Poison Extrait de Parfum

Like many fragrance-lovers in the 80s, I wore Poison (amongst others), and had practically all formulations of it, from EDC to Esprit de Parfum, as well as the bath products. The esprit de parfum, in particular, was beautiful, dark and potent, almost dripping with a deep, musky sweetness. Now thanks to IFRA, all fragrances are doomed to banality and I do not expect a different fate for my favourites. I bought a bottle of the new extrait de parfum with admittedly low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. It is not the same as vintage Poison, of course, but it is close enough for me. I would say that it captures the spirit of the original reasonably well - and much better than most reformulations, to be honest. It is slightly brighter and lighter than the original, but the deep, musky sweetness is there, even if it is not as dark as in the original. My favourite part is the incredible tenacity of this Poison - I could still smell it faintly on my hand the next day (and after multiple hand-washings). There is a slight soapiness in the top notes but that dissipates after a while, and the fragrance deepens and improves over the hours. It was a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend that any Poison or tuberose/floriental devotee give this new extrait a try. Really gorgeous flacon too.

Definitely Poison. Lighter and sweeter with a vanillic drydown. Less spice. This is a whisper of what it used to be, but beautiful nonetheless. Packaging is reminiscent of the vintage delivery. The bottle is deep shades of purple, however the juice inside is clear. The vintage was syrupy and thick with a darker color. I am thankful to have this available still as it is a beautiful interpretation. Longevity: 3/5 Sillage: 3/5 I enjoy this version of Poison, and will most likely repurchase when I use up the bottle I have currently. I like to wear this to bed as the drydown is softer and less 'loud' than the vintage. I was hoping to keep the wax seal intact, but when I opened the box upon delivery the bottle was out of it's little spot in the cardboard and was tipped over. Some of the wax seal had broken away. Dior please put tissue paper or something inside to keep it secure. Or velvet like the 1980s. :)

Fully disagree with 1guy1dog3cats' review below. I have seven 1oz tester bottles of Poison Extrait de Parfum dating from 2013 (the release date here on Fragrantica is wrong) to 2018. The 2013 and 2018 bottles are 100% indistinguishable. Sounds like something may have gone wrong in his batch, unless there was some major reformulation between 2018 and 2019. The "toothpaste" note, which I personally think is gorgeous, is evident in every single Extrait bottle I own. It's nothing new. Poison Extrait is not intended to be a more intense version of the original Poison. It is a flanker that happens to be in parfum concentration and is almost a completely different scent altogether. Blame Dior for their confusing marketing. If you want a more intense version of OG Poison, then track down the Esprit de Parfum or the 1980's Pure Parfum.

This is so precious! One can tell that the priority was to use as many natural essences as possible. So the Tuberose has this bubble-gummy creaminess to it. The vanilla and rose add some surprising soapy and camphorous sweetness with the spicy woods featuring coriander, cedar and some aroma-chemicals that make it unmistakably a fruity, honeyed and ever so polarising Poison. Then, of course the beautiful bottle that I adore, looking all cute in my display. I like the ritual of dabbing the fragrance that is close to the skin and so intimate it really is designed for my own pleasure - it’s to enhance our moments of self love through a cerebral focus on luxury and beauty. Very hygge indeed! 10/10

I have had my bottle of 'Poison' since 1990 and it is still amazing. I keep it 'for nighttime wear only' as it is far too strong and tantalizing to wear in public or during the day-time. Its scent may be a little reminiscent of the 'essence of grape Koolade' in a bottle but it still makes me swoon every time I put it on. Nothing else smells like 'Poison' or works its 'Come hither...' message the way that it does. Dab a little behind your ears and put on something lace-y and see for yourself. This may be another of the classic perfumes that has been watered down over the years like so many others but if you can find a older bottle try 'Poison' and see if you can resist its message!

