the drama that blew up with John Galliano who was the creative director at Dior at the time - he stirred some serious sh at a restaurant. Some say all frags related to him were pulled as a result. But we may never know for sure if that's the reason. Anyway, here's some comparisons with dupes side by side: * Passion de Night from Fragrance World - imo the best dupe for MP in existence. Surprisingly, PdN has a smoother opening than MP. The drydown is extremely similar, like 99%. Perhaps MP is slightly deeper - which makes sense considering that it's aged - but honestly they are super close. Longevity of both is very similar on me. I don't think I'd be able to distinguish them blindly. It's a steal for the price and I hope it never gets discontinued. * Rose&Patchouli from NOU - it appeared more similar to MP when I wasn't comparing them side by side tbh. But still, it is acceptably close, around 85% imo. Initially it smells noticeably different but over time gets closer to MP. It is slightly dryer than MP, less dark. Still, it's a good choice even on its own as it smells gorgeous and is very affordable. Good pick for summer. * Perles de Lalique - it is the least similar to MP, but I'm including it as people seem to mark it as similar. Not a dupe at all. Generally, they have very little in common, but after a few hours on skin Perles gets this very subtle hint of MP from how the rose and patchouli evolve - I'm guessing this is where people detect the similarity. I love Perles on its own as it's a very ghostly, spectral scent. MP is very sweet, even cloying, and moister in comparison.

I was absolutely seduced by this scent when I tested it in a Paris Sephora back in Christmas of 2012. I was contemplating whether to buy the perfume as a student. I ran a quick search on Google where rumours of the perfume being discontinued was already floating around. A retail assistant at that Sephora branch assured me that it was still going to be around but I didn't want to take my chances and bought a 100ml bottle. I'm so glad I did that because the resale prices for this on eBay are absolutely ridiculous! The burst of citrus and patchouli felt like the start of mysterious chase through the dark woods, eventually leading you to a magical meadow of roses and vanilla. I normally spritz just once on my wrist and dab it on my pulse points and the sillage is enormous. The scent lingers even on my clothes for weeks. The fragrance stays on my skin for almost 36h, even after showering twice. I've always picked up a bit of grapefruit (it's likely the bergamot) from this perfume even though it's not listed as one of its notes. The scent evokes feelings of elegance, darkness, power, and allure. After its discontinuation, I tested the other flankers in the line but found them all too sweet for my liking. I don't remember much of the scent of the original Poison nor Hypnotic Poison either because this has my heart completely. I only reserve this perfume for black tie events because I don't want to finish the bottle too quickly. I've found a dupe on Oil Perfumery that's meant to be an impression of this, but have yet to try that. I'll be clinging onto the flacon for the rest of my life even when the juice empties.

Finally was able to snag a few decants of this beauty. I'm a big fan of the Dior Poison line (with Poison Girl being the exception), and Midnight Poison has a reputation that I just couldn't bypass when I had the chance to try it. Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the citrusy and patchouli opening. Honestly, to my nose, the opening smells like Pine Sol. Now, I genuinely enjoy the clean smell of Pine Sol ... Just not as a perfume, haha. Fortunately, though, those citruses disappear within 2 minutes and are nowhere to be seen once they are gone. This fragrance becomes a rose-patchouli-amber-vanilla powerhouse once those citruses fade away quickly, and that's when I start to love it. I completely agree with some who say that the rose starts to become "jammy," so there's a sweetness that blends oh-so-beautifully with the sharp patchouli, the powdery amber, and the creamy vanilla. Honestly, on my skin, I want to compare the rose note in Midnight Poison to Lush's Rose Jam (which is one of my all-time favorite fragrances, period!). Midnight Poison totally comes across as a greener, and more ambery version of Rose Jam, and it's beautiful. If you are a fan of Lush's Rose Jam and want something to wear at night, then I think that Midnight Poison will become your best friend. I, like so many others, wish that Dior had not discontinued this beauty. I'm guessing it got the boot because it came out during a time where the sweet celebrity fragrances/Juicy Couture boom was first happening, so I could easily see how this got lost in the fray. A shame, because it *is* a beautiful fragrance.

