Venise

it's the legendary demeter tomato, grown up. she's lived a life now, she's more nuanced. and with that comes being effortlessly unaffected and cool. the basil and tomato and green pepper (a note i'd LOVE to see in more fragrances, bliss) are blended so well that the end result is fresh, crisp garden air. not, you know, pizza. there's a slight zesty sweetness which i believe comes from a mandarin note not listed here, and i find the vetiver comes through in the dry down. lasts just a few hours on me which i find perfectly fine, as it came in this travel spray only -- it's a pleasure to reapply as needed. that said, if diptyque brought this back in a full bottle (i have just one of the 3 travel sprays, gifted to me from a darling and generous friend) i would still grab it in a heartbeat. my ideal spring/summer fragrance !

Venise recalls a tune I enjoyed as a child called The Garden Song, by John Denver: 'Inch by inch, row by row Gonna make this garden grow All it takes is a rake and a hoe And a piece of fertile ground' It is a verdant, vegetal vigor of succulent, sweet green peppers mingled with tart tomato vines, basil leaves, and plump clementines. I also get the sensation of arugula and plant sap. It's misty, zesty, all sunlight and morning dew. Its sharp snap is slightly softened by musky vetiver and woods. Wearing it gives me the urge to wear overalls and to play the dulcimer.

this is nice! fully unisex, it's fresh and green with a dewy and vegetal snap. it's easy to wear and easy to live with in warmer weather, during the day, at work, whatever. I also appreciate that even though it only comes in a travel size, it's a travel spray instead of a roller ball so you get a better diffusion when you apply. because I always gravitate toward fresh green scents I have others in my collection with a similar vibe, so I gave two of the three sprays that came in the set to friends :)

So glad I gave in to my blind-buy impulse. Not long lasting on skin but really lovely. Green but with less bitterness (to me) than Eau de Lierre. Diptyque used to offer a basil candle that was one of my favorites and this smells like a sweetened-up and more dimensional version of the candle. There is something slightly floral that verges on synthetic, rose and LOTV maybe? And the bell pepper/tomato leaf are both detectable but not too biting. Probably not for everyone but I adore it!

Green leaves, green pepper, tomato leaves. Reminded me of JSP Gong. Beautiful. It's rare that I said that after just a sniff in store, but here, it's a fact. Full spray worthy (limited edition, does not come in bottles).

funky skanky tomato leaf dirt smell. the vegetal notes are *crisp* & wet (a fine mist, not a shower). smells divine on my skin & fades to a gorgeous vetiver-y musk after a couple hours

BASIL! You need to love it to enjoy Venise. It had some Reminiscence of L’ombre dans leau, probably because of the tomato leaf. But it is such a fun scent. It would be nice in summer! Looking forward to wearing it during warmer days! EDIT: on me it is so close to Heeley Verveine (Eugene it was also called), it’s the green verbena/rhubarb in Helley that makes Venise being close to it. Absolutely no ”sallad” feeling whats so ever. Give it a try since limited edition!

I am a big fan of green, garden-insipred fragrances - so naturally I had to have this. It's a very beautiful blend of tomato vines, basil and a certain soil-y accord. Not soil, but something that reminds me of it - might be the vetiver. It's truly sad that the longevity is so weak, but if you like this type of scents, it's a gorgeous perk-me-up fragrance to keep in your purse.

Absolutely gorgeous! Thank god I found this just in time. Get yours before it is no longer available. I hope Diptyque will re-launch this and keep it in their permanent selection. Green, fresh but cosy heaven. Different from anything else. Real, wonderful.. so good. I can’t get over it. I found a new favorite but it is already discontinued.

I rather like the saladiness of Venise. It's very lively and is fresh in a way that doesn't rely on citrus - something I personally dislike, as I get overwhelmed with citrus very easily. I agree with comments below that there's a strong rose element that isn't listed at all. Venise is an odd one, but I really like it.

