UMMMMMMMMMMMM UMMMMMMMMMMM THIS IS ONE of the sexiest fragrances I have ever smelled in my life. Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww. It can be unisex, but can see more women potentially rocking this; original type of women who don;t follow trends. I mean.. look at the rest of my scent profile... sweet, gourmand, sometimes headache inducing and I needed that SOMETHING... I didn't realise I was a big fan of woods until now. I always loved CEDAR - it is one of the sexiest notes for me. The least 'sweet/gourmandish' scent I own is probably the body shop white musk... which would go amazing mixed with this. Tam Dao first, then white musk. I'll tell you a little story: I went to an upmarket shop, it was early in the morning and I followed the host up the stairs... I am almost certain she had this perfume or something similar. It reminded me of Diptique's scent profile.. then later - and luckily - there was a store that held Diptique that I went by. I smelled the cap of all the perfumes and realised it could have been this. I was too shy to ask as I hadn't had a conversation with them. It's very sophisticated, upmarket and in no way immature. It's serious, sexy and cozy and INTIMATE. It goes a little sweet after the top notes settle. It's incredible. I wasted a lot of money and time trying to chase the next gourmand scent - I didn't realise I am such a fan of this SEXY scent. It's like I had a fragrance ephiphany. I won't get tired of this anytime soon, and can wear it into my older years. I'm so proud of this find. Special event, every day and signature scent. Now I understand the one fragrance does all sort of scent and in my eyes it's this one. Looooooooooooooooove! Masterpiece! It's not overdone. You will stand out. Those sweet perfumes - I find them sexy sometimes. But this one... I find sexy always. It doesn't try hard. It could be work appropriate but I haven't tried it at work yet. It's so unique I almost want to gatekeep but we are a community - I hope you love it as much as I do and I am writing this in hopes it never gets discontinued. Also I thought I didn't like sandalwood but DIptique does it amazingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggly! I didn't realise I barely explained the scent itself - it could be everyday as it has that fresh laundry element to it - so if you put it on an outdoor jacket that you wear a few times without washing it's totally fine. It will smell fresh instead of overly white flowers or fruity/gourmand. It's peppery, has sweet sandalwood, a hint of sexy white flowers, the sharp confidence of cedar which all blend into this unique scent that makes me want to kiss my lovers neck... I won't censor myself - this is what we are all about here. Perfume is not just a smell, it's a place, a time, a feeling, a memory, an anecdote, and even a signature. It leaves a sexy scent trail. Also I would never want to wear perfumes to bed after showering butttttt I think I could easily do it with this one. THAT says something!!! Laundry effect.

Really a very nice scent. I tried both the EdT and EdP before I purchased and I had a clear preference for the EdT. Both smell nearly identical in the opening (the EdT DOES have the famed cracked pepper note), but the dry down is completely differently. The EdT dries down to what is largely a woody note that I would best describe as what tropical wood carved items smell like. The EdP dries down to a more pronounced Sandalwood scent but finishes very sweet with some vanilla which I personally found to be more feminine. Longevity on the EdT is outstanding in my opinion. I own Floris and Penhaligon's and Tam Dao EdT last quite a bit longer than any Floris or Pen fragrance I own. The EdP has almost silly longevity. I had a scent strip from Nordstrom's that I had in my office that was sprayed with 3 quick sprays and it stayed on the strip for days and filled my office with its smell. So based on my experience, I would say that if you're a gentleman and want something more traditionally appropriate in a variety of settings, the EdT is definitely the way to go. If you are lady and looking to add this to your wardrobe, I would recommend the EdP for its slightly more complex middle and base notes and sweeter dry down. Overall, I believe this is a fantastic fragrance that has found a niche spot in my wardrobe that is heavily skewed towards cologne/citrus scents. It is the woody masculine fragrance I have been looking for for some time.

