Next To Me Or Nothing

Discothèque’s branding is seriously on point. You can tell there’s real care in the presentation: the visual language, the references, the copy, the whole mood. This one in particular got me to blind buy, and I almost never do that. Images of woven blue silk on skin, references to Kyoto, intimate fragments of prose... I mean, shit. With a name like Next To Me Or Nothing, who was I to resist? Luckily, it delivers on what it sets out to do. I get all the listed notes: cold milk, jasmine flourishes, cloudy sake, soft musk, tender tonka, and even whispers of rice. It’s sheer, delicate, and sensual, but in a much sexier way than I expected. Less obvious seduction, more intimacy in the pale blue of morning. The lactonic quality is cool and smooth rather than creamy-rich, while the sake and rice-like facets give it this pale, slightly sharp translucence. It stays close, powdered, musky, and faintly sweet. I can see how the powdery-tonka facets might read a little “mothball-y” to some noses, especially if you’re sensitive to an almond register. Texturally, it reminds me of Cuvée Skin by BTSO, but this feels cooler, more diaphanous, and more emotionally intimate. Also don’t expect a powerhouse scent for a night out, this is firmly a skin-scent. Next To Me Or Nothing is exactly the kind of fragrance that proves branding can be more than packaging. When the concept, name, visuals, and scent all speak the same language, the whole thing becomes dangerously persuasive.

Got the sample of this with my order and first impression is incredible. I’m enamored... but I’ll prob come back to edit this and expound once I’ve had more than a few days with it. Initial thoughts is that it’s a very discotheque-esque skin scent. As in they have had a few successful takes on putting a new spin on an overdone category (Heathens, Lola) and I feel like they set out to make an original skin musk as a foundational frag in the collection. I feel like they nailed it. But I’m going to report back after more wear time. EDIT: coming back to say after using the full sample I have since purchased a fb. I still can't totally describe why I love it so, it has me a bit at a loss for descriptive words lol she's MYSTERIOUS. Also after reading so many varying reports of its longevity, I'm thankful it lasts me min of 4-6 hours every application. On clothes I can smell it for 1-2 days. My skin definitely does not eat it up like some (or at least does veryyy slowly). BUT I am infamously a sucker for a skin scent so take it with a grain of salt!

This ones surprisingly grown on me. Originally got it as a freebie with Heathens, Cowboys & The Santa Ana Winds, but when you get three compliments in one day the universe is telling you something. At this point I'm probably reiterating what everyone else has said. Its an intimate skin scent, composition is clean, musky and boozy with a surprising moderate duration. It really does carry a smooth whispery feel to it, so I get the jazz club inspiration they were going for. Just dont expect it to radiate far, people really have to be next to you or they smell nothing. Overall though I'm interested in seeing what this house does next. Personally I wouldn't mind something more 1980s Miami or Colombia. Real Griselda Blanco & Vice vibes.

i was like a dog hearing its favorite words when i first saw the notes listed. the imagery roped me in. this was an instant blind buy and i’m pleased to say it was a successful one. this comprises all of my favorite notes, infused into one beautiful pale blue bottle. i’m a sucker for a skin scent and this is no exception. i wish i got a little more of the cold milk or even the jasmine but i can always layer other fragrances as desired. this holds up well on its own and against some of my most beloved milky, floral rice musks, all while offering something a little new and nuanced. happy that i got my hands on this

Lovely fragrance. The star jasmine and milk notes make for a nice skin scent. But be warned that this is indeed a skin scent, as the name suggests, if someone’s not right next to you, they’ll smell nothing. The comparisons to Le Labo’s thé matcha are warranted, and it has an abstract quality to it that reminds me another 13 as well, but this fragrance doesn’t have the projection of another 13. It achieves the ethereal, spring vibes they were going for in their description of the scent, so overall it delivered on its promises.

