And before I properly see him - there it is. Clean, sharp, unmistakable. A line cut through warm night air. I almost smile to myself. Of course it is. Sauvage. The one everyone knows. The one people roll their eyes at, then recognise on instinct before they've finished the sentence. Overworn, over-discussed, impossible to ignore. For most people, it feels like a shortcut - something chosen because it works, not because it says anything. I should dismiss it. But I don't. Because distance is one thing. Proximity is another. I move closer, slow enough to feel the shift. Bergamot sharpens as I enter his space - bright, almost metallic, like cold light hitting skin. Precise. Engineered. Clean to the point of abstraction. Then the warmth underneath starts to rise. Ambroxan - dry, woody, faintly smoky - pulls everything down into the body. It doesn't bloom dramatically or unfold in layers. It just locks in, responding to heat, to movement, to breath. I thought I knew this scent, I think. Half to him, half to myself. And standing there, I realise - I was wrong about it. Because here it isn't the same scent I've passed a hundred times on the street. It's closer. More contained. There's a moment where the space between us narrows without either of us really deciding it. The scent shifts - not compositionally, but physically. Skin, heat, salt in the air. This is a bergamot and pepper dream. I'm a woman. The modern industry tells me that I should just stick to my usual female lane with rose, vanilla, sweet berries, dainty-but-exquisite white florals and white musk. So why am I experimenting with men's fragrances now? Bergamot and pepper. That's why. Bergamot is one of my favorite notes to cut through high summer heat, humidity, and odor, and unfortunately many brands are diluting or even removing their bergamot with cheaper, short lasting citruses. These citruses smell wonderful in the opening, but then dies down quickly in less than 1 hour. Without the strong presence of bergamot, cedar, patchouli or pepper notes to carry citrus through, it just dies. This reduction of bergamot is especially true for women's summer fragrances recently, where citruses don't last long anymore and women today anyways are now gravitating more towards sweeter and inoffensive fragrances (I am also guilty of this). But I remember the old days where women weren't afraid of bold, bergamot forward, strong woodsy and peppery fragrances that would easily last 8-10 hours. But that has become more of a memory of the past. The 80s are gone, and they took the body with it. Hence, I've decided to venture into male fragrance territory for the modern day. Sauvage defies the awful modern trend of skimping out on body and longevity, and brings bergamot, pepper and "woodsy" notes back to the fore front where it belongs and it remains, for more than 6 hours. I sprayed 2 sprays of Sauvage EDT 2 days ago on a test strip and it is still there today. It still shares the same core Eau Sauvage DNA, but without venturing too deep into the "1960s-babershop-aftershave" territory. The ambroxan is ok, it does smell quite synthetic in this at first, but then quiets down a bit. After 3-4 hours, the florals really open up and smelt absolutely amazing. For this reason, I might just end up buying a bottle for myself when I have to do outdoor work in the summer.

