New Look 1947

This is one of a few of my go-to, feminine leaning fragrances I reach for when I don’t want my usual masculine heavies or my spicy, amber-forward or woody beasts. In these current times & being indoors for such long periods, sometimes all you want is something you know is there and isn’t going to challenge you; something that isn’t simply citrus heavy, floats around you and doesn’t give you nose burnout & olfactory fatigue. New Look 1947 is just such a fragrance that exudes class, elegance and style, whilst also being somewhat understated. Despite its original release only around 10 years ago, it harks back to the 1950’s for me; an era where even a ‘casual’ look meant still being stylish and the scent you wore paralleled that ethos. As has been mentioned, it doesn’t have monstrous longevity or projection but I think it would spoil its effect if it did. I personally get around 5-6 hours before it becomes a skin scent and projection is moderate for an hour or so but what makes it perfect for me is it’s sillage; it’s incredibly impressive given the overall subdued nature of the fragrance, which I suspect is down to it’s aldehydic & floral nature. With that in mind though, every time I wear this, it’s occurred to me that this reminds me more of a Chanel fragrance than a Dior offering. It just has that aura around it and at the end of the day, beautiful perfumery is beautiful perfumery: end of conversation. This is though, a fragrance for grown-up’s that appreciate traditional perfumery and without a doubt, feminine leaning but that doesn’t matter to me one bit. I’ve tried getting my wife to take a departure from her Dior Gris Montaigne to this on occasion but she’s resisted thus far. More for me then! Actually..... forget all of the above because I can make my point more succinctly; it soothes my soul ...... that’s exactly what it does.

I'm sad to hear this is being discontinued! I honestly don't like the new direction that Dior is going in with their new fragrances by Francis Kukdijan. The new version of this doesn't sound nice at all or even like it's going to be a similar scent. Might as well be called something else! This particular version does indeed have some similarities to the 2017 version of J'adore L'or, which I'm sad to see is also discontinued. They both share that cacophany of yellow and white floral notes like the ylang ylang, jasmine and tuberose and a very similar vanilla dry-down, except for New Look 1947 having the warmness of benzoin as well and J'adore L'or 2017 having the tonka bean. I can smell some of the spiciness from the pink pepper at the top and hints of the gardenia and the rose in the heart notes, but they aren't at all prominent to me. Everything is masterfully blended in this perfume and it is a good example of why I admire François Demachy and his work so much. I got 8 and a half hours of wear from New Look 1947 and a moderate sillage/projection from my skin. I could see myself wearing this both night and day in all seasons, whether I want to be dressed up or dressed down. I'd also definitely call this a feminine perfume, which is my preference. I could imagine Charlize Theron wearing this along with J'adore. It gives me golden goddess vibes. Altogether, I'd give this fragrance a 9/10. It is absolutely stunning!

Okay so I have both formulation, 1st and reformulated in 2018. There is slight difference, overall you can’t go wrong with either one, the fragrance is gorgeous. But the main difference is the longevity, I think older version is a little stronger and Ylang is more dominant in the begging, while new version benzoin in more dominant to my nose. As it dries down, the new version speeds up to powdery feminine goodness faster than the older version and fades away faster too. I blind bought half a bottle(older version)I loved the fragrance so much that I purchased full bottle and it appeared to be new reformulated version, I didn’t know until I checked the batch codes. So the conclusion is I wish I had a full bottle of older version for its longevity. I think Dior is slacking on the quality lately. It’s upsetting. I am keeping the full bottle. I don’t need 2 bottles so the half full one(older version) is up on eBay if anyone interested.

I am so happy to fall for this one! After I found a tuberose fragrance in MFKs Le Beau that I loved, I was able to appreciate tuberose. I think it combines this with the ylang-ylang in both scents that I like. They are a lovely mix, and it stops the tuberose from overpowering and getting too sweet or granny! I was devastated that Le Beau was discontinued, but at least this has some of that lovely sunny, happy vibe that it brought to be. 1947 has a vintage loveliness that may be associated with a slightly more mature woman, say 30+. While both are sophisticated, I feel the vintage vibe elevates it to a more experienced depth and has a less whimsical impression than Le Beau. Still, anyone can try it and fall in love.