To me, this smells like a weaker, softer and more basic version of Poison, it's not as dark, gothic or complex. The corriander is nice and spicey, however the iconic plum isn't present. After 2hrs, the smell settles into a subtle vanilla - a very different dry down to the original Poison. The performance is very mid, if you want something stronger, the Espirit De Parfum is the most intense fragrance in the Poison line. I still love this regardless, but it's not much of a loss if you dont get a chance to own this. The bottle and packaging is stunning tho♥️♥️

I still have 3 bottles of the "Esprit de Parfum" from back in the day, not sure if they smell alike. But thanks Dior for bringing the 80s back. Bring the 60s and 70s back too please! -AlmondBreakfast-

I love it when someone writes a review and absolutely Nails the description for me!! I have been blind buying a lot of fragrances lately and it’s occurred to me (when I’m not sure of a fragrance) that I may have a bottle that’s turned... being a blind buy, I never know what it’s supposed to smell like! So my mini of Vintage Poison has arrived and I carefully put a dab on my wrist... I know this fragrance – I remember it from forever ago but I can’t place it... I just know it’s familiar. I’m not sure if I like it though – it’s not unpleasant but I’m not loving it at this stage... I start reading through Fragrantica reviews and ‘Bam’, Chiquis has nailed it for me ‘Coriander and Grape Cough Syrup’!!! Hehehehe... not the most flattering description but the Grape cough syrup is exactly what I’m getting! Such a great description!! Another reviewer described Midnight Poison as a refreshing mix of bug spray and eucalyptus and I completely understand that too! I can’t imagine myself falling in love with the original Poison but I’m pleased to have it in my collection. My pick of this fragrance line is still definitely Hypnotic Poison.

It shouldn't have been called "Extrait de parfum" but "Ombre de parfum". My mother wore this fragrance for years in the late Eighties and it reflected her temper to perfection, flamboyant and explosive! I recently bought Poison Extrait de Parfum thinking that the olfactive bomb would bring back memories from my childhood... Well, it just brought me back to my laundry room, it smells exactly like fabric softener. This Extrait (which should be the strongest concentration and long-lasting) is sheer, soapy, oddly airy and last but not least: it smells cheap, gosh it's awful. Needless to say that I barely recognize the original Poison at all... Back in the days, Bill Slater, senior vice president of Dior in New-York stated: “With Poison, we wanted to say something shocking in all languages”... Today, the only risk you take owning the Extrait is that your granny borrow it from you... Shocking, indeed...

Beware, Fragrantica users! Some of the reviews on this page are for other versions of Poison, not the extrait released by Dior in 2014. It seems that several observations below pertain to the esprit de parfum or the rarer pure parfum that began appearing in the mid-‘80s. This review is for the 2014 extrait de parfum, with my 15 mL bottle sporting batch code 9M01 (production date December 2019, according to Check Fresh). Let me begin by praising Poison in general. I fell in love with the current EDT formulation a few years ago, and I’ve only become more enamored after acquiring the scent in its vintage forms: EDC, EDT, esprit de parfum, and pure parfum. Poison is one of my all-time favorites, and I treasure each bottle as though I were Gollum and they, the One Ring—my precious(es)! So, with that said, I recently purchased the extrait de parfum directly from Dior. My excitement was palpable—I even paid extra for rush shipping! When it arrived, I carefully removed the baudruchage, keen to preserve the cute little CD wax seal adorning the bottle. (You know, the ritual of experiencing a long-awaited new prize!) Then, wiggling off the tiny glass stopper, applying the liquid to flesh... And I was BAFFLED! Where was Poison?! My nose could only detect a mentholated note over vanilla. Others below have described it as mint or toothpaste. None of the dark plum, tuberose, or incense that Poison is known for—i.e., NOT Poison. Only after a few hours could I begin to detect something akin to Poison-ness. Imagine a deep well. At the bottom, down deep, lies Poison. All the way up? That menthol/mint/toothpaste, similar to a toned-down Tubéreuse Criminelle in its opening or the minty greenness in Mugler’s Aura. Removing any association with Poison, I do admit that I enjoy the scent. There’s a freshness to it that wears close to the skin for many hours, but since when has Poison been described as “fresh” or “wears close to the skin”? The juice is quite oily, indicative of a high percentage of perfume oils, though this extrait is oilier than others I’ve worn. The packaging, bottle, presentation—all of it is gorgeous. It’s to-die-for. I just wish I could say the same for the extrait itself. This Poison is not to-die-for. In fact, it’s what may be dead. ETA: So I ended up returning my extrait to Dior and buying an older one from a fragrance friend. That bottle was initially purchased when the extrait first appeared on the market in 2014 (batch code 4X01, production date October 2014). SO MUCH BETTER. It's rich and dense, but less opaque than the '80s esprit de parfum. The menthol note, overpowering in the 2019 formulation, is noticeable, but toned down, providing a fresh lift that's very day-friendly. The scent is recognizably Poison, but a chic, modernized take on an old favorite. I'm so happy to have this in my collection.

