Benjoin Bohème

A revisit In my first review i mentioned me not gagging at the perfume. It felt weak and bland, especially compared to the price. But yesterday i received this for my birthday. Now I dont let other people choose perfumes for me most of the time because id hate for someone to waste their money only for me to end up hiding it in a box, but I accepted it this time. And i dont know if that affects my love for this fragrance, but i must say i enjoy it much more than i did while sampling it for the first time! Before describing the perfume in depth, i want to talk about benjoin bohemes longevity and performance. When i first sampled it, i was appalled at how thin and weak the scent felt. Its a benzoin fragrance, how could benzoin ever be weak? I literally own benzoin resin and i can smell it from a distance sitting in sealed bag. To (not so) my surprise, the back of the box lists alpha isomethyl ionone. The ingredient thats present in almost all of diptyque perfumes, even Tempo! I immediately thought of my experiences with fleur de peau and orpheon, scents that seemed to be extremely weak when i wear them but extremely strong and long lasting when i smelled it on others. Thats the beautiful and i guess ugly side of ionones, they make a scent smooth and powdery and moreso violet-y than iris-y, but also impossible to smell for extended periods of time. So i decided to treat BB the same way as fleur de peau and tempo: dont think about them, dont sniff the spot you sprayed, dont spray it too close to your nose and dont actively try to smell it often. Suddenly, benjoin boheme revealed an ancient golden glow to my nose. Something deep, sweet, radiant, enveloping, mysterious and almost religious with a classic and vintage amber touch. I was shocked! I always saw diptyques perfume as pretty (and implicitly) vintage, but i never thought benjoin boheme would be their vintage amber! Eau lente came close but that one has a weird citronella facet that annoys me.. As the scent continues to open up, it becomes more and more ambery. Its not JUST benzoin mind you, the addition of patchouli makes it an amber to my nose. The cinnamon and incense dusted vanilla aspect of the benzoin gets highlighted as time passes. The initial powderiness remains, but the scent evolves into something more ‘syrupy’ (DEFINITELY not caramel). Its almost like a solid piece of resin starts melting on your skin, which generally also means the resin starts smelling more ‘alive’ which is the same for benjoin bohème. The other notes are definitely just there for support, i do not pick up on angelica root on its own. The sandalwood is probably just there to smooth everything out as i dont find this to smell necessarily woody or creamy in any way. Never smelled styrax on its own but since its also a resin it must be supporting the benzoin. The patchouli is handled with care and accentuates the deeper and more meditative facets of benzoin without taking over. They blend together basically! Benjoin boheme is surprisingly deep, diffusive and long lasting. I sprayed this 4 hours before sleeping and the next morning i can still smell it like it was sprayed on a minute ago. And while i can only catch wafts of it here and there, others have said they can definitely smell me. My dad thinks its way too heavy for example (literally the opposite of what i thought) Would i have bought this with my own money? Probably not. Its still 250 euros which, after all these years of testing perfumes, feels unnecessary to me. There are certain perfumes where i think the price is extremely justified (like angel’s dust francesca bianchi), but benjoin boheme is not complex enough for me to think its worth the price. The smell is complex dont get me wrong, benzoin itself has a very deep and layered scent. But this feels like a benzoin soliflore with a touch of other things. Anyway, sorry for this long review. If i ignore the price, this scent is an easy 10/10. Very signature scent worthy and even a bit quirky. It reminds me of a discontinued perfume , prada l’eau ambrée. If you can ever find that one for a cheap price, you definitely can skip this one