This smells a bit vintagy, aldehydic in the begging, may be it’s the Ylang Ylang? But then it dries down the most gorgeous vanilla benzoin jasmine aroma, is so soft powdery like a cloud and cozy, so feminine. It reminds me of Dior addict a little bit the spicy note is tamed down and more soft here. I’m in love with this fragrance. One concern like the other mentioned longevity is not the greatest, but I do love the fragrance that it doesn’t bother me. This review is for the 1st formulation, I didn’t know that until recently I checked the batch code on my bottle.

It is more of a classic scent,but not dated! like a formal wear type but u can also dress it up or down (white shirt and jeans). I think i found my new signature scent! I love this soo much, that i even wear it to bed it makes me calm from the powdery vibe of it. Moderate longevity 3-4 hrs on my skin till it become a skin scent but last forever on my clothes, i sprayed it on my pyjama's last night and i can still smell it today. soft florals, and fluffy, reminiscent of a hollywood modern day era. all year round. I'm inlove with it!

This is an ode to classic perfumery, with nods to Chanel and Guerlain, a stunning, voluptuous floral with honeyed benzoin and vanilla softening the base. The type of person who wears this would be classy but not showy, a friendly sort of class, mature and confident but with youthful energy, whereas the type of person wearing the ghastly 2024 New Look would be some sort of youth compensating for their generational malaise by smelling like a chemical explosion and probably sporting some sort of jagged, asymettrical haircut.

I bought a bottle of this fragrance since it’s discontinued and found it for a good price, I didn’t have high expectations. I was certainly wrong, this is absolutely has become one of the top 3 Dior Privee. I immediately went online and bought another massive bottle. This is what I get, jasmine, orange blossom and Benzoin, what a fragrance/aroma it creates (jasmine and Amber a match made in heaven) I love this This is 10/10 fragrance for me and that was a nice surprise.

Francois Demachy should really be commended for creating a formula that masterfully blends tuberose with all of the other fragrance notes that make up NL1947. This is the one and only fragrance that lists tuberose as a note that I can tolerate. I actually want this bottle for my collection. I’ve never smelled anything like this and overall NL1947 is just one of those fragrances that keeps my mood at peace. I feel elegant wearing it. And that is always my goal.

Light airy powder soft floral. The opening is a very nice powder soft jasmine. I do not get any pepper out of this scent at all. Very grown fragrance. The tuberose comes in at the middle point and is just beautiful as well as the dry down into a pillow soft vanilla. Just gorgeous. I get about 5-6 hours from first application. Silage is amazing. The amount of fragrance for the price makes it worth it for me.

Wow! What a knockout! Spicy aldehydic floral opening with gardenia, rose, and pink pepper at the forefront, blooms into this absolutely incredible jasmine-ylang-vanilla heaven Powdery and sweet definitely dominate on the drydown too, perfect for when the weather is transitioning in spring or autumn. Sillage isn't intense, this is the kind of scent you lean in to catch whiffs. Will definitely be in rotation.

Not for anyone under the age of 50? Get that ageist shite out of here. This is a powdery Ylang lollipop. The florals take turns dancing on the skin on a heavy base of sweet Benzoin. Not a touch of soapiness which I love. I’m far from 50 and adore this fragrance. If you enjoy powdery floral fragrances (Voulez vou coucher by Kilian is very close but Dior does it better imo)

I think @Mellerouge has got it pinned. I love Amouage Lilac Love and most of the Narciso collection, and I love this perfume. This is being discontinued and I have stocked up. It is up there in my top 5! A beautiful, classy scent. Very addictive and understated. Just divine.

I'm so glad I got me a 250ml bottle of this before it disappeared, what a timeless classic beauty! I'll never forgive Dior for discontinuing this and fève délicieuse! It is just so classy! Reminds me so much of Chanel n5! It is like a CHANEL N5 flanker!

Such a pretty, gentle, uplifting floral, which though it wears close, has longevity. I get the ylang ylang and tuberose the most. A very gorgeous floral fragrance - not breaking new ground - but done very nicely.

