Baise Moi On The Dancefloor

I fear I'm going to have to write reviews of all the Discotheque scents after buying the discovery set, which happened because the copy was so transportive and the inspiration so unique. They're all genius. Baise Moi is the one I keep coming back to, though. I ordinarily loathe a powder note but this is different. The best way I can describe the opener is the scent of a gel manicure—chemical, otherwordly, strangely alluring and comforting, with massage oil and flowers in the background. It's strong and noticeable but not overpowering, I find myself continually lifting my wrist to my nose. The dry down nixes the chemical note and is honestly the way I'd always like to smell—a warm, sweet, and slightly inconclusive skin scent. If this scent were a color, it would be a transparent blue-purple, like a mist wafting off a white-tiled thermal bath. Or a steamy window. Perfect for a Le Bain Douches inspiration. Womanly in a retrofuturist kind of way. Stunning!!!!

90s supermodel in a bottle. Think Calvin Klein Spring '94. Shalom Harlow's strut. Linda Evangelista as a blonde. A pale lavender silk shift dress. Its cool toned. Its sleek, its simple, theres so way it could be this sexy or powerful but sure enough it is. A beautiful blend of soft & hard. The metallic of the violet leaf is like the sting of a slap across the face and the cashmere wood comes in strong with a a soft touch to ease the sting. Special shoutout to the jasmine here really doing just what was needed. It perfectly rounds out and compliments the cassis also. I feel so chic wearing this. Its powerful and sturdy with just enough levity. Makes me feel like that b*tch and reminds me to keep my head up.

Looking at the notes, I would've expected this to be mainly powder, yet the violet leaf and cassis prevent it from being entirely so. I also get a soapy feeling, despite there being nothing aldehydic about the fragrance. It's as if you just dried off after taking the best shower of your life with a powdery soap: the moisture and steam still linger on your skin. Baise-Moi smells like a mist, the wearer weaving through the night, leaving their trace behind... Truly an exceptionally blended composition. EDIT: After sampling on skin, it's definitely WAY more powdery lol, can't believe there's no powder accord on the profile. Very much giving a girl who wears frills and lace, getting ready for the night.

An initial woody spice settles down to a powdery iris/orris warmth on my skin, with a hint of Violet stopping it from becoming bitter. It smells classic, like sitting in my parents' bedroom as a child with my Mum while she's getting ready to go out for the evening - makeup, hairspray, deodorant, perfume (she still wears and loves Fidji by Guy Laroche), with a slightly spicier edge of my Dad’s aftershave in the background (which will be whatever my Mum got him for Christmas - probably something from Paco Rabanne back in the 80s). If you don't have that kind of sense memory, this might strike you as old-fashioned, but I can't help but love it.

It is powdery, it is sweet and it is addictive. Like sitting next to my auntie in the 1990s at her vanity watching her get ready for a night out dancing. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this nostalgic wave but I’m here for it.

Vintage lace girl vibes. A shy girl who is raunchy in the sack. I hate being that girl that’s like ooooh my boyfriend loooves it but my lover (not my boyfriend) is absolutely wild for it.

so insanely attracted to this scent, it’s like a queer 90s supermodel. Steamy showers and a night on the town. A bit old fashioned but so gooooood. Woody violets/iris.

I thought I wouldn’t like this one based on the notes alone but I was pleasantly surprised. At the same time I think that it is hard to actually describe this scent and what this smells to me. It is kinda woody, but at the same time very sweet and fruity, and you can’t get away with how powdery this is. But it is all of these things in a light and calm way. Like a summer day with no worries, where you are wearing a brightly coloured dress and lipstick just to enjoy the day. In the initial drydown the powder is getting very make-up powdery, but never like one of those characteristic iris note perfumes. It is dry but at the same time it keeps it fruityness? I still struggle with how I percieve the notes, so this one is absolutely one you have to try out for yourself. The final drydown four hours later is a clean powdery floral, almost musky. I am sad that the longevity on my skin is just about five hours, because I am debating whether this one or Lola is my favourite from this brand.

I really like this fresh, cool (in both senses of the word) and sophisticated fragrance. I bought the Discothèque discovery kit after hearing about Baise Moi from Olivia Olfactory's excellent YouTube review, where she describes its vibe as like someone at a late night party who's just had a breakup, crying as they sit on the side of the pool with their legs dangling into the water. There is a shimmery, aquatic quality to the top notes that *does* remind me of underwater lights bouncing off the pool tiles at night. The floral notes are fresh and gentle without sweetness. I don't notice much powderiness from the orris, so it's not strongly vintage-smelling. To my nose, something in the dry down (maybe it's the combination of orris and sandalwood) smells kind of like pencil shavings – it's definitely not unpleasant or overwhelming, but is noticeable to me. I think this fragrance is completely office appropriate while also smelling interesting enough to not feel generic or dated.

I received the discovery kit (the lady I talked to during customer service was very nice so shoutout to Liz) and this and Lola at the coat check stood out the most to me. This one is most pleasing to my nose when I wear it doing outdoor activities (which feels appropriate for all the fresh cassis and violet leaf in here). It runs the risk of being too aftershave-y in the beginning but the sweet orris helps mellow it out and stay just above fresh and powdery. I didn't think I was going to think much of this one but I really liked this actually!! I don't get very raunchy or suggestive vibes from this (which could just be me) but it does serve as a nice alternative to your normal clean white floral musks.

reminds me of walking thru the perfume/makeup section at a department store, kind of just that general powder/make-upy smell but i actually do really like that in the right setting. It's powdery and girly which i don't dislike! probably not a daily or signature scent for me personally though. but i could see it for certain outfits if i wanted to give a more feminine vibe. im also liking it as a bedtime scent like on my pjs/pillow etc, i find the powder scent quite comforting and pleasant to smell even if i dont necessarily want to go around smelling like that all the time. you get me?

Does anyone else get popcorn from this? There's a warm, almost salty note that comes out, at least on me. It reminds me of popcorn (freshly popped without any butter or salt) or the warm, toasty smell in your hair that comes from a fresh blowout. At other times I smell a glass of white wine, a fresh pack of parliament lights, some 90's ozonic perfume, Body Shop dewberry lip balm? Or at least it triggers those associations... Very interesting!

This scent is so familiar to me... like my mom's Avon kit in the 90s. Something beautiful and nostalgic.

powder city with violet. jasmine present too. did i say it's powdery? the sharp green scent when you first spray it, thanks to the violet and cassis, almost turns fruity. it quickly fades away. it's kinda bad but ehh, probably one of the less interesting scents from this line.

It's powdery, uncomplexly floral, and at worst reminds me of baby wipe.

this is a powdery merit retrospect bomb when first sprayed but omg the scent it shifts into is incredible. this goes very warm and vanilla forward on me and smells like something nostalgic. i originally bought a sample because of it being compared to nirvana black (still haven’t found a dupe after 10 years). the complete dry down is very similar but not quite what im looking for in relation to a dupe but i did buy a full size.

Worn baby pink lace and powder. A hot girl who sprayed something pink and sweet on top of brand new second hand clothes. The fantasy of what her skin would smell like right where her neck meets her jaw. Goes extremely well with the smell of cigarettes.

Woody musky Orris with a bit of sweetness, powdery & cold yet at also warm & spicy. This was not a love for me but still beautifully blended. IG/Tiktok: @wilddew_vibes