A supremely warm and elegant fragrance. There are a lot of good warm resinous fragrances. I may have figured out why this is so exceptional. The green Angelica, that is in another of my top 5 frag, "French Lover". This is boyant for a balsamic fragrance, extraordinary blending, subtle, understated. Update: The notes Diptyque list, are only 4, Peru balsam, Benzoin, cistus/ (Labdanum) and patchouli. These are listed with the bottle I received. The Peru Balsum lends especially to the regal warmth of the fragrance. There is a nice green spiciness, maybe it is angelica that gives the fragrance a coolness as well as warmth. This is not complex, but just smells soo dogon good. Super high quality ingredients. This reminds me of chesnuts roasting on an open fire, warm, woody, and nutty. This is the most I ever spent on a fragrance, because I had to purchase it from Diptyque boutique in Brooklyn. Diptyque site is out of stock, and not available on eBay, only 2 ml. I'm happy I was able to purchase it. Benjoin Boheme is a very warm Labdanum and Benzoin fragrance. It has nutty vanellic, and chocolatey undertones comming from the finest Benzoin and patchouli notes. So it smells warm and allmost delicious, without hardly getting into gourmand territory. There is a benzoin and pepper accord here that is similar to Roja Dove Enigma. There is no sweetness added, but Benzoin has a natural sweetness, and a vanela like smell. The nuttiness and spiciness, may just be comming from a very refined Patchouli note. This is an exquisitely attractive ambered fragrance. I want to wear this around people. It will make a good impression, by the deep, beautiful woody warmth, exquisite quality of notes and blending. A safe blind buy, nothing possibly offensive here, leans slightly masculine, but mostly gender neutral. Performance: Sillage slightly better than projection which is softly moderate. Longevity is great, still a solid skin scent after 12 hours, and my skin absorbs quickly. Good projection for a few hours for me. A very classy fragrance for formal events, or casual. The most beautiful ambered oriental I have experienced; Better than Amber Absolu or Ambre Sultan. MFK Grand Soir is close, but this is not too sweet, just right. As the MFK Amber's are too sweet, or honeyed for me. I was able to order a bottle by phone from a Diptyque boutique in Brooklyn NY, will be my most exquisite fragrance for Winter. Arrived cracked, bottle is fragile blown glass. Diptyque replacing express mail, nice. Rating: 10/10 God bless. John 3:16

Benjoin Bohème Diptyque (Skin test) I remember I test out Goutal Ambre Fetiche and something not resinate with me. I feel like where it suppose to be the Beautiful / airy - Melt benzoin heart, it is thick blocky syrup vanilla. I recall Benjoin Boheme. This is it.. this Best Benzoin highlight fragrance. The way Benzoin slowly crystallize on your skin Imagine how I would put my hand on bowl of amber, tint with natural sweetness. The rubber matte feel from Styrax and heart of Patchouli that not really strong either. It well balance and harmonize. Still pretty much a daily wear fragrance, yet something so finely done. Only a person who truly love Patchouli can do this, best work from Olivier Pescheux. ===== Comment on 2024 bottle release on December 26, 2024 Uhm.. so I order a bottle of new release in 2024 (The edp bottle with gold plate). (What I have sniff is the one release under La Collection 34, 2015 glass cracked bottle). I think this is reformulated, enriched by more stronger vanilla. and amber aroma-chemical base (Almost Oudy but not there yet). I think 2024 version is slightly leans to Grand Soir by MFK (30-40% from Original release) Luckily, the development stage of scent is mostly preserved. (The silent earthy patchouli still there, beautifully / The benzoin still slowly crystallised). It just slightly more sweeter vanilla than original release). And there is tone of spice, kind of Cinnamon / Cardamom. Presented in newer release. I believe with time, the newer bottle will perform stronger than original release. (I think this case of reformulation similar to transition of Coromandel EDT to EDP) I don't mind newer release as this vanilla still beautiful. (Not the gourmand-extra creamy thick vanilla). 2024 -> slightly more vanilla, spicy tone stronger base leans more commercial as ease of use. 2015 -> focus on delicateness of bezonin that merge with patchouli, more details. Both version is beautiful fragrance nonetheless. ===== Update 2 on January 20, 2025 I now own a bottle from 2016, the glass cracked bottle. I have done compare test and I confirm my statement above, will keep both version.

