L'Eau de Neroli

L'Eau de Neroli has been the greatest constant in my life for the past four years. A clean, citrusy, fresh scent, described as 'Froot-Loop esque' by one of my close friends, this perfume has been with me for some of the most important moments in my life. I once read a book that mentioned the concept of bottling up a memory, storing it in your mind, and keeping it there to open up and look back on every once in a while. This perfume has been that bottle that for me. Whenever I take the cap off and spray onto my wrist I'm right back to the first day of high school, going out for a round of golf with my dad, wandering the cobblestone streets of Corsica, or taking the train to New York with my mom for the weekend. There is no way I could even rate this perfume simply because of how crucial it has become to my identity. This may not be the best citrus-y floral for its value, or even the longest lasting, but its pure simplicity is what kept me coming back. L'Eau de Neroli watched me grow into the person I am today, and as I finally outgrow it, I reflect back on all the times, good and bad, and thank myself for persisting. For trying. For being imperfectly me, now and forever.

Oh, this is gooood. At first, rather savage blast of all that is great in citrus family. Than it settles in this yummy, zesty, juicy, slightly aromatic and floral cologne. It's also green and woody with perfect amount of musk. One should not underestimate the power of the good cologne. Recently, I find myself humbled by them. In insufferable sticky heat cologne is what you need. And they are not supposed to have great longevity, that's not the point. The pleasure is in the reapplying every few hours or even alternate several of them. L'Eau de Neroli is rather traditional and perfectly balanced. The aromates, beeswax and the naturality or the ingredients are keeping it far from the cleaning products territory. I usually don't enjoy sweets but I would love this to be transcribed as one of those mouth-scrunching hard bonbons. Neroli Drops, only for adults. PS: Some time ago, a friend was looking for something different, read less commercial, and citrus based and I gave her a bunch of samples. After weeks of playing with them she told me that this one was by far her favorite. Another happy and nice smelling friend.

I’ve never ordered a fragrance faster after testing it. And it’s funny because I almost hated it when I first sprayed — explosive, loud citrus! Neroli is one of my very favorite notes, so I waited for the dry down, at which point I was absolutely *obsessed* and transfixed ... I couldn’t stop smelling my wrists or the sample card!! The soft but not too sweet middle and base of this is pure magic, and a perfect balance to the sharper, fresher notes. I wanted to love Eau de Sens, their more popular neroli/orange blossom, but it just doesn’t jive with my skin chemistry that well (smells incredible on my sister in law, which makes me v jealous). This was everything I wanted from EdS, and then some. Will def be my go-to for spring and summer!

This is a light citrus and neroli scent. The initial spray is a bit strong, but it doesnt last long before it dries down to something sweet and pretty. This a truly elegant, refined and quiet summer scent. More like a real flower smell opposed to a perfume copying the scent of flowers. For me it is flawless. The longevity could perhaps be better but still not bad for a scent this light. To capture something authentic is hard, and the best scents are often the fleeting ones. Robert Frost says it well: Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.

I've never had such an immediate reaction to testing a perfume before. It's a slap of citrus followed by a sweet kiss of orange blossom. I was sent reeling into an orchard dream. Every breath of this perfume and the soft petals bloomed around me. The neroli unfolds gently but takes root firmly while the citrus wears off. This fragrance is clean and definitely soapy; I was smelling almost a fresh laundry scent after applying, but the sweetness of it keeps it beautiful. It smells like the time in a juicy Southern California June evening when the sun is still warming the sky into a million shades of orange. So lovely.

This was my first full bottle of Diptyque. This is easily unisex which I love wearing with very feminine clothing. Like others have mentioned, it is a classic cologne. Light, clean and sophisticated. It starts off with a blast of herbal neroli that is never cloying or artificial. I found this to be a more feminine version of Neroli Portofino because it's Neroli seemed more chic and less skin bracer. Got a sample of L'Eau de Hesperides with my purchase and definitely see a lot of similarities with L'eau Neroli with the former having more rosemary opposed to the tarragon in the latter.

