Oud Rosewood

Fragrances, like music are very evocative of memories of times, places, and scenes you have encountered during your life experience. Some fragrances take you on a journey. On first smelling Oud Rosewood in an instant I was transported somewhere... I had travelled over the sea to Bravos, gained entry to the House of Black and White and entered the Hall of Many Faces. A candle lit tomb in a gothic, medieval temple smelling of Incense, smoke, and centuries aged wood. If a scene had a smell, then "Game of Thrones Season 5: Episode #6 Clip - The Hall of Faces" would smell of Oud Rosewood. (search YouTUBE) Oud Rosewood has a similar DNA to Santal Noir however, it is less sweet and much spicier. It has a beautiful smokiness to it that I really love - it's like the smokiness in Santal Noir's dry down but better. This tips it more masculine than feminine for me. Update | I saw a youTUBE review where the reviewer said this was similar to Encre Noire a L'extreme and Gucci Guilty Absolute and thought of this as a dud. I watch his reviews regularly and value his opinion as I tend to have similar likes and dislikes, but respectfully, I can't agree with his opinion on this occasion. To my nose there is no close comparison to the 2 other fragrances - Oud rosewood has much better projection and silage and is of a much higher quality blend. Oud Rosewood is a big hit for me, I'd even go as far as saying it's probably one the best MCD releases to date, so much so that I bought 250ml to sit alongside my Oud Ispahan and Leather Oud. And the lesson is: Follow your own nose folks! ;) CONCLUSION | ★★★★★ Quite possibly my favourite MCD release!

This is one of the most unique fragrance I've ever smelt. The combination seems simple yet it brings a deep, dark and sophisticated vibe. If you are leaning towards a mature or formal style, this is definitely the one. The abundance of high-quality woody notes has both benefits and drawbacks: It's long-lasting and powerful, the transformation after spraying is absolutely phenomenal and beautiful, leaving an image of a successful man; however, it's also overpowering and offensive to some noses (so far I've received more complaints about smelling like medicine/dog poo rather than compliments lol). Definitely not a safe blind-buy. Nevertheless, you will not wear this in an attempt to get compliments, I see it more like a self-pleaser since wood is my favorite note. If you like oud or just woody scents in general, you may love it. Personally, I give this a 9.5/10. A very situational scent, but if you're a mature gentleman, you can surely pull it off.

Medicinal oud that smells a lot like bandaids. It is kinda off-putting but also intoxicating. But maybe I'm just a weirdo who enjoyed smelling bandaids as a kid though. You'd think spraying more would only make this worse but it changes the fragrance dramatically. It becomes more effervescent and woody. Wafts of fruit notes and a slight sweetness emerge. I find it stays fairly linear in the drydown just losing some intensity. Typical Dior with a refined elegance that is somewhat soft or ethereal. It isn't a constant assault on your nose but rather you catch brilliant wafts from time to time.

This fragrance is a contradiction. Oud and raspberry notes are often associated with punchy, strong, and masculine fragrances, but this one is subtle, light, and unisex. Sweeter fragrances are often associated with drug store body washes and cheap mall fragrances, but this one is decidedly niche and sophisticated. Some may call this fragrance boring, but I find it to be beautifully understated, one of the few ouds out there that I feel comfortable wearing to the office. If you like Oud Rosewood, I'd also try DS & Durga's Notorious Oud, which offers a similar balance of oud and sweetness.

My local dept. store had opened up a booth for the Maison Christian Dior offerings - how nice of them! I did a quick rummage-through of the line. There were several good ones but Oud Rosewood was the one that made me go WOW. You know a perfume is special when the first sniff gives you that mouth-opening sense of disbelief: what am I smelling, this is ridiculously good... It smells like oud, raspberry jam and AN ANIMAL. It's certainly not for everyone, and maybe I've been on a bit of leather-animalic mood this spring, but from the first impression I have to rate Oud Rosewood a love.