This was a discontinued Poison fragrance. It was essentially the same as the original vintage miniature eau de parfum. They were both dab-on splash bottles. They were very oily, syrupy and strong scents to wear as evening cologne. I used to wear it when I went out on dates in Manhattan about 4 years ago. I have a long and loving relationship with Dior and I have worn all their fragrances for women. The extrait was a pure parfum and as such it was powerful stuff. I applied it mainly on my wrists sometimes on the sides of my neck. The scent has the same DNA as Poison except it has additional spicy touches of coriander and a giant floral note of tuberose. The tuberose is very fragrant and strong and similar to the tuberose in Giorgio Beverly Hills. Both Poison and Giorgio Beverly Hills come from the same period when tuberose fragrances were big. Smells exotic, elegant and very nocturnal. It almost seemed like a flanker that could have been called Poison Night, whereas the original Poison was to be worn in the day time. This scent is very seductive and smoky. This is also reminding me of the new Poison Girl with the major difference that the new Poison Girl has a lot of vanilla and this has a lot of tuberose and spicy coriander. But this one too has vanilla and it's very noticeable. However the vanilla has been tamed and is not ruining it for me. This is a very beautiful well balanced vanilla with tuberose. I would never wear Poison Girl because I loathe the hype surrounding it I don't like the smell and I don't like that it's become popular when it's the most juvenile and cheap smelling of all the Dior fragrances. When compared to the first Poison and this version you can see the difference. It's like Pepsi and a French wine from Bordeaux. Such a shame this is not out there anymore. However they still do sell miniature Poison bottles from the 80's on ebay. If you get one of those you'll experience this scent as they are very similar.

As a loulou enjoyer, i must say these two are quite similar. Yet poison extrait has a way more pronounced ‘pissiness’ and camphoraceous aspect (that is very reminiscent of toothpaste but not quite like mint). The notes dont say enough about the composition, since this is very complex just like the original poison. Incense, powder, oriental lilies, tuberose, vanilla with an added sharpness and spice. Not as plummy as the original, yet sweet and bubblegummy. The drydown is where the similairy with loulou ends. Loulou is much drier, woodier and more incense focused. Theres a pronounced lily note in loulou that i find very rarely in perfumes. Poison extrait dries down focusing on plastic and sharpness, a bit stomach churning really. The tuberose in here is basically pure bubblegum. The color that comes to my head is a neon blinding magenta. I rly liked the opening but the drydown makes me sick. And i guess thats the point. Not everyone could pull off something like this. Yet i also find it a bit silly and childish sometimes. Like a thoroughly chewed bubblegum thats stuck on a ball in a ball pit with boogers. Sorry but this is a pass