This airy, realistic neroli opens with a zesty, photorealistic orange peel and settles into a honeyed beeswax and playful cereal-sweet base. It is a sophisticated, uplifting, and completely safe daytime summer scent that balances bright citrus with a cozy, unisex warmth. The bummer is the staying power. Just like lovely Jo Malone scents, it is fleeting. You must reapply the perfume often to get it to last more than an hour or two.

This is one of the most beautiful citrus/neroli scents. I've long been a fan of citrus since I developed my passion for fragrances. Citrus is naturally appealing to me but one major downside of it is that it's volatile and transient. I wish it could last long. Now, with L'Eau de Neroli, it finally happened. This frag is enhanced with honey, which sets it apart from other citrus scents and also prolong its life. Love it!

This is SO GORGEOUS. I adore neroli and am completely obsessed by neroli. This is a wonderful interpretation of it. Citrusy and a bit grainy like breakfast cereal. Amazing. Comparisons to Fruit Loops and Fruity Pebbles are accurate, although a crass understatement and belittling of this fragrance's true beauty. Light and safe for office use.

This a very light, very wearable warm weather fragrance. It is my go to gym scent (just 2-3 sprays) as it is not overwhelming to people around me. When I want to wear it as my SOTD, I just spray a few extra times. Not monster longevity or projection, but it smells fresh and bright. Love this one.

Smooth, effervescent and classy neroli fragrance, which is definitely worth the more than average price point. I adore the artwork: this makes me want to lie naked in a hammock under a canopy of orange trees in blossom, all the while pensively peering at a romantic ruin in the distance, too!

a burst of tart bright citruses that mellow out to a beautiful orange blossom with a touch of greenery. decent longevity and sits closer to the skin. really love to use this as a layering scent, right now especially enjoying with the eau rose edt

Despite the luscious citrus and neroli, without 20-30 mins, it dries down to musk and perhaps a bit of vanill. This keeps it warm but fresh and more season-less than other citrus/neroli parfums. I can't wait to buy this one!

The first Diptyque that I fell in love with. Neroli is the star here and it is so beautifully blended with the other notes. This is not your typical citrus scent. The drydown is warm and musky. It's so fantastic.

My family brings along tangerines when driving long distances because the scent from the peels really helps with car sickness. This fragrance is exactly that scent to me. Fresh and pure citrus peel.

this is so so beautiful. the most balanced citrus i ever smelled, fresh and bitter, a bit sweet and fruity, smells like a field of citrus in Italy with beautiful orange blossom trees all over. 10/10

Such an absolutely underrated lovely fragrance. So excited to own this. It’s fresh, zingy and lifts my spirits.

A light, classy neroli with some musk. Well suited to springtime.

Another of my lockdown time samples. Very realistic scent of fresh orange peel.There's little to no sweetness in it. Crisp citrus all the way. I get why it might remind some people of cleaning products. Citrus notes just have been very popular since decades for that purpose, but that's not really the notes' fault, is it. But there is really nothing soapy to this. It's very natural smelling. Non-perfumy. I can see this as a great non-offensive daytime summer scent. This would be the kind of fragrance, which even people who usually don't like perfumes would like. Longevity as well as sillage are moderate, which is why I would highly recommend testing it before shelling out. Don't get me wrong, it's another nice offering by Diptyque, but it doesn't wow me enough to purchase it myself. Edit: Personally if I was looking for a fresh orange fragrance, I'd go for Lancome's O de L'Orangerie. It's slightly less natural smelling, yes, but it's equally orangy fresh and a little bit better as far as longevity is concerned. A lot cheaper too.

So interesting that the last reviewer said 'I couldn't have hated this more' and I was about to write 'there's nothing not to like here.' Just shows how we all like different things. Me, I like neroli. Neroli in all ways - green, soapy, astringent, tooth-achingly sweet and folded up into rich orientals. Here, neroli is straight up, with a twist of lime rind and a medicinal dose of petit grain. It's a classic, uplifting, completely unisex cologne. I feel like neroli/citrus fragrances are the only ones in my collection I actually use up, so this definitely has a place for me, though I do find it fairly interchangeable with other neroli offerings. Some I like more (Cologne Indelible, Orangerie Venise, Eau Sens), some I like less (Basil & Neroli, C&S Neroli) but most I find easy to wear, including this one. It's a solid neroli, but lacks the complexity, femininity and longevity I get from its stable sister, Eau Sens.

