Orphéon Eau de Parfum

So, full transparency: this is my signature scent, so this review will not be objective. (Full objectivity is near-impossible with fragrances, since scent, emotion, and memory are so inextricably twined together, but I digress.) I've owned Orpheon since March 2022 and will likely need to buy another bottle before the year is over; I wear it probably four days out of every week. There are very few occasions for which I would not reach for it. Its sillage and staying power are both above average on skin, and on clothing, it's near-eternal. It announces its presence, but not too loudly; I've gotten more compliments on this scent than any other I own, but almost all of those have come from people who were standing near enough to touch me. This is one of the best fragrances Diptyque has to offer; it's underrated and a standout in their permanent collection, which is saying something. I feel confident in saying that Orpheon is a true masterpiece. For me, fragrance is an intensely personal thing that is part of my identity itself. Like a favorite shade of lipstick or that pair of jeans that always fits perfectly, it's something I can do in the course of a day to feel...well, more like me. That's because scents have a distinctly unique power to be at once grounding and transformative; a newly-discovered scent can take you on an unplanned journey, but it can also bring you home to yourself. With every new experience we have, we will interpret the world a bit differently, but there is a core part of us that stays the same. (You can't step in the same river twice, but the river itself is always made of water.) This is why a fragrance that once smelled wonderful to us can become cloying or upsetting, and why a scent that once seemed grimace-inducing may gain more depth and appeal with time, or even become an unexpected favorite. Orpheon is one of those fragrances that takes on new dimension each time I smell it, even though the feeling of nostalgia it evokes is always present. The juniper is bright and incisive in the opening, though not so aggressively sharp that it stings; it is the pleasant, bracing burn of the first sip of a strong gin & tonic. That initial juniper hit is immediately tempered by wisps of smoky jasmine, as if a stranger has just brushed past you and you get a whiff of their perfume, as well as hints of the cigarette they just had outside. Then those notes quiet down as they're joined by a soft, powdery companion - it might be the subtle, familiar waft of the blush worn by an old friend, who kisses your cheek as they arrive. Their scent triggers an automatic sense of comfort; your whole body seems to relax as you begin to tell each other about recent happenings in your lives, the conversation growing quieter and more intimate as night falls outside. That's when dim, warm lighting comes on over rich, polished cedar, a note which you realize you've been smelling from the very start; but it melds seamlessly in the background, and only steps forward when you intentionally seek it out. Orpheon is at once familiar and unexpected, encapsulating both old memories and new encounters; it is an olfactory reminder of one's core self, as well as a firmly gentle nudge towards growth and change. It is a mysterious, bewildering, grounding, reassuring contradiction of a fragrance. Like life itself, this fragrance is cohesive despite its complexity, or perhaps because of it. It's impossible to know for sure, but I believe I will be wearing Orpheon for years to come.

