Patchouli Imperial

Dior Patchouli Imperial opens with a strong projection of green, sweet, gourmand, and woody accords. The opening is fresh, classy, projecting, old-school, refined, and pleasant. The patchouli is the green and most prominent opening note, sharp, intense, very elegant note. Two or three steps behind are the rest of the notes. The bergamot and mandarin orange are noticeable but for a brief moment, they enhance and add a sweet citrusy touch to the green patchouli but their presence is short-lived. The cinnamon and coriander are the spicy and mild support notes, they come up as spicy-sweet, slightly woody, and warm, from the two of them, the coriander is more noticeable. The vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood, and benzoin create a mild sweet accord. The benzoin and amber are noticeable with their characteristic warm, sweet, and resinous accords that, in addition to the vanilla, give the fragrance a sweet gourmand touch balancing the intense green and sharp patchouli. The smoke is a projecting and enhancing note, it does not come across as incense, but as just a pleasant woody smoke touch. The rose and cedar are support notes, in the background, the cedar is noticeable, the rose is faint and almost lost in the background. The fragrance is very linear, the citruses are noticeable during the opening, but they fade away towards the dry down, the rest of the notes maintain their initial lineup. The initial projection takes a step down to moderate but the fragrance still feels intense. Once Dior Patchouli Imperial has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, green patchouli, resinous sweet amber, benzoin, smokey, and spicy coriander fragrance with woody, and sweet accords. The fragrance feels aromatic, classy, dated, delectable, dense, earthy, elegant, energizing, expensive, formal, green, heavy, herbaceous, high-quality, imposing, inviting, mature, natural, nicely-blended, old-fashion, resinous, refined, rich, sophisticated, sweet, unisex, versatile, woody, and very pleasant. Patchouli bu seride en sevdigim parfümlerden birisi. Elimde 2018 öncesi satilan patchouli de olduğu icin karşılaştırma yapmam kolay oldu. Eskisi daha topraksı ve baskin bir patchouli iken yenisi bu topraksı havasının yanına biraz yeşil hava eklemiş ve patchouli biraz geriye cekilmis. Daha ahir başlı bir parfum olmus. Eskisinin ilk 10 dakika içinde sizi patchouli ye doyuran havasi yenisinde yok ama bunda daha az ortaya çıkan patchouli ayni zamanda kalite hissini arttırıyor. Kalicilik konusunda eskisi cok iyi değildi, yenisi de farklı degil. Her ikisi de kullandıktan sonra önemli bir değişim göstermiyor. Eskisinde ilk 10 dakika sonrasındaki sakinleşme faslı vardi yedisinde bu yok be oldukca düz ilerleyen bir havası var. Ancak her ikisi içinde sunu soyleyebilirim. Halen piyasada satılan en iyi patchouli parfümlerinden birisi bu. Bence adini hak ediyor. Kalite hissi yuksek ve ağırbaşlı. Her zaman bu parfümün 2 kat yüksek konsantrasyonunu nasil olacağını merak etmişimdir. Eskisi muhtemelen insani biraz bunaltabilirdi ama yenisi bence inanılmaz güzellikte bir parfum haline gelirdi. Gençler sevmeyecektir bunu. Bence aşırı sıcaklar disinda her zaman kullanılabilir. Tüm gün kalabilecek düzeyde olmadığı için gün icinde 2 defa daha tazelemek gerekecektir.

I love the sillage of this perfume, it literally drives me crazy. The sillage is very vanilla, benzoin, and amber. The patchouli & bergamot is more apparent when smelled on the skin. I have to say I dislike the opening on the skin. I get a very smokey note for maybe the first 10 minutes, then it goes away. Your skin does smell like a bonfire for a bit. This may appeal to some, but I really dislike smoke smells. It makes it too masculine. However, this gets a high rating from me because the sillage and complete dry down are just immaculate. I just love vanilla and bergamot notes in conjunction in perfumes. It’s a very unique patchouli scent as well. Most patchoulis are too heady and resinous; this is quite intoxicating but very wearable. Sillage is amazing, it projects maybe 8-10 ft, but isn’t offensive like many other strong sillage perfumes. It really draws you in. Lasting power is good, 6-8 hours on me. Full bottle worthy for sure. I am saving up for some other fragrances right now so for the time being I got the 7.5ml bottle.