This opens with too strong a version of lemon verbena on my skin, which, together with the 'citruses' creates the unlikely and altogether astounding effect of rendering this the remarketed version of 'lemon Duck' for the toilet. Please note that this is not cologne prejuduce - I am the proud owner and fervent wearer of several other men's colognes. The strangest thing happens after 20 minutes-something in it reminds me of JPG Classique. They have the orange blossom note in common ,and that is about it, 'on paper'.It must be my chemistry...And still, this comes across sweeter, perhaps due to the neroli. Enticing and intriguing, especially after the said 20 minutes. Do try it!

I see the resemblance to 4711, most likely it is intentional, as in it being an intention higher quality reinterpretation of the traditional bright citrus neroli EdC. Comparing it to the currently available formula of 4711 Eau de Neroli feels like the Michelin star meal equivalent to 4711 ready to eat meal from the frozen section. While 4711 may once have been legendary, Eau de Neroli is probably today's best alternative of a high quality soapy fresh traditional EdC type scent. Lively fresh and green bergamot verbena mix in the top dries down to a rich soapy floral base always remaining fresh and citric and lasting fairly long on my skin (approx. 3-5 hours). Very nice!

Neroli is one of my favourite notes, but this fragrance has a soapy fizziness that is a bit too high pitched. Very much a cologne scent, which is not a criticism - it's just so many people have done extraordinary things with Neroli. Diptyque has its own orange blossom masterpiece in Eau de Sens, which I would choose over this, though I should say that since neroli is a favourite note, I do still like this. It warms up to be very pleasant, with balance between sweetness and bitterness: I just prefer others (FM Cologne Indelible and Outrageous!, Armani Prive Orangerie Venise - and even the lovely Elie Saab Le Parfum).

If this lasted longer it would have immediately landed on my wishlist...it might actually land there anyway because it's such a beautiful interpretation of neroli. It's got all the fizzy, soapy freshness that I've come to love about this note but slightly subdued, like wearing a pair of sepia-tinted sunglasses while gazing into the late afternoon sky. "Hot summer nights, mid July" smell like this: showered skin still warm from the heat of the day, the air thick with sweet florals, fireflies buzzing, sitting on the porch in comfortable silence because everyone is too tired to make conversation.

I've tried Hesperides and Neroli and both are quite similar in a way. Hesperides has the spicy caraway next to the skin which makes it more masculine. Neroli is more feminine and flowery. The opening is just beautiful. A sheer burst of citrus and blossom makes it irresistible, it's olfactory effects on the brain being smiles and mood enhancement. It's aromatherapy, and like aromatherapy it doesn't last (about 1 hour on me). Such a shame but it's one I'd carry in my bag for those low moments in the day when you need a lift. Not like earlier Diptyque, but has their special lightness of touch.

I am not the guy who falls for the citrusy scents, but this Eau is very well crafted! L'Eau de Neroli is one of the best summery scent you could imagine. Zeisty and fresh, with a green, herbaceous note that stands still in the background of a bergamot-bitter orange peel, this creation is modern and refreshing. If my memory doesn't fail, I smell almost a fig leaves signature in the trail of this. Exceptional. I was gifted of a sample of this with a niche purchase. Dyptique style is growing on me. A pity just for the performances: I wish it could lasts longer.

The magic in this one is the honey/beeswax. Reminds me of the fragrance of a hair balm.. I think it was DAX Beeswax with Royal Jelly that I had. Whatever fragrance they used in that smells a lot like this juice. Kind of like a sunscreen/lotion scent in a good way. Sparkling, bright, sharp, fresh and clean with the honey in the base. I did get just a bit of the Fruit Loop vibe that another reviewer had mentioned, but it was not the first thing I thought of and definitely not a deal breaker. Will have to wear my sample in the high heat to get a feel for it.