As I was going through my random samples this morning, I came across ORPHEON. I had no idea what it smelt like, so I decided to grab it and wear it as my scent for this morning. I don't want to give you the same talking points that you get from every other wannabe perfume reviewer, so I'm not going to go over the typical note breakdown etc. I want to talk about how this makes me feel. I think this is an excellent introductory niche fragrance for sure. Juniper is one of my all-time favorite smells, and it is done well here. It makes me feel very calm. It's crisp, aromatic and surprisingly soft. Perhaps that's partly because of the tonka bean. I prefer this much more than your typical vanilla. Especially in this composition. I have heard multiple people say that they get tobacco? It would make sense because of the inspiration behind this. It is inspired by a club back in the 1960s that I believe was next-door to the original DIPTYQUE store. However, I do not get that at all. If it is there, it must be a very clean tobacco indeed. Almost brand new cigarette? I'm not sure because I have never smoked in my life. This fragrance is much more than that. I just re-sprayed so I can smell the opening again. The opening I believe is my favorite part! Wow such a beautiful aromatic experience. Not too much of course, but a beautiful balance between the juniper, cedar, etc. I forgot to mention the jasmine note! Yes. And of course the generalized powdery notes. Rounded corners. That is the phrase that comes to mind. Some would say that juniper sometimes has a sharp quality to it. That's just the nature of the fruit. Obviously, that's not true because it has been executed differently here. There is no sharpness, no acidity, astringent behavior is gone. Anything harsh is gone. Excellent execution if I do say so myself. They have gone from a spa-like experience, to more of a comehither moment. I do want to discuss a couple of things I wish I could change. One is longevity. It simply does not last as long as I would like to. Now, I'm not asking for something impossible. I not asking for 16 hours of strong wear. But I am asking around four to six hours on skin! At a noticeable distance. I don't think that is asking too much. I am aware it might change how the fragrance smells. Change it anyway! The same goes for sillage. These things should be automatic when it comes to niche perfumery. It is one of the most significant reasons why people are drawn to more expensive fragrances to begin with. We want power and longevity. We don't want to spray over and over again. You could make the argument that DIPTYQUE is not niche, but I beg to differ. Other than that, there's not much else to complain about. Beautiful bottles from the brand. They were not always like this for those of you who don't know. I am very pleased with the upgrade. Diptyque is not my favorite brand, but I am very fond of it. I still love their candles. It's just a natural evolution for me to move on after 12 years. There are so many other fantastic niche and independent fragrance houses out there. But that doesn't mean Diptyque doesn't have a spot in your collection. I think ORPHEON is a beautiful everyday aromatic reach. Gently sweet, elegant and woody. It certainly flies under the radar within the house’s collection. I think it is worth trying out! When I die I want others to remember me when they smell Orpheon. Even in life, I hope others remember me when Orpheon hits their nose. I can say without hesitation or reservation that Orpheon is absolutely my signature scent. Orpheon may not be my current "favorite" fragrance, that's Relique D'Amour. Relique is currently the fragrance that I'm obsessing over, preserving my sample, saving for a full bottle, any fragrance lover knows this feeling. While Relique D'Amour is my current favorite, Orpheon is my signature. Orpheon is not only the fragrance I reach for on special occasions, but also when I'm alone and want to feel like myself. Orpheon is a fairly young fragrance, created in 2021 by Olivier Pescheux. Inspired by the now closed legendary jazz bar where Diptyque's founders often gathered. Due to Orpheon's recent release there's no prior memories attached to the fragrance allowing me to create new memories with each wear. In regards to Orpheon and it's inspiration, it's certainly telling the story it was intended to. Orphéon captures the elegance of Paris without feeling trapped in the past. It evokes the atmosphere of that old Parisian jazz club while remaining unmistakably modern. Rather than smelling vintage, it feels timeless, blending nostalgia with a clean, refined modernity. Perhaps some of Orpheon's beauty lies in the simplicity of its composition with listed notes of juniper berries, jasmine, powdery notes, cedar, and tonka bean. To my nose it's the juniper berries, jasmine, and the powdery notes that really define Orpheon. Orpheon opens with a brightness that slowly dims and blends with the powdery base, Orpheon settles into a beautiful and elegant fragrance that avoids feeling heavy or stuffy. I personally believe Orpheon could be worn year round with the exception of the hottest summer days. To my nose Orpheon sits perfectly unisex, there's nothing overly masculine nor feminine about it's scent. Rainy overcast days, cold weather, black T-shirts, Early Grey tea, books... These are all things that sit very close to my heart and make me feel like me. Orpheon is another one of those. Orpheon is a fragrance I plan to wear for the big events but also when I want my fragrance to give me a hug and remind me who I am. Orpheon has only two downside in my mind, its price tag and it's almost grandma-ish powdery accord. Sitting at nearly $350 for 75ml, I was lucky enough to have my bottle gifted to me by my ex girlfriend. So I would definitely recommend sampling before buying a full bottle. Lastly, the powdery notes in Orpheon may remind some of vintage "grandma" perfumes. While I definitely pick up the powdery notes I personally love the classic feeling finding them elegant not elderly. So, order a sample of Orpheon and decide for yourself. If you're a man who needs heavy woods and leathers this probably isn't for your, and if you're a lady who needs gourmands and bright fruits this also may not be for you. Orpheon truly is aristocratic in this sense. So order a sample, and let Orpheon take your mind to that Parisian jazz bar. As for me, I'll keep my bottle and keep making new memories with Orpheon and hopefully before I die a few people will have my signature scent in their memories of me.