I love this. Most green perfumes either veer to the mossy side, smell like cannabis, are citrusy, are heavy on vetiver, or go to the current trend of being overly sweetened and gourmand. Venise is perfectly balanced. It smells like a whole tomato plant with the fruit and tomato leaves, I smell a bit of green pepper, it is brightened with basil, and a light vetiver base that does not overwhelm the other notes or interfere at all, and it has just the lightest bit of sweetness to take off the bitter edges. It is very wearable, as it is pleasant and tempered and soft. Though it starts of very vegetal and green, it smells like perfume, not an Italian meal, though it evokes the memory of a good meal. Also, it sweetens a bit more over time and gets less bitter. It is edgy and different but in a very polite way. A really great limited-release niche offering from Diptyque in the Le Grand Tour collection celebrating the 60th anniversary of the house. Lovely layered with Kyoto.

I just can't seem to get to love the vegetal fragrances from Diptyque. Just like Kyoto, this smells bizarre to me and on me. It's mostly green tomato with a zest of something sharper. I like green scents (Eau de Lierre is beautiful!) but as much as I'd like this in a greenhouse, I somehow hate it on my skin. Another one to let go (how do I even have it?).

Venise is as if the velvety moss-muscled Masters of the Universe Moss Man toy found himself in a biergarten nestled in the midst of a forest of crooked pines &twining nightshade. Seating himself under the canopy of verdant flora, the green plastic henchman orders a moderately priced sampler of lambics and goses and other sour, seasonal ales (but he’s going to expense it to Skeletor anyway) and as he’s enjoying his tiny, half-filled glass of coniferous resin and lactobacilus-y fermented grains, he notices the plants stealthily creeping closer, surreptitious snaking sneaking vines with intent to strangle. For though Moss Man can camouflage himself in foliage and control all the plants on Eternia, on Earth he’s apparently powerless and our terrestrial vegetation views him as a threat. As the air becomes suffocating with the scent of sap-filled botanical defense mechanisms, Moss Man slips into unconsciousness wishing he’d actually ordered the full-sized stein.

undoubtedly unique, this fragrance smells like returning from a romp in the garden – but instead of the more common fantasy of a flower garden – this garden grows big, beautiful, ripe tomatoes, with abundant basil on the side. even though it is an edt with a fairly weak staying power, for it's duration it is hardly suitable for any sort of a formal or professional occasion, unless you want to smell like you just got back from a steamy tryst at an italian restaurant. i will say to its credit, i don't think that's how the house imagined the fragrance. i can see it being a fresh choice for probably exactly what they had envisioned: traveling around europe, rugged, carefree, and wild. in the meantime though, unless you prefer overwhelmingly earthy and savory scents, i wouldn't exactly recommend this for office use.

I was excited about this list of notes. Basil? Bell pepper? Tomato leaf? And vetiver?? Sounds like green fragrance heaven! So I went to the Diptyque store today to try it and oh.....what a bummer! Venice opens quite nicely with an accord based on green and aquatic notes, that wafts beautifully off the skin. So far so good! But it then very quickly turns screechy with some unfortunate citrussy aroma chemical and a mineral vetiver (à la Terre d’Hermes), to then disappear altogether. Within 30 minutes that is...... So for its rather short lived life, Venice smells a bit too harsh to my taste, and this is not something I would like to wear. For a well made green fragrance with basil, tomato leaf and vetiver, try Sisley Eau de Campagne. Much better balance, much more natural smelling, and also much cheaper......

Floral Salad Dressing?? EXTREMELY vegetal, piquant, and aromatic in the opening and the "Green Bell Pepper" accord has a bitter, indolic, greeness to it. What's odd is it later transitions to a somewhat rosy, floral, and green fragrance. So either my nose is not percieving this right or Diptyque isn't divulging the full list of notes. Just as in the case of their other new offering, Kyoto, the jury is still out on whether or not this is for me. And again, another HIGH quality offering from Diptyque.

I'm not sure there's much lasting power in this one, but it's a very green, invigorating fragrance and I really like it! This would make a wondrous room spray, bar of soap, or one of their Eau Plurielle creations if they decided to do more with this scent down the road. The green tomato vine scent took me back to Les Belles de Ricci from the '90s, though that was more floral in its base.