Mysterious strong counter part of poison line I never tried this until very recently it has the poison dna but yet so different and unique from the rest of the flankers Gorgeous in its own way very witchy vibe love the rose in this yet very masculine great for autumn & winter shame it’s no longer available to buy without paying a heavy price tag Edit: so in love I recently purchased 2 bottles of the first and second edition Well what more can I say, i did recently read a blog about why this was discontinued apparently they used pure extracts from amber patchouli and rose so they tried to reproduce this with the more synthetic ingredients they use now in their poison perfumes but it just didn’t work and didn’t smell anything like midnight poison So that was the real reason why they couldn’t reproduce the same scent as time changes everything this perfume needed the pure extracts to stay alive Sadly we have lost this beauty forever and it will never be back in production But I’m glad I managed to find a couple of bottles reasonably priced It truly is my scent it just makes me smile when ever I sprits this on my wrists I would stock up on this if I could If you love it you should too You won’t find another midnight poison The closest dupe I found was from perfume Parlour extract de parfum version dark venom But the dua version late night venom is too ott

Notice : For all new fragrance lovers who are unsure, the 100 ml eBay tall glass bottles in blue glass with rounded but tall shape for £44.99 On eBay are fake , seller is “ svetsoro-4” please don’t buy them, they come from Eastern Europe ,but are fake as I had one a few years ago in hypnotic Poison eau secrete. The one I got was identical but red not blue , it was rubbish ! Fake! This shape was only available in hypnotic Poison eau secrete and still is faked a lot. The real version of eau secrete did look similar and there are genuine sellers of Hypnotic Poison Eau secrete but the fakes are similar in pics, it’s only in your hands , bubbles in glass and scent Being watered down smelling u will realise. Midnight poison comes in blue round bottles , 2 genuine versions only, both are fully round with a black small top. One in 2007 and a slightly different but not by much bottle in 2012. pics above, no tall partly see through blue glass bottles were made, They have a picture of Eva green on the fake Slip cover. I know midnight is expensive, but it’s so unlikely these fakes will be Worth getting going by the fake hypnotic version I had to return, of Course it’s up to you. I’ve let eBay know that the tall glass blue bottles are fake but there not interested As they earn out of fakes ! So we’re on our own . Thanks kindly.

It's been nine months since my review and nothing has changed, I still absolutely love this perfume and it's in my top five of all time. I just wanted to add this lil nugget of information... Midnight Poison is absolutely gorgeous when layered with Byredo Gypsy Water. I never really wore Gypsy Water (got it in the nomade collection and always preferred Bal D'Afrique) but now I wear it often paired with this. If you have a bottle and cherish every drop, finding a layering combination you like is a great way to extend it. One of my coworkers told me it was the best combination he ever smelled, only rivaled by the personal signature scent of a coworker from a nearby department who wears Baccarat Rouge 540 paired with Miss Dior Rose N' Roses. I can be kind of a snob when it comes to dupe houses (I find it similar to cheaper brands making knockoffs of designer items) and generally avoid them in favor of just getting samples/decants of perfumes that would otherwise be too expensive for me to buy. So I've never sought out a Midnight Poison dupe. However, I would definitely love to try the Louis Vuitton one mentioned in the review below mine, given that it's from a respected, reputable house AND from the same perfumer... say no more!

This is such a nice, well-rounded fragrance and the best from the Poison line, imo I think it got discontinued due to bad marketing. It’s described as a “mysterious, date night fragrance” and the name ‘Midnight Poison’ makes you instantly think of something dark, alluring and gourmand, which this fragrance is anything but! Dior should’ve made this into an entirely new perfume, instead of marketing it as a Poison -flanker. Midnight Poison is a total “freshy” , perfectly suitable for spring/summer daytime. I can see this fragrance reach its full potential on a hot summer afternoon, when you just lounge around with a cold glass of iced tea ..in your gothic mansion ..and your name is Wednesday... I guess the “mysterious” part did creep in after all, but not to the extend of a classic seductress. I personally would not wear it as a night time fragrance. To me it plays in the same ballpark as Dior’s Bois D’Argent or Gris Dior. It’s not strictly feminine, it has a unisex touch, smelling citrusy, spicy and woody. I truly wished it was still available for a reasonable price, but I bought a dupe recently: Eclat 293. Highly recommend for anyone, who doesn’t want to take chances on an overpriced second-hand bottle.