Open on skin slightly fizzy and sharp for a microsecond then it was a nice citrusy scent. On clothing the opening citrus came with the green herby scents. Rather linear. But where is my neroli!?! The citrus certainly drowned it all. Retested it with more sprays to similar results. Only silage increased a little with the sprays. Edit. Okay after about an hour, neroli showed up and it was rather pleasant. Unfortunately it only lasted on skin for about four hrs. But still faintly projecting after twelve hours.

I love this scent, I never into Citrus scent before I think because I don’t like Lemon scent in it ( reminded me the dish soap) but this one is lovely I mean there are still lemon and bergamot but the neroli changed my thought about it, it’s fresh, easy to wear on hot whether, has powdery woody scent in it. Sadly it’s only last for 2 hrs. The price at department store way to pricy ( around 210 USD for 100ml) but for duty free / imported shops are acceptable

Zesty, crisp, lovely - and fleeting. Well worth a try if you love neroli (I do, so much...) as this is a very transparent and honest picture of that gorgeous summery smell. Unisex because it's more about a feel of freshness and beauty than girly-girliness, but some men may feel it a bit on the feminine side. But yes, it's a cologne; on me it's gone after a couple of hours (the same as the Atelier line, btw, and the Diptyque is nicer imho.)

A nice, if generic neroli scent. Kinda has a fruit loop cereal smell. If this is your first neroli scent, I’d say it’s a pretty good introduction. But you won’t need to explore much beyond this. I would personally recommend Capri from 19-69 as a substitute as it is more natural smelling, and slightly more pleasant to my nose. But this one is a bit greener than Capri.

goes on heavy but dries down into something a lot lighter and more ideal for warm weather. doesn't last as long as i would like for it to, and it seems a bit one dimensional. but as one of my first real neroli fragrances i've sampled, it seems like a nice entry into that note. I'll probably continue sampling other nerolis before committing to a full bottle of this.

Very yummy and reminds me of Froot Loops. I actually do like neroli in other scents (Kilian Love, Giorgio Armani Si Fiori) as it imparts a candy quality. Diptyque does citruses really well! Oyedo is another favourite. Sillage and longevity are moderate. I think I do go nose blind to this as when I shower the scent seems reactivated.

smells less like neroli and more like lemon peel. almost has the same scent as when u squeeze lemons on fish. it doesnt smell fishy or savoury at all dont get me wrong. it just evokes that memory eau des sens is the real neroli fragrance

When I first tried this perfume, I thought it was a bit too masculine and a little disappointed because I wanted to own it due to its pretty bottle. Tried it again today, and it was quite pleasant. I like the sharp bits of it.

This is a grown woman's spring break trip scent: cocktail hours, spa florals, laying in the sun. Stays pretty soft, at least on my skin, and kind of fades into the background but I get a nice whiff every once in a while.

At first spray on the skin the beautiful high notes of the citrus come through, delightful. This layer does fade relatively quickly, within 20 minutes, and a warm and lightly sweet floral is left, somewhat jasmine.

I liked this. There’s no wow factor. Nothing unusual, or even very interesting about the scent. It’s just really nice. Blended well, inoffensive. Uplifting but in a gentle way. It feels friendly.

Typical, nice neroli / petitgrain. Not overly mature but in 2023, all neroli based scents seem mature. Nothing special or particular.

This instantly transports me back to Italy when I was young. Very fresh, delightful fragrance. Love it!!

Probably the best neroli I've tried.

Diptyque L’Eau Néroli begins with a most lucid burst of citrus, sharpening into straight sour zest for the first few seconds before gradually dispersing to reveal sunlit orange blossoms entwined with crisp green leaves that shimmer with morning dew. It is a scent both radiant and gossamer, true to its name: as if woven from cool droplets sliding down sun-warmed fruit and the ethereal glow of neroli, cradled by the crispness of petitgrain. But alas, this spell is fragile. The brilliance dims far too soon, dissolving into a tangled thicket of white florals in which I somehow detect an overindulgent jasmine. In a mere half hour's time, the once airy fresh L'eau Neroli has transformed into this languid floral haze, directionless and lacking in much clarity or poise. It drifts without purpose, a wraith of its former self, a ghost of what could have been—tragic yet all too common an occurrence.