Perfect as a "signature" perfume for the day, it gives its best in the mid-seasons (spring/autumn) or during a sophisticated evening, perhaps for a cocktail or an intimate dinner. Orphéon is a perfume of comfort and innate elegance. It smells of cleanliness, warm leather, fine wood and memories. If you love fragrances that tell a story, that don't scream but whisper charm to spare, this Diptyque absolutely deserves a place in your collection. A modern classic.

Tired of seeing people compare this to cleaning products and soap... and not because people are wrong, but because I desperately want them to smell what I smell in Orpheon. Juniper is of course a very popular scent for both soaps and cleaners, and “powder” is a fragrance descriptor of a great deal of scented toiletries. Yes, Orpheon has facets that smell like these things, but on the right skin chemistry, it pulls so much more than just juniper and powder notes. There is a *cold warmth* to this fragrance — like watching the steam of leftover rain evaporate off asphalt in the sun (tonka + juniper ???) — that is unique to its profile; something I haven’t smelled anywhere else. It’s not just clean; it’s kind of forlorn and moody. It’s a mood I get from many Diptyques, and I don’t think it’s because of their branding necessarily, because they do try to be very upscale and posh; while to me, the underlying tone of their perfumes is, as one of my favorite reviewers put on “Eau Capitale,” “trashy and hopeless.” This is why I have now thrice dubbed Orpheon the signature scent of my favorite RPG, Disco Elysium. If you’ve never played it, it’s about an amnesiac alcoholic self-hating cop who, after a bender, learns he is in a dying seaside town on the coast of a *fictional* France-like country, investigating a lynching while trying to regain memory of his past. To me, Orpheon is exactly this: beautiful, melancholy, fantastical, but also so undeniably real. A sadness you can’t shake, but one that gives a sense of peace rather than dread. It’s not something to understand, but something to feel.

I have never reviewed this because it’s so damn good. I hadn’t worn it in a while; wore it today ..was reminded of how perfect it is. For me every single phase works. The opening all the way to the final soft remnants left behind. This LASTS for me. I use 3-4 sprays usually and it lasts all day (8-12 hours). I am still not really reviewing it, because I think it really transforms so completely to whoever is wearing it. And honestly I could not do it justice. For me personally ...it is a powerhouse skin scent (here I mean it’s soft and powdery, clean and intimate) with some bright pop from the juniper berries. One of the only perfumes I immediately purchased...and after only wearing my sample for less than 5 minutes. I don’t regret it for a moment. 5 F-ing ⭐️ gorgeous in any weather or situation (maybe just go light on sprays in heat). I feel bad for the new EDT ...HUGE shoes to fill. (ETA: I have had my bottle a few years and it definitely grew over time. It felt much less potent initially...like 99% of most scents, but if you love it and are nervous about spending the money on a “light performance” scent. Orphéon EDP is certainly not that imo!)

i went back and forth between department stores to smell this more than six times before buying, i was in such disbelief at what i was smelling. this perfume smells like doing laundry at 7am in a forest: it's clean, woody, powdery and lightly floral. every fragrance accord i love blended perfectly. each time i wear it my mum comments on how good i smell, even though the accords she likes in perfume are more spicy and fruity. my friend asked me around 6 hours after application if i was wearing perfume, because she smelled me before seeing me and recognised the scent from earlier when we had sat together. the sillage is fantastic, not loud and overpowering but the perfume will be smelled without question. it's a very chic scent, i've worn this both day and night and it seems appropriate for both. i think it's suitable to wear year-round, though i personally wouldn't wear it in summer as i prefer bright scents in summertime. in one word i would describe this as enchanting.

