It annoys me that a good amount of the perfumes I love don't have a listed perfumer. Also, why did Diptyque discontinue Opsis and not Eau Rihla or Eau Nabati? Doesn't make any sense. Update: Someone informed me it was a Harrods exclusive and still is, so not discontinued 😊. And the perfumer is Fabrice Pellegrin, who has worked many times with Diptyque and also created Yves Saint Laurent 24 rue de l'Université. Diptyque Opsis smells similar but more feminine to the unisex Gaiac 10 Tokyo Le Labo and YSL 24 rue de l'Université. It has a stronger presence of amber made clear with an iris and borderline sparkling bergamot that work perfectly and symbiotically with the slightly warmed woods and clean incense. Opsis is sweeter than them both because there's this really soft chapstick-lipstick iris base, also found in Ex Nihilo Honore Delights, that the woods rest on. The warm sweet amber and citrus remind me of a better version of New Notes Musk Complexity without the whiskey and cinnamon that came off as the Fireball drink. Opsis also has this very clean spiced incense I appreciate; it being more present here and in 24 Rue from the olibanum note. Some may think this composition is simple, but I think it's a masterpiece blend. FYI: I can't downvote Dior New Look enough. They do not smell similar.

Gorgeous! 👏🏿👏🏿 Upon first spray, I get subdued incense intermingled with musk. I also detect a woody accord, similar to cedarwood, albeit not listed in the notes. I don't get a discernable citrus (bergamot) accord to my nose. If I were to smell this without looking at the notes, I don't think I would have guessed that this fragrance contained bergamot. The iris note is also quite prominent in the fragrance yet this note doesn't come across as blatantly floral, but rather powdery. I think this powderiness is what sets it apart from its cousin, Gaiac 10. The added iris note also makes Opsis slightly more multi-faceted than Gaiac 10. I love Gaiac 10, but its longevity was one of the main factors deterring me from a full-bottle purchase. However, Opsis has far better longevity. During the drydown, a slightly sweet musky accord dominates and you get constant wafts of this throughout the day! I also think it's a very versatile scent, and could easily become somebody's signature. I feel as though you could pull this off in any climate and you could wear it on any occasion. It has enough presence, whilst maintaining a subtlety to it! It's an easy wear, in my opinion! 😊

My goodness... what a marvel 😍 Opsis is, for me, a work of art that you can only buy at Harrods. I don’t know if that exclusivity is what psychologically makes it feel so special, but I’m completely obsessed with it. It’s hard to describe. If I didn’t look at the notes, I would say it smells like a kind of milky, soapy cream, very musky, slightly sweet, with a hint of pepper and a super subtle touch of incense, plus some creamy white flowers like jasmine or tuberose. But to my surprise, it doesn’t list those flowers. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there. It doesn’t smell feminine like many jasmine or tuberose perfumes, yet the feeling of clean creaminess is incredibly addictive. It’s like sleeping on a white, creamy cotton cloud while fairies float around sprinkling pepper and incense dust. It costs what it costs, but I don’t mind. For a perfume like this, and especially for its exclusivity, I’m happy to pay for it, particularly if you are a true enthusiast and want to take home a scented memory from your trip to London 😍 PS be very careful with counterfeits, this brand has a huge number of them already spread throughout all places.

Opsis feels like my two favourite Diptyque fragrances rolled into one. It has the comforting musk and powdery iris of Fleur de Peau, but without its soapiness, paired with the dusty woodiness of Eau Duelle, all wrapped in a transparent veil of frankincense that gives it a unique character. Though not listed in the notes, I get creamy sandalwood in the base with a subtle, ambery sweetness that makes it quite chic and addictive. There's also a peppery note in the opening that dissipates quickly. It opens strong before gradually softening into an airy scent bubble that lingers beautifully for hours. I can easily see this becoming my signature scent for the cooler months. To me, this doesn’t smell similar to Gaiac 10, which is one of my favourite skin scents. They share frankincense and musk, but the composition is completely different.

silky, sultry, powdery perfection. pure glamour. there's a spiciness to it that never seems to go acknowledged in the notes or reviews, maybe i'm crazy? or maybe it's just my skin chemistry? but the inital powdery, musky opening blossoms into this creamy, heady, subtly spicy concoction after it's settled into the skin. it's like a creme anglaise with a sprinkle of crushed black pepper running through it. but there's also this perfect clean skin scent underpinning the whole thing - freshly washed, powdered with a fluffy powder puff and some shimmering gold dust. it feels like the perfect scent of Art Deco, opulent and golden and heady with iris and woods and something akin to stage makeup baking into the skin under hot lights. agh! love! such a shame it's only a harrods exclusive, but totally worth it.