This is my memories of Vietnam (former Indochina) in a bottle. In the summer of 2017 I visited a department store counter with at least a dozen of Diptyque fragrances. After testing one of them, I teared up from being overwhelmed with nostalgia. It reminded me of my ancestral homeland - Vietnam. My mind was flooded with most fond memories from childhood, and very specific scenery of a big-big tree next to a French style house with humidity stained walls in Hanoi. Then my memories shifted to Asian wooden furniture, ancestral altar incense sticks, and a courtyard with mandarin trees. It was a whirlwind of memories from just one whiff. Being a broke college student, I didn't purchase it, and didn't even bother to remember the name of that nostalgic scent. I didn't even realize the perfume was named after a place in Vietnam (actually spelled Tam Đảo). A few years later, now living in a small town, I wanted to find this perfume, but there is no department stores that carry it. I only knew that it was by Diptyque and that reminded me of Vietnam. Thanks to the community on Fragrantica I figured that Tam Dao must be it! I ordered it blindly, but knowing deep inside that it must be the perfume that is named after a place in Vietnam. The house of Diptyque captured the essence of Vietnam perfectly.

I agree with those saying this is a subtle masterpiece. Not all the fragrances have to be complex and evolving. Actually sandalwood is my favorite element in fragrances, and I don’t mind at all if a straightforward sandal note is there from beginning to end. I wish Creed Green Irish Tweed stayed there in the fresh forest opening instead of evolving into a niche Cool Water. I wish Pasha Cartier EDP stayed there in the second hour with reminiscences of Ralph Lauren Safari instead of evolving into flowery notes that don’t go very well with my skin. So the fact that Tam Dao EDT is kind of unidimensional is a blessing IMHO. I don’t get cedar focus notes like many of the reviews mention. For me Tam Dao is a much subtler and approachable Tom Ford Santal Blush or Kilian Sacred Wood. I love sandalwood but not on steroids, when it becomes too creamy or waxy. Tam Dao EDT has the perfect balance, even better than the EDP version which brings other notes, longevity and evolution. Tam Dao EDT is a sandal fragrance I could wear all year and in any occasion, even coming out of the shower, not thinking about it or paying attention or trying to appreciate its dimensions. I get around 4-5 hours on my wrists until it becomes a skin scent, and 6-7 hours on my neck with just one puff. What a beauty.

Tam Dao is one of my favorite perfumes. Here, you have a complete wood scent; it isn't gourmand, citrusy, or spicy. Just pure wood. However, it isn't a basic or raw scent. I think it's a clever composition, mixing sandalwood with other woods and just the right amount of sweetness to give it a creamy nature. Tam Dao isn't trying to project masculine, bold, fresh, or sexy vibes, and that's exactly why I love it. Its simplicity and naturalness make it stand out among similar profiles. You get a calm, warm, and nurturing scent. Somehow, I like to wear it when I'm feeling thoughtful or sad. It has a kind of soothing effect on me. This is a fragrance for personal enjoyment only. I don't think anyone would receive compliments while wearing it; it's not as strong as others and has low sillage. Other comments are right when they say its longevity is too low for its price. However, in this case —and only in this case— I love the scent so much that I really don't mind.

Lots people keep hyping that this is the aroma of Buddhism temples of East Asia. Well, the truth is either I got a fake bottle from the brand's boutique or that they are spreading fake information. Tam Dao has not much to do with Mahayana temples in East Asia, where, if incense is used, the religious sandalwood is usually more gunpowdery (sulphur may be added to make joss stick) than woody or incensy. Sandalwood is connected with Buddhism in East Asia NOT via the use of joss stick, but actually via literary works (or in plain words, imagination). Tam Dao probably resembles more those temples in southeast Asia. Honestly I can't verify this hypothesis, alas, as I've never had a chance to visit temples in southeast Asian countries. Nevertheless, it's a nice woody scent that focuses on wood (cypress, sandalwood and cedar) and that is not pungent or peculiar as many other wood-centered perfumes may be. It has spicy or creamy nuances that make it even sultry.

