Bois Corsé

Bois Corsé is one of my top three fragrances from Diptyque, managing to blend woods, coffee, and vanilla in such a sweet, calming way. Nathalie Cetto and Olivier Pescheux find the perfect balance between these three main notes, making them prevalent but not boisterous. A non-offensive sweet, coffee scent can be hard to find, especially one that smells natural and authentic. Bois Corsé opens up with a strong punch of coffee and vanilla, the woods and warm, spicy part of the scent lingering behind and becoming more apparent as it begins to dry down. As the fragrance settles on skin, it begins to evolve into a sweet, powdery, and aromatic vanilla and coffee scent with a hint of woods. The fragrance lingers in the air in a pleasant way, not being too strong or too weak. Being a lighter, sweet coffee fragrance is what I love so much about Bois Corsé with each of its key notes sticking true from opening to dry down. The almost underwhelming nature of the coffee, vanilla, and woods creates a nice base line to layer with other winter/fall scents. The fragrance lasts for a moderate amount of time and becomes a skin scent after 5-6 hours for myself. The sillage is is decent as well, not overwhelming others which can sometimes be a common trope with coffee/vanilla fragrances. Les Essences de Diptyque's pride is quality and sustainability which is another bonus, however, the price reflects its luxurious background. At around 340 USD retail, it can be easily argued that Bois Corsé is overpriced, but for what your getting, I feel 340 is justifiable. Overall, Diptyque has brought another fantastic fragrance to its line, being my favorite in the Les Essences line next to Lilyphea. If you are looking for a inoffensive, calming, and mature scent for the winter, I would highly recommend Bois Corsé.

I smelled this yesterday at the Bloomingdale's in LA's Century City. The bottle is gorgeous. The smell is intoxicating. It has the Diptyque DNA, whatever that means. I detect a sweetness that reminds me of L'Eau Papier. There is an amber note, but it is not oppressive and just subtle. And a coffee, toffee, amaretto mixed with the most delicious powdery essence. It is definitely a fall/winter scent. You would wear if you were a lovely young woman with long lush hair in an Angora sweater drinking coffee by the fire on a snowy night in a Montmartre cafe. It is ridiculously expensive and overpriced though. Following in the current trend of huge markups in price. So I would rather do without it. I'm sure there is some wonderful shower gel that I can obtain for $15 that will do the same trick as this $330 bottle. Michael Edwards' Fragrance Match thinks that these are a close match for Bois Corsé: Comete Paradis by Parle Moi de Parfum ($145 at USA Lucky Scent) Pricier: OUD CADENZA Maison Crivelli 2024 ($252 Harrods) (Woody Amber Fresher Gourmand) Date, Madagascar vanilla, Oud Woods

wow, this scent is like the platonic ideal archetype of all delicious hot beverages literally everything I wanted from a woody fragrance, warm, sweet, milky, almondy, cozy...all in all absolutely phenomenal and so well blended, a masterpiece! very suitable for the start of autumn and the upcoming colder months don’t be turned away by the descriptions of “earthy” and “rainfall”, this definitely isn’t some inaccessible petrichor or wet soil scent but something very warm, zesty and welcoming; the woods are there but the sweet vibe clearly reigns, this will be adored by people who look for “pumpkin spice” or “hot chocolate” type of cozy and comforting autumn scents you wish you could drink (don’t also get turned away by the coffee note either, I myself usually hate coffee but this isn’t the “raw coffee seed” type of perfume but something already brewed to perfection, like a warm cappuccino) longevity is impressively good too and it overally projects really well a 9/10 release (only downside for me personally is the cost but it’s still absolutely worth it)