This is so dreamy! I was lucky enough to find a vintage style, cracked glass bottle, out here in Taiwan which I've been testing against a sample I have of the newer stuff. There is a difference, but it's rather slightly. The new stuff isn't quite so luscious and seems to fade a little quicker, but the overall smell profile is the same. What we have here is a gorgeous benzoin note, which stays fairly linear throughout the whole wear, which is absolutely ages. 3-4 hours of gentle projection off my skin, followed by whiffs here and there for the next 10. I can spray this first thing in the morning at 8am and still catch benzoin hums 12 hours later. That's after a gym session, cycle, work and walk around. Those who complain about this juice's performance must be talking about the newer formulation, or are simply unlucky with their skin chemistry. This stuff lasts and lasts on my skin, creating a gentle, golden-coloured, ambery, resinous sillage, which is difficult to capture in words. It makes you feel like your skin is glowing with a sweet, yet not too sweet essence of sheer deliciousness. It never feels pretentious or snobby and certain notes, I guess the patchouli and angelica stop it from ever becoming too sweet. The sandalwood backbone, which is not a heavy, obvious sandalwood, gives structure to the scent and gives the benzoin note a 3D effect which resonates all around you. The presence of woods is probably aiding the longevity of this fragrance too. I adore this perfume! It's unlike any other I've tried before. I see it compared to MFK's Grand Soir, which is also beautiful, yet what I'd call a more classic amber, with little else going on. The dominance of benzoin here, tamed by slight greens and woods into an exceedingly wearable versatile scent, is what truly makes it shine. The fact I was able to grab a new bottle of the vintage design in Taiwan (batch code from 2020) in July 2024, shows there are still some of these bottles out there... I urge you to buy one if ever you have the opportunity. It's magical.

A hologram of balsamic benzoin and spicy powdery woods Benjoin Boheme is one of those experiences for me of stopping at a fragrance counter, casually picking up a fragrance bottle you find interesting (in this case because of the stunning cylindrical bottle it used to come in), spraying it on a paper strip and having your brain shout *WTF is that* before getting tingles all over your scalp and spine and zoning out sniffing at your hands like some kind of depraved fool. Benjoin Boheme has this kind of opening for me, a slightly sweet slightly powdery bright pristine almost 'crystaline' but simultaneously deep balsamic warmth which almost knocked me out the first time I smelled it. Its probably almost exclusive to me and my nose physiology but it just knocks me straight into a minute-long olfactory high of sorts. A few minutes later and the finely almost powdered soft spicy facets start erupting through, quite reminiscent of the peppery patchouli of Tempo but much more delicate, im guessing a pristine grade of terpeneless patchouli, which gives a very suave woodiness to the composition. This duet of benzoin and patchouli continues for several hours to come. There is also clearly a slight incense element. There are times I am convinced it is myrrh, but i am still not entirely certain. There is something I find incredible about this fragrance, which is how lightweight it feels. It's not weak, it's clearly there, projects well for a decent amount of time, but feels incredibly radiant and almost 'holographic' like my nose chases it constantly. Where it a musical composition, it would be one composed of only high mids and faint treble. This is also not a sweet fragrance, yes it is balsamic and vanillic, but compared to Grand Soir, the red velvet cake, this is like eating a halfsweet slice of Swiss roll filled with unsweetened whipped cream and tart raspberries.

New bottle: Quite cozy indeed and gentle, very gentle. Time and maceration might work to its benefit. For now it wears as a soft spicy & sweet aura scent. The benjoin note is vanillic and with the tiniest hint of a spice (like cinnamon). It feels warm but very balanced and airy. In the opening it slightly reminds me of my forever love Volutes in its airiness but without the tobacco note. In the far drydown I get a similar note like in the drydown of L’Initial by Guerlain (I’ve seen people mentioning a “baby wipes” note). The patchouli note is almost undetectable, don’t be scared of it ; the part of it that makes an appearance is not your traditional earthy patchouli note but a very smooth and clear one. I’m thinking of the exquisite, luxurious patchouli used in Coromandel but only a very thin and transparent layer of it. Benjoin Boheme is a scent that feels like golden hour. It is perfect for fall and winter but I can easily see myself wearing this all year round. It makes me feel grounded, relaxed and content. One of the scents that can feel like a hug and a feeling of safety. It will carry me through the dark cold days with the promise of sun rays, warmth and comfort. I can’t be mad about its poor performance, it almost feels like part of its charm. Its style is so personal. It doesn’t care for the world to notice, it only cares about making you feel good. I find the combination of benjoin and sandalwood very soothing and uplifting for the soul. This is soul balm. Enjoy!