i got a dyptique discovery set last year and slept on tam dao for a while. i used up the 7.5 ml bottle recently and purchased a 50 ml bottle of the EDT. does anyone know if tam dao contains javanol or a version of a sandalwood aroma chemical? i ask because my hot take on this is that it's not that the performance of the EDT is weak, but that it has a good done of javanol that causes the wearer to go anosmic to it... any thoughts? to me this is signature scent worthy if you like fresh/clean woody scents, which i very much do!! i also have a bottle of the EDP on the way I found for half price from an online retailer. I noticed that ebay has a lot of fakes - i say this because i've messaged a few sellers asking if the EDP is guaranteed 100% authentic and none of them respond, leading me to believe that they are replicas. I would suggest purchasing this from a trusted retailer or the brand directly.

Calming, meditative, and soft sandalwood that opens up beautifully on your skin. I didn’t give this classic a chance sooner because I was put off by the thought of cypress and rose. To my nose, cypress can be a bit too "wet woody" (as in Encre Noire), and I tend to prefer drier woods. The thought of rose paired with sandalwood also conjured up the image of a stereotypical yoga studio. BUT... it’s pure sandalwood magic! So gentle, well-rounded, and airy enough to wear in any season and at any time of day. While I love sandalwood as a note, some perfumes can feel heavy, as if they're weighing you down with a massive sandalwood log. Not this one. Your skin still shines through with its natural scent, making this a perfect contender for a signature fragrance.

This perfume is super nostalgic. I suspect most people have smelled something like this before, somewhere in their lives. To me, this is definitely a hot, aromatic sauna. It is burning spicy woodchips in humid air, droplets trickling down the walls. To my husband, it is a memory from his childhood, visiting his family accountant, fascinated by a wooden tiger in her house, that looked a little too realistic. The first thing that struck me was how airy the scent felt. I had previously smelled the Eau de Parfum, but the Eau de Toilette seems to have more space in it. More air between the woods. Sadly it doesn’t last much longer than 2 hours. As it develops, the fragrance becomes warm, aromatic, and comforting. Beautiful scent, I wish it lasted longer!

I read a lot of reviews saying this is a sandalwood heavy fragrance but I get a ton of the cedarwood in this. Which is fine by me because I love cedarwood just as much if not more. This is gorgeous honestly. It smells to me like a wet forest after it has rained. It's obviously really woody, and earthy. I almost get a wet dirt scent from it but in a good way. The spices, cypress and musk are also very present for me. It's such a transportive, meditative and spa like scent. I find it to be perfectly unisex and could work year round. It layers well with many other fragrances I own but also shines solo. My only issue with it is that it has pretty weak longevity for me. Out of all my Diptyque fragrances I own this one has the weakest longevity.

This was my blind buy. I was so worried reading comments, I thought it's going too be too woody, too masculine. I received it yesterday and wore it straight away. I was so pleasantly surprised-it's very relaxing, gentle scent. Yes, its woody, but to me it's more like a garden of flowers woody. That made me absolutely happy, because I didn't really want to smell like a forest. Sprayed on the skin around 5pm, could still smell it in the morning at 7am. Then scent faded away slowly. Tam Dao is not a powerful fragrance, but it's lingering there and I got whiffs of it throughout the evening. (Also wearing it today for the day). Perfectly unisex fragrance, I'm lucky I like it. (Test it before you purchase of possible). 5/5 🥰🥰🥰

Tam Dao is sort of representative of the curve of meditation. We start in a sympathetic state, just seated and heightened: sharp, dry, freshly cut cedar, stimulating and bracing, but following this opening, it settles, evolves into a grounding single-pointed hum of voluptuous sandalwood, warm, still, and calm. This is not showy or flashy, it is intimate and understated, but you will likely get noticed, if that matters to you. What should matter is that it feels good to you, pleases you, and makes you content. That should always be the ultimate objective in whatever you wear. Your happiness matters. PRO TIP: Layer this on Nemat Sandalwood oil or Australian Sandalwood essential oil to anchor it and increase its longevity.

