L'Eau de L'Eau

I had the opportunity to sample this and I'm in LOVE! This is spice heaven. An extremely balanced blend of "hot" and "cold" spices and herbs. It behaves a bit strangely on my skin: heart notes come up immediately, with a blast of cloves, lavender and geranium. I cannot detect the opening mix of citruses too much - if anything, there's the lemon-clove blend familiar to me, as a Muslim, from the "şerbet" that is usually made at funerals - a brew made of water, sugar, cloves and lemon; this fragrance reminds me strongly of that. After some minutes, I get the ginger, which becomes quite evident, but also fades fairly quickly. The overall composition, after it has settled on skin, is a very refreshing concoction of deep spices; sounds like a paradox, but that's how it is. Actually, on the right skin chemistry and in the right weather conditions, I would say this would work equally well in hot weather, as in cold weather. Definitely unisex, sporty, active, but also classy, centered and meditative. This is very sensual, but not sexy. Sillage is moderate, this is not something to get you noticed in big environments, and it sticks to skin quite well.

I love this scent! So much so I fear I'll drive off the road smelling my wrist. This is an oriental without the typical vanilla-musk-amber dry-down. It is SPICE to the 4th power. Clove. Carnation. Nutmeg. Sandelwood. It reminds me of the aroma in some antique wood boxes I have opened. LDL evokes, in me, a feeling of quiet intrigue, a mass in an ancient cathedral, a secret kept forever. Mystery and spice. Spice and mystery. I have read that Diptyque makes short-lived aromas. L'eau de L'eau must be the exception. It lasts a good 6 hours on my skin and much longer on clothing. As bold as this fragrance is, it is not rude. The sillage is fairly close to the body; you will not gas out the room like many many orientals do. This scent is mysterious, exotic, and until everyone owns a bottle, uniquely luscious.

This is a fragrance that is an acquired taste. It is complex, one minute quite fresh, the next it can be really deep and spicy. For a "l'eau" or EDT, it is quite strong and long lasting. I advise one or two sprays AT MOST, as this is all you need. You don't want to overwhelm those around you. I like the base notes with patchouli and tonka. It rounds out the scent quite well. I really pick up the ginger and cinnamon as well. The citrus opening is quite unique. Test before you buy, but this is a love for me.

The freshness of lavender, the harsh exhaled clarity of lemon as the opening note, evolving towards more structured citrus fruits, which blend with sweet warm spice notes of cloves and cinnamon, a slight pungent hint of ginger in accord with the flowers of orange, more full-bodied aromatic background. As a whole it appears citrusy, light, crystalline, sweet, evanescent but present. Delicate but timely sillage. Appreciable duration.

This is the best out of the four L'eau fragrances from Diptyque in my opinion. It is reminiscent of the original L'eau, but very fresh. It isn't a generic citrus though, it has spice and personality all it's own. I don't expect major longevity from this, but it's refreshing and I will grab for it during the hotter months of summer.

What an amazing fragrance! Lean more on the masculine side! Update after a few weeks: it is another exceptional piece from Diptyque. It is only lightly related to L'eau btw: similar notes but a different take. It is indeed lighter but lasts super long and keeps blasting hour after hour.

This was my man's scent when I met him. Eventually I started wearing it myself. It is citrusy, warm and spicy. A refreshing, feel good and sensual day in a bottle.

I love this scent,has very citrucy opening and after 10min on my skin you can smell a really sweet soft scent..stays all day with me.

What an interesting fragrance! I have yet to find a creation from Diptyque yet that suits me besides Volutes, so I'm glad I finally encountered another one. This IS as fresh as the name suggests, though also mildly sweet as well. If I could compare L'eau de L'eau to ONE thing to convey what this smells like... If you think back to the 90's, to those dot candies that came in a roll, which you had to peel off of the thin white paper (And end up eating a mouthful of paper anyway...), THAT is the entire experience that I get from this fragrance; Soft spicy sweetness, and a hint of paper. The opening is more spicy/citrus than any other part of the fragrance. Clove, lemon and cinnamon are all you get for the first 15 minutes! The rest of the fragrance is saturated with sweet lavender, which entirely tones down any spice remaining. Overall, there's a very pleasant, relaxing, neutral vibe to this scent, and it reminds me of a natural scent you'd find in an office, waiting room, doctor's office, to put people at ease. Clean, non-offensive, unisex, stress-relieving, aromatic.