Oh Benjoin Bohème ! I have never liked balsamic and resinous fragrances, but this stole my heart. The benzoin here is not waxy nor thick, it’s a watery benzoin, flowing golden liquid. A benzoin with Morgan Freeman’s voice, God this is beautiful ! Patchouli is quite prominent - I would even say that the main players are definitely benzoin-patchouli. No styrax on this perfume - no angelica as well. I mean that literally, these notes aren't listed on Diptyque. This is what the website says : RAW MATERIALS Benzoin, Peru balsam, Rockrose OLFACTORY ACCIDENT Patchouli I find it hard to pinpoint just what makes Benjoin Boheme special. It isn’t waw, it won’t make you weak at the knees, but it’s undeniably addictive, warm and cozy. A second skin. Unlike anything I own, I wouldn’t know what to compare it with. That juice is so airy, it bears a spaciousness that makes it natural. It also has a greater performance than say the regular line of EDP from Diptyque. Though the weird thing is that on me, the fragrance doesn’t scream i’m here, it’s rather like your own shadow. But people around me noticed this perfume a lot ! It seems that Benjoin Boheme leaves a pretty strong sillage, but not much projection (which I thought went hand in hand). Absolutely full bottle worthy. A scent for colder weathers or cozy days. 100% unisex too... and what a gorgeous bottle to own !

A fragrance so delicious I almost want to pour it on pancakes. Maybe I would if it weren’t for the price. Despite being a warm, syrupy scent its not too sweet thanks to a subtle earthiness and musk from the angelica and patchouli. It strikes a very nice balance to give you a warm satisfying aroma without ever becoming sickly. This is easily the most unisex fragrance in my fledgling collection, taking the unisex crown from MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver. If anything this may lean a tiny bit feminine but when it smells this good I just have to wear it anyway. All round it is a nice, comforting, satisfying scent that can be worn by anyone and will offend no one, which may just be the one problem I have with Benjoin Boheme. If Roja Enigma is a sexier scent, Benjoin Boheme is Enigma’s friend-zoned cousin . Its just a little too nice, a little too inoffensive. This certainly won’t be a choice on date-night, instead I’ll have this in heavy rotation for days at the office or when I’m spending time with family. As for performance, I applied it at around 08h30 this morning and I still get a hit of it now at 17h30 any time my wrist goes near my face. The projection is more moderate and stays a little close to the skin but perhaps this is a scent that I expect to be more restrained. For me, I love it, I’ll wear it frequently, just not for every occasion.

Very good Benzoin Sandalwood Angelica fragrance. With initial spray I was reminded of the Guerlain Angelique Noir, Benjoin Boheme has that same sort of herbaceous Angelica note minus all the vanilla. Addictive comforting Benzoin and very good quality patchouli note, at dry down I can smell more woody note, perhaps sandalwood?. I usually dislike patchouli, the only one I can tolerate is in the Chanels Coco Noir and this patchouli note is very similar here, very refined. Im not comparing the fragrances, just picking the notes. The Bejoin Boheme is very unique and very pretty. I am surprised that Angelica is so low rated because I can smell it really good. The scent is comforting and sits very close to skin, something I would consider wearing to bed. Its not a loud fragrance. Another fragrance I would compare it to is Chanel 5 Primiere but Benjoin Boheme is more unisex and would work for men and women and no vanilla sweetness. This is mature scent ( not in the bad way, I just dont see it on a younger gen) Overall if you love your perfume leaning feminine, you probably wont like it. I do think its slightly more masculine leaning in the way Eau Duelle is. Benjoin Boheme is not a safe blind buy, it has a very niche scent to it although if you do like Eau Duelle, you most likely will love Benjoin Boheme too.