Just purchased a very rare 1 oz bottle tester I might add because one ounce bottles are not available for sale but I purchase the extrait of the new formulation of poison and all I can say is if you know the Vintage poison please please please do not pick up the extrait. I could bathe in vintage poison it is my all-time favorites and has been since it came out but I can tell you after having smelled this new formulation extrait it has almost ruined the Vintage poison for me I now detect notes in the Vintage that just almost turn my stomach and that is due to the horrific encounter I had with this new extrait. I'm just talkin from my experience but I will say it is somehow strange very strange to me that smelling this new extrait has altered not in a good way my love for vintage poison. I hope I can get back to where I was with my vintage but for right now I almost cannot take it and it makes me very very sad. If anybody is looking to buy a very very rare when I was bottle of the new formulation poison extrait send me a message

I would compare it to the current EDT, because there is nothing in common with vintage Poison. I got a 30 ml Tester Spray of the current pure parfum. The start is pretty green with peppery/coriander notes and a strong toothpaste/plaster feeling blended with mint adn spices. It's loud and fresh at the same time. A bit medicinal. The heart is a blend between the spices, tiny tuberose, soapy plum and vanilla. The base is almost the same but watered down with more vanilla, sad. Longevity is good and sillage is poor for me, it's not a bomb and the toothpaste note just kills It. When you got the mint/plaster note it's too late, you can't ignore it. Definitely an insult for what it was, but still funny if you want to wear a friendly, light Poison. Current EDT is far better and it's the closer version to the original.

The Poison Extrait is very similar to the current EdT, but it also holds a candle to the vintage. I have a vintage edt and a sample of the espirit de parfum - I honestly believe they all hold strong similarities and that Dior did a decent job of reformulating. Its not the same, and not as complex but the feeling is there Now - this version of current Poison is much deeper and tuberose heavy than the current EDT. It is Poison again. It lasts quite a long time and makes a good base for many different fragrances including, believe it or not, Chanel's Antaeus. Is it worth the money? Not really, sadly. It does last much longer than anything else in their mainstream collection tho... and potentially smells the best. Not sure on this yet. Very soapy as mentioned below, but that doesnt ruin it for me yet

I LOVE Dior poison ! yes I am a man and I do wear Dior Poison. just apply it lightly, one spray at an arm's distance away from your body then walk into the perfume mist is enough to last all day. The bottle I got was the new reformulation version (made in 9-2017). Even tho it's not the same as the original from the 80s, I still think it captured the spirit of "Poison" pretty well. Don't be scare guys, you can definitely wear Dior Poison, just very lightly! I've received many compliments from both men and women and no one ever point their fingers at me saying "OMG you are wearing a women's perfume", instead they all wondered what's that mystical scent that smells sooo good! Dior Poison is definitely an Unisex fragrance!

Extrait de Parfum... nice, very nice. Real Poison? No. The current EdT is a waste of money if you look for that glorious Poison of the '80s. It's not just about intensity and longevity. The whole scent is banalised, pleasant, but not for the nostalgic. This Extrait came for partial relief. It smells much stronger and longlasting than current EdT, yet close to skin and it features beutiful floral notes with dominant tuberose, but... it also smells soapy. When did Poison become a soapy one? A nice perfume, but not dripping mysterious juices. I like this version, when no vintage is available, but the price is not fair. This should be a decent current EdT and cost half its price.

Peta22 : Just wanted to say that I have purchased numerous minis of supposedly vintage parfum and only 1 out of a handful was real. Since that experience (and another batch of fake Fracas minis) I never purchase minis anymore. You will have much better luck trying it through a reputable decanter. I am running low or I would offer you a decant of mine. As close as I have come to a signature scent, I have been wearing (the vintage) it since it first came out years ago. Love it.

There is NOT a 30 ml tester in the Extrait. It's sold in one size and one size only, 15ml, tester or not. In fact I've never even seen a tester of this. Not saying there aren't some out there, but..........

I Have an Original 1992 Poison Eau De COLOGNE...I wonder if this "Extrait" would even compare to that?!