A deciduous forest, where the cedars ooze vanilla bourbon and tempered chocolate leaves alight upon coffee ground soil. It’s an artful dessert. Like something enjoyed over fika or featured in a Le Creuset advertisement. Not a nuclear Starbucks meltdown (a la Kerosene’s Followed) or a craft-store candle. I’m obsessed with these rare “bittersweet” gourmands. It’s Soie Malaquais, but subtract the rose and add malty tonka. If I didn’t already own (and spend a similar fortune on) Soie, Bois would be an auto-buy. Head-to-head, I found Soie had greater endurance and intensity than Bois, however Bois dried into the most alluring cocoa powder-y scent for its final hours. I guess you could say I’m a soie-boi. Mental Snapshot: The perfect afternoon in your hygge hideaway, tucked snug in a childhood treehouse. You nurse a ramekin of homemade sticky toffee pudding whilst rereading Redwall. Or some Robert Frost. You are most definitely wearing something cable-knit. And something corduroy. tl;dr: tiramisu yule log ☕️🪵

Bois Corsé is THE coffee fragrance for those who usually avoid gourmand scents. It’s transparent, dry, earthy, freshly-ground and aromatic with a dusting of dark and unsweetened cocoa powder that’s slightly bitter and only gently sweet. But the sandalwood is the star of the show here, it’s top-notch Indian sandalwood that’s creamy, woody and smooth. Add a slight palo santo smokiness that’s more dusty than ashy and Bois Corsé is a gentle and soothing, dry woody ground coffee/sandalwood dream. I fear I may be nose-blind to it or it may be a little too demure as it likes to behave as a close skin-scent. It’s along the lines of Ambre Gris by Perris Monte Carlo in its dry, tree bark/cigar leaf nature. It’s so linear, minimalist and unisex that it’s just so wearable. There is that glossy magazine style ISO-E note which the entire Les Essences line relies on heavily, but it’s more muted in Bois Corsé.

Absolutely one of my favorite purchases so far this year. I went in to the Diptyque store to purchase Eau Rihla (also delicious, book leather, raspberries and iris - similar to TF Ombre Leather, but that gives me more leather jacket/jasmine), but while there I received a sample of Bois Corsé. Two wears and I knew I'd be sad if I didn't buy a full sized bottle. The opening is a little coco/coffee, but not super gourmand, with a hint of warm spices. Once it dries down, it's just basically a hug in a bottle. A little milky and woody from the sandalwood, with almost a hint of almond. I went to dinner wearing this the other night and kept smelling my sweater, it's intoxicating. Sprayed it before bed, still super powerful in the morning. The bottle does give jean nate vibes.

I have a big crush on this one. Right when i first smelled it, i knew it was the one. Feels very familiar but i like it more than most sandalwood perfumes i’ve tried . So comforting and inviting. Makes me feel at peace. Smells like the insides of a luxe, vintage, wooden cabinet where coffee was once stored. There’s also a prominent tonka bean note that adds the smooth sweetness. Woody perfume of my dreams. Doesn’t go sour AT ALL which is rare compared to other sandalwood fragrances. Even one of my favs Santal Austral gets a little tangy on me. Bois Corsé is simple but has something so beautiful and grounding about it that i can’t get enough of. The longevity is trash not gonna lie... still, I couldn’t leave the Diptique store without it. I love love love

At first spray you smell every note and they mix so well together. The entire mix give it almost a light latte smell. But woody.Its all in a light smooth yet forward way. That lasts about 15 minutes. After it will dry down to a sandalwood cedar light Tonka and light powder . The coffee to me gets to a light chocolate then turns into a musk. While I do wish the coffee stayed prominent this is still a very nice fragrance from beginning to end. It smells great it smells high quality. It's not offensive, totally unisex. Performance is just ok by today's standards. 4 to 5 hours . Decent projection for about 2 hours. For the price I would expect a little more. I will give this a 7.5/10. A stronger coffee note would have taken this to an 8.5.

I really like this. It’s not like other coffee perfumes where you get overwhelmed with sugar, milk or caramel. This is a realistic dry coffee with an undercurrent of cocoa powder, cedar, and sandalwood. A reviewer elsewhere described it as a tiramisu Yule log and I think that’s apt. This is perfectly unisex and multipurpose. It’s serious yet subdued enough for casual wear. I’m really tempted to get a full bottle (I got a mini version second-hand) but the price is so high given its longevity/projection. I haven’t been able to find another fragrance like it but an aromatic coffee plus Tam Dao might come close.