Not sure what other reviewers are talking about? I have an original “cracked” bottle, and honestly, this lasted for an entire 24 hours with two sprays on the back of my hand. Still noticeable even after washing them. No, it doesn’t project like A*Men. But was I getting whiffs of it all day without raising my hand up to my nose? Yes. Nonstop. I find reviews under every single perfume from someone saying “this was gone in an hour.” I think anosmia is far more likely to be the cause of someone not smelling their own perfume after they just applied it recently. If anything, when someone says they don’t notice a perfume after that long, my suspicion is that the perfume is actually so strong that they have just become nose blind to it. It could be many factors actually, skin could be dry, person might have allergies, maybe the fragrance needs to macerate, i mean, even a persons mood can affect their sense of smell from one day to another. I just find it incredibly difficult to believe that this perfume which lasted an entire day on my own skin, would vanish after just one hour on someone else’s. Again, this is all based on my experience with applying the perfume directly to my skin. On clothes, this lasts (and projects) for WEEKS!

Delicate and refined, smooth and comforting. Fresh, clean, warm and luxurious! 10/10 craftsmanship! It’s truly magical how natural this smells! It blends into your skin and enhances your natural smell. Everything is balanced and blended so well, the benzoin is smooth like butter, sweet balsamic & resinous, light yet deep, complex and sophisticated. I am not the biggest fan of patchouli but it’s beautiful in this and the rock rose helps round things off with a slight, soft, churned like butter herbaceous note that keeps it from being sweet. If you don’t like sweet fragrances you will love this and if you are a gourmand lover like I am you can still enjoy it as there’s a light sweetness but not sugary nor syrupy. It’s just beautiful! Suitable for any weather day or night but I would reserve for special occasions. This is elegant and graceful. Projects very well but doesn’t overwhelm and lasts 8 hours I wore to bed and could still smell it on my skin the next day. I layer this sometimes when I want to add a bit of elegance to my gourmand sweet fragrances. EDIT: this is just amazing after a bath on warm skin! It smells exquisite! I layer it also and it pairs well with sweet balsamic/resinous type perfumes.

(Spoiler: Being a muggle in perfumery, I am not in any sense deeply educated in all these theories, notes, perfume structures etc., so my review is totally based on subjective perception) This was a semi-impulse purchase as the Diptyque shop in my area made it clear that the crackled bottle was probably the very final one. I promptly had a quick test on my skin, and decided right away to buy it - no regret. I always liked the smell of vanilla but never the sweetness - and so the styrax/benjoin combo just hit the exact spot. The sandalwood-styrax/benjoin combo gives a fluffy warmth like a warm but extravagant thick blanket, but the angelica just balances it away from being all the way gooey sweet. This scent actually reminds me of my granduncle's house which I frequently visited in my childhood - the slightly aged wood furnitures, piles of old books and antiques, and the old piano - Benjoin Boheme reminds me of exactly that. Projection is fine (used it exclusively in winter; too dense in summer for my liking); but 10+ hours longevity. Not sure if the performance and smell of the gold-label bottle ones perform as well; but at least I'm very content with my crackled bottle.

I was looking for a benzoin-forward scent, and here it is. It's warm, resinous, leathery and a bit medicinal and floral on the back end in the most beautiful, peaceful way. I mean, I may have to trot out the word "masterpiece"--it's pretty good. I would love this scent on a confident, sexy man--his taste is impeccable, he's wearing a tailored suit from the Row, and he knows how to handle himself in an emergency, lol. This scent is traditional--this isn't a hipster scent, and it's not for the guy in his 30s and still wearing a backwards cap. This scent is worn by someone with world experience, who knows a timeless classic, and knows when to stay quiet in a room full of idiots. As a woman who prefers femme scents, I think I want more sweetness on my skin--a drop of honey, perhaps vanillin. Heck, I should just buy another bottle of Guerlain's Angelique Noire and call it a day. It's beautiful, but I think I'd like it more on a man's neck.

