The One for Men

Getting ready to do a deep dive on my youtube about all the reformulations and I tried to acquire all of them that I could. So here are some thoughts in writing. Granted there is a pre release version of the fragrance that ive seen in pictures and people talked about that came out almost a full year earlier that had a leather note. But lets stick to 2008 with its official release and there after. That I can see and was able to get a hold of there are actually 2 versions that came out in 2008. Both with the same ingredients however slightly different and to add to a bit of a conspiracy theory since some people talk about it. The travel size version of the fragrance has 79% on it. Curiously again I can find no real full bottle with this. And even more curious the travel size from when I test it, is stronger and longer lasting. Then in 2013 it was reformulated and they got rid of the orange blossom note. Very easy to see on the packaging as well as the notes are different. In 2014 lilial /butylphenyl methylpropional started becoming restricted so I would assume that Dolce & Gabbana were given a early heads up and thats why it was removed. Curiously nothing to replace the orange floral note, and instead they added isoeugenol to the notes. Which makes sense because at the time the EDP version came out along with this new reformulated 2013 version. And I remember smelling the EDP and I was like.. It kinda just smells like the normal one but performs worse and theres more of a cardamom note almost like they were trying to go off the hype that La Nuit had going in the early 2010s. Which correct me if im wrong but isoeugenol is a part of cardamom oil. So again 2013, reformulated EDT comes out removes orange blossom, adds stronger cardamom note, weaker performance, EDP also comes out which smells even more similar to this EDT as well. Sometime after this a reformulated in France version comes out. I see some people saying it performs better and smells better than this reformulated 2013 version, however testing it myself, I dont smell much difference nor do I get much difference performance I guess the cardamom note is maybe slightly less? But for me at least in my initial testings I dont get anything drastic. And then finally in the past couple years, a NEW EDT and EDP come out. The EDT now is no longer even listed as a amber tobacco fragrance, and instead is actually listed a s a lavender fragrance. Now dont get me wrong I dont think it smells bad, but at this point I think calling it a reformulation is pretty forgiving. Although it does smell similar to a certain extent I think I would be inclined to say its a new fragrance honestly. The EDP is now more different than the EDT. I suppose a glass is half full view would be where as before I didnt see the point of owning both other than if you really love the scent, I guess now you could say they are different scents. That being said, in terms of these 2 new ones, although I do enjoy the opening of the new EDT, if I had to chose I would get the EDP no question. Just as someone who loves snuggley warm scents. This is the way to go, and I found myself constantly sniffing my arm while wearing it. I think it smells great. That being said performance on both are still meh.... In a perfect world, I would say get the original travel size. Or on the off chance you can find a 2008 get that. Other than that, honestly, id get the EDP that is out now.

This has been my "signature scent" for over a decade...might be closer to two. My other is Givenchy Blue Label which obviously hits the other lane that this generally doesn't fill during times of day, year, and situations. I have always loved the cocoa/chocolatey, bourbon vanilla, tobacco smell and the EDT is the perfect blend of that. Though I am aware they seemed to have reformulated it at some point after my current two bottles. I usually stay stocked up on this but had a long time of not needing to be out and about (lockdown included). So I had one open bottle and one unopened bottle in the stash. Both seem to not have as much of an issue with lasting long like others describe, just the projection thing is a factor so this is one I do spray more than my regular 2-3 times when I want to be "noticed". I took one to the Caribbean and wore it at night and was VERY successful at getting attention from women. They're much more "familiar" there and are not afraid to be close to you. Even got some questions from guys asking what I was wearing so they could look for it. Amazing as I was competing well with the Sauvage wearers in their era with something over 20 years old. I would say don't underestimate this in the warmer weather, just pick the right time to wear it and you'll stand apart appropriately. I've even built around this scent profile over the years. I use vanilla scented shea butter as a base (I do generally have to get it made custom these days though cause often there's too many other scents mixed in). Also I use Axe "Dark Temptation" scent body wash and also deodorant (spray mostly but sometimes the underarm instead in high heat) as I think it pairs with this EXTREMELY well. It DRASTICALLY improves the sillage (imo) and projection as they blend. Just don't over do the Axe spray if you already used the body wash. I grew up in the UK for a while as a kid so unlike others that were born and stayed in the US their whole lives, I'm VERY aware of how Axe (known previously as Lynx) is actually surprisingly effective as a weapon against the opposite sex. You just need to know what smell suits your body chemistry and also the right amount to use each time. If you like the EDT (and if it still smells chocolatey/bourbon vanilla/tobacco to you), try at least the Axe Dark Temptation body wash before using this and see if I'm lying.