Really beautiful but I'm really sad that this has a poor lasting power for its price. Lasts an hour on skin, three on clothes. I don't think I'll buy another Dior fragrance until they get their shit together.

It's a creamy powdery ylang ylang in a blanket of soft white florals. Sad that it's discontinued, but quite happy cause I'm one of the few who own it. Gatekeeping level 100, WAHAHAHAHAHAH

This wears super powdery on me, and doesn't last long. However, I bought it because I really just wanted it. I only got the 40mL, though. A beautiful resinous floral.

Well done Dior! So elegant, luxurious and everlasting. It's a take on old scents done in a more modern way. Last long but it becomes closer to the skin.

Why they killed this New look 1947 and replace with "New Look" I would never understand. That thing is like shit for me...

From the very start of its opening you can sense pink pepper a little dense which gives this smell a classy tone or shade. But then later it smells just clean. Just purely clean with all the white flowers. But somehow ylang-ylang brings this smell a little seduction. Thus you would only think this smell is approaching to your nose from a high class, captivating lady in the room. Yet they are either old or not knowing they smell old. When I think of this smell I vision Ajda Pekkan wearing it. And I believe it would sell thousands of bottles only if it was popular in 70s-80s. Also cannot tell its preferred seasons and daytime to wear, I think it would fit all occassions if you are old enough : )

Im so love hate with this.. some days itll smell incredible, unique, and very attractive and others itll smell like powder with a chemical note... it does have a talcum powder note to it but usually its very classy, daytime, clean,and balanced in a Doir Prive powdery ylang type of way. update one year later.. this really warms up on the skin, as I wore it today, I asked myself if it would be mistaken as a weird chemical smell vs a fresh clean beautiful scent which is always my battle. So I spray on my hand and as it settled down, the yang feels balanced warm and rounded, something original and unexplainable, a good frag for wearing a white T shirt in the winter.

I’m sad to hear Dior discontinued New Look 1947 and rebranded it as New Look with new notes. I received a sample bottle of the new one today and will have to see how it compares to 1947. This was one of my favorites in the exclusive line. It was a powdery, old-school vanilla with warm (yellow) florals in the background. I found it similar to Chanel No. 5 but in a more modern and less offensive way. I have a few wears left in my bottle. Guess I’ll have to use it sparingly, lol.

Smells like chanel no. 5. Very floral, aldehyde like, and has ylang-ylang, rose, and jasmine notes. Chanel does it better imo, and for a better price. Otherwise, I don’t see the point of such an expensive price tag when you can get much better floral or aldehyde perfumes for cheaper.

8.5/10. Spritely floral. Very pleasant. Slightly spicy. After 5 mins briefly disappears then resumes with many varieties of flowers complimenting each other. Violet with green leaves. Remains spritely with time and aldehydes come out on top. A little powdery later.

Jonhson & Jonhson baby powder expensive version :( not worth the price. I tried Dior Miss Dior edt and this one. Dislike both. So boring, plain.

Nice one but not a stunner. It’s a real classic oriental vintage vibe here. I quite enjoy the spicy opening combined with charming Ylang-ylang though it’s a little too powdery for my taste. But still a nice powdery scent, clean and fresh. The base notes are also beautifully sweet, also not too much for men IMO. Great sillage but does not last very long; 5-6 hrs on my skin This was a blind buy and it’s worth it.

It is so incredible sweet and suffocating! I feel most of the notes are not mentioned in the pyramid here. There must be praline, cotton candy, vanilla etc in there. Heavy blanket of sugar shock.

From the notes, thought I’d love this. I do not. Powdery white and yellow florals. Skews too powdery for me on my skin.

Straight old lady smell for me unfortunately

I installed a pop-up shop for a client in Parisian store Printemps Beauté - so I had lot of a time to smell Dior Maison line. I almost skipped this one but after reading a numerous comments and tried it on my wrist (and next day again), I decided to buy it. It is very elegant, feminine perfume, and I get the pink pepper in the top note (even definitely less strong than Azzedine Alaia ones). I am also not big fan of rose, but here it is nicely blended. It has a beautiful vanilla powdery elegant vibe making it a very classy perfume. Not way too classy with all the aldehydes which give sillage to some older signature perfumes (like l'Heure Bleue from Guerlain). More of a skin scent, yet vibrant, good for business meetings, also possible to wear it during summer. I think it is like a fine leather classic designer handbag that is beautifully manufactured piece but not drawing too much attention and rather sticking to a person who wears it. For me a perfect choice.