Smells like something Imaginary Authors or Rania J would make, and I mean that in a positive way. The opening can be challenging due to an unapologetic combination of cedar tree bark and sweet coffee. Very earthy, woody, slightly chocolaty yet dry. Almost inspiring and therapeutic in some way due to the woody earthiness from the tree bark accord. But it's the drydown that is worth waiting for: Some of the creamiest most delicious sandalwood accords I have smelled. Slightly smoky too. It's so good. If you ever test this, give it at least an hour, because that's when the real magic happens.

This is the one. Sweet, creamy, warm, silky, dusted in cocoa powder and just a dash of cinnamon. The tiramisu comment below is 100% true but this doesn’t feel synthetic at all in the way a lot of gourmands can go. If tiramisu was a flower this is what it would smell like. Having tried all 5 in the line, this and Lilyphea (a nice steamy, watery floral) were the two I was most partial to. The others are all quite citrus and spice forward, resulting in a bell pepper, spicy marg pickle thing. If that’s your thing, congratulations.

To me this fragrance smells like a hidden coffeeshop in an old city. It’s a rainy cold day, & you find the coffeeshop due to some minor miracle right as the rain is pouring down even harder. Inside the coffeeshop are shelves of dusty novels, worn wooden tables. Creamy, a bit sweet, a bit bitter, lots of dust & a huge hit of coffee — it’s a super comforting scent that’d be an easy go-to for cool autumn/winter days. My second favorite from this collection after Lunamaris.

The salesperson said this was the most popular (and strongest) of the new collection. The notes and scent profile do not appeal to my usual tastes, but I tested this on my wrist nonetheless—and it is stunning. Today is also one of the first fall-like days of the season, and this creates such a mood. I get all of the notes, in the most creamy and beautiful (and gourmand) way. It’s coffee, nutty, a bit boozy. It’s persistent but not overwhelming in the slightest.

got my hands on a sample of this at the diptyque store today. wow, it didn't disappoint. it's my favorite kind of gourmand, warm and not too sweet - the spicy note actually makes me think of cognac. it almost reminds me of an espresso martini but the coffee notes aren't overpowering. the price point is heartbreaking! and the person i talked to today said they currently don't have plans for a smaller size (aside from the discovery set of all 5 in 10mls).

I ran to the comments section after I smelt this. Now I’m the kinda guy thats not super picky and have smelt a lot of perfumes over the years. I love my hugely commercial and common fragrances such as CDN IM, Dior Sauvage or BDC. However, I do enjoy unique and niche fragrances as well. I will not categorize this in anyway. All I’ll say with this one is that it is currently my favorite fragrance and my daily driver. Easiest 10/10 I’ll give in my life.

My favorite from the Les Essences line. A vanillic coffee and woods scent, but despite all the heavy notes, this smells light and airy yet still cozy to me - the way only Diptique would do a vanilla/coffee scent. Some people describe it as soapy, but it reads as more of a fluffy sweet muskiness to my nose, maybe a slight laundry musk vibe. I tried this on my skin at a Diptique boutique and went back for a bottle the next day - total love.

handsome-man scent. synthetic? sure, yeah, absolutely, in the way that an expensive store is, or in the way that the smell of glossy magazine paper is. tonka and furniture wood. really just a handsome, warm and creamy scent. not so cloyingly sweet so as to lean into the over-heavy tobacco/cigar territory, but just sweet enough that i would kiss the man wearing this in the middle of a coffeeshop, just to get a taste. i couldn't wear this.

This is such a beautiful scent that transports you straight to a cozy late fall/winter dinner. I love the coffee notes but I think it’s the sandalwood that makes it so cozy. It is indeed pretty linear but it has great longevity. I have a sample of it that I’ve let sit for a little while and I feel like that’s definitely made it more potent. I wouldn’t say it’s overpriced as much it’s just expensive because I’d pay the price for it.

found my gentle coffee cream. the longevity is grand; it lingers on clothes even through the wash, but always gently. i wore this while traveling and it was the perfect choice for a 24/7 perfume. it smells more classy than innovative, seductive, or grandiose — and that’s its charm. with just enough presence in the elevator, the kind of quiet luxury that feels deliberate.