I understand the knee-jerk negativity to a degree, but I would urge people to tarry awhile. Upon initial testing, I was underwhelmed, too. Later, in my car, I began to catch whiffs of something extremely luxurious—probably the impression left by the oud. Now, Rosewood is my favourite perfume; it seldom becomes tiring. On the contrary, on occasion in the morning, I find it soothing and inviting—you want to smell more of it. It is a sexy scent, if you know what I mean. I used to prefer Santal Noire from the Dior line, but it lost its appeal after I discovered this one.

I don’t understand the comparisons to Santal Noir. This has oud and that has sandalwood and they smell different. The olfactory delight I get from this is from the oud. I am just reviewing a sample. It kept delighting me all day. I am also sampling Santal Noir on the other hand- that one is not for me. I am still searching for a sandalwood I love- Santal Complet is too sweet for me and not enough sandalwood and Santal33 smells cucumbery. But this Oud Rosewood is a simple, gorgeous, rosy oud that I want! It will be my first Dior Privé..

I must have been struck by a divine inspiration to order this recent creation of François Demachy without having tried it first, simply based upon my previous experience with his perfumes, as well as with the house of Dior in its exclusive range. This is a wonderful blend! It combines the best in Purple Oud and Oud Ispahan, plus a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it irresistible to me. A shade darker and less sugary than Oud Ispahan, it retains the peppery youthfulness of Purple Oud, and the result is exquisite.

Bandaids? Yeah I can kinda see that. It has an antiseptic quality to it. None of that fecal oud. The raspberry and oud, sandalwood, rosewood make me think of leather like TF's Tuscan Leather. However this leather is smooth and clean. The quince adds a slight spiciness and a hint of sweetness. Somewhat of an unconventional scent but there is a soothing and alluring quality to it. Glad to have a 40ml bottle of this. While I may only wear it occasionally I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Stunning fragrance, sweet and smooth, smoky and woody. It's sublime. I previously has Oud Isaphan and although I really did love the fragrance it was too exotic and too feminine leaning IMO for me to carry off. The rose was too heavy and although I loved it, I sold it. A couple of years later I came by chance, over a sample of this one and immediately fell in love! It fills the whole left by Isaphan, and with a scent profile I am happy to carry off !

A fragrance of contrast. Fruity fresh raspberry with oud and animal notes. When just smelling the atomizer, I get band-aid vibes. The opening is fruity and very pleasant. The dry-down is woody, oudy, and slightly leather-animalic, but still a little fruity. It is smooth rather than harsh, and very well-blended. The combination of notes go perfectly together in my opinion, and I feel good when I smell it. 7,5/10.

Wow, absolutely incredible This starts out with the woodiness similar to YSL M7 with some fruity raspberry, slightly less dry and a very clean smelling oud with that slightly medicinal value similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute. I'm not even a huge fan of M7 or Gucci Guilty Absolute but this takes facets from those fragrances and blends them incredibly well, it's such a beautiful aroma. 10/10

I've never been a big fan of oud-oriented scents, but upon testing this in a store I fell deeply in love with that kinda scent profile . Hrre in oud rosewood The fruity nuances juxtaposed with non-animalic oud intoxicates me every time that the scent hits my olfactory bulbs. Classy and posh as one might expect from Dior and also mysterious, but not overtly so. A big big love

You can definitely feel the slightly dirty oud in this one. I like oud ispahan but after spraying this on my wrist, it feels like I like this more than oud ispahan. Oud ispahan has that loud animalic oud in it whereas this one feels less animalic but there is still that dirty oud which I have smelt in some oriental oud perfumes. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection: 8/10

Very addictive to me, I’m surprised by it. Smells like something that I’ve smelt before, and am familiar with this scent profile, but I just adore this version of it, whatever is different about this. Fresh and soft petal like smelling from the roses and then just silky oud/woodyness. I can imagine how soft and comforting this would feel if it had a physical presence.