Few days ago I smelled just a hint of something incredible on my pajamas. Different from what I was wearing that night. Incapable to concentrate on the book I was reading, sleep was out of question, I went hunting for it. I knew it, but could not place it. Well, it could have been just about anything, as deeply disturbing as it is, it happened before and results are not always funny. I developed humbling consideration for dogs and their quirks. When you find yourself elbows deep in samples accumulated over the years in the middle of the night, you have to admit to yourself that you have become the slave of your own nose. Of course, I've found it! I even caught few hours of sleep in this little woody slice of Heaven.

A gentle and soft sandalwood. Primarily masculine imo, but could work on the right woman as well. The opening has a slight green touch for a few seconds and then settles into what you'll get basically for the rest of this fragrance's life. The performance is tame to say the least, but I actually prefer the edt as it projects less and the scent is better from up close anyway. I do get a slight similarity to Wonderwood, but tam dao is gentler, sweeter and more dusty. Wonderwood is more rugged, stronger and more bitter and gives me migraines, which tam dao thankfully doesn't

This is a fantastic perfume if you love woody and especially sandalwood perfumes. This on my skin lasts for a couple of hours, and the sillage is rather intimate. Thus, for the price I think this very expensive. Yes, the sandalwood and cedar notes are predominant but I do smell other notes in the opening which slowly fade away. I would recommend trying out the edp version of this one assuming that it lasts long. To sum it up, I would say - A fantastic perfume but unfortunately suffers from longevity and sillage issues.

First review in the 3 years of fragrance collecting This fragrance was on my list for a long time, but I did not buy it since the reviews were “weak” and “no projection”, but I saw a sale and decided to buy it. Boy did I make a good decision, amazing cypress pine sandalwood ... sharp but perfectly made. It is on a weaker side, but since I work in an office it is perfect and also great for summer since it is not so creamy and heavy TLDR: Amazing fragrance, smells like a forest with sandalwood

still my favorite dry aromatic sandalwood. i bought a 100ml bottle in 2020 and nursed it until mid 2024. it’s now a year later and i think about it from time to time and miss the coziness and aromatic touches that it had. i’ve smelled many other sandalwood dominate fragrances since that time but in the end, i find them not worth their price, too creamy, or it goes pickle-like on my skin. this is the one i always come back to - it might be time to get another bottle for the fall season.

I'm usually into floral scents but something about this had me at first sniff. Its a warm, creamy, woody scent. I get sandalwood, cedar blended with a slight muskiness. I find it comforting and addicting. Its not a strong projector but I get whiffs of it now and then throughout the day. I like it more each time I wear it. I tested both the edt and edp. I like both but think I will buy the edp once my sample is finished. Today I layered it with Guidance 46 and it was so good together.

It is a good choice for a young aged man to wear during the time of autumn and winter. The longevity is not THAT long, 4/5 hrs each time (like I sprayed before leaving home, and by the time of lunch I can barely sense it). The structure is pretty thick. The beginning is the smell of wood with a glimpse of spice, a little bit like the [Bvlgari Pour Homme]; the middle note is a floral smell with a little sandalwood; at last it has a slight sweetness like vanilla chocolate.

tam dao is absolutely delicious – slightly nutty, rich, clean sandalwood that stays bright even in warm and humid tropical weather. it's very easy for me to wear on days where anything else would give me a headache. the edt has a spicy green freshness to its opening that's less present in the edp. the edp is much better on my skin for longevity and sillage, but i got a 100ml bottle of the edt for absurdly cheap and i'm certainly not unhappy with it.