Okay, the first time I smelled Orpheon, I was in a Nordstrom and I spritzed it on paper. I didn't really wait for it to dry down because I was interested in other fragrances as well. I think I tossed it in my purse and forgot about it. That was about a year ago. Then I decided to order a ScentSplit sample haul and I added this to my order, just to give it another shot. OH.MY.GOODNESS. This is absolutely beeeeaaaaautiful!! I love a juniper berry note (Gentle Fluidity Gold is one of my favorite perfumes of all time) and then the jasmine and powdery notes come through...I can smell a little bit of the cedar and the tonka bean is so delicious. I do enjoy powdery, clean perfumes so if you don't like those notes, you probably won't like this. I adore it! I used most of my sample and bought a full bottle the next day. It just feels so cold, cozy, woody, clean and comforting to my nose. I feel like it could be layered with another woody fragrance too. It's really beautiful!

Politely mysterious with a refined edge . Goddamn this is fragrance is JUICY. Opens with the most perfect, cold and sharp juniper berries then goes into a more woody & powdery scent. On my skin the initial spray of juniper is overwhelmingly cold, almost dark. Gives me a sort of dark purple ice image. Clean but NOT soapy, like a perfect silk cloth. The powdery cedar melts into my skin and gives the perfect ending to the most refreshing picture. Very unique scent, very classic-feeling. If Kilian Black Phantom is my winter signature this will be my summer signature. My image of this fragrance is an androgynous person in a nobleman's dueling gambeson carrying an elegant rapier, dark purple trousers with an even darker silk cape slung over one shoulder. Shoulder-length but very well-kept black hair. They keep an aloof appearance, indifferent to anything but their own thoughts whatever they may be.

Despite being released in 2021, this one blew up in 2023 after Phoebe Bridgers from the band boygenius said it was their signature fragrance, because it is genderless and fluid. Orphéon opens up fresh and fruity with juniper berries, dries down powdery and woody. The scent profile is suitable for both men and women. Performance is really good, it lasts all day, not too loud but noticible enough. I even get whiffs of it the next day Usually I skip houses like Diptyque and Byredo because they make wet-wipe scents and basic candles but this one is different! I tried over 1000 fragrances in the past 5 years and I have hundreds of reviews here, so I am very picky when it comes to fragrance, but in my opinion, Orphéon EDP is a 10/10! Small note, if you like Gris Dior, you will probably like this one too. Not because they smell similar, but I believe they have similar energy.

Very initial spray I thought smelt slightly medicinal and I was so disappointed, then I waited a few seconds to sniff my arm and try again and just went shit, I have to buy this. Orpheon is so addicting. Eyes rolling back in the head addicting. I keep smelling myself and breathing in so long I run out of air. Its so hard to me to describe as well, its cold and crisp like the outdoors yet I feel so warm inside when I smell it, clean like the most luxurious bubble bath yet somehow woody and a little sweet as well. A more intimate sillage but god what a reward to someone who gets close. If someone wore this around me I’d be invading their personal space for sure. I HATE how much I love this because I know I’m going to be thinking about it until I drop the money for a full bottle and the damn solid perfume too.

Definitely my favorite clean scent as a guy. I initially found the powdery aspect to be a bit overwhelming in the opening (first 5 min or so), but I was fully used to it after one or two wears. When sprayed on clothes, it really does remind me of fresh laundry. I think it's safe and inoffensive, on both genders. I can't imagine anyone being bothered by the smell of this. Conversely, I'd completely understand if someone were to find it boring. I love wearing this on the daily, but on a night out I would definitely reach for something more bold. Nonetheless, appropriate in any season and almost any occasion. Others seem to like it; got compliments on it immediately. After the first hour it stays close to the skin, but it stays on my skin for the entire day. Lasts days on clothes.

I just want to add that the sillage is more than moderate. There's perfumes that have the majority saying that the sillage is moderate and in reality they're very intimate.. so expect this to get noticed more than you think. Me and a friend both have Orpheon and when we go for coffee, even after 3 hours, while he is walking past me, i can smell the scent trail very clearly. My friend is on his 3rd bottle and it's his signature scent. Truly unisex, truly versatile. I would put this in the same category as Mancera Instant Crush: powedery, kind of metallic but cozy at the same time, just a bit sweet and floral. I believe this is not for everyday wear and you have to be a bit dressed up for it, as it smell luxurious and chic.