A few months ago I splashed out and bought a bottle of Dior Midnight poison for a huge price increase. A scent from my past I love and miss. It makes me so sad it was discontinued. At first spritz I immediately notice this little buzz of almost medicinal spice which then gives way to the creamy vanilla hugging the patchouli notes. On my skin it becomes warm, comforting.. very creamy, rich and powdery. I feel like this truly deserved the title ‘poison’ out of the others in the range. To me this is an indulgent day time scent for cold winter days and a perfectly sexy night time scent. It’s not grounbreakingly unique as there are many things about how it ages on skin that do smell familiar to other sweet oriental fragrances but to me it is perfection. Due to the review on fragrantica I decided to purchase YSL Elle as a dupe I can have access to this beautiful scent all the time and can save this bottle for special occasions. For me it is almost identical (a 95% match. The spicy, medicinal like note missing from the very opening of Elle which to me prevents it being a complete dupe. However after 5-10minutes with a spritz on each wrist they smell identical on my skin. On clothes that 5% difference remains.)

I've had this one for a few years, and never reviewed it. :) It is an absolute classic, and I am thrilled to own this iconic beauty, but I also think that the hype is a bit exaggerated, and the prices got out of control. It is my favorite of all of the poisons. This is a deep, dark, mysterious and powerful scent, not really sexy so much as intoxicating. Its warm, witchy, and yet playful. Its mature, but maybe ageless. Its so well balanced, yet its patch, citrus, woods, rose and amber are all distinctively there when you look for them. Its patchouli is in a similar style to Vintage Coco Noir, if a comparison is needed. They are not similar overall, but the patchouli part is. The rose is deep and chewy, and I think the opening of Perles de Lalique has a similar quality, so they get compared, but after the opening, they are quite different. MP gets more spicy and sweet and has amazing longevity, and Perles is drier and fades much faster, and is less complex. YSL Elle is the most similar to MP, in my opinion, but its overall lighter, and doesnt last as well. Its arguably easier to wear though, so for the price, it s a reasonable alternative.

I helped my friend clean out her mom's house, and was rewarded with a vintage bottle of this, totally full. IT IS DIVINE. I'm enthralled by its incredible uniqueness, the patchouli, citrusy, vanilla magical wonderfulness of it all. This must be one of the sexiest perfumes of all time, a true masterpiece, and like others, I recognize how special it is that I have managed to have one of these fall from the sky into my lap, and so don't want to waste it. But I cant help myself from spraying more or reaching for her on date nights, as she is so magnetic and a constant compliment getter. How could it still be full when I first got it? How did my friend's mom stop herself from bathing in this like I want to? I literally have an angel (dont do it, 25% is already gone and you just got it) and a devil (you know you want it, just do it!) on my shoulders every time I reach for it. It is truly shameful that this is discontinued. Does Dior hate taking our money? I doubt it, so there must be a reason. Did you run out of magical unicorn dust, Dior? Tell us why!!! Because one day (sadly very soon at this rate) I will run out. And I will definitely cry.

I really feel like when this was released in 2007, it filled a previously empty spot in the Poison line and made it complete. It's just not the same now that Midnight Poison and Tendre Poison have been discontinued. The Poison lineup at the Dior counter just feels so sad and empty now! Poison Girl and Hypnotic Poison edp are NOT substitues either, same with the roller pearls. Did anyone even ask/need for those to be created??? They REALLY downgraded the design of the boxes too, and somehow, even the bottles. It's the same with the J'adore and Addict lines and even their mens fragrances too. It's just extremely sad what's going on with Dior at the moment. I remember a time when visiting the Dior counter made my wallet fear for it's life, but now I wouldn't want any of their stuff, even if they threw it at me! Well, MAYBE some of the ''Masion Christian Dior'' ones, but even those used to be better, and if you are lucky enough to even find them where I live, they are outrageously expensive. I REALLY miss the days when the Dior counter had a decent selection with much better quality and in spite of all that was still more affordable!