I love the opening of Bois Corse. The woods and coffee are smoky and slightly spicy. It’s such a delectable, comforting scent. Unfortunately half an hour in it morphs into pure sandalwood. It’s a sandalwood I like but it’s not spectacular enough for £255. I was fortunate to receive my bottle as a gift but I don’t know that I’d pay full price for this.

This is very good. Not the best fragrance I own but I’m glad to own it. It smells VERY similar to Akro Awake. I’ve owned that one and it was too strong for me so, this one, was a good substitute. The coffee is prominent and I don’t have any complaints except for the price.

smells great, but I can barely smell anything after 3 hours. I would kinda expect more from an EDP at this price. edit: wore it yesterday and could smell it for 6 hours. I'm starting to change my mind about this one, maybe my nose was just off the previous time

This is nice and cozy, to me. It smells like pot pourri in a basket weaved wooden bowl. Like that is the exact scent. Artificial in its sweetness, but paired with very realistic wood shavings. To me, very nostalgic, though perhaps not the most unique of scents.

This reminds me of the dry down of Gris Charnel, which IMHO is the best part of Gris Charnel. It somehow is a little rounder and has less spice to it. If Gris Charnel is a chai tea latte, this is the smoothest sugared coffee with a hefty dose of heavy cream.

I just got today! Just wow I’m in love received so many complaints I want having coffee in this beautiful place, 3 people asked me what I was wearing so I think the sillage is pretty good 🌟 sweet, woody, creamy Comforting just divine.

Intriguing, rich. Unfortunately too rich for my taste. To the point of suffocation. It definitely has an element that draws you in. But once you're in, you're begging to get out. Too strong but simultaneously pleasant.

Beautiful coffee and tonka perfume. I almost get this chocolate-y quality in the opening. The cedarwood in the dry down smells very similar to the one used The Matcha 26 from Le Labo. 8/10

Warm, soft, cozy fur with a touch of dark powdered cocoa. Imagine YSL Babycat’s fluffy, warm kitten fur without the harsher leather. My son said I smell like a baby bunny.

Smelt her in store today. She is a light, spicy, warm fragrance. I imagine drinking coffee on a winter night, with the window open.

Don't get any coffee at all, rather dark chocolate and Faber-Castell pencils. I like it even more that way actually, though.

Chocolate, tonka and chestnut notes are all balanced with beautiful woody notes. This smells very similar to Soie Malaquias

Tried most of the winter fragrances from this brand this was my favorite🔥🔥

Maximum tonka bean! This is the focus here mainly. This opens straight up with an intense impression of an amaretto coffee drink - Strong, sharp, and as much bitter as it is balanced by the sweet. The tonka used here is so strong, that is has that almost almond plastic fragrance to it, which helps create this bitter opening combined with the coffee note - a dark roast, with a chocolate edge to it. There's also some warm spices here too - as though someone added a dusting of cinnamon around the edge of your glass. To my nose, it smells like it has myrhh present in the composition, but I didn't notice it listed on the notes breakdown.... there is that almost sweet cola spiced note in here though for sure. As things dry down, this one becomes ever sweeter and more creamy. The sandalwood and cedar start to really come through at this point, becoming powdery, gentke woods and even more milky. The sandalwood here in particular is very milky, which I love! The bitter almond kick does dial down a lot with the tonka, which becomes a more sweet dry tobacco note, whilst the bitter roasted coffee note smooths out in to something a lot softer during the duration of wear. Altogether, the notes create the sense of this chai, amaretto, sweet milky, coffee beverage for me. It's pleasant and comforting - perfect for the autumn months. I like it a lot, but I feel there are similar perfumes to this with more of a wow factor.