There are similarities between this and Oud Ispahan, the oud accord mainly, but I find this to be better to my nose. It lacks the harsh rose in the dry down and instead is more smooth throughout. The fruity elements are blended in well too. I don’t get anything animalic or funky If you like Ombre Nomad or Oud Maracuja, this might appeal to you as well

Tested this twice now and it is lovely, has a very strong santal noir vibe going and santal noir along with purple oud are my two favourite fragrances form dior. Still unsure if ill buy a full bottle and its only because its very similar to santal noir and i have a large bottle of that. Performance was around 8/10 hours with moderate sillage.

This gets better and better over time as you wear kt....it's actually a beast with crazy projection. One reviewer called it redundant so now everyone repeats that but it's actually quite a uniquely interesting blend that morphs thru the entire wear. Keeps me captivated all day thinking about it. really great release .

loooooove from the first sniff! can’t describe nor compliment it enough... this has become my new favorite from Maison Dior <3 <3 to me it smells like rose, oud & cardamom (although cardamom is not listed as a note but it could be one of the animalistic/spices notes). I’m head over heels! obsessed with this perfume <3

It’s very different from what I usually go for, but I LOVE wearing this to go to bed. So calming and soothing. (Not related to the smell itself) overall vibe feels like I’m wearing a nice silky robe in my west village apartment, looking down in the city view to finish up my hectic day working my PE job.

Luxurious with a capital L. Performance is not an issue at all, we've been spoiled by the top notch quality of Masion Christian Dior Collection. Fruity, rosey, and explicit ,yet not harsh, Oud and a very solid Woody base. Absolutely worth a try! 9/10 if it weren't for the ridiculous price tag.

I couldn't stand **Ombre Nomade**—it smelled far too animalic and barn-like to my nose. This, on the other hand, softens the leather beautifully with rose, creating a much smoother and more elegant composition. To me, it feels like a more refined and sophisticated take on Ombre Nomade.

the largest of the entire Dior private collection and the most underrated, this is my number 1 I had a 250 ml from 2023 it is a great compliment, a semi-fruity and deep animal leather, the Dimachy touch adds a family olfactory secret 10/10

Absolutely exquisite fragrance! Wonderful compliment to Dior Oud Ispahan. One spray to each side of the neck and one spray on the inside of each forearm. I ended up smelling the forearm all afternoon! Just fantastic!

Heavy, woody and sweet raspberries. Playful and masculine. Elegant and mature. This kind of fragrance demands a suit and tie and at least a couple of bodyguards. I like it but I don't like suits or ties.

My favorite one from the line. It is the most "high end designer" style rasberry+leather+oud. Its just smells nice and clean, but for some reason the animalic in it reminds me of my cat. 10/10 to me.

Rich. Dark. Boozy. Smoky. Woody. Seductive. Animalic. Slightly sweet, but no fruit to my nose. Smooth, blended to perfection. This one takes Oud Isaphan to task but takes the knee to TF Oud Wood.

Another Masterpiece by Demachy what a classy masculine Oud perfume absolutely love worth every scent one of my favorites in winter.