For anyone interested in this scent, I was in a Dyptique store in London this afternoon and the staff told me that the bottling format of this fragrance will change in the next few days. The original (and rather beautiful) crackled glass 100ml bottle in the special outer packaging will go and this will now be sold in the standard 75ml grey glass EdP bottle format. A shame to lose the beautiful original bottle, but the worse news is that it seems the price is going to increase massively. In the UK, it has until now been £190 for 100ml. In the 75ml format it will be in their new top price range alongside Eau Nabati and Eau Rihla at £210 for 75ml. So, the price per 100ml will go up from £190 to £280. It's a shame about the price change, but I'm glad it will continue to be available. Worth trying to grab a bottle quickly as their London stores still seem to have it in stock in the original format, and it looks like their website does too.

As a first impression review: I purchased this because of the unique beautiful bottle for a diptyque fragrance and because of the glowing reviews here. As I sprayed it on my skin, I didn’t like it. It smelled very masculine and “oudy” in a way. Saying I was disappointed is an understatement. 10 minutes passed by... and I’m obsessed. This is absolutely heavenly. It’s quite different from anything I have, it’s sexy in a way. I’ll definitely will be keeping it to explore it further. Edit: this is my absolute favourite perfume. Absolutely gorgeous, can’t go without it. As an update a month later: I had to buy a second bottle of this as a backup. I can’t imagine not having this scent and I am scared it will be discontinued. It’s a very resinous fragrance but in a soft, sensual and inviting way, if I had to pick only one perfume for the rest of my life it would be this.

Full bottle purchased at the SRP from the Diptyque store on Madison Ave., New York City - in hindsight, not the smartest place to buy given the high sales taxes. Very much a play in two acts, this opens warm, comforting and resinous with a lightly vanillic character from the benzoin. As it dries down, the ambery notes take a step back and the patchouli base comes to dominate. It is a highly-quality, deep, dank, slightly minty patchouli that nicely conveys the dandyish, bohemian vibe the brand is going for here. It reminds me of Fribourg & Treyer’s patchouli snuff, which, come to think of it, is a suitably dandyish point of reference. I have used almost half of this bottle in ten weeks - partly because I am really enjoying it, and partly because it lacks a bit of staying power. It’s a strong rebuy candidate for me, especially if I can find it duty-free.

This is kinda perfect oriental I was happy to try so far, all thanks to my vendor, who added a free sample of 1 ml to the parcel of decants I ordered recently. Super-realistic resin without that "perfumery" amber, which spoils almost every first oriental fragrance out there. It's like you're inhaling the vapourising resin from coal tablet, pure and solid, not contaminated with smoke of burning bambus or other wood stick or oiling accent of a lamp. I'm not sure if it's bensoin or styrax, or maybe even frankincense, I'm not that of an expert. It's also very linear, "in a good way" as mentioned by the reviewer below. Yeah, sometimes you like to be surprised and keep intrigued and so on, but sometimes you just want to know what you're getting and this is the case for me.

After hearing tons of praise for this perfume i had high expectations. I dont think all them were met, but it is still lovely. I was expecting a more powdery and naturalistic benzoin (both things that are typical for Diptyque). This is more spice cabinet, with a weird sweetness that doesnt seem vanillic. The drydown gets much better and beautiful, but at that point the scent is extremely thin... its not as balsamic or thick as i would have hoped. But thats a good thing, now i wont have to buy this! I do think this could have been much better, but oh well It reminds me a lot of Empire des Indes from oriza l legrand, but that one has cinnamon and this one doesnt

Yes, this is not a deep, dark,resinous fragrance. I have about 12 Diptyque frags, and I just put this in my top 5 for Fall and Winter of all my 100 or so fragrances. The deep, dark ouds are all over. This is soft and elegant, and so refined and well composed. The benzoin and styrax are more light woody resins. It has a bit of pepper for zest, and a great patchouli base. The Angelica is the piquant note that takes this over the top. Highest fragrantica rating I have ever seen in 1,000's of fragrances. My full review is here from a couple years back. I was just remembering how good it is. First wore it around Christmas time to church with friends, felt great.