I stumbled upon this masterpiece when I was at my sisters house, I saw a 10ml decant and tried it, I immediately remembered the smell of my friend house when I was 6, opens with a nice nostalgic smell that is relaxing of cedarwood, it almost smells like cumin but in a good way, it fits a guy in the library vibe, the performance is honestly not that good, I get around 2.5-4 hours on skin and it quickly fades from clothes. 9/10 I would buy it again

Unique and fantastic fragrance. This is one of the main fragrances — if not the main one — that opened me up to a branch of perfumery as a form of aromatherapy. It’s a very woody scent, but not a dense, dark woodiness. It’s a clean, almost milky woodiness — sweet, yet not truly sweet. A very comforting and contemplative scent. I strongly suggest trying it if you want to experience perfume in a more contemplative way, as a form of relaxation.

BEAUTIFUL. The first time I smelled this was during a Qatar flight where they gave them out as samples. It really reminds me of comforting foggy mornings in South Asia. Every time I smell it, I'm transported to my family's home in northern India during a winter morning, where you can smell the environment mixing in with the fog and humidity as someone boils a fresh pot of milk on the gas stove outside in preparation to make morning chai.

I’ve had this perfume for weeks before I finally worked out what it smells like to me. It’s like taking a deep breath of the inside of an old wooden box, which was once used to store incense and rose potpourri. The hint of sweet floral moves this away from what would otherwise be a very straightforward oriental woody scent. It’s a very comforting, peaceful fragrance that has a little more to it than what meets the eye (nose).

This scent is a smooth, powdery, aromatic sandalwood, and for an EDT I'm impressed by its longevity and projection. I let my friend wear it to dinner and I could smell it on him all night. To me this is a true unisex fragrance that is so comforting, but I can see where people say it leans more masculine. I'm glad to have this in my collection and unless I find something to replace it with, I would definitely repurchase this.

Such a velvety, dry wood with a lovely bit of sweetness, a true unisex. It is dry wood but it is not a cold scent, it is so mellow and serene. I wear it mostly to my yoga practice and for gym and I feel amazing, I feel clean and cool and chic. Best sandalwood ever! Mine macerated and its pretty potent. Tam Dao is basically about sandalwood. The opening is raw and rough, almost splintery–probably the cypress. There’s almost a rosy tinge to it, too. I don’t know how rosewood smells, but I can imagine it smelling like this. The fragrance quickly settles down to a beautiful creamy sandalwood, smooth and soothing. There isn’t much more I can say about it, but nothing more needs to be said.

This reminds me of a temple or a shrine! I grew up in Japan and would often visit the shrines there with family and once even worked as a shrine maiden and this smell brings me right back to that memory. It’s very woody and smells like an incense is being burnt while it’s a bit chilly outside. Smells like post rain temple visit in autumn or a rainy spring day. Makes me very nostalgic!

Love this scent. So easy to wear and layers nicely with soft floral scents. On its own, it is a dry woody scent that adapts to the temperature. I find it really very linear in colder weather, but the floral notes shine through during spring and summer. This is my go-to for a laid back but sophisticated scent. I will definitely be repurchasing when my bottle is empty.

WOW! As others have said, a very grounding scent, in a very relaxing way. The cypress note takes me to a Korean spa. I think blending the cypress with cedar was the right choice; they both bring out the best in each other. The drydown still has woody notes and actually smells a little odd on my skin? But the cypress and cedar makes it so worth it. Love.

One of my favorite perfumes, I love the EDT because somehow there is a pleasant tea note in it, and it is so well processed. The wood is beautiful, as is the amber, it gives a hint of a beautiful qualiity beeswax with a hint of vanilla into that beeswax. All the notes are so cleanly placed and yet the atmosphere remains relaxing and cozy warm.

I'm getting stir-fried chicken with peanuts at first spray followed by an orange chicken and veggies dry down. Odd, and an unexpected gourmand for me! The spiciness in this gets me hungry every time. The sandalwood is what I'm here for and it emerges in spirit around the one hour mark. Very well blended but longevity could be a bit better.