At first I was unpleasantly surprised, as I couldn't get over the citrusy clearning detergent association: the citrus note was stinging and very in-your-face. The dry-down is much smoother and honey-like, but it's a much less discernible citrus note now as the basenotes take over. Alas, at this point L'Eau de Neroli has lost most of its projection, which I expect from Diptyque but I was hoping that the citrus would linger for longer.

Neroli is one of my favorite notes. I am usually sure to prefer a fragrance that has neroli in the name. I had high hopes for L'Eau de Neroli, but on my skin, it veers into bug-spray or dish detergent territory upon opening. Not too long after, it evolved into something sweet, softer, and lightly muskier, but not that enjoyable or great.

this was more floral forward than citrus dominated to me. classic, neroli florals. very clean and almost soapy.

Very typical and boring neroli fragrance. I also pick up on the orange blossom.

I tried it at the store and really liked it, so I brought home a sample. Well, this is the most expensive dishwasher soap scent you can buy. If you want to smell like you've just had a long day of washing dishes, this is right for you. If you want something interesting, something with a personality and depth, well, this is not it.

Diptyque #3 – The ACTUAL reference Neroli. I yearn to dwelve blindly into the world of Diptyque but it seems like the house had a different ideea in mind. After experiencing Ofresia, the next random sample i’ve picked up was L’Eau de Neroli and yet again the name hints at what i should expect so the surprise factor is undercut. Ofresia to me felt like it set a pace and a guideline on what to expect from Diptyque perfumes. Clean, relatively simple and mellow but good quality perfumes. I had a similar experience with the Essential Parfums discovery set but the difference with Diptyque is that they aim for a more natural aproach whilst Essential Parfums embraced synthetics for utilitarian reasons. So far it would seem like my observation is valid because L’Eau de Neroli also presents a natural Neroli accord and places it directly in the spotlight. I’ve said it before in other reviews that the Orange tree has one of the greatest influences on perfumery because i cannot think of any other organism that lends itself to perfumery as much. Almost all the elements of the orange tree are used in perfumery, from its fruits to the blossoms all the way to the twigs and leaves in the form of petitgrain. Neroli is a very distinct accord and it presents itself beautifuly to my nose, giving me no issues in detecting the full range of its facets. Its bold, sharp, bitter, herbal with a soapy undertone. The difference between orange blossom and neroli lies in the extraction method of the oil. Orange blossom oil extracted through the use of fats yields a sweeter, more delicate and more soapy oil whilst Neroli results from steam-distillation of the flowers thus resulting in a sharp, herbal and fresh spicy oil. Neroli or orange blossoms are often associated with the scent of clean sheets and that stems from its soapy nouances and its common use in laundry products. I myself do not make that association because i lean towards the masculine and barbershop-clean interpretation. The sharp yet natural aspect of Neroli made it a good inclusion in classic masculine fougeres or aromatics and thats where my mind wanders aswell. L’Eau de Neroli is a simple scent that pretty much boils down to this single accord and for this i would be inclined to call it a soliflore perfume. To be honest, calling it soliflore scratches my brain a bit because altho technically orange blossoms are flowers, i wouldn’t call the resulting accord as a floral one but instead an aromatic. L’Eau de Neroli builds this accord perfectly without any other interfering elements and this is the biggest advantage of the fragrance. In the past i’ve called Neroli Portofino as a reference neroli perfume but this one overtakes it in that regard. It suits both as an education tool and a great, natural smelling fragrance. If you love Neroli then i urge anyone to look no further. I doubt one could find a better fragrance that bases itself strictly on it. One could argue that the price is steep for an unidimensional perfume but the quality of the rendition could justify the cost.