This review is an initial impression based off a sample from Dior. This is based off a single wearing on skin. I really like this. This is definitely a western take on oud. I haven’t smelled Leather Oud and it’s been too long since I smelled Oud Ispahan to draw any comparisons. When I first smelled this immediately thought of a few Tom Ford fragrances. Imagine a much drier version of Tom Ford Ombré Leather mixed with Oud Wood and that will give you a relatively clear picture of how this smells. Here’s a breakdown of the notes I can smell: Oud - I think it’s safe to say Oud Rosewood uses little to no real oud. The oud is a synthetic oud, but it is done much better than what I’m used to smelling from designers. At the drydown, the oud note smells kind of like a bandaid, but it’s much more pleasant than the medicinal bandaid-type oud you find in some Montales. Rosewood - The only reference I have for rosewood is the fingerboard on a few of my guitars. I do pick up that same smell in Oud Rosewood, only it’s much more amplified than what I smell when inhaling from my Fender’s fingerboard. Leather - I’m surprised leather isn’t listed as a note unless that’s what Dior means by animal notes. I don’t pick up any other animalics like civet, musk, castoreum, etc. The leather in this reminds me of the leather from Ombré Leather. It’s a smooth leather rather than Tuscan Leather’s abrasive, loud leather note. Raspberry - I get a touch of sweetness in this that must be the raspberry note. I don’t find this note to be a very authentic raspberry, but it’s the same type of sweetness you find in Tuscan Leather. The longevity and projection are better than some of the other Maison Christian Dior’s I’ve smelled like Feve Delicieuse, Ambre Nuit, and Bois D’Argent. I sprayed two sprays of Oud Rosewood on the back of my hand in the afternoon and I was catching whiffs of it throughout the day and I could still detect it into the next morning. I intend to spend some more time with this to see if it’s full bottle worthy. I already own Tom Ford Oud Wood, Ombré Leather 16, and Tuscan Leather so this may be a little redundant since I’d wear this for the same occasions as those scents; however, I really like Oud Rosewood so far and it’s just different enough that I could possibly see a spot for it in my collection. It will require a few more wearing a to make a final decision.

Oud Rosewood, my latest acquisition from the house of Dior, possesses a middle eastern scent profile that has been adapted for European sensibilities. One can envision a wealthy English gentleman residing in Dubai smelling this fragrance. It exudes opulence and luxury, yet it does not constitute a groundbreaking scent. There are other fragrances that it reminds me of, but it is not a direct replacement for any of them. When you first spray it on, it opens very woody, subtly complemented by a hint of raspberry fruitiness. However, this fruity note swiftly dissipates, leaving behind a predominantly woody and dry scent profile. The oud in this composition bears a striking resemblance to the oud used in Amouage’s Interlude Man and, to a lesser extent, Parfum De Marley’s Layton Exclusif. A delicate touch of sandalwood and rosewood is incorporated to temper the intensity of the oud, imparting a subtle floral undertone to the overall fragrance. Notably, although not explicitly mentioned, a base of leather is present underneath the woody notes. I assume that this is what the ‘animal notes’ in the note breakdown refers to. This underlying leather note evokes a faint resemblance to Gucci Guilty Absolute, a leather-dominant fragrance characterized by its dryness. The fragrance maintains this distinct profile throughout its duration. Regarding wearability, this fragrance is unisex and suitable for both day and night wear, in all occasions, and in any weather, except on extremely hot days. Regarding performance, my bottle bears batch number 4B01, which exhibits moderate projection, ideal for this fragrance. However, its longevity is limited to approximately six hours on my skin, which is a disappointment.

On my skin this is an absolute monster. It will not fade or disappear until i wash it off with lots of soap. I have this, Leather Oud (LO) and Purple Oud (PO) and i think this might actually be the "dirtiest" of the three - even more so than LO which is famous for being very funky. This one is VERY animalic and indolic after the initial fruity notes has disappeared. Where LO starts our funky but then settles in to something a bit more crowd pleasing this one keeps going strong. OR opens with a warm raspberry, a rather acidic quince and lots and lots of animalic funk. At some times it smells more of leather than even LO does. This opening slowly subsides and leaves a strong, woody and leathery dry down without end. In contrast to some people below i think this is very much in the same vein as LO and PO - they certainly share the same Dior-oud note and where PO is a bit drier and LO is a bit rounder than OR, the dry down of all three are fairly similar (except for the extra animality in this one). Performance is out of this world and the scent might not be for everyone (and certainly not for every occasion) but it is really lovely and surely makes a statement.