A friend gave me a 30ml bottle and I loved it so much that I bought two 100ml bottles. Then this has been my signature fragrance for a long time. When I finished using one and started using the other, I found out that Midnight Poison was discontinued, so I retired from my daily scent to keep it for a long time. A very mysterious and dark scent. Patchouli, bergamot and rose with vanilla and musk. It's a patchouli bomb right from the start. At first it appears with bergamot, so it's a little aggressive. In the unlikely event that someone else notices the scent during the top note, it will be like this – wow, you smell Indian ink! (This is my experience) But as rose and musk appear, the scent becomes softer and more complex. Now I don't think it's such a rare combination. But it was a niche and unique scent that I never smelled anywhere else at the time. It probably came out about 15 years too early. If this was on sale now, I think it would probably be a very popular perfume. I keep hoping to be revived.

Lo ho gia recensito in passato ma siccome oggi cel'ho addosso mi viene di descriverlo cosi come lo sento. La sua apertura è un mix molto strano e tempestoso,non si capisce cosa sia ne di cosa sappia. Ricorda abbastanza la stessa apertura di Belle d'opium, un misto fruttato,speziato e spazzato da una nube di coriandolo e anice. Poi la sua struttura di patchouli,mandarino e rosa vellutata,con un sottofondo di prugna,caramello e incenso misterioso e caldo si fa strada. Quello che evoca è la notte, luce di luna argentata e buio profondo,calma e tranquillità. Un po freddo come profumo,ma si scalda sulla pelle di chi lo porta. Ho ricevuto parecchi consensi quando lo ho indossato,è una fragranza coinvolgente. Complessivamente profondo e avvolgente,resta addosso come un mantello magico,ha il fascino che solo i poison possiedono.

I know this elderly lady, through Facebook, and she knows how much I love parfume. She wrote to me, that she had a Poison from Dior, she was selling, and if I was interested in buying it. I thought she ment "The Poison," parfume, and said that I would like to buy it, but money is a little tight this month, so I would have to decline. She said that she had been cleaning out her parfumes and just wanted to get rid of them, so if I paid her 10$, so she could sent it to me, that would be enough. She wrote to me, that she had put a few others in the package. Boy was I in for a surprise. She had put a Hugo Boss, two Chloé parfumes, a Cacharel, a Balenciaga.....and this gem. It is an all most full 30ml bottle, and I ́m in heaven. What a gem. Absolutely stunning. Very sexy, confident and perfect for winter. I wrote to her a huge thank you, and if she was sure she didn ́t wanted more, but she said she was glad that the gem went to someone who appreciate this beauty.

I absolutely LOVE this fragrance! It's so alluring, dark, enchanting etc. and it's tied with Hypnotic Poison for being my favorite from the range. I don't know why they would ever discontinue this. It's a shame how insanely expensive this is on the resale market. I spend way (way) too much time checking eBay, Facebook groups, Mercari for this perfume and it's always about $200-$300+ for one bottle. I get compliments whenever I wear this. I think it's fairly unisex. I'm not the biggest patchouli fan and this perfume is by far my absolute favorite patchouli-heavy scent. It's so well-blended. I think it's signature-scent worthy, and therefore fine to be worn year-round. I wore it mostly at night during the summer and it wasn't cloying. It does, however, seem to interact best with cold weather. If you're selling a bottle in the US or Canada, please let me know.... I'm in love

Yesterday I was organizing and dusting a shelf from my perfume collection. My heart sank when I realized that about half of my 50 ml MP bottle has evaporated. I couldn’t have used more than 5 ml myself as I cherish it knowing it’s been discontinued. The bottle is more than 10 years old but I have other, much older perfumes that held the juice well. Anyway, I decided to use and enjoy what was left rather than have it disappear -unappreciated- in thin air! What a beauty! You see while many rose 🌹 patchouli 🍃 compositions come as goth or rock, MP lends a sophisticated elegance to the dark and mysterious nature of this combo. The citruses on top lends some class and airiness, the vanilla some creaminess, so so beautiful. I will be sad to see it go but I have an almost full bottle of YSL Elle which is pretty similar though not identical.

