Ofresia Eau de Toilette

The fragrance of freesia is known to be difficult to capture realistically in fragrance. There have been several approximations, but many fall short, and may come off as a bit too screechy and reminiscent of a V05 shampoo or bug spray. The high linalool content in the aromatic structure of freesia seems to often be its stumbling block. Olivia Giacobetti's Ofresia, however, seems to come as closest to it, which comes as no surprise, given her often spectacular deftness with florals. Ofresia begins with the invigorating and airy pepperiness that is characteristic of freesia blooms, and a cheerful, yellow-green-hued aroma soon follows, almost "solar" in nature. There are facets that are reminiscent of dandelion and magnolia, with something that I can only describe as a zestiness. I also discern undertones of green tea, narcissus and even gardenia. It does all read to me as that of white or yellow freesias that somehow occupy a space between ethereal and fleshy. It makes for a great complement to the rainy May day today, cutting through the damp, cool air. This is to freesia as Giacobetti's En Passant is to lilac.

Testing this one out this week, and it’s absolutely intoxicating but simple a d soft at the same time. I LOVE it! I don’t like perfumes that smother me. And this one rides the line perfect, you identify it clearly, and it’s delicious and bright, clean floral, and the longevity is perfect, which shocks me because it is not over powering during any stage. It’s pure innocence, a prairie blooming with purple flowers in the warm sun. The green comes through . So clean, fresh, soft, floral, I’m so in love. I think the mixed reviews must be due to the square bottle version. This is a full bottle purchase for sure for me. Update: bought the full bottle and even more in love with it! Never smelled anything more perfect in my life. Update 1.5 month after purchase: started smelling a tiny bit soapy ocassionally when I spray it. Might be something to do with the detergent im using mixing with it to Lean it too much that way. Still love it to death, but it’s become more of a once or twice a week perfume and Gucci Bloom is current every day.

This very simple and clean fragrance smells like freshly cut spring flowers: freesia and narcissus. You can smell the fresh, soft greenness of the stems...this screams springtime, although quietly and prettily and without the brash notes of more obvious flowers. I don't get any pepper at all and the wood base is barely noticeable. This is an all-age fragrance: you could wear it at any age without it being typecast. The sillage is skin-scent to moderate when the wind blows...it's a scent for you and those you allow to be extra-near. Longevity is moderate, but I did re-apply just to continue to get stronger whiffs of the scent. This reminds me a little of that discontinued scent Spring Rain from Crabtree & Evelyn, although it's much more linear and less complicated. Ofresia simply is what it is: a soliflore that is intimate and fresh. Perfect for pulling me out of the winter doldrums!

May 2016. I've been testing this since Feb. My new bottle will be arriving shortly. Did not know there were "versions" of this. I've only been introduced to the oval bottled EDT. I LOVE this one. It is so beautiful. To me it is strictly floral. I don't smell wood, fruit or even pepper. It smells as if the flowers were "juiced" and that liquid is contained in the bottle. FRESH! A bit green. Natural. I am looking forward to wearing this quite a bit this spring and summer. Today my application has lasted all day. Applied early morning and as I lie in bed at 11:30pm I can smell it quite easily. *As with all Diptyque fragrances, I suggest you test this one on your skin for a day or more before you purchase. They tend to smell differently on everyone depending on body chemistry, weather, skin/clothing, etc.

So far, Ofresia is the only Diptyque fragrance with which I have fallen in love. I was not originally given any notes for this scent, just a blind sample, and it was love at first sniff. On me, the slight pepperiness is a distinct part of the scent, and with any other name, I would never guess at an attempt to reproduce freesia. The overall effect reminds me more of sweet pea than of freesia. Most amazing about this scent of all is that despite its light gentle character it lasts forever on me, and is very noticeable to me! Most things which smell this light are gone relatively soon. I can't guarantee that will happen to others, but it has been my experience. In addition, this perfume isn't really like anything else I have, so I could justify "needing" a bottle of it!

Oh! Freesia! When I was in my 20's a friend of mine died. Suddenly, inexplicably and without warning. It changed everything and all of us. At her funeral her husband asked us to bring freesias, her favourite flower. I'd never really considered the humble freesia before, it's easy to be drawn to something more showy...the rose, the iris. When I found out about it I so wanted to try Ofresia because I've never smelt a true likeness before. Diptyque are alchemists. They have created freesia in a bottle. There is pepper, but on me it's mostly flower. The pepper feels like the twitch in your nose you get when you smell a real flower and inhale a bit of pollen. I have to say it's magic for me. This one is for Lynn. She would have loved it.