Maybe my 3rd fragrance into collecting. Got a sample on scent bird and ended up getting 2 samples off scent bird because I liked it so much on first smell. Great versatile scent, one of my favorite dna's of all time, its like a refined orange... that's the simplest and most accurate way to describe it, its not a fresh orange like LV... something I'm not too familiar with the LV scents but theres a mandarin one, the one is on the opposite side of the spectrum where its warm and sweet, yet it can be warn any time of the year aside from maybe summer or if you live in a state like Florida or California maybe only during the night time. Anyway, i love this scent, i could recommend this to any man but don't wear it because I need to be the only one wearing this lol. The edp is better but I don't own it yet but I guarantee its better from the few times ive smelled it, its the same but better in every way, this edt lacks in sillage, depth, projection and longevity for me, in the winter months it can last up to 6+ hours as a skin scent but when it start to get warmer its not making it past the 4 hour mark atleast from my experience if I'm moving at all during the day or if its warm out this usually falls off significantly at the 2hr mark which is a shame because I love this scent so much. Would buy a second bottle and I do recommend this scent but I want to gatekeep it at the same time.

I personally choose fragrances per occasion, and (for me) The One EDT works for a specific purpose only but it does it so well: Wearing it dressed up to a dinner in a fancy restaurant where the food and the female company are the main attraction, with the fragrance completing your presentation- and the whole experience just elegantly and beautifully, with just enough presence and character. I love (and prefer) niche scents with more complex personalities any time and day, but The One EDT is such a quality blend that has enough freshness and spiciness to make you smell (irresistibly) masculine, sexy and elegant in a respectful way, that for the above scenario I choose this over the stronger niche ones, especially if the climate is 20-25c warm. FWIW, as much as I love them, I wouldn't wear the (vintage) Herods and Enigmas to an intimate restaurant opposite your date because on me they are a tad too loud for that purpose. The One EDT has just the amount of volume and fresh & mildly spicy presence to enhance you for a restaurant-scenario, and that's all I can ask from a fragrance in this case. Did I mention that this smells so freaking good? I will wear this over hotel dinners for holidays in Greece. (50ml bottle bought in 2024, batch 01013H1 , 79% vol., Made in Italy, rich and dense scent cloud for 2-3 hours but you can still detect it for days afterwards.)

I don't know why all the influencers rave about the EDP and now the new Parfum. They are good scents, but no flanker will ever beat the original in my opinion. Making something stronger doesn't always make it better. What I love about the original The One is that it's a beautiful blend of dark and fresh which makes it the most versatile in the line. Sure, this is not the first fragrance I would reach for on a hot summer day, but you could still pull it off if you really wanted. Even though the fragrance has a dark and seductive element to it, it's a rare gem that doesn't tie those notes together with an overwhelming amount of sweetness. The One is like dark chocolate while modern mass-appealing amber heavy scents are more like milk chocolate. It's playful, but it's a mature playful done with class. While I do think the EDP is perfectly fine and would probably be the better option during colder weather, it's a little "stuffy" for my taste. If you absolutely need performance, maybe the higher concentrations would be right for you, but don't be quick to dismiss the EDT. It's not the strongest performer, but it's a better scent overall. I give the EDT a solid 9/10. It's not quite a masterpiece, but it got awfully close. Also, with all the sweet/loud scents dominating the market these days, this one has aged like fine wine.