I only have a small decant of Midnight Poison and don't know what year or batch it is from. It opens very fresh with all the facets of citrus, both tart and a bit bitter. Reminding quite a lot of another fragrance by Dior: the Eau Fraiche. Once the bergamot and citrus juice/peel calms down, the dry and cold patchouli takes over. This is where it is most unique, becoming something very eary and stand offish. I love it! In the dry down the ambery vanilla and some smoky accord brings groundedness. But the unsettling feeling still lingers. The dry down is not that far from Guerlain's Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, although without the sweetness from the latter. Where Midnight Poison is cold and aloof, Shalimar Souffle de Parfume is warm and embrasing. But both share the smoky, citrus, vanilla perfection so soothing in summer.

This is poor thing Cinderella turns into a slob girl at midnight, and we have at midnight all only begins. And midnight for us can come and at 6 pm, can't it? Especially if the Prince requires a date :) The aroma is thick, evening, seductive, bitterish, rich in shades & insanely persistent. On the body it heard all day, it stays on clothes until are washed, and on the furs he seems to have fixed forever. The fragrance is demanding to the weareress : if there is no time for yourself, or just have not mood, then take a different perfume. And "Midnight Poison " will not be offended by you. It is ideal for going to the theater, for a romantic dinner by candlelight, as well as for the self-feeling yourself of desirable, mysterious, allpower in a word. Thank you for reading this! :)

Dark, cool-leaning scent that doesn’t really change much from opening to drydown. The citrus is muted and slightly bitter, blending quickly into a soft, powdery, slightly soapy patchouli. The rose isn’t very realistic or dominant. It acts more like a smoothing element, with a powdery feel. There’s a subtle hint of vanilla, but it never turns sweet or warm. It feels quite cold and distant, clean in a slightly sharp way. As I’m writing this, brother just walked in and said it smells like bleach.... seriously.? My bottle is from 2011 and it doesn’t seem like it was stored in the best conditions, but it still smells beautiful. It looks authentic in every aspect, and even if the juice somehow isn’t, I have to give credit, it matches the way people describe this scent perfectly.

I have blind bought it because of Yana of The Scented (YT). Well, it was a risk to me because I dislike Dior's Poisons. But I trust Yana's nose 😁 I really cannot describe how it smells..., because it is so well blended...When you look at the notes, it seems pretty basic, right? Wrong. This perfume is far from basic. It smells niche quality and is very elegant with a hint of darkness. This is something I would wear in a murky, rainy day, when I want to feel posh and comforted. I have just sniffed the blotter again. Yes, somewhere there might be some rose, some patchouli, it even gives you a slight shampoo clean feeling - and turns back to darkness. It is very, very well balanced 👍👏I didn't expect to be it this good 👀 I will probably get a backup bottle of this perfume.

This is the stuff of legends in perfume. I am shocked at how quickly it was discontinued. I bought a bottle when it came out in 2007. The interesting thing is that it was only available at certain retailers (at least here in Canada). Maybe if it had a wider release it would have sold more? Lets be real its all about sales. Also certain perfumes tend to be misunderstood, and revered after they are discontinued. That may be the case here too. Either way, this is an amazing perfume. It has monster sillage and lasting power. It leaves a trail. It has a unique punch of patchouli, rose, vanilla, and amber. It's not for everyone, I can see why it's polarizing in a way. I picked up another bottle luckily and I am using it sparingly as it is so expensive online.

I’m still in disbelief that Dior refuses to bring Midnight Poison back into production. The scent imparts an essence of simultaneous mysterious sexiness and sophisticated womanhood. I think the patchouli is balanced perfectly with the rose, amber, and vanilla; too heavy on the patchouli and it would have veered quickly into hippie territory. I feel incredibly blessed to have snagged a full bottle of the EDT several years ago off eBay for just under $200, while these days the average price is $400-500 💀 So I’m cherishing my bottle and leaving it untouched, only to use on my future wedding day and subsequent anniversaries 👰🏻♀️

E' un profumo che dura abbastanza e che si diffonde attorno come un mantello caldo e scuro.