So.... Sampled gaiac 10 at le labo but it was in February and was told I would have to wait until September. I loved the Smokey musc I got from it and did some research and discovered diptyque had a scent similar! Diptyque is my favorite fragrance house so I was thrilled! Only problem... I could only get it from the UK 😩 so I pulled the trigger and did a blind buy. I am beyond ecstatic that this is better than Gaiac 10 in my opinion. Has more depth and layers! Omg I’m so happy with the purchase and this is hands down my new favorite fragrance and will definitely make this my new signature scent!

One of the best if not the best diptyque. While most are nice but fairly linear in the development, opsis can stand alongside masterpieces of perfumerie like POAL or Une fleur de Cassie or Ambre supreme. It fully embraces the point of view of a performer in these Victorian era theaters. Opening: the excitement of the actor before the performance - peppery and spicy Middle: the performance - iris powdery, ambery, opulent but timid Base: the performance is over and the actor finally relaxes - an amazing olibanum Please try it if you can get ur hands on it

This is so captivating. The opening on my skin is very peppery but that doesn't last long. The blast of pepper gives way to a soft and sophisticated blend of powdery cool toned iris and musk. There aren't many feminine facets to this, despite being powdery I'd say it is totally genderless. As per usual for Diptyque the ingredients feel high quality and I especially enjoy the type of musk in here. This is cosy yet refined, good for days when you want to feel put-together, a strong like.

For so few notes I am blown away by how stunning this fragrance is, it is knockout gorgeous! I'm a novice, so can only give you what it feels to me like it smells like, and I definitely don't have the first clue what olibanum smells like, but the overwhelming initial impression for me is sweet nutmeg and it is just simply beautiful! Sweet, warm and a little spice and floral. It's killer expensive as a blind buy, but if you can grab yourself a sample then do!!!

If Gaiac 10 is a Virginia Slim, Opsis is a clove cigarette from Indonesia. Not as smoky at all, definite clovey/nutmeggy smell. Sweetly powdery, very subtly floral. To me doesn't replace my need for Gaiac 10 (my $70/5ml sample from Scent Split is my most cherished juice). Can't tell if this will be horrible in the heat, but luckily San Francisco is rarely hot. Smells lovely. If this was a color I think it would be mauve.

I purchased a 5ml decant from a woman in my Facebook perfume group and I was instantly in love. It is absolutely gorgeous! I immediately bought a full bottle at Harrod's in London. It is such an elegant perfume and makes me feel beautiful. It's a beautiful iris with spice and woods, musk and sweet in the dry down. It lasts a very long time on my skin as well. This is my new signature set for 2026.

Backstage of a West End theatre performance, ropes being pulled for the final curtain, and the busy powder room backstage full of chatter. I'm impressed how a perfume like this can evoke such an exquisite emotion - Diptyque has done it yet again! It's full of wood and spice, a very gorgeous and unisex scent with great longevity. A must have for collectors.

Of all the fragrances in this DNA this is the best. Lasts very long time. Several hours, 6+ on skin, and 10+ on cloths. Beautiful, creamy and rich. Comforting and addictive. It’s very hard to describe as the powdery aspect isn’t like any other. The creamy isn’t lactonic necessarily. It so much easier to describe it as textural as soft, creamy and smooth.

This is a sweet Gaiac 10. I love G10 this is just as good but if you don’t like sweet scents you may not like this as it’s turned up quite a bit. For me i have a 5ml decant and will be ordering a FB as soon as possible. In my opinion it’s a soft slightly smoky sweet comforting scent paired perfectly with a chill evening along with your favorite wine.

May sound strange but, to me, the dry down smells like eggnog with cedar in the background. I really like it but I purchased a 10ml mostly bc it's an iris fragrance, I just don't get much iris. If you want iris, Iris Malikhân is the way to go! Opsis is gorgeous though!

Absolutely need. There is a moment where you smell cumin/ BO at around 5-10 min and then it goes away and turns into an elevated sandalwood in oak+guac 10. F*^^^^^^ck. Finally found a "clear" scent I feel is true to me.

Spicy, peppery, slightly smokey, amber forward frag on me. Has slight pencil shaving and medicinal note. Doesn't seem to last long on my skin. However, I love it.