This is such an intriguing scent. I've gone back and forth on my thoughts on this and I think I've finally settled on really liking it! At first spray, it came off old lady-ish, but that quickly subsided as I let it sit on skin. Throughout the day all I was able to smell was this unique resinous scent that was creamy and alluring in all the right ways. I would say this is 100% unisex, lasts about 6-8 hours on my skin, and projects decently. I definitely wouldn't give this any more than two sprays as I can imagine it becoming cloying if there's too much of this scent in the air. A little definitely goes a long way!

This fragrance was launched in 2015 as part of a trio in La Collection Trente Quatre. According to Diptyque's official website: "Benjoin Bohème Eau de Parfum - Laotian benjoin, Angelica Seed, Sandalwood, Styrax and Patchouli - Collection 34 welcomes a trio of eau de parfums, amazing compositions in special bottles. Unique and irresistible, they will whisper a thousand stories on the skin. Benjoin Bohème is an elegant balm. Accompanied by Angelica Seeds, Sandalwood, Styrax and Patchouli, this Laotian ingredient becomes much less indiscreet. It will whisper a thousand stories on the skin."

At first, this is benzoin with chewy patchouli and styrax. The patchouli and styrax add something reminiscent of wet earth mixed with labdanum. Then then it smooths into a rich, classsic amber scent that smells like more than just the listed notes. It's as if you took the richness and warmth of Ambre Russe and mixed it with the herbal notes (but not the dryness) of MPG's Ambre Precieux. The herbal notes smell like lavender + bay laurel to me, not angelica. I'm not crazy about the late drydown though, which is a little too powdery/benzoin. Like.

I adore this perfume. It lasts more than a month on clothes and 2 washes to get it off. I love the way I smell and I only spray 4x on me. This triggers a specific memory for me. My grand dad used to have a wood and steel workshop. And he had a tiny shed where he uses resin, paint and varnish. Whenever I smell this it takes me back to that time and place. I am guessing it is the resin scent in particular which is benzic? Or benzoic? I love the way this perfume makes me feel. I feel grounded and reminiscent of my roots.

@coltonmartinez thank you :) i found on diptyques blog that it indeed was OP. I'm quite picky with perfume that i knew upon smelling that this one is special. Its my all time favorite right now. It is sweet and warm but also contrasts with something cool, which perfectly makes it steer clear of being cloying. It has a solid spiced and boozed backbone, although i dont get straight up booze but only a hint. I hope this never stops being produced its my baby. and happens to be in the most gorgeous bottle too :)

Think Givenchy's Pi combined with Guerlain's L'Instant opulence and sophistication... Side notes: It's a warming experience and the coziest fragrance I own. I completely adore everything about this fragrance. It's like receiving a comfortable hug from someone you cherish, but haven't seen in forever. This embraces you... Edit: There is no obvious difference between the juice in the newer bottles vs the older bottles. I have both and I can't find any difference between them.

This is the only patchouli I'll wear. It's classy, warm and beautiful with no "head shop" vibes. I've got the old "crackle-glass" bottle. Perfect fall/winter fragrance and goes great with an oversized wool sweater and jeans--I'd never wear it in the spring or summer. Lasts 6+ hours on me. I 've gottten several "What perfume are you wearing?" compliments from other women, however my husband doesn't really like it. I still wear it though!

I really appreciate this one. I just wish Diptyque made an intense version. This is very light as is. Excellent smell. Come on Diptyque. For what you charge this should be stronger and more bold. If i could find a 100ml older bottle i would. Yet I cannot find one. For the newer 75ml just spray much more. You know what I also smell? A hint of Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight in Paris. Just every so slightly in the drydown. It is there.

Another one I've been dying to try - this is so gorgeous. I need a full bottle. It is more of a whisper than a shout, but some fragrances have the luxury of my attention despite this "flaw" because they are just so nice. Genuinely resinous with that lovely woodsy styrax and quality sandalwood supporting it beneath. Definitely full bottle worthy. Up there in the tens with Richwood and TRNP / Rouge Bunny Rouge Embers.