It is the definitive fragrance. I have leisurely compared it with its EDP counterpart on skin. I can confidently say that The One EDT is the superior composition, in the sense that it behaves like a symphony rather than a collection of individual instruments whose notes are easily identified. What is truly fascinating is that, for the longest time, I believed the EDP was the better fragrance. I now understand that this is simply not the case. The scent is beautiful, charming, intoxicating, and irresistibly attractive. Women become captivated by its trail, and when it is paired with the right outfit, tailored trousers, loafers, a fine watch, and a turtleneck sweater, you have everything you need to win hearts. Naturally, it excels during autumn and winter. Then again, if you live in regions beyond the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn, it can easily be worn all year round. Once again, the definitive fragrance.

This fragrance is where it all started for me back in 2016. I remember clearly watching Jeremy Fragrance at his peak and he was constantly mentioning D&G The One EDT and EDP multiple times in his videos as the ultimate sexy date night fragrance along side La Nuit de L'homme so I immediately got up and went to the mall and purchased a 50ML bottle of the one EDT (EDP wasn't out in NZ at the time) and man I instantly fell in love with the scent. This fragrance one of the first fragrance bottles I finished and at that time I had roughly 35 in my collection. I instantly went and bought another back up bottle back in 2017 and still have a half full bottle. I was always wearing this to work since I worked night shift and would pull so many compliments. Too bad the fragrance doesn't last long on my skin though... I would probably say only 3 hours max which is a shame for how beautiful this scent is. Definitely worth the hype!

I was hesitate about getting this frag bc of all the comments on poor performance. I decided to get it anyways. This frag actually lasts longer than some of my edps. If you shower and lotion your skin before applying. Also just double, triple layer your sprays. You will be fine. Get it if you are on the fence. This is one of the most sensual and soft yet masculine scents (it has like a lightly sweet tobacco scent to it) you will ever come across for the price proposition. Definitely the perfect date fragrance, It is also a very versatile frag. You can truly wear this all year round. Though I wouldn't wear it in the winter because of its lack of projection, etc. I wear it to the office too. The first time I wore it to the office I brought the bottle with me for reapplication but I didn't need to. I was still getting whiffs of it in the air 6-7 hours later. Performance is best in warmer weather.

The scent, OMG, the scent!!!! It's beautiful! I first bought a bottle back in 2007 or 2008 when it was first released. I smelled it in a little sample insert in a GQ magazine (do they still do have those in magazines?) and I can remember Matthew McConaughey was the face of the fragrance. I immediately ran to a Dillard's and bought a bottle! It's since been replaced by the EDP after I went through my first, second, and third bottles of the EDT. The performance was never really that good. It lasted about an hour or two before it became a VERY close skin scent for the next 3 or so, but my God was it the best fragrance to me! The scent itself is a 10 out of 10. The performance is a 3. Overall, it's a solid 7, maybe even an 8 since you can get a 100ml bottle for around $40. At that price, overspray the crap or of it and buy another bottle in a month 🤣

Wondering if this one is/or has been reformulated AGAIN. Is this 5 times now? Unless its a mistake on the official website they no longer list tobacco as a note and now have added lavender. To my knowledge there is now the the 2008 version, 2014, one around this time as well that differs from being made in france or the uk. One im not sure exactly time frame perhaps 2020s at some time, and now if the website is correct another one coming out that no longer even mentions tobacco and now says its a lavander fragrance. This is very strange. I suppose besides this, although ive never smelled it myself there was also supposedly a pre release version of that had different ingredients as well, however ive only ever seen pictures of it and never smelled it myself. Whatever the case sad how many formulations this seemingly has had.

Dolce and Gabbana The One edt is a great fragrance, and is one of my favourites. However, there is one problem that I face with this fragrance. It does not last! I keep putting on more and more of it, and it simply will not last any more than 4 hours at most, no matter how much you put on. I'm not the biggest fragrance guy, however I was stuck between this and Terre d'Hermès Parfum (I liked it more than the edt version) out of the fragrances that I have tried, but I would rather purchase Terre d'Hermès Parfum, despite the cost being way higher. I love the smell of The One, and would totally recommend it to anyone for a date night, or a dinner out, however if this is what you plan to wear to work everyday, you will have to bring the bottle with you if you want to have the scent by the end of the day.