Feeling chosen by this fragrance. It lasts 6 h + on my skin and gives a buttery and cosy, yet fresh vibe. The sandalwood manages to be soft without being too creamy. I don’t get any rose in this. None of this probably makes sense but I feel comforted and powerful when I wear this and there’s no way around a full bottle I fear.

This is so soft, delicate and cozy, like wearing a cashmere sweater. Or better yet, like a warm embrace in a wooden cabin surrounded by fresh rain soaked cypresses. Absolutely love how soothing and relaxing this scent is! The woodsy notes here are so soft and well blended, I can't stop sniffing my arm. Lovely one!

A simplistic fragrance that really grew on me the more I wore it. A creamy, dusty sandalwood with faint touches of aromatics at play. The kind of thing to wear when you want a ‘break’ from fragrances but still want a pleasant aura. Generally really nice. Would work all seasons except summer.

I came back to this after having a review months ago because I just smelled a room diffuser named "Wood" from Daiso Japan. I knew I smelled it before, it felt so familiar. I was thinking old furniture... forest...that unmistakable Asian temple vibe. Fuck yeah that's Tam Dao!!

Super cosy and woody. It's a perfect cold weather scent. Basically lot of cedar wood and sandal wood with a creamy background. To be honest, I was able to easily replicate the effect by using cedar wood, sandal wood and musk oil blend. It creates a lovely skin scent.

I tried this for the first time in the summer and didn’t really enjoy it. Gave it another go in the fall (40 degrees) and I think it’s so light and beautiful. Spicy, but not too spicy. Dry but not to dry. Floral but not too sweet. This might have just made my top 10?

Dusty, Dry, Linear, Clear, Woody with soft florals. It’s a very calming scent profile and creates an aura of sophistication as a skin scent. Good scent bubble for 1-2 hrs. Very versatile and an easy grab. Masculine leaning from my perspective. Shukran Habibi!

Dry, clean & woody. This is a great Sandalwood fragrance, it shares a lot of similarities to CDG Wonderoud, however I find it a little more refined. Definitely able to be worn in all seasons, however best suited to spring and autumn. Very unisex.

To me, this is very zen, I spray Tam Dao before bed a lot. It's a clean, comforting woodiness and herbs accord with a bit dusty but not annoying. Performance is not the best, it lasts for a couple of hours and sits very close to your skin.

Tam Dao is a creamy sandalwood musk that is cozy and comforting all year long. The woods are soft making this fragrance an easy choice for year round wear. This is for the person who wants to exude quiet confidence. It's quite charming.

Like Radio Bombay but turns sweet and kind of fresh on my skin (which I like) and disappears like a whiff in the wind (which I definitely don’t like). Therefore not worthy of the price, no matter how nice I smell for half an hour.

A very beautiful musky sandalwood. Wouldnt say its sophisticated or a perfume that fills up a room though. Its just a perfume that represents simplicity and minimalist aesthetic with a touch of tea. Absolutely beautiful id say.

This has been a staple scent science the early 2000s. That scent of pencil shavings and graphite is seductive. On the dry down that powdery, creamy woodsiness that just sits on the skin. Sweet, seductive and super comforting.

Tam Dao: uber natural smelling scent. Kinda reminds me of pine sol just a little with how woody it is. Super dense woody resins but doesn’t project or have massive sillage so still relatively safe with a couple sprays. 9/10

Calming, subtle, intimate. Reinforcing my love for soft woodsy notes. While I’m a female and would wear this myself, I would go crazy for this on my husband. Maybe this will be a self-serving birthday present to him...

the best dry woods scent I've ever smelled, but the longevity is really genuinely terrible, like I can't smell it after 20 minutes. kinda makes me feel like offing myself but I guess that's not diptyque's fault

exactly what i imagine a spa resort for billionaires would smell like. one of my favourite fragrances to smell on a man. the scent is wonderful, but for the 3-4hr longevity the price is ridiculous.