Tried out the 2ml samples at work and as a guy on myself the scent felt very elegant elderly but in a rich grandmother type of way or a rich black auntie who has no kids and is constantly traveling abroad. I passed by a coworker 3hours into the work day and she told me- “I like what you’re wearing, it’s very strong but the smell is so soft at the same time that it’s nice. I like it” So I told her how I felt abt it and she said “not at all” she said it was sweet but that it didn’t smell like an old lady she said it was very powdery and was almost manly but she could see it as a scent for both female and male. Throughout the day she would tell me how nice I smelled so I asked her if she wanted the sample and she said yes and ended up wearing it two days later On her it smelled very feminine it was sweet and sticky like caramel but very powdery It lasted all day and I could smell her from about 7-8ft away the area were she worked was scented with a cloud of the perfume and she said that another guy coworker told her she smelled like an old lady but all the other women she works with loved it. Overall it’s very nice but more female leaning than a unisex scent 9/10

How does this remind me of a campfire glow?? It's like sweet aromatic wood is burning, but without the ash or smoke scent. I think it must be the toasty-coffee vibe kicking in. There's a sweet creaminess, which I'm absolutely sure that's sandalwood mixed with the vanilla. The sandalwood wins out though, upheld by the faint coffee... Okay, here's the scene; you're at Rivendel around a magical campfire that is burning sweet cedar logs, only there is no smoke because, duh! This is a magical land and you're sitting next to Legolas. Is he wearing sandalwood perfume (or does he just naturally smell like that?!) Idk. But you're having a lovely time, so cozy in your cashmere blankie by the smokeless fire. Oh how thoughtful! Here comes smiling Galadriel, here to join us, bringing us each a gormet vanilla latté with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. The sunset is gorgeous but the air is a bit chilly so you snuggle into your cozy blanket by the smokeless fire. Sweet cedar wood, vanilla coffee, and sandalwood... Good Gollum, it's such a lovely, cozy evening. Even though I do crave more coffee.... :)

This fragrance is light enough to be worn year round, but it definitely leans autumn. It smells like *Where the Wild Things Are*. It’s a faded, natural, minimalist, dried-out, Scandinavian autumn. The sandalwood isn’t hiding in the background; it’s overt. It’s light and creamy. With the coffee top note and tonka base, I’m getting a cappuccino accord and maybe some bitter cocoa. As it dries down, cereal accents begin to sing. It’s like a bowl of Irish oatmeal. But ultimately cedar grounds everything in dried woody foliage, and a hint of musk continuously whispers “classic luxury perfume”—all to keep the gourmand from drifting off too far into dessert territory. I think this fragrance is perfect for anyone who wishes the nutty gourmand was more pronounced (and the ambroxan was less pronounced) in L’Eau Papier. It also reminds me of Eau Duelle, but it’s drier and creamier. Opens as a pleasant sandalwood fragrance but within 30 seconds I can smell the coffee quite well. I'm just not into coffee fragrances that much so I am very picky. This began very familiar as a nice sandalwood with a vanillic feel (tonka*) and the coffee comes in and smells like realistic coffee bean note, not a brewed coffee or cappuccino... this is a gourmand for masculine men. Women who like the notes can wear it too without "smelling like a man". The quality smells quite nice, and I can smell all the the notes individually... as this fragrance settles on my skin the notes are melding together a little more. This smells like waking up from camping at 7:30AM to brew some coffee. But not over a fire (we are using gas burner & a percolator. It smells like fresh coffee bean in the woods. Too early for a proper fire or smoke though** Natural, uncomplicated, good ingredients. Not for me, but I don't hate it. Would like this one a man for a breakfast date, or camping... something casual.

This is a different kind of sandalwood, one far from from the creamy, soft sandalwoods I've gotten all too used to. It’s got a dry edge in the dried goods sense, like sun-warmed wood that’s been scorched just enough to bring out its spice, lounging on the earth weathered and rugged. The coffee accord is a bit of a ghost, though. I get dark and earthy, yes, it just doesn't read to me like roasted beans when I'm too deep in my mind to catch it. In its absence thankfully, the fragrance doesn’t lose its way, and I get a cafe vibe nonetheless—calm, steady, and profoundly quiet. A few things come to mind: The sensation of worn table bark beneath fingertips, the scent of a vanilla pod after it’s been scraped clean—warm, a little woody, cooling down into something worn-in. Grounding is the word here, a sense of space, of time that’s passed. A grounding fragrance.