The first time I tried this fragrance was on my clothes in an office space. It has a pleasant and elegant scent, with almost no animalic note present on the cloth. The fragrance lasts all day, indicating good projection. Before trying it, I was skeptical about the fruity top notes, as mixing fruity notes with animalic, oudy, or woody notes requires high perfumery skills to create something pleasant. Demachy did an excellent job of blending the notes, and they are in harmony. The fragrance meets my high expectations from Dior's exclusive line. The second time, I tried it on my skin and the animalic leathery notes became more apparent. The animalic note reminded me of kind of animal skin, giving off a wild and rugged character. When worn on clothes and skin, it creates a complete fragrance, making you smell like a gentleman. And people in your close private space can smell your wild animalic character. Overall, this is a beautiful fragrance. 8.5/10

I tried this side by side with Oud Ispahan. On paper, I thought this was better and on skin initially, I thought Ispahan was better. Once I left the boutique, Rosewood became more of a skinscent and I had to put my nose close to the back of my hand to smell it and Ispahan was still projecting strong 4 hours later. That was until I was just going about my daily activities, typing on my computer, writing notes and other stuff. With every movement of my hand, I get strong wafts of Rosewood in the air around me. It’s like it creates a protective shield. I initially like Ispahan better but after the way Rosewood just spurts out out of nowhere like that so strongly, I am definitely getting it.

Dior Oud Rosewood (2020) - spiced animalic sandalwood - Almost nearing his term as Dior’s exclusive perfumer, #francoisdemachy creates a fragrance that culminates his journey in using oud, gourmand and leather accords. I would say that this is his most balanced oud & sandalwood perfume. Starts with a fruity Raspberry mixed with Ginger, Cardamom and Leather. This is rounded by a well-built Sandalwood heart with Rose & Jasmine, creating a creamy yet powdery & dusty vibe. I also get white musks and darker animalics used in careful proportions that create interest, projection and persistence.

This reminds me of both Tobacco Oud Intense and Ombré Leather with some hint of Falkar. Not the best oud but certainly has a good character. Certainly is cheaper than TF TOI and Bvlgari Falkar in term of per ml cost. Edit. The scent on my wrist was gone in about five hrs. The clothing spray lasted well over twelve hrs. BTW the Santal Noir vibe exists in this bottle.

Love this fragrance, on my top three Maison Dior offerings. A woody fruity smell you won’t be able to stop smelling. It’s a soft and nice smell kind of a mix of Oud Ispahan and Santal Noir. Scent: 8.5/10 Compliments: 8/10 Sillage: 8/10 Longevity: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.25 Buy it: YES

This is a very "clean", linear oud. It doesn't smell dirty, fecal, barnyard or anything like that. The fruity notes add a bit of lightness but they aren't prominent nor too sweet. There is something a bit leather-like about this.

There is a good familiarity to Leather Oud. Swap the leather for some woods, tone down the animalic and you get Oud Rosewood. I love Leather Oud but I was hoping for something different here.

I like this, however, i confess that it can be a little funky for a while, in the way that synthetic oud is. Lasts a long while and gets a good amount of compliments

A lot more likeable than Oud Ispahan. It is a drier oud, fruity blast in the beginning that smells quite medicinal.

This is essentially Purple Oud, with rose (plus a fruity note). Marvelous nevertheless.

This is nice but. For the price that is commanded the projection on this one is sub par. Let’s face it, if one is dabbling in Oud it is best to go niche. Designers have to cater to the masses. Oud does not have mass appeal. I am very, very critical of MFK. Oud satin mood does it so much better than this and more than words blows OSM out of the water. To compare it to this is the equivalent of a female stepping into the ring with a male. No contest. Once again this is nice but weak. If this appeals to you get your hands on any of the Maison Crivelli Ouds. All to notch.

i really hoped it would be sweeter and juicier because of the quice and raspberry, but there is just no sweetness at all. the oud is overpowering this composition, leaving almost no space for the rosewood. it's definitely woody, bitter and somewhat smoky, i almost get notes of birch tar in this. the only hints of rosewood are detectable after 4 hours and a shower, and they are very subtle. definitely not the smell of a wooden rosario that i was looking for and i don't apreciate it on myself, however if i caught a waft of it from a man, i think i would fall in love...