Well, I don’t even know what to start with. I think that all opinions about this fragrance have been already said, and this review is more for myself, rather than the community First of all, let’s all agree that it’s the legend. I believe 99% of people will remember only two fragrance ads: 1 million, and the one with Johnny Depp who was dying hot while building the whole identity for this masterpiece. Ask a guy to name a women’s fragrance, and he would say Chanel num.5. Ask a girl to name a men’s fragrance and... You know the answer The composition itself is pretty simple: bergamot that is half sweet, half sour, tons of pepper, famous ambroxan - all of artisan quality. This is the most generic composition of a blue fragrance. I believe the sauvage is the one who is responsible for the hype of citrus, especially bergamot, and pepper profiles that I love so much. I mean, we all love them so much The performance is great for an EDT, and stays easily on the skin for 7-8 hours, and 3 to 4 hours being loud “HEY, YALL, I’M HERE” By the way, so amusing to watch women’s reactions on this one: - Oh, I love this smell. It’s sooo good - Glad you enjoyed it! It’s Dior sauvage - OH, HELL NO! My ex had sauvage and I hate him!!! Girl, just admit that the fragrance didn’t become worse due to your bad boy ex, that you likely still in love with It can’t be offensive, but it’s daring and bold. It’s fresh and clean, but sharp and masculine. It’s daily, casual, night, date, clubbing, winter, spring, summer, fall. It’s that one fragrance that you’ll grab in a rush, and the one you’ll take your time to apply it and appreciate the composition. It’s THE fragrance Sauvage can be dull, boring, common, but I don’t know any single person who thinks that it’s bad. It’s the victim of its own perfection. No soy alguien que lleva mucho en este mundo de los perfumes, pero he olido una cantidad enorme de todo tipo, diseñador, nicho, ultra nicho y árabes. Y mi razón de comprar Sauvage fue porque me gusta Sauvage, es un gran perfume, revolucionario? En su época lo fue, ahorita no lo es y eso no le quita lo buen perfume que es. Esta sobre hateado, en verdad quienes dicen que huele horrible o que le tiran por x o y razón simplemente están repitiendo una opinión una y otra vez. Claro, no todos tienen el mismo gusto, pero tirarle a un perfume solo porque es famoso es ridículo. Si eres nuevo en el mundo de las fragancias, te gusta simplemente o quieres experimentar con Sauvage, compralo, y haz tu propia opinión, no hagas caso de aquellos que se sienten superiores por tirarle en internet. El 90% de la gente no usa perfume, y este aroma ya no es tan usado por la gente, por lo que, te aseguro que no oleras como la demás gente. Personalmente me gusta más el EDP, pero tengo este porque el aroma no es muy diferente y encontre el EDT de 200ml a precio del EDP. Este batch es reciente y me fue bastante bien. Proyección muy buena, de dos a tres horas irradiando aroma, se asienta pero luce en ambientes abiertos, donde el aire es tu mejor amigo, la estela puede llenar pasillos. La duración no es tan buena como la gente dice que fue en los primeros batchs, pero tampoco tan mala como los que compraron en temporada de pandemia. 7 horas te puede rendir sin problema y en algunas ocasiones puede que te lleguen rafagas o que alguien te lo chulee pensando que ya no huele. No recomiendo que te bañes en él, ya que el ambrozan puede generarte fatiga olfativa y creer que no esta ahí, y la pimienta puede ser molesta para la gente y picarle la natiz si estas en ambientes cerrados. Creeme, el perfume esta ahí, si hueles, no busques reaplicar cuando no lo necesitas.

If I could only own one fragrance to cover virtually every situation, this would absolutely be in consideration. Score: 8.5/10

A timeless masterpiece. I know this has been overdone and overused by a lot of people but honestly, this is, in my opinion, still something you could definitely wear in the year 2026. It opens up bright, fresh, and a little metallic but in the best possible way. At first, I was hesitant to buy this due to the negative implications of many people about this fragrance but after finally giving in and actually trying it out for weeks, it's definitely a powerhouse. I've already gotten a few compliments wearing this from strangers which is definitely a bonus. I have a 2025 batch of Sauvage EDT and still, it's DEFINITELY a powerhouse . At first, I thought I had a weak batch or like the new reformulation has definitely made its performance worse, but then after trying it out a few weeks, I was just getting noseblind for how STRONG this fragrance is. Don't let it fool you, you'll definitely get noseblind after 10-25 minutes, but you're still projecting so loudly. I got 4+ hours of strong projection/sillage from this. After that, it definitely tones down into something people could still smell you within talking distance. it lasts around 7-10 hours on me then it's entirely gone so definitely worth it. This fragrance is known for being AGGRESSIVELY loud and it's true. If you're going to be wearing this, definitely take it easy on the trigger. i suggest 2-3 sprays at most during the summer. Tested and tried going 4-6 sprays, that was a mistake.

It’s a complete success story with its fresh opening, peppery kick, aromatic heart, and woody touch. The Impact: It has dominated the market since the day it was released. It’s the king of the room, not just for me, but for anyone who values a great blue fragrance. My Journey Loyalty: I’ve already finished a 60 ml EDT and a 100 ml EDP. Right now, I only have a 3 ml decant left just to sniff it once in a while, but I’m still obsessed. I feel like I need a 200 ml bottle to spend more good days with this loyal friend. The "Everyone Wears It" Myth: While it was true 5 years ago that everyone was wearing it, I feel like people have moved on to other trends. But its true, loyal friends never left. It’s a timeless classic that still holds its ground.

There is nothing wrong with this fragrance. You guys expecting every Dior release to be an iconic legend need to get off your high horse. Did Dior come steal your precious vintage Fahrenheit or Dior Homme Intense and replace it with Sauvage? No. Those other fragrances are still there. Go enjoy them and quit treating Fragrantica like reddit and bringing in the downvote brigade. I don't see anyone complaining about the other Dior men's fragrances that weren't ridiculously amazing (Jules, Higher, Dune). Anyway. This is a nice smelling, clean, fresh fragrance. Dior has a winner with this one, I can see it easily becoming a best seller. I know Dior believes this, too. I don't think they'd pony up for Depp if they didn't. It DOESN'T smell like Bleu de Chanel. (Which, by the way, everyone said was boring/sucked and is now one of the most recommended fragrances for guys who want just one.) It smells like citrus, spicy woods, and a touch of a musky character from the ambroxan. I put this on almost 8 hours ago and can still smell it well. Bottom line. Smell it for yourself. You might actually like it. If you don't... well hey, more for me.