This is a linear, spicy floral perfume. It is crisp, green, and therefore best suited for spring and summer, although I enjoy wearing it in the winter. There is something about Ofresia that feels cold to me, like frosted flowers. It's funny that others here note they don't smell pepper. The pepper is very strong to my nose! It is my favorite part of this simple perfume because it makes it a little different from your everyday soft floral scent. Ofresia, despite its EDT assignment, has really great longevity on my skin–the silage is moderate for the first few hours before becoming quieter. It is an underrated Diptyque that I've grown to love!

Love love love this scent. My absolute favourite fragrance. It's what hooked me to the House of Diptyque and into perfumery in general. Freesia is one of those flowers nearly impossible to extract its natural "fragrance" from (many in the distillation process are artificial imitations of what freesia is supposed to smell like) due to the chemical structure of its oils, so the fact that Diptyque's nailed this ephemeral single-note into a most natural and pure concentration is incredible. Just magic, and beautifully simplistic.

I did not sense any pepper, also. The pepper must be there, because at first spray there is a fragile, invisible note-the opening moments are thin, clear...it disappears very quickly, and then comes the freesia. The woodsy notes, I did not notice, really. I am so impressed by this scent-that I feel like I "should" write a long, luscious review..the scent is lucious, garden like at moments...but really, itś very simple-itś all wonderful, pure, full, fresh, never sweet or cloying-freesia

I really enjoy this fragrance. I do think that the name is a misnomer since they can't actually replicate the fragrance of freesia very well. This fragrance smells of white Easter lilies to me with a touch of nutmeg. I prefer this over the Olene. I do agree with a few of the other reviewers who mentioned that this does not have much lasting power. I have to spray lightly with this one, however, because it has the potential to induce a headache if sprayed too heavily.

My signature fragrance at the moment. I am already on my second bottle. The opening is fresh floral with a hint of spiciness; just a small hint, and the freesia scent is just a wee intoxicating without being overbearingly sharp. Then it gradually dries down with the scent of freesia, combined with peppery elements, resulting to an earthy dry down, and this sits well for as long as it lasts. I've had quite a few compliments on this one. In short, I love it!

During the 2020 quarantine, Ofresia makes me want to put away all my winter clothes and walk shoeless through the Spring garden. Crunchy earth and clean air make room for a fresh, transparent freesia. I pick up lily of the valley and moss in the drydown along with the namesake flower. Ofresia is an underrated gem—from two decades ago—that manages to smell timeless. Very good performance for an EDT. A beautiful execution on a seldom used floral.

This perfume remind me of when a soft wind blow through a bouquet of fresh cut, velvety white freesia with green leaves that I usually put in a vase next to the windows. The scent is beautiful soft, not loud by any mean, something I'd love to wear to smell on myself. Olivia Giacobetti nose are immaculate as always, all of my blind buy from her are my favourite. This one is good for any occasion honestly, elegant and inoffensive

The one and only. I'm that type who is in love with white florals in perfumes, and a fan of natural ingredients. It's hard for me to find a floral scent that I can wear - they are usually way too sweet for me or too synthetic. So far I haven't found anything like Ofresia, just so naturally unique, gentle, powdery and fresh! Can wear it all the time, I just love feeling myself in it!

Freesia blooms in early spring and this is the perfect scent for the first days in March when it feels like the world is coming back to life. Beautiful fresh floral. Smells natural while still being clean and bright, like freshly cut dewy flowers. Feels close to the skin but great to catch a whiff of it on the wrist throughout the morning.

This is so soft and light, a beautiful floating floral, watery and fresh, reminds me of fresh cut flowers and milk tea. But in addition to that there is this spicy clove-y aspect, which gives it more dimension and makes it versatile for any season. It is at the same time fresh, sparkly, uplifting and cozy, sweet, comforting.

This has a low rating here, is rarely mentioned in threads, and seems to be about the least popular fragrance from Dyotique. Well, it’s a love for me. This is gorgeous and different. I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. I do think you have to enjoy heavy white florals to like this though.

Floral-centric perfumes tend to be a little too heavy for me but this one hits different. It smells like freshly cut flowers in a vase - fresh, green, elegant and sweet without being cloying. The second scent from Giacobetti after Philosykos that has become a favorite.

Peppery and fresh! You can certainly smell the freesia. This one reminds me so much of a flower shop — you can smell all the greens and the beautiful scent of freesia. This is definitely suited for spring or summer, and is absolutely perfect for casual, daily wear.

This is perfect for people who want to be simple yet elegant, pepper and freesia together make this so good in any situation, can't go wrong with this. Performance is interesting as sometimes it is very good and others it becomes a skin scent

This is an uplifting spring scent. Perfect for a May day. I don't notice the pepper or woodsy notes; it is all floral on me, but very fresh and not too sweet. I put it on thirteen hours ago and it is still going strong. I love Diptyque.