First you get powder, as the powder dies down the vanilla and benzoin are promènent along side a fresh creamy floral. Fresh, warm, feminine, sweet. It makes me feel like a goddess. After a while I thought. "This kinda reminds me of a food...?" And you know what it reminds me of? Powdered Donuts. Haha but with a hint of floral. I feel like if you like Amouage Lilac Love, Narciso Rouge, or Kayali Silk Santal, you will like this. It’s not the same but like the "vibe" is the same, the girl who would wear it is the same. Anyway, I got a 10ml from Royalty scents and I love it. I need to buy the full bottle, especially since I heard it’s discontinued.

A soft, fluffy angel's nest of a fragrance, with hints of classic bar soap—clean, creamy, and a little spicy. It opens very powdery and a bit sharp, but quickly dries down to something much more balanced and welcoming, like a sunny floral-vanillic cloud. Meanwhile the elegance of the rose and the resinous grippiness of the benzoin give it just enough structure to cohere around, without weighing it down. It's feminine, luxurious, and comfortable. Classy but unpretentious. Like stretching out under a fluffy down duvet, on a warm, sunlit morning at the start of an entire month of holidays.

This is a very straightforward fragrance as you might have expected from the notes. There isn't much to say about it. Few things from this fragrance. To me, it's very feminine. It was inspired by the luxury and femininity of dress and fabrics. It's a floral ambery fragrance which makes it classic or retro. The various flowers used in this fragrance are in harmony and balance. The combination of pink pepper and rose provides a fresh background to the scent, which contrasts nicely with its warm, ambery and resinous base. 7/10

Love love love !!!! Right now my new addiction. Classy , sexy , clean , soapy fluffy and musky , elegance ... I could sit and bathe in this and spray it from head to toe ! It’s very powdery and feminine to my nose. It’s a floral vanilla powder bomb , works all year around works day and night. It’s a great signature. It has a classic feel but not a dated one. Beautifully blended no notes stand out too much for me but rather a creation of white vanillic sweet airy powder is the end result. Heavenly !

I have and enjoy this perfume, but feel as though I can smell iris in it (which I generally love). The entry for the previous edition of this does list iris in the notes, but this one does not. I bought it from the Dior counter at Saks, so I don't think it is likely I got an older bottle. My suspicion is that the two versions of this listed on Fragrantica are the same even though different notes are listed.

This is a nice fragrance, though it’s far more powdery than I expected from reading the notes. For the price, I don’t think it packs enough punch—it’s gone in 20 minutes or so. To me it smells a bit like a more powdery version of Anais Anais or Fragonard by Fragonard. I like both of those as well, but they each last far longer than this one.

Does anyone know if Francis K has tinkered with this beauty? I noticed as a "new" fragrance on my country's Dior site... I have a decant of probably a 2022 or so version, before FK took over. I don't want to drop the money for a bottle, if it's a totally different fragrance from the decant I have. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

i dont know if this is just me...but do you remember how the Loreal's lipsticks were smelling back in the early 00's? this is the type of iris in here, powdery feminine sweet.Very delicate. On my wish list for 22 Spring season! in case anyone selling a partial bottle please DM. Within EU.

this reminds me of the times I went to the Dior exhibition in Melbourne and reliving Dior’s early moments as a fashion house. The bold jasmine and rose are there then later on, the scent moves with a benzoin that is quite remarkably oriental and classic, like the new look itself.

New Look 1947 was part of the original collection launched in 2011. What does this 2018 entry mean, was it reformulated? The original was a creamy white floral composition with benzoin and vanilla, very beautiful and radiant but still grounded. I hope they have not changed it.

Smells like dior boutique itself ! vintage gardenia , smooth ylang and cozy benzoin are the most prominent notes to my nose .. Captures the image of puff powder dusting on a vintage vanity .. similar vibes to caron perfumes but with dior's signature white flowers twist ..