Let the haters hate while the ladies ask to sniff your neck again! • It still sells in droves for a reason: it works, it's enjoyable, it's easy to wear, it's sexy, and the ladies really dig it! • Different vibe from YSL Y EDT (more youthful, easiest to wear) and Bleu de Chanel EDT (most dressed up, professional). • Sauvage sits somewhere in the middle, with more spicy "oomph!" than Y, but it is less elegant than BdC, IMHO. • Doesnt matter if you're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s, you'll appreciate this scent. Even in your 60s, chances are you still will. • Performance-wise, it outlasts both YSL Y and Chanel BdC on me by ~2 hours. It also projects considerably more. • The ambroxan + spices (moar pepper!) combo turns it into an Energizer Bunny that just won't quit! • I'm on my 2nd bottle in ~8 years, and I still enjoy wearing it. Even at the office, occasionally, on Fridays! PS: Fragheads and influencers love to spit on it because these contrarian talking points drive engagement and clicks.

I used this fragrance 3–5 years ago, but I've never forgotten it since. I own quite a few perfumes, yet this is the only one that has consistently earned me compliments. I don't wear fragrances for compliments. I wear them for myself. But this one really stands out. Seriously, women always seem to notice it, and some even go crazy for it. At first, I was a bit disappointed by all the hate it gets online. Then I thought, you know what? Maybe I should actually be happy about the gatekeeping. I used to think it was a heavy, dense fragrance that could only be worn in autumn and winter. But after trying some truly heavy fragrances, I realized this one is perfectly wearable even in summer. It may not be my absolute favorite, but it will always have a place in my rotation. Honestly, I think it's suitable for almost every occasion. The only time I'd go easy on the sprays is when I'm wearing it to the office.

I'm surprised to see so many loving comments of Sauvage on here, not because it's bad but because it's become popular to hate it. I remember before it became super popular as the go-to scent, everyone loved it. Suddenly now that it's popular you'll find self proclaimed gurus telling you how it's mediocre in a video about how to get chicks by wearing suits and cologne. Don't be swayed, Sauvage is a great scent. It's strong without being overwhelming. It's spicy, citrusy, and a little smokey. Definitely a sophisticated, formal kind of scent. There's a reason it's a top pick for guys trying to impress their dates, it's because it's welcoming and confidence inspiring. A bit pricey but nothing too unreasonable. I'm on my second bottle after years because it doesn't take much. 2 sprays will do ya for the day.

Tried Dior Sauvage EDT with low expectations. As Gen X, I was concerned it might skew too young, maybe close in vibe to something like Drakkar Noir, and give off too much “hello fellow kids” energy for someone my age, but I had to satisfy my curiosity. I wasn’t expecting to like it. That said, and from personal experience when I was younger, I can see why people would be tempted to overspray this. Cognizant of that, I apply very little. I was also surprised that it doesn’t feel cloying at all. I get the opposite: a cool, crisp, almost menthol-like edge that keeps it feeling fresh without turning weird or too medicinal. It’s not a signature scent for me, but it is an easy reach for casual Friday, days off, and running errands.

When it comes to this fragrance, I'm not concerned with the comments that downplay it's impact or say it's outdated or a thing of the past. I just love it and will continue to use it as long as Dior continues making it. The spices are the main protagonist and the ambroxan holds everything in place at the dry down. There is not much to say about it these days as it has been around for awhile now. As a die hard fan I use this fragrance any season, any day, and any time. They can come up with 20 more flankers but I will continue to stick to the good old EDT which performs much better than many high class perfumes of greater concentrations. The new refillable bottles are cool also. So be it, Sauvage is a classic.

I love this scent, I don't care if it's overused or whatever. This is genuinely a good-smelling everyday fragrance that receives hate because of its huge popularity. Which I can understand, like maybe you don't want to smell like your neighbor or potentially remind someone of a certain someone. But is it really that deep? Maybe to some, but I don't care. This stuff smells good, and even though I don't use it much anymore (it has like 5 sprays left), it was great while it lasted, though I probably won't be buying a replacement for now because I have too many other fresh/blue scents. This is still somehow the most complimented fragrance I've owned. 9.3/10

New to the fragrances, I avoided this because I saw all the hardcore fragheads hate on this “everyone wears it”.... Well months later I finally got a little mini of it, and was pleasantly surprised. Everyone doesn’t wear it. At least not around me! I can also now see why it is so popular. Its clean in a bottle. It pushes pretty hard. Everytime i get a whiff it feels like i just reshowered. People will smell this and It will offend no one. Will it turn heads? Is it interesting or have depth? No. Sometimes I don't want that, though. Just spray and go and feel fresh and clean with great performance that reminds you all day.