Wow, another stunner from diptyque. This is a beautiful, rounded, warm balsamic benzoin with noticeable clean patchouli through out. Angelica is more prominent in the first 5 minutes or so, which does give this resin heavy fragrance some greenness to breakup the weight. This is a unisex scent that's suit worthy, date-night appropriate, but can also easily be one's signature. A successful blind buy for me.

I have this perfume in the new higher-end EDP bottle. In my opinion, this is the best perfume from the house Diptyque. It is a sweet ambery perfume but not too sweet, it is spicy but just at the right level, it is my most favourite benzoin perfume and a star in its own class. It is a craft that defines elegance and balance in a perfume. Long-lasting but understated and classy. Go get it!

Smoky, ambery, powdery and incensy. Feeling calm and safe. Regrettably weak sillage and short longevity. Lasts less than an hour on my skin. Formal and classy. Updated: Have been using it for 4 months now and am still using it. It fills the entire space with its unique notes and it makes me feel calm and peaceful every time after I spray. Fits virtually any outfits and very versatile.

This is a beautiful incense fragrance that reminds me of my childlike days in the catholic church when the priest would go around with the incense. I love this smell! It does remind me a great deal of Jo Malone's Myrrh & Tonka. This is Sebastian's (a fragrance reviewer) favorite perfume. I can see why. I love it and am very, very glad I bought it.

Possibly one of my favorite Diptyque fragrances of all time! Wish they still had the old bottles of this, as the cracked ice effect is so beautiful on a counter. Comforting, interesting, calming, intriguing, so many dualities captured in one fragrance. Spicy warmth meets cooling air. Vintage meets modern. Presence meets memory.

A very calm, resinous woody fragrance. Indeed, it reminds 34 Boulevard by vibe, but only for a moment. 34 Boulevard opens with brighter clove and black currant, lasts longer and brighter. Benjoin is more restrained, noble. 2024 the beautiful “cracked” bottle has been replaced by a classic one, unfortunately

Nice balsamic scent with lots of bitter herbs, resins and incense. It’s rich, complex and somewhat cooling. I feel la bit of soapiness from the patchouli, but it’s a nice type of soapiness. Like an ancient soap bar that was lying next to the incense in some museum. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

This is a very strange scent, unexpectedly strong. It's powdery, semi-sweet and very warming and i love it. On the strength, it appears to come and go throughout the duration of the wear (8 hours for me). If you want an ethereal and alluring scent, give this a try.

This fragrance is supposed to smell like a 19th century dandy, and I totally agree — it’s what I imagine the people in dark academia Pinterest photos to smell like! It’s definitely the true unisex scent I’ve been looking for, as well. Love this fragrance!!!

the reviewer beneath talking of this being discontinued was talking out of their ass, spoke with diptyque employees and there was a supply shortage but its all back on track. in europe this never went off their webshop only in the USA for a couple weeks

This fragrance transports you into another world. It smells exactly how I would imagine a French artist studio would smell like back in the day. It’s very cozy and comforting. The gorgeous bottle matches the juice perfectly.

There are a few bottles left at Madrid,s Dyptiqye. Soft, beautiful amber. Still not as good as Grand Soir, but it is not too similar to it. It is unique. Almost a collectors item, thanks to Sebastian Jara, the Scent Guy.

This is the best Benzoin fragrance I have in my collection. I didn't think it would be this good. Very hard to get. Found it on Selfridges website. Sells out frequently but they seem to restock often.

Anyone interested in a new 100ml cracked bottle? When I learned that it will disappear, I bought two bottles as a back up but now I know one is enough for me. I live in France

This is one of the very best balsamic fragrances. It's very similar in structure and composition to Le Lion by Chanel. Le Liion uses labdanum as the centerpiece, here benzoin.

A very very beautiful scent and that's what perfume is all about, high quality, fine craftsmanship, it is a fragrance to die for. 10/10 hands down.

This is like Creed Spice and Wood but better. The Benzoin gum resin gives it a balsamic richness that is light and very unique. #1 Diptyque.

I know it has more fall/winter notes, but using it in summer has been giving me some special delight. THE BEST benzoin theme perfume IMHO.