Ran to buy the blue bottle and received it before the weekend and have spent the last two days trying to dissect why I love it, yet can't even articulate what I feel like it smells like as a whole. I can pick out the individual notes/accords listed and do smell most of them individually (but especially the sake and iso e super), but can't understand why together they feel so comforting. I can't easily describe it but I think will end up being a regular in rotation.

I absolutely love this scent. BUT, you can't deny that it is intimate! I find it soft, sensual and really personal. I always get comments but only when someone gives me a hug or gets close! I wear it everyday and it makes the best layering scent. Not one if you want to be smelt as you immediately walk into the room. Love how it is warm and fresh at the same time and genuinely is going to be the scent of my summer this year!!!

This perfume to me, is what would happen if Le Labo's The Matcha and Another 13 merged into one. It is fresh and cosy, enveloping you in a musky sandalwood with a slightly creamy undertone to it. I would say this is a safe blind buy if you are someone who enjoys cleaner scents that aren't too overpowering. It is definitely a skin scent.

I sprayed this a was immediately reminded of another 13 which I love. There’s that one note- maybe iso e that absolutely stands out. I bought the disco set because I need to smell everything they make now!

this perfume is like if missing person, father figure, and l’eau papier had a baby. very masculine and father figure on the opening and very powdery on the dry down. i don’t particularly like missing person but this one doesn’t bother me. i find its not as cloying on the powder and the vanilla/sake kinda cut this enough that it doesn’t turn me off of it. i don’t find this particularly lactonic on me but i can see the essence im just surprised since its listed as a top note. over all, i wish this had something like pear or yuzu to brighten it up a bit but i still like it. safe blind buy if you like skin scents. edit: the more i wear this, the more i like it. it’s so cozy ive been wearing it to bed 🥲 edit edit: this frag layered with lore sublimity is unreal. my new obsession

Great marketing and presentation. Happy I got the turquoise bottle added to my collection, it was a real FOMO! However the fragrance itself is not much of what I expected. I don’t smell milk and the sake note is quite strong in the opening, almost rubbing alcohol-like. In the dry down all that’s left is Iso-E, which comes through very quickly. Maybe that’s what they meant by “disappearing by dawn”, there is just nothing left from it a few minutes after spraying. I can also say that it’s nothing like The Ghost in the Shell, like someone else commented.

Upon first spray this is immediately likeable. A molecular cool-girl/guy skin scent which to me, is comparable to Arizona Bloom. However, the performance is unfortunately dismal and within 30 minutes of spritzing Next to Me or Nothing has in fact become nothing, barely detectable at all. A slightly summery salty take on sandalwood.

This is nice. Just nice. Cosy, warm, quiet. A skin scent for £190 though? I don’t think so. Gone within 30 mins.

Biggest recent disappointment for me. Straight alcohol on first spray...and yeah ... alcohol-y missing person. :/ I was sooo excited for this.

Just here to say this is stunning 🤩 and I bought a bottle immediately. A cold glass of sake, some florals and a comforting woody base. A really interesting take on a skin scent with a cool lotion like quality. It’s like a mix between You Soie, You Doux and a hint of Parisian musk with a sake note running through it. i KNOW that i love some of these notes but i just can’t get past the fact that this smells like spiced meat and star anise on me. the milk smells more like rice to me but i wish the jasmine and tonka bean were heavier. its creamy and very mild but not a good blind buy imo.

Missing Person’s saltier, more forlorn sister. The openings are very different but the dry downs, which occur just a few minutes in, are similar. MP is just a bit more floral imo. This is an extremely intimate scent, so if that isn’t your thing, be warned

LOOOOOOVE it so much. At first blush, reminiscent of many other skin scents but there is a soft glow that gently lifts this frag into something unique. If you blind bought that turquoise bottle and don't like it.... hmu LOL

I feel like all the discoteque DNA smells like old musty coats and mothballs. This is no exception. But it has a cozy tea vibe to it. The closest comparison that comes to mind is matcha 26 by Le Labo