There are some very, very important things to consider when "judging" this fragrance. - This is one of the VERY few summer/fresh fragrances that have a strong projection and longevity. Most of the fragrances that you CAN use in hot weather (freshies/blue fragrances) are super weak and don't last for shit. Dior Sauvage is one of the few fragrances that smells fresh, lasts long and is versatile. - Even though I have a few expensive/niche perfumes, Sauvage is one of the perfumes that has gotten me the most compliments in my life. It's completely versatile, wearable whatever time of the day and it's going to last for hours.

I've managed to go a long time without putting my nose to this fragrance, which is saying a lot considering the dozens of fragrances I have in my collection, spanning decades. I have no associations with this fragrance, don't know anybody that wears it, so I'm coming at this with very little bias. That said, this is a well-crafted fragrance. I get pepper above everything else, then citrus and floral. It seems like it would be a good evening fragrance for any time of year, except for the fact that it carries the baggage of being basic and common nowadays. This is one I'll wear when only I'm going to be smelling me.

I'll never understand why there seems to be so much hate around this scent. The number one thing I hear is that it's a basic, manly scent. But here's the thing: that's why it works so darn well. It is universally crowd-pleasing, smells great on any kind of man, works well for all seasons, can be worn day or night, lasts all day without being overwhelming, and it's noticeable but inoffensive for a daily work fragrance. For these reasons, this is the one fragrance I bought for my husband because I knew he would love it. And lo' and behold, he does. This is his signature scent and I wouldn't have it any other way.

First I want to say that there are YouTube videos and articles on the internet about a recent reformulation showing the formula code as no.16097. From my research that formula exists since around 2021 and I haven't find a newer formula code even on the official website so I'm pretty sure there's not a new reformulation. I have a late 2024 bottle bought a week ago. The sillage is great, one spray on my arm and I can smell it for 3+ hours later, after that I have to go closer to smell it. I find it useful as an every day fragrance, it smells pretty good and honestly idc if people hate it, I like it.

Extremely universal cologne. I got gifted this; it was my first ever fragrance. It got me in the game, i loved the smell and it attracted a lot of attention to me. Complement magnet 6 years ago. I don’t reach for it anymore not because it’s overused but because of how much global hate it gets and the reputation that precedes it (girls think it’s a cheaters fragrance). Honestly just by smell alone its up there with the greats. It’s earned its name in history but it’s time has passed now. Thanks for all the memories Sauvauge, you’ll always hold a place in my heart.

This is my all-time favorite men's cologne. I can always tell when someone's wearing it - partly because I love it, partly because the projection is HUGE so you can smell it clear across a room lol. For me, it's a great smell I never get sick of, I can see how someone sensitive to scents might find it a bit too much. It's fresh and ambery, the perfect masculine cozy scent that doesn't lean TOO fresh or TOO smokey. I know its considered basic and overused, but it really is that popular for the reason. I'm saving up to purchase a bottle of this for my boyfriend <3

"Fragrance enthusiasts" when a fragrance isn't some esoteric interpretation of horse piss on a log. "It smells generic." And why do you think that is? Maybe because everyone tried copying this. Bffr if you don't like it, it's ok, just say that. Larping as some fragrance savant who is above iconic perfumery is cringe. You aren't better than anyone because of your "refined palate". You sound like a jackass. Please actually articulate why you don't like this fragrance instead of regurgitating buzzwords you don't actually know the meaning behind.

A loud and confident scent that feels sexy and masculine. I always get a compliment whenever I wear this out, almost to its own detriment as it’s immediately identifiable and not so unique anymore. Alas, others tend to really like this smell on others, and I would tend to reach for this bottle for nights out and big social events. Wouldn’t personally wear this in the day time during the summer, but it is generally versatile enough for any social occasion. Would maybe opt for the flankers on my repurchase.

And this particular fragrance has been in the top 3 sellers for almost a decade now, that speaks for itself. Most people don't wear perfume, even around the ones that do, most don't even know about the existence of Fragrantica, they just go to the store, smell some stuff and buy what they like. At the end of the day seems like you're the biased dumb snob on some dumb snob bubble social media.

@BlueSpiritRecords This used to be a beast, but since Francis Kurkdjian took over, he reformulated all Sauvages. I have an older bottle with formula code 9406/A, batch 08/2019, and 3 sprays sometimes felt too much. Since it was getting low I bought another one recently, batch 12/2024 and it just doesn't last or project that much, 6 sprays is now too little, also formula code is now 16097. Edit: Not even the scent is the same, it smells like FK took away all the pepper and put some "Le Male" in it.