The perfumer is Fabrice Pellegrin. He's done a great job with this one - it's very good.

CURRENT UPDATE: all the notes I wanted to stay in this fragrance kind of disappear, and a very sweet, dark, powdery musk is the main focus of this fragrance. For me, that’s not exactly what im looking for, but absolutely this still smells REALLY good. I personally want the incense and pepper that gets teased in the opening. Still deciding. OUTDATED REVIEW BELOW (after first wear): Just got this blind purchase in the mail (: so I’m gonna write my first wear experience below. definitely pepper, maybe pink AND black pepper. Also definitely a woody / incense. After only a couple minutes I feel it having a very clear front-facing scent, but I can smell a cloud of mysterious other notes floating around behind it waiting to rise up. They smell a very TINY bit sweet (the perfect amount) and I think it’s in part due to white musks, I also smell a bit of damp wood, the type you’d find at a home construction in the woods/forest/mountains after rain. In a great way. I can’t tell. When you smell your skin directly, it’s more of the incense/ wood and pepper, but I can smell a cloud when I’m not close to my arm of subtle powdery sweetness. As the fragrance evolves, it’s more of a sweet floral musk (which normally i don’t always love) but with a lightweight base of woody incense. Opsis opens up rapidly into a beautiful, welcoming but very mysterious fragrance. I definitely see the resemblance to gaiac 10 from Le Labo, but this is almost exactly what I wanted Gaiac 10 to be (cause gaiac is disappointing for me, and the way it’s described is exactly what I wanted). Wow. I think this is a rare love at first sniff. UPDATE: as it wears, it gets really sweet.. it’s a beautiful sweetness but leaning feminine and generally I don’t like this much sweetness, I just like subtle delicately balanced sweetness. I have to test for a bit to see if this is too much, but this is when the slight makeup smell comes out. If I’m being honest, the opening is like the PERFECT scent ive been looking for forever, so I’m sad it changes so drastically... but I’ll be trying to ignore that when deciding. Also need to test longevity and projection. I will say that it initially feels to me like it may not have a large sillage, but I’ll come back and edit after a few wears.

The only review I've seen of this fragrance is the one from Persolaise on YouTube. He describes the opening as being very peppery (as in black pepper), even though that's not one of the listed notes. That was my initial take as well but with further testing I believe it's a combination of the incense and bergamot giving that impression. I also feel there's a hint of cloves in there. It's odd but very pleasant. The iris and musk are the main players as it dries down but a faint spicy accord still remains. Beautiful, smooth and perfectly unisex. Does it capture the feel of a London theatre in the 1920s? I'm not sure but it's a solid attempt.

Opsis feels like walking into a hot, wooden house to see an abstract theatrical performance (I mean that as a compliment, I live for abstract theatrical performances). The opening is beautiful - a peppery incense that on first wearing felt a bit sharp, but now feels exquisite. The combination of spicy woodiness and bergamot makes me think of wooden stage floors warmed by a strong spotlight, maybe even a touch of warm electricity. The dry down is softer and with a deep sweetness, but at least on my skin it stays mysterious. I look forward to wearing this in the summer especially.

Quite close (to my nose) to Gaiac 10 by Le Labo. A meditative scent, Opsis is a quiet and calming fragrance. I prefer it to Gaiac 10 because the iris and amber round it more making it warmer and less jagged. All in all, it’s a like, not a love. But it’s still a very beautiful fragrance. Not sure why this scent profile is always so expensive and exclusive? Perhaps because of the ingredients within? Le Labo Gaiac 10 is only available in September and quite pricey and Opsis is an exclusive fragrance to Harrod’s and priced quite high as well...

Yes, I like it! Do I like it to warrant a bottle that is exclusive from Harrods? I'm not sure... Not blind worthy, but I'm glad I got a travel size and I will probably enjoy this for a while. Orpheon and Fleur de Peau are my favourites from Diptyque and this is a similar powdery floral vain but definitely has a spice about it. Im not use to wearing peppery cumin-esque spice, so I don't know if it pulls a little B.O on me. Edit: Actually it reminds me a lot of Bois Dormant from Celine!

Violet and musk, a lot of musk. The freshness of this fragrance only stays less than 30 minutes and then it brings you to the resins journey of amber and musk. It has cloying potential so don't over spray. Good performance on my skin

Dusty old spices in an old wooden case. But soft and smooth. Quite Christmassy, but maybe I’m just feeling festive. Much more spice than most of the smells like section. Projects well. Envelops you in a cozy cloud.