This is not something I would ever dream I would enjoy, but I am loving it!I received a lovely sample and at first blast I immediately got citrus. I let it dry down an I am picking up the clove and ginger in a big way!It's Christmas time and in Dixie and our temps go from one extreme to the next...today it is a balmy 72 degrees and this perfume is zesty fresh and spicy, just what I needed to get me in the spirit of the holidays! I seem to recall SL Five O'Clock Gingembre has a similar vibe to it however, L'eau de L'eau seems a little more powdery.I am also taken back to that old barber shop talc that my grandfather used and I find it very comforting. Definitely a unisex scent, nice and inoffensive. .

At first is a bright citrus, two seconds later is the most realistic ginger, bam! I like ginger scents, but because of the cloves, this fragrance gets too spicy. But thankfully after a few minutes the fire is contained and it becomes cleaner, fresh, still very lively. If you enjoy this scent you may want to try also, Ramon Monegal's UMBRA, which has a strong Canadian fir but it feels as fresh and light as this one.

The ginger and citrus really remind me of gingerale! Very refreshing for such a spicy scent. The cloves are not as strong as most scents, but you can definitely still smell them. Great spicy scent that is not too heavy for work, daytime wear, or warm weather. My only concern is that it doesn't seem to last too long. A soft spicy scent.

The name may be daft, but the scent is decent. I evolves smoothly into something that may ideally be worn in autumn. A typical Diptyque product, unusual and unisex. ***

Elegant soapy love affair with the 1920s. Cloves and carnations and a very protective masculine warmth. This is what L'Ombre Dans L'Leau's lover wears.

This review is for Diptyque's L'eau de L'eau found it! - smells better than I expected ! In judging by the name, that is. Doesn't smell exceptionally noteworthy, but not sO horrid either. First spray refreshing zesty orange, but after one second it instantly dries down to a medicine scent (benzoine), then a sec later I get green, then it gets very WEAK & I smell geranium. Unisex, a lazy scent, it's good for November mornings when you're not wanting to smell exceptional/anything.

L'eau de L'eau opens heavily citrusy, and then suddenly nostalgia hit me like a freight train― it reminded me so deeply of something, but I could not for the life of me figure out what. I've been meaning to have my family smell it to see if it rings a bell for any of them. Then I read that it was released in 1968, which validated that surely I've smelled it somewhere before.

I agree with another reviewer, this does smell a lot like a strong chemical cleaner, some type of toilet or bathroom cleaner. It makes my head whirl. The clove and spice remind me distantly of YSL Opium, but the citrus and herbal elements for some reason are really off-putting. It's like this fragrance has facets of other fragrances that I really enjoy - the cinnamon, something green like in Elizabeth W Vetiver - but the combination ... :( it made me so uncomfortable after applying that I had to stop applying and put on something else, as I was going out to a party and didn't want to make people think I smelled very strange. Becomes more tolerable as it dries down, the geranium comes out more (smells more rosy) but never becomes something I enjoy.

This opens strongly with a sweetish, spicy citrus, then the cloves note bursts power fully through before settling down to a softer, woody spice. Not a fragrance I would wear and I believe it would suit gentlemen rather than ladies. It is somewhat remiscent of a softer version of Trumper's Bay Rum.

Repulsed by this, not exactly sure why, because I like some of its ingredients. I have a sample that I try on from time to time to see if my attitude has changed but all I can smell is a toilet cleaner. It may be the ginger and benzoin combo that puts me off.

I literally hated this. It smelled like really bad liquid christmas hand soap you buy at TJ Maxx on red sticker sale because no body else wants it. Sorry. I love other Diptyque scents so not dogging the brand -- just this one. :(