I personally really love this fragrance. I don't love D&G and think this fragrance should be cheaper for the performance. However, I don't think it should be disregarded just because of that. I've been using this fragrance since before I ever "got into" fragrances beyond just buying them at retailers on sale, and no amount of people who refer to themselves as "connoisseurs", because they have a shopping addiction and are high off of smelling their own farts, can convince me it's bad. It's warm and pleasant; it doesn't do anything too ambitious, and I think that's a benefit. The more I try new fragrances, the more I feel they are trying to reinvent the wheel. This just works. If you can get it on sale, then I would recommend it, but I wouldn't recommend paying more than $50 for it.

One of the few men's scents that I really like! Not the most unique composition, but very well blended, easy to wear and enjoyable! Fresh, sweet, slightly spicy. I notice the tobacco but I don't think of cigarettes which means the note was well made. The amber is dominant and balances out the coriander and the ginger. The grapefruit makes the fragrance quite fresh. My only complaint is that the longevity is subpar. I get 3 or 4 hours out of this but I don't mind reapplying because it feels refreshing. Definitely spray your clothes with this as well. I quite like the bottle, the cap is stylish and heavy. Its feminine counterpart is even better. I have yet to purchase it but once I do, I will review it as well!

What’s odd is that for years I passed up on picking up a bottle of this every time I went to a department store because it’s been around for so long. Maybe it’s because I was use to seeing it or because the workers would use it as mace to blind you while asking you “fragrance? Try?” Anyway, I bought a bottle. Went to work and a few ladies came in, didn’t specifically mention the frag but we’re all over me and kept touching my back. Listen, I’ve been off my diet and eating a ton of KFC so I know damn well it isn’t my abs they were after. Damn, I should really start getting back in the gym. Crazy how a cologne makes you reevaluate your life at 1am. Regardless, go pick this one up lol.

Nose Note #305 I've already reviewed EdP version and now when comparing them side by side on each arm I must say they are different and I like the EdT more. It's more familiar - the THE ONE everyone remembers. The EDP is just different to me. Without smelling them at the same time EDP does smell like EDT, but in direct comparison - just two different things. EDP has the EDT base, but on top is has something like black currant accord. The EDT DNA is the thing they put in some mens shampoo just like they do with Bleu de Chanel. This DNA is in a lot of things - it's that popular. Beautiful, just an ultimate crowdpleaser, yet it's not boring or dull. Gorgeous scent for men.

Ok, Gentlemen...let me say, as a woman, JUST GET THIS. This is one of the most delightful fragrances I have ever smelled on a man. Ever. The love of my life was wearing this the night we met. When we danced, close, my head on his shoulder, this what I smelled. My. God. When he ran out of it, I bought more. This is, by far, my favorite fragrance on him. I smell sweet, yet masculine tobacco, lovely, rich amber, and sophisticated spices. This fragrance is appropriate for most occasions. Others have mentioned a less-than-average longevity, but this lasts a very long time on him. When he wears this before we go out, he's lucky to get out the door, 'wink, wink'.

The first fragrance I purchased (2015-ish) since Polo Sport at the tail end of the 1990's. Blew me away when I sprayed it on a tester strip at a Kohl's. Wore this exclusively for several months before succumbing to the pull of the fragrance hobby. I don't wear it as much anymore because I'm not in love with the drydown, but the opening is up there with my favorites of all time. I will still pull the bottle out of my dresser to smell the sprayer on occasion. I personally like the EDT more than than the EDP. For what it's worth, I was not impressed by what I smelled on a tester strip from a recent bottle at an Ulta.