Finally managed to try it! And it's nothing like I expected. It's often described as wet, deep, dark patchouli, bitter, citrus-y. No, no way. To me it smells quite airy - I smell patchouli, rose and vanilla, there is a light citrus that is felt both in the initial spray and drydown. The blend of the fragrance is smooth and not one note is too prominent. Pink roses, patchouli, slices of a citrus fruit, vanilla pods. There is something rainy and foresty about the fragrance. The scenery I imagine is the red riding hood in the forest in the evening. Something mysterious, whimsical about it. Such a stunning scent.

I loved this scent and it’s beautiful bottle. It’s like there’s an unspoken law of the universe that the more I fall in love with a scent, the more likely it is to be taken away. There was a hard to describe special energy this gave off. Even though my Coco Noir by Chanel has very similar notes, and is technically a more well made scent on paper, it doesn’t give off the same vibe I crave from Midnight Poison. But Coco Noir is as close as you’re going to get to achieving that gothic dark rose with patchouli, with a slight hint of citrus in the top notes.

@ciot @evelinemarie. FYI, that batch code algorithm assumes a loop of every ten years, meaning 2007 and 2017 might have the same code, in theory. However Midnight Poison was discontinued long before 2017, so that code there is assigned to 2007, the year Midnight Poison came out, and in fact the year in which most bottles that are still out there were manufactured. A brief reformulation I believe came out some time between 2009-2011, however the appearance of the bottle is different, as font is gold and size of the words assigned a different scale.

Just ordered the Perfume Parlour version of Midnight Poison (Dark Venom). I will do a comparison with the original to see if it's a worthy replacement, as the prices of Midnight Poison is just too crazy these days. Edit: First impressions, Dark Venom is more citrus dominant in the opening and overall doesn't quite have the darkness and slight earthiness of the OG. It's basically 3/4 of the way there, though. I think once more air gets into the bottle it'll get better over time and the price is pretty good for the 30ml extract spray.

I still have my OG bottle of this its one of my favourite fragrances of all time and I'm gutted that they don't make it anymore :( It means that I don't wear it as often as I want to but every time I do I am reminded how awesome it is. I wish I had bought back ups! This isn't a scent for day wear to my nose its a night time fragrance for me and every time I wear it I feel kick ass and ready to take on the world. I do also love sharing it though and I have sent a couple of cheeky decants to friends to try.

This fragrance was truly amazing—a real masterpiece. Its unique character came from a 'dirty rose' note, which gave it strength and a dynamic edge while commanding attention. Despite the floral element, I (as a man) would wear it easily, as it lacks clear feminine notes. It's a dark, bewitching, and perfectly unisex scent. It is truly sad that Dior stopped making this gem. P.S. To all the Midnight Poison lovers out there: Yves Saint Laurent's Elle is back in production and smells very close to this!

This was my signature scent and gosh do I miss this!!!! I've been through so many perfumes in almost two decades and NOTHING but NOTHING comes close to the magic that Midnight Poison was for me. There are other fragrances I hold dear but this was the fragrance I would rather keep for life and nothing else. It was an earthy, mysterious, dark rose, polarizing potion that made nights out even more memorable. I felt like a raven-haired, gothic pixie wearing this.

I just had to spray this perfume tonight. It's so perfect!!! This is like the most perfect fragrance ever created. I just can't believe it's been discontinued. I have a 100ml perfume and save it for "special occasions" but I have had a really shitty week and you know what.. I want to smell intoxicating, sexy, wild and carefree! And this perfume is just that! I'm writing this review half drunk too but I feel it's fitting for what I'm feeling so deal with it.

Midnight Poison is among my most epically dark and sexy fragrances. Sadly unavailable now, much to the chagrin of many, I am so glad I have this gorgeous gem in my collection. It’s a patchouli bomb and an example of a designer fragrance that dared to be bold and dark. Any woman who can wear Midnight Poison is probably my kind of woman. It’s by far my favorite of all the Poisons. Powerhouse performer. Lives up to its name.