Really love the first hour because the iris blends beautifully with the olibanum, but once the iris disappears it's just... plain olibanum, which I'm not a huge fan of on its own.

Got my bottle from Harrods as the staff confirmed with me that it was an Harrods exclusive. Could see why people associated this fragrance with Gaiac 10 (though I don’t think it’s quite close). It looks like the whole musky powdery thing is the new trend as a lot of brands are launching new perfumes in this profile. I would describe Opsis as rather a sweet floral musky scent that opens with light dusty spices... It has the Annick Mernardo’s translucent aesthetic but not as rich or natural-smelling. Opsis opens with super soft and stunning spices, which quickly fade into some really sweet powdery floral heart and then dry down completely to a musky base that smells prominently like ISO E Super (which is very synthetically waxy woody on my skin usually). The overall experience is quite close to the inspiration of the scent, which depicts the backstage of a theatre in London’s olden days. It smells quite synthetic and sweet, reminds me of those vitamin infused candies I took when I was younger - not something I would wanna wear or keep in my collection.

finally got my hands on this, and it reminds me so much of ilio due to the iris and bergamot! the olibanum does feel a bit...sweaty? at times, but it quickly turns into a musk very similar to the fleur de peau solid perfume. this is truly a baby of those two diptyque fragrances, and very neutrally unisex, but perhaps not a true safe blind buy without sampling first.

I’m re-testing this nearly a year after my previous review, and I’ve had a complete change of heart; I went from being disgusted to enchanted. I still don’t detect any bergamot or iris, but this is such a beautiful frankincense and myrrh perfume. In the top the strength of the unlisted cumin note is intense, but it quickly mellows out and gently coats the incense in a lovely, earthy, wearable way. I detect palo santo and elemi resin here, too, and today I’m reminded of Maison Violet’s Abîme, which is a palo santo forward perfume that I get a good bit of unlisted cumin from as well. Opsis is like a cross between the older formulation of Bois d’Argent and Abîme. Opsis is mildly similar to Scents of Wood’s Sandalwood in Oak, but not very. Sandalwood in Oak is quite sugared in the opening and sandalwood focused, whereas Opsis is entirely unsweetened with no noticeable sandalwood. Calming, tranquil, meditative luxury. ———————————————— Edited 9 months later: Back to disgusted again, but this time from the amberwoods instead of the cumin. I didn’t detect the squeaky, obnoxious amberwoods from my decant, but they stood out so clearly once I got a full bottle from Harrods, so I wonder if there was a reformulation. It’s a shame that both Bois d’Argent and this beauty have been decimated by those obnoxious materials.

Testing this out and disappointed that I don’t like it at all (but at the same time, happy that I don’t need to place a Harrods order). Opsis opens with a lot of black pepper, as well as some cumin, both of which are unlisted notes. Cumin tends to go B.O.-like to my nose/on my skin. I don’t get the bergamot or iris really at all, which is so sad...just resinous olibanum (admittedly pretty, but not redeeming) and a lingering, faintly peppery cumin propped up by musk. I smell like expensive body odor. 😭 Very surprised to see that the reviews I’ve found haven’t mentioned cumin, because it is distinctly there!

Disregard the notes listed above. Disregard the description provided by Diptyque. There are no flowers; there is no hint of citrus. There is powderiness after a challenging opening. The love of your life has decided to go on a diet. The vision of him still stops you in your tracks, but he’s upset because he’s 40 lbs heavier than he was on the day when you first met (when he still went to CrossFit everyday and meal prepped religiously every Sunday night and Wednesday night). He has decided that he wants to track his macros and focus on eating more protein, in addition to building a gym in the garage. You order a food dehydrator from Amazon for $39.99, and a 3 lb. rib roast, then mix the savory liquid ingredients, including (but not limited to): dark brown sugar, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. You slice the roast into thin strips and marinate it in your liquid seasoning mix for 5 hours before placing it in the food dehydrator for an additional 8 hours. When you first open the food dehydrator and begin bagging the dessicated spoils of your labor (beef jerky), that is what Opsis smells like. The opening and first few hours is straight teriyaki and I am not here for it.