Beautiful watery white floral, quite green. I didn’t get much of a pepper note at all; to me, this had strong tea notes instead, almost exactly like a milky jasmine.

Giacobetti may have converted me to florals because Ofrésia and En Passant both smell like actually putting your nose to a flower, not just the idea of flowers

In this perfume, the pepper makes it - brings a well done twist in the fresia dominated fragrance - otherwise it would be to boring and one-dimensional for me.

Most realistic flower fragrance I've ever tried, ever. The absolute opposite of "perfumey", this is like wearing real flowers. Absolutely incredible.

I’m not sure that this smells like freesia in nature, but it does smell like one of the most realistic spring flower scents I’ve ever smelt! It smells like a bunch of flowers, even if I’m not sure what the flowers specifically are. I find this one perfectly balanced and very pretty. The wood and pepper doesn’t overpower the floral notes to my nose but I guess it smells quite different to some people. It certainly is linear but it’s really lovely. Oddly enough, unlike many other reviews here I don’t get greenness and dandelion stems from Ofresia, but I get tons of that in another Diptyque called Olene. Ofresia is flowers on me and not a huge amount else. *Just updating to say that this is still mainly floral but in the hotter weather, it's noticeably greener and has a much louder black pepper note. The pepper makes my nose tingle but it's good and gives this a spicy kick. The greenery smells leafy but not bitter or like dandelion. The flowers here are still sweet and blossom-like.... It's so pretty! The closest perfume I've found in terms of the feeling of wearing Ofresia, is Belle de Grasse from Fragonard. That's a yellow floral.... a green and fluffy, powdery mimosa (and lilac). Ofresia is a pinky purple floral.... green and fluffy, powdery freesia (and probably also lilac!). They don't smell the same but they are so similar in texture and vibe!

My first sniff of Ofresia was quite disappointing because it reminded me of the Vert au Jasmin L'Occitane en Provence, which was gifted to me but rarely used because I cannot stop associating it with jasmine toothpaste. The top note is 80% similar between these two, with mentholated jasmine being the dominant scent. But after giving Ofresia some more tries, I found the difference between the two is enough for me to keep Ofresia. The Vert au Jasmin has a cooling menthol note from the beginning to the end and has a sickening underlying artificial sweetness. Ofresia, on the other hand, becomes creamy and natural with a hint of stem sap. The white floral in Ofresia tends to have a "rotten" feeling like the end of a white flower's blossom, without the bitter/tea-like scent of new buds that I hate. I just have to wear Ofresia on my skin in warm weather instead of on fabric to get rid of the menthol top note as quickly as possible. Update a month later: I don't associate it with toothpaste anymore. But on fabric it still smells very much like jasmine. On skin, it shows more sap smell. I'm ok with wearing it, and my husband likes this one over many of my other fragrances. But I am still disappointed that I don't get the "field trip nature smell" other reviewers got.

This is my signature scent (at the moment, anyway). It's a polyvalent, light and airy soliflore that evokes innocence, happiness and the joy of taking the time to smell a flower. It's a light unapologetic freesia and I hardly ever smell the pepper. on me it lasts about 4-5 hours and the drydown is a pretty reminiscence of the opening (if that makes sense). I absolutely love it. There is no sweetness to this fragrance, which I appreciate. The simplicity of it takes away from the feeling of wearing perfume. Light sillage and not for those who want to make a strong impression. Got a lot of compliments that it suited me and never felt like it was overpowering or sickening. Next time you're at a Diptyque counter, try it out! It needs more love.

Lucky me! i could get all the notes linearry with time. Yes, the beginning is very peppery but it calms down in 5-10 mins. Then I got freesia and something green (I prefer to say green but at instances it reminded me something rotting - like chance25 explained below 'like the water a bouquet of flowers has been sitting in after a few days'), though this kinda rotting note i could not detect on fabric, only on my skin. So it might only be my skin? The drydown is the loveliest of all, sweet freesia with some woods. All in all, could not be my signature but I think I like it and would be nice to have it on my shelf.

This is the first perfume I ever bought, after spraying it onto paper. Sadly when I got it home I discovered that the fresh freesia scent underlined with pepper that I had loved in the shop, on my skin smelt sharply & horribly of pepper first, and the freesia scent went sour and 'off'. I persevered with that bottle for months and several people commented on my 'nasty old lady' perfume. I've smelt it on other people and I still love it...on them! Like the reviewer above, Diptyque scents always smell as if they've gone off on me. Oh well.