Honestly, I love this fragrance so much. That unique bittersweet citrus opening—airy and fresh, with that particular butane-adjecent scent. Incredibly addictive. I don't mind at all how "common" this is, the vast majority of men dont wear cologne anyway. Its ubiquity is way overblown. I have never smelled Sauvage on another man in daily life, nor in the circles I partake in. Either way—common or not, it smells amazing and I'm gonna keep wearing it! 🏅S-tier

I’d say Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette and Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum are two masterpieces for me. In my opinion, these two fragrances would definitely be in the top five in the history of perfumery. I believe Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel complement each other perfectly. Scent: 9.5/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 8/10 Compliments: 8/10 Seasons: 9/10 (It is suitable for almost all seasons, although its use can be reduced a bit in winter.)

used to wear this back when i was in high school lol. brings me so much memories.. (yes ik this is NOT a good choice for school) BUT, this is one of the most unique fragrances ever made which is why it’s extremely popular to the point where it became boring and people might give you looks lol. if you’ve never had or smelled it, just do it. you deserve to have such beautiful thing in your collection. forever in my mind..

Old reliable. Guaranteed to rake in compliments & start conversations with anyone close enough to you over and over again. What reason does anyone have for hating this unless they're just trying to be contrarian? If you really want attention this is going to get you attention. If not, wear something quieter but this is the king for a reason. Not that expensive considering the fact you're buying liquid catnip.

Man Idk about other peoples skin but on my skin this stuff lasts for 12 hours! I love the smell of sauvage edt it's unique attention grabbing and sharp and so long lasting for an edt I have heard about reformulation killing the performance maybe that's the case for projection (fragrances don't project on me at all or maybe im chopped idk) but not longevity overhated fragrance will continue to buy!

what can I say? this smells SOOOO sexy to me. just the perfect masculine scent. I've been obsessed for years now and I dont think I'll ever get sick of it. this is one I got specifically to spray on my pillows at night when I was single lol. I honestly know from across the establishment when a gentleman is wearing Sauvage. I'm like a sleeper agent for this scent.

I really love when women think this is a liar, cheater man fragrance. Okay so? yet they are still gonna look for a man like that because of this masterpiece. It is that attractive 😁 Trust me, nobody really wears this anymore. Wear it and stand out with your masculinity amidst the trend of sweet, low-testosterone perfumes. She will love it unconsciously... 10/10

I've tried all the Sauvage variants, and the EDT is the one I keep coming back to. Neither the Parfum nor the EDP hit right compared to the EDT. However I now seem to prefer Luna Rossa Carbon, which is what I wear primarily now and gifted my 1/4 left bottle of Sauvage. Great scent, but really worn out in my area by too many people so its not as unique.

this was one of the first fragrances i ever bought myself as a teenager. i understand why it’s hated, but man i love sauvage. i haven’t had a full bottle since i was a teenager but sauvage was how i found out how much i love peppery fragrances. i still remember the scent like it was yesterday. plus there’s a cool bee design on the inside of the cap.

Sharp, spicy, warmth with some citrus. It kinda reminds me of a spicy menthol cough drop. The one I have is refillable. Back in my day, we had Hollister stores all over. You would enter the shop, and it was scented like Dior Sauvage. I like how divisive this scent is. Was gifted this from a family member.

I bought it at launch and it was amazing, but after all the hype and smelling it at every conrner in the city made me dislike it. But the smell I remember having at the first sniff was amazing, so I'm going to rate it as if I smelled it for the first time. Smell 9/10 Longevity 7,5/10 Projection 7/10

had been on my wishlist for years and finally got it on a decent sale whilst on holiday. immediately one of my all-time favs. its manly, and expensive smelling. makes me feel like im away to attend a fancy business conference before leaving early to attend to "more important matters."

I agree with the ambroxan comment- it's definitely ambroxan forward, but the pepperiness and spiciness makes it complex. It's a crowd pleaser and very sophisticated. Smells clean and rich! Very projecting as well.

The only fragrance I own that gets compliments from people not in my immediate family. My favourite blue style fragrance that exists and I can wear it year round. I'm always going to keep a bottle at home.

One of my favorite fragrances. You smell like a millionaire with this on. Yes it's a bit overrated but it's worth the hype. Try not to spray it more than two times unless you're trying to gas out a room.

Amazing perfume. Works day or night, any season. I understand a lot of people like to hate on it because it is very popular. However I just love it, I could imagine wearing it forever.