I just tried my bottle fresh from travel so will let it settle. But first impression: It’s definitely got a bit of “sweaty body” in the opening (I feel like that’s because of the bergamot with olibanum), but give it a few minutes and it settles. The last few reviews before mine indicate these newb reviewers definitely don’t know what olibanum smells like... (that “clean skin but spicy powdery smell” and not sandalwood). It also doesn’t smell like Ilio *at all.* 🤣 just because they share two of the same notes doesn’t make them similar - good god, Shalimar has bergamot and Iris too and it doesn’t smell anything like this. After the opening blast wears off, this is all about the olibanum-musk-iris trifecta so it’s pretty linear the rest of the way. And that’s perfectly fine for the allure of this fragrance. Diptyque captured quiet bohemian luxury in a bottle with this one. I don’t think it’s a safe blind buy unless you know you love olibanum, but definitely worth sampling if you’re curious. You might be surprised by falling in love with it.

The resemblance to the original Annick Menardo Dior Bois D’Argent is funny because it almost operates like that one in reverse. Instead of frankincense minerality in the opening that disappears into buttery iris and soft amber/vanilla musk, this one unfolds backwards. I like it a lot. It does have a long moment of resemblance to Gaiac 10 but it’s far smoother and rounder, polished, without the industrial off-notes. Opsis, in comparison, smells refined, of better quality, and expensive. I blind bought from Harrod’s online, opening the cellophane like a surgeon in case I had to resell. But I think this one will stick around. Can’t wait to try it on a cold night out in the west end. I think this one is to musky vanillas what Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan is to ambers. That is, the perfect version. 4 out of 5.

I have a decant and I’ve been wearing this all week because it’s so beautiful, I can’t stop. As it dries down, it starts to remind me of Bond No9 Governor’s Island quite a bit; Gov.Island is less sweet and a tiny bit smoky, with no iris....but there are surely some similarities. I have never smelled Gaiac 10 to compare. But anyway...Opsis is gloriously subdued. You get a lot of iris, some subtle spiciness, soft woods and musk. It creates just a lovely, grounding aroma. I need a full bottle and I’ll be willing to pay to ship to the US from Harrods....that’s how much I need this. It was love at first sniff that has grown deeper with every wear.

I really like this and bought a full bottle from Harrods. It is softer, and less complex than the Le Labo - I have a sample of that too. It smells less 'meaty' to me, which I prefer. There's something of this that reminds me of the spices of speculoos - whether you want to smell like that, I don't know. I find the longevity poor generally though, even when oversprayed. I was tossing up between getting this and Fleu de Peau, and I definitely prefer this. It's a bit iris-y too but just more substance.

I don’t get any of the “BO” smell that people are talking about. I think olibanum must smell that way to certain people? It’s always been a favorite note of mine in fragrances. This is soft comforting, spicy at the start. It settles into this kind of creamy, but not sweet, lightly spiced musk. I’m a female and wear this but I also think it would smell awesome on a man. It’s an awesome scent for colder weather but I like it and will wear it year round.

WOW now this is fabulous. Opsis is a powdery iris with some resinous smoky qualities, but it wears in this light airy way. It has that translucent paper like Diptyque DNA in the base via Eau Duelle, L'Papier etc. Much prefer over the current weak sauce Demachy "reformulation" of Bois D'Argent and the globby Esprit version by Kurkdijian. I hope to one day cross paths with a bottle of Opsis, but buying it from Harrods is not in the cards at this time.

Cool girl/male Gaiac10 type scent but darker with extra pepper. Kinda like a cool girl clean scent but rugged, maybe for the type that have the old type of HUNTER black croc Jimmy Choo edition boots with leopard inside (I have them) and that drive a white but slightly muddy 1989 Land Rover Defender. 😍(I don’t have one 😭) I’m letting it grow on me to compete with Gaiac in hopes I like this better since it’s easier to get. Unisex 100000%.

Opsis takes olibanum, iris, and musk to an entirely new level. The bergamot is barely there, just a subtle brightness that flickers at the edge. The opening comes in with a gentle spiciness, but it quickly softens into a beautifully refined composition that can only be described as pure elegance. Yet another masterpiece from Diptyque.

I get then camphoric dry down of Liis Bo and the opening dirty musk of F. Malle Musk Ravageur or Initio Musk Therapy. Opsis is a spicy skin musk with very familiar DNA. If you have any of the three fragrances I mentioned, you can pass on this one FOMO free.

Shares the DNA of Le Labo's Guiac but less smokey. Quite a spicy musk. It's airy and lays close to skin. Iris is not the star, all notes are very well blended.

Absolute banger!! Love this scent so much.. Am both annoyed and happy that this is a Harrods exclusive, as I don't live in London. But it is worth the trip!