This is a very soft, intimate coffee scent. It opens with a gentle, creamy coffee note with a fleeting lemony, lotion-like lift, then settles quickly into a calm, comforting, almost skin-scent style fragrance with a very subtle coffee backbone. On my skin it wears like a gently cosy personal bubble — no projection at all, but it feels good and when you are lucky enough to catch a tiny waft of it it is very lovely. It lasted on me all day. This is unquestionably beautifully made and it is very wearable, but also it feels deliberately understated. For me it works perfectly as a personal comfort scent, maybe a travel size. Imho, a full bottle is prohibitively expensive for something so meek and mild.

Smells like my old best friend’s BMW, quite nice and like other dyptiques is blended evenly where it’s pretty linear and nothing sticks out too much like you’d expect the coffee to. A little fresher familiar woods, a little coffee and tonka. The coffee reminds me of the note in Little Song by Meo, mature not brewed. Both of these scents are of a place once felt. I don’t know if I’m smelling leather or just remembering the seats with this scent but it just gives off class, leather gloves pulling up to the Grand Budapest Hotel visions come. One could say this is like a BMW, costs you a leg but doesn’t last long

I think it's great, but it's certainly overpriced for what it is. This feels like something you could easily find a decent dupe of elsewhere for a significantly lower price tag. The coffee note is really well done and not overbearing; there's a creamy sweetness that makes it more of a latte than black coffee - just the sweetness of the milk without any added sugar. It's rich and comforting, very appropriate for winter/fall. Still has a bit of that raw, natural quality that is signature to Diptyque. It's a treat but not worth a full bottle.

I didn't think I was going to like it at first. It gave amaretto cookies, and I am not big on gourmet scents. However, as minutes passed from the first blotter test spray, I kept smelling my fingers. Something in its almost coconutty creaminess kept drawing me back in. Funny, I get no clear coffee or sandalwood notes. It lives and dries down to the most delicious skin scent I have tried. However, to pay as much as they are asking, it would need to be a showstopper, and it is not. I would LOVE a 30 ml EDT on my shelf, though...

A rich and cozy scent, reminiscent of nutty, powdery cocoa butter lotion with a touch of coffee shop warmth. As it dries down, the fragrance develops a soft, sweet finish, perfect for fall and winter. Unfortunately, the longevity leaves much to be desired. It only lasted about three hours on my skin, which is disappointing given its premium price. While the scent itself is luxurious and comforting, the lack of staying power makes it hard to justify the investment.

I really like this. It's a woody coffee, with a faint tonka undertone. Smells amazingly well blended and lasts for ages on clothes and skin. I didn't buy a full bottle because it's really expensive and I have too many coffee perfumes as it is. But I enjoyed using up my sample; this one is unique in the range of coffee scents I've tried, holds a particular depth, and will probably end up on my wishlist at some point.

Very pretty. Very familiar. A similar DNA I’ve smelled before but can’t quite place. It would fit in instantly with my wardrobe. But is it too familiar? This is a warm, soft, coffee wood scent with light (very light) sweetness. The sandalwood here is similar to Santal Complet (by that, I mean on the creamier). If you love sandalwood you may really enjoy this. Give it a sample. I thinks it’s gorgeous!

This one is really nice! On me, I get mainly sandalwood and tonka. There's a bit of coffee in the background, but it's not particularly prominent. I was hoping it would be spicier, but it wasn't particularly. The drydown was fainter than I expected, but the scent lasts for days on clothes - which is great!

An interesting combination of sandalwood and coffee. It is pleasant enough, however the retail price is absolutely bonker. No self respecting customers should buy this (or any bottle from the line) because they aren't even beast mode or have ground breaking scents either.

I was surprised I ended up loving this powdery, dark sandalwood. It’s project well in both heat and cold for my skin. The powdery dustiness plays off the coffee and gives a great cocoa vibe. Not the most original concept, but well done. This is a great work scent for me.