Stunnninnnngggg! At first sniff I thought it came across as pretty masculine. The juniper is highly aromatic. I love it in aromatherapy blends. The dry down is perfectly unisex - calming, grounding, soft and powdery. Nothing stands out. Just a gentle blend. It is not the sort of fragrance I would typically wear most days but I absolutely love it. I am certainly going to purchase a bottle as a gift for someone as I am sure they will like it and get more wear out of it than I probably would since I often crave louder fruity, sugary fragrances.. How lovely! This is perfect for a thoughtful, uncomplicated soul who probably enjoys nature and peaceful moments. It seems to have decent longevity and good cross-seasonal potential.

ORPHEON is exceptional, sophisticated, refined, there is a stillness to it.. like a mirror flat pool in the middle oe of a forest... it's extremely grounding yet a hint of sexiness too from some sweet almost resinous aromatic. And a hint of old formula Caleche by Hermes in the dry down...I get a gorgeous hint of leather and powder. If you love Barenia Intense and Balmain Destin, this will be right up your street - both of these share that stunning sophistication and refinement. It has a real classic perfume vibe and if you wanted understated luxury, this is for you. I often layer Orpheon under a rose body cream, it's truly gives it another gorgeous dimension - what's not to love ?

Orphéon is such a beauty. It opens up with a burst of fresh juniper berries and after a while, this pine-like scent gets softened by jasmine and the powdery accord reminiscing of vintage makeup. The opening phase of Orphéon is perfectly unisex if not a bit masculine but the later dry down leans more feminine - I mostly detect soft, powdered jasmine. It lasts for 8+ hours and projects moderately. Orphéon feels ethereal and like the color white - not in a "clean girl" way, but instead like a ghost, a whiff of something barely there yet it's still noticable. Like a blurry memory that you're clinging to, trying to remember the details... It's beautifully melancholic and dreamy...

It’s very hard to describe this perfume as it doesn’t resemble anything else I have smelt. To me, it starts off strong almost alcoholic but then it gets sweet and clean. Quite intoxicating. As the hours pass, the powdery and musky notes get more prominent. I also enjoy the Tonka bean which I found very surprising since I don’t usually like vanilla or sweet perfumes. But Orpheon is not your average perfume. It also lasts for 6-7 hours on my skin maybe more if sprayed enough. However, when sprayed in clothes the longevity is eternal. It specifically smells incredible on knitwear (I don’t know why). And I swear I’ve never gotten this many compliments for my perfume before!

After being captivated by this in store, I bought a sample in the hope that I would find this boring. I am usually not a big fan of Diptyque, because even though I find most of the fragrances very beautiful, the performance and price level usually just do not match well for me personally. Sadly for my wallet and pride, I am absolutely in love with this fragrance. This is the most beautiful, luxurious, powdery spa-like fragrance I have ever smelled. It also performs so much better than the rest of the Diptyque fragrances I have tried have on me. I cannot describe the exact atmosphere this fragrance creates for me. The closest I can get is dark, but comforting and gentle.

I got a sample completely by an accident, and i fell in love with it after the first try. 🩵 Incredible, unique, very nostalgic, and pleasant scent. This fragrance composition defines the CLEAN scent to me. Like, it's as clean as if you just stepped out of the bath and you just about to put on your most elegant clothes on for the evening. The opening is harsh, bc of the juniper i think, and slowly it becomes a really powdery-smokey green scent, in a best possible way. 😩🩵 Pure unisex perfume btw, i like Orpheon on myself soooooo much, but i can imagine this on a man too. (meanwhile i already own 2 full bottles

The most successful blind buy of my life. The opening is a very sharp almost metallic juniper berry, very similar to the juniper berries in MFK gentle fluidity silver. Very quickly though it dries down to this very powdery aromatic woody fragrance. If you don’t like powdery notes, avoid this entirely. It smells like the woods during blue hour with some fog in the air. It’s almost melancholic in the sexiest way possible. There is something so magnetic, mysterious and addicting about this fragrance, I’m not sure I can even pinpoint why, but it is magical when it touches my skin. Forever repurchasing this one.