Amazing. So sad it has gone. I think that Fenty has the same DNA as is a Cavallier fragrance but it lacks the potency of DMP. I wear the Fenty and am pleasantly reminded of its earlier ancestor. Like with so many recent creations though it lacks the potency of this original and exciting beautiful scent from the Poison family. Dior have a habit of ruining and discontinuing their best fragrances which is a disgrace.

Midnight posion is sophisticated, mysterious and a bit ominous but at the same time very romantic. I feel like a powerpuffgirl when I wear it. I find this fragrance quite unique and beautiful in its dark and mysterious aspects. The whole composition has integrity and balance. I don't think it's all over the place like other modern patchouli fragrances that try to do too much and put too many components together.

If MP was a movie character... it would be a sexy, badass, she villain that you end up rooting for.(a female version of Loki from the Avengers if you will, or Black Widow before she turned good lol). this is not for the faint hearted. This is potent ☠ I'm surprised I like it so much since I usually go for softer skin scents, but there is just something about it that I can't resist. Please bring it back❤

finally got my hands on a bottle and im so glad that i did. pretty sure the only reason dior hasnt bought this baddie back yet is probably bc they know they cant quite recreate her magic. that said they should definitely try, better than letting her just die. talented brilliant incredible amazing showstopping spectacular never the same totally unique completely not ever been done before love her

After recently trying a bottle I’ve purchased with great difficulty and enjoying again the exquisite blend, I also tried to find a dupe. I ordered Belle de la Russie and tried many others, including Elle, and let me tell you wholeheartedly that Belle is by far the closest. I can say 95% which for me is a major statement. Also, at the price of it you don’t have anything to lose.

So I see on Trade Me (New Zealands version of Ebay) a half bottle of this amaziinnngly beautiful glorious juice is $300 😓😓😓😓 (25ml) Riiight out my budget and I moan about it to all who will listen, each time it's listed (this is the 3rd time it has been) . So yea if any other kiwis are on here looking there u will find it. Pleassssse send me decant. Hahahaha 🤣🤣😅😆🤞

I love it!! Its so mysterious and captivating. Not too heavy imo, but a very distinct scent. It gives dark feminine, not very approachable-yet seductive. Perfect blend of patchouli, citruses and rose. Though it is said that YSL-Elle is very similar, I don’t get it. To me it’s much more sophisticated and complex than Elle. I wish it was not discontinued.

The fact that this perfume has been (and continues to be) discontinued, is enough proof that general public noses (and their attached wallets) have seriously lost their way. There are fragrances, by the million, but very few actually transform oneself by wearing them. This is one of the few. You get as vampired as you can get. A self empowerment scent.

I'm sad cause I'm forgetting what this smells like :( I was young, I remember the ad on tv, the Muse song playing, I became obsessed. I smelled it for the first time a few months later and completely loved it. But again, I was so young, didn't have the money to buy Dior, no way. And when I did, this was discontinued. Feeling nostalgic

Years later and I am still heartbroken that this was discontinued. It wasn’t for everyone, but proceed with caution.. finding even a sample could possibly have you chasing this dragon with the rest of us. Absolutely baffling that this was discontinued and not kept with the permanent line. She was the star of the Poison show, for me.

I had to custom blend mini sample fragrances from the Demeter Fragrance collection to mimic a scent close to this. Combining Rose, Dirt, Patchouli,Sandalwood, Bergamot,Vanilla, Amber...a decent knock off, but still not the quality of Dior. Just bring this perfume back Dior, pretty please?

Dior I beg you please bring this back there is nothing like it, this one stands out on its own, the crispness of the citrus meshed in with the rose and patchouli is remarkable, definitely a unisex fragrance and a compliment getting words can’t describe it, if you know you know. 10/10

It was my first proper perfume which I got for my 18th birthday from my best friend. I felt amazing wearing it. Just mysterious and powerful. The smell was magical, the woody notes were like a summer evening in the forest. It is such a shame this has not make a come back since 2009.