I sort of under rated this perfume when I first got my decant. I'm writing here because I do think/guess the Maison version has to be similar because what the hell can you do with patchouli. My first go to is wearing actual patchouli oil, at the moment I've got both a refined oil and a black iron oil. But to be honest they both smell like patchouli maximum. I put it on cotton patches in amongst stored clothes like apparently they used to do in the olden days. I absolutely adore raw patchouli and I don't care who knows it because I'm an old boomer hippie. I've got Lutens Borneo, gorgeous, but slightly more masculine, the Reminiscence version, rather warmly ambery. I took my decant of vintage L Labo P 24 and tipped a heap of natural black patchouli into it, damn wonderful even if a tad masculine for my nose. (P.S., do not really mix and you have to shake it). But, the old version of Patchouli Imperiale is my favourite. Patchouli perfection. The rumours of discontinuation are terribly worrying, please say it ain't so....🥺🥺🥺

I love this scent because there is no other perfume out there quite like it. On me, the patchouli is balanced the entire time by a watery top note, be it citrus or more like water/watermelon/honeydew. The patchouli is not that cheap, dirty one you smell up and down Haight Street; it's refined and fresh. The other surprise is the amber, which balances the patchouli from the bottom up. I usually loathe amber scents but in this fragrance it works in perfect three-part harmony with the melon and patchouli. Also, the packaging is timeliness, simple yet elegant. The bottle and cap feel as expensive as they are. Usually, I buy the smallest bottle of any scent since scents can go bad. In this case, I went for the big boy, as it looks so classic.

I think patchouli prominent perfumes (together with patchouli incense sticks) have become my new obsession. Patchouli Imperial was an accidental find but I immediately fell in love. It smells like wet towels left in a stale dingy basement and I can't get enough of it. Simply divine. It reminds me of Coromandel but without that Chanel ooomph-magic. The two don't smell the same but I feel like owning both would be a bit redundant. Btw Patchouli Imperial is definitely not discontinued (for now). I could find it at the Dior counter in my local department store as well as on the Dior website.

This fragrance has exceeded my expectations, a little sweet, a little spicy, a little smoky, a little resinous, very smooth, a little playful yet elegant. I love how harmoniously blended it is. I was not expecting to fall in love with this because I’m not a big fan of patchouli. 12+ hours on my skin, that’s impressive for me because my skin drinks up fragrances but yeah! I’m definitely getting a full bottle. Reformulated or not! This juice is legit. Nothing but love from me.

Nice patchouli! I see Coromandel in the similarity list: no, not at all similar but much better (fresher and stronger overall -- just sprayed it on the other hand to compare). Very fine patchouli in Boucheron's Oud de Carthage is even better and more luxurious than here, maybe also a little weaker but roughly twice cheaper. Despite these comparisons, I like it anyway and consider it good.

Dior Patchouli Imperial is my favorite from the Privee collection. It's a dressy amber woody fragrances with spices and of course, patchouli. It's unisex, leaning masculine. It's sexy, slightly sweet but it's a punch in the nose in the best possible way. Performance is great - above average longevity and strong sillage.

Dior is still selling 8.5 oz on their website. I just got one. It’s the best $320 I’ve spent. It’s a magnificent unisex scent that will lean whichever way you want it to! Sad to see it be an exclusive for Paris if Rumors are true (I think they are) 9.4/10

This is IMO the best perfume humanity has ever crafted. Im outraged DIOR discontinued it while keeping shitty others on there private line I bought two 250ml bottles because this is magic in a bottle OMFG

Patchouli Imperial is a true chameleon of the perfume world. It opens with a liquorice-like bubble, quickly transitioning in spiced citruses. Coriander tempers bergamot, at times sounding almost medicinal, until the mandarin orange comes in with its juicy sweetness, but not overly so. I would say that most notes of this composition are on the "dry" side. There is no creaminess, oiliness or juice. Spices and wood keep the aroma sharp and laconic. This is a unisex scent, leaning towards masculine, but I can see a woman in a custom 3-piece suit wearing it just as comfortably. Patchouli and woods are opened in this perfume with impressive skill and realism. Cedar is young and slightly boisterous, sandalwood is aromatic and dignified, and patchouli bringing the green-spiced freshness to the combo. There is a whiff of smoke, as if blown past on the wind, and gone. Amber plays well with cedar giving it its golden-ochre tint and adding to the spicy overtones. The rose barely skims the surface, relegated to the back seat, and used to make the composition softer than it would have been otherwise. What is truly amazing is how different notes keep playing against each other, never settling in uniform blend. This is not a linear scent, and it is what I like about it the most, - the complexity and of aromas and colours that keep changing on the skin, reminiscent of a brilliantly cut gemstone's facets dispersing light's rays in multitude of hues and undertones. Projection is strong and sillage impressive. Patchouli Imperial is not the one to retreat into the skin within an hour or two. It projects a confident and powerful personality and will not be dictated to, but is the one who sets the rules. It is my perfume for business meetings and long walks of contemplations and strategies. I do not reach for it often, but when I do, - it stays true to its nature and projects an image of Jack Nicholson in China Town - charismatic, irresistible and dangerous.