A lilac-green watercolor composition, simple and a bit sharp, on the border of resulting high in pitch but without falling in it completely. A cold eau if compared to the sunnier and crisper Eau Rose and having to choose between the two I’d probably go for the latter but Ofresia remains a nice option if you’re more in the mood for colder tones. Personal snapshot: it reminds me of early morning Edinburgh violet skyies, after another night of endless rain. Ofresia is a girl from the north country.

Well, its all about freesia and pepper. Freesia are tender bulbs that tend to be grown in pots in the UK. I keep mine in my greenhouse through the cokd months. Freesia already has a peppery fragrance so rather surprised for the perfumer to add black pepper. This is definitely a fragrance for freesia fans. I find the smell of freesia can easily be overwhelming but its been handled with care here and I find it a very wearable summer fragrance. Moderate sillage and longevity.

I don’t know about the current version, but I have a bottle I bought circa 2004, and after having it in the back of my perfume cabinet and not worn it for many years, I applied some last night before going to bed -and to my amazement I can still smell it clearly on my skin and emanating from it. So sad to see here it seems to have lost its longevity in later reformulations, as so many former monsters seem to have these days.

Testing my sample; this is a photorealistic vase of fresh-cut florals, some have had their heads snapped off so you get that stemmy vegetal green vs. the petals. I'm getting a blend of lilacs and freesia and another flower I cannot for the life of me put my finger on. This is a great summer fragrance if you want an olfactory refresher to 'clear the nose' so to speak. Sticks around arms' length, definitely worth sampling.

Tried it out and on me it smells like a full bush of lilacs. I smell like a bouquet of fresh flowers and it's amazing. Very fresh, even a little green, can't smell the peppers or wood in it, but can smell a tiny bit of soap. It smells clean as if i just came out from a flower bath. A bit of jasmine. A total spring fragrance.

So lovely, breezy, and soft. The pepper and woodsy notes blend with the freesia so well you can't detect them individually. Ofresia makes me feel like I'm relaxing on a hammock amongst hummingbirds and velvety flower petals. Unfortunately the lasting power is not so great (two hours max), as with most Diptyque scents.

fresh and nice. almost a little sweet whit all the Freesia. not very peppery Imo, but just a wiff to make it lighten up. woodsy notes , yes abit . like smelling the tree after you broken off a branche. Nice , and fresh , but not all that interesting. A bit to simple in the notes for my tast. but otherwhise Lovely

Opens quite green, like a broken stalk, almost bitterly. Blooms beautifully into a wonderful white flower. Is this how freesia smells in reality? I wouldn't know. But it sure is beautiful. However, this one is not for me; not only because my best friend wears it, but also because it is a tad too linear on me.

Lovely. Utterly flowery, but not in that terrible, overly synthetic way most florals are nowadays. Ofrésia seems natural. It has surprising sillage and depth considering how light it seems at first. Dewy is a really good word to describe Ofrésia. The opening is rather green with lilac-like floral tones.

This is extremely lovely floral scent. I don't get any pepper, but I get fantastic, sweet and romantic freesia followed by some green notes. It's extremely feminine and enjoyable, but I find it too sweet to add this to my want list. Worth a try though.

A freesia with sweet pepper. Ofresia is how I'd imagine a fairy smelling in a fairy-tale! Floral and zesty, not complex but very unique. So unique that I wouldn't know at all with what to wear this. Nice to sniff on my arm once in a while though!

a green fresh floral, with the pepper as a bit of an edge. smells like spring to me, and very diptyque. very long-lasting for en eau de toilette.

Beautiful and clean freesia scent, quite versatile and can be worn dressed up and down. Truly a classic.

This is what innocence smells like.

Freesia, crisp and a little green, but not the kind that fills a room—more like a single stem in a glass of water, delicate, almost too thin to notice. The scent not of standing inside a flower shop, but of pacing outside of it. It does have this peppery note that gives it a little prickle of sharpness reminiscent of the real floral, but it fades just too quickly, leaving behind clean, vague, a touch too much so. It never gets too sweet, never turns too powdery, but also just never really lands anywhere. There’s a pleasant freshness to it, but not in a way that feels dewy or anything remarkable. More like fresh-cut stems, pale green and slightly floral, pretty enough. But light to the point of forgettable. It doesn’t bloom, doesn’t develop much, just stays in this in-between space of "um okay ig.” A nice choice, but nice has never quite been enough.

I’m not getting freesia. Freesia the flower is an incredible scent, and very difficult to reproduce (the closest I have found in perfumery was the long discontinued Sculpture by Nikos) - Ofresia is more like a dandelion scent, when you break off a stem and the white sap oozes out. Green and little bit vegetal creamy with a hint of yellow flowers. Not freesia but interesting in its own right.