So, every once-in-a-while, I go through phases whereby I wish to expand my go-to fragrances. Patchouli, rose, oud, incense, musk, jasmine, smoky, etc blends (unisex or leaning towards the feminine side) are what I crave. I read some stellar reviews about this fragrance, so I decided to purchase a sample. As others have stated, this fragrance performs exactly as promised. For me, it is a fairly linear, straight-forward, clean, more "green versus dark" patchouli fragrance that lays against a gently composed sandalwood back-drop. Period. No hippie-level noted here...not dirty, not earthy, not grungy, IMHO. I dislike "hippie" patchouli smelling stuff...you know the oily, resinous, dark, heavy, heady, dreary stuff...yuck. However, I do prefer patchouli fragrances that are a bit more complex, moody, dark and interesting than Patchouli Imperial. For me, Patchouli Imperial is a bit too fresh, chipper, clean & bright...not exactly what I look for in a patchouli fragrance. And as others have also stated, while this fragrance is attractive and appealing, it also seems to go "dull," or "dead" after a while. On me after an hour or so, the fragrance just "dropped." I say for the "general masses," Patchouli Imperial is extremely wearable. I prefer the above mentioned notes combined in a more complex way, a way that packs more of a punch. For me, I prefer patchouli blended fragrances that are a bit more "niche-y." Patchouli Imperial is a great choice for someone who opts to wear a reserved, refined & tamed patchouli fragrance. Nice enough...just not for me!

Patchouli Imperial is a strange name, because there is nothing really about patchouli that I would consider 'imperial' smelling. I love patchouli for what it is, woody, earthy, raunchy, leafy, and it is at full display in Patchouli Imperial, dense, dark, cloaked in an benzoin amber veil in the usual attempt of producing chocolate undertones. I am strongly reminded of Patchouli Reminiscence, a 70s chocolatey patchouli fragrance with strong balsamic and vanillic elements, of course only in structure not in quality, the Dior feels much more intense and high end with much better performance. People often mention Reminiscence as a Coromandel alternative, but I find it a closer substitute for this one. Honestly I find it a bit redundant, there are just so many chocolate patch ambers in the market currently, but if you want a heavier, denser, darker, earthier version of the Coromandel genre this is a good option.

Wore this today, and refreshed my sprays as I record my thoughts. Very refined and smooth. Although this doesn't have big transitions and feels somewhat linear, the patchouli itself has some layers. It opens up big and earthy. Patchouli smells like it has some leather, vetiver, and even orris nuances. It kinda reminds me of the smell of baseball equipment when I was a kid. Specifically, the balls themselves and mits that have been used on the field. There's some smokiness to it as well. Overall a great patchouli scent and the drydown is really, really good. Scent 7.6/10 Performance 7/10

On paper the opening smells like moldy wood quite similar to Coromandel that I really loved, but on my skin it is all musty clothes and paper. Im familiar with the smell as my grandma is a bit of a hoarder. This smells like her trunk full of her children’s baby clothes, pictures and letters. This stage lasted 4hrs in my skin. Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait for the drydown on my wrist as I had to bathe my cat. The creamy amber-patch drydown on paper lasted for a week. I enjoy wafts of it from the paper on my bedside table. Might be full bottle worthy for that delicious drydown.

Do not believe this is close to Coromandel, I get a simple vetiver/patchouli combo which comes off as a bit smoky and dusty. It's a nice scent but not something I would be on the hunt for. I will use my decant happily and use it for going to the museum or just a chill evening with some family or friends. This is not potent on my skin atleast, so if you are looking for a calm skin-scent that still is smoky and earthy, give this a shot.

The drydown has similarities to Coromandel. The sweet white-chocolate patchouli accord is prominent. With Coromandel I smell it throughout the life of the fragrance, whereas with Patchouli Imperial, I can only smell it in the later stages of the scent's evolution. Other than this, Coromandel and Patchouli Imperial are quite different and not redundant at all.