Why isn't anyone talking about the notes being wrong? The notes listed are for the EDP. The correct notes for the EDT are: TOP Grand Vert basil, Italian Tarocco orange, and sparkling bergamot. HEART French lavender, entwined with orange blossoms and French clary sage. BASE Australian sandalwood, united with hints of cedarwood and the evocative scent of amber. İlk aşkım, ilk orijinal parfümüm... Keşke böyle olmasaydı, keşke 6-8 saat bari kalsaydın sıktığımda benle, ama maalesef hiç bir şeyin mükemmel olmadığı gibi bu parfümde mükemmel değil, ama sadece ve sadece performanı mükemmel değil. Bu parfümü sıkıyorsun ve iyi hissediyorsun. Gerçekten. Harika, müthiş, hem elegant aynı zamanda oyunbaz bir parfüm. Her kıyafete her ortama ayak uyduran, nerede sıkarsanız sırıtmayacak ve görevini yerine getirecen bir parfüm. Kör alıma uygun, buluşmalarda kullanılabilir. İKONİK 9.3/10

This one is really weak, but this is completely compensated by the beautiful melody of the scent. For me, it’s something very youthful, playful, and rich at the same time. Its flaw — the lack of sillage — is more like a benefit for me. I don’t want my fragrance to scream. In fact, I want it to be smelled only by the chosen ones in close encounters. That’s why it has been my signature fragrance for many years. I want to replace it, to be honest, but only because I change my signature fragrance every few years.

Everyone is talking about the reformulation of Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP which was officially announced, but The One EDT was also recently reformulated. Recent bottles list notes of orangs, bergamot, basil, lavender, sandalwood on them, not the grapefruit, cardamom, tobacco, amber we remember. Has anyone been able to get their nose on the new version? The EDT was always the best smelling version of The One. I need to know what they have done to it?

This is a fantastic fragrance that slipped out of my rotation. Recently just smelled it again and my god I forgot how good it is. It’s just very seductive and sexy. It shares a similar feeling that I get from YSL La Nuit De Homme. It’s just the perfect date night smell. The unfortunate part is it fades relatively quickly so you might be susceptible to over spraying on this one. Amazing scent profile. Would be an all time great if it had longevity.

This is in my to 5 scents. The grapefruit and amber notes are what stand out the most to my nose. This is the amber fragrance that I think of and compare all other amber dominated fragrances to. The downsides are its price and projection. It only projects for about an hour but it lasts extremely long (15+ hours) as a skin scent for me. It also layers really well with other fragrances like Riiffs Momento and French Avenues Spectre Ghost.

I'm a fan of this one.. This is for the guys that want to smell nice but also don't want to be obnoxious with it. It is a low key scent that remains somewhat close to the skin. It kind of says "I smell nice" without shoving it in your face. You will not get projection or sillage or any of that stuff with this, but you will smell mature like you don't have anything to prove to anyone. I think this scent would suit guys above age 30.

I really love the scent, it’s a great all rounder, but the performance SUCKS. I mean it. This would’ve been such a good fragrance if the performance would’ve been better. After 2 hours it’s just gone. And maybe only the first 30 minutes others can actually smell something, so in my opinion it’s not worth it. But scent wise it’s absolutely great. Wish they had better performance. (Hopefully the one EDP performs better)

It smells so good. Amazingly pure cold night vibe with a posch indoor event, this is what this scent smells like. Very fresh, soothing and gorgeous. It has to be a compliment getter. Need to spray at least 5+ times to get noticed. The only bad thing about it (and which is a big deal) is its bad projection and longevity. Why it smells so good and projects so bad? My rating 7.5/10

So effing sexy! I buy this regularly for my husband. I actually discovered it with the fragrance search thing on this website. I put in his favourite body wash and this came up, and he loves it and he can be hard to please. For him, it has moderate longevity and amazing sillage. I just want to jump his bones when he wears this. It's a great cologne for all occasions

The one is a fragrance I’m not sure I could describe, spicy herbal slightly sweet warm and sophisticated, smells like a man in a tuxedo, fresh but not shower gel fresh, it’s airy and light. Smells absolutely amazing but it doesn’t project at all and has little longevity, I seriously spray 5-7 times just for an arms reach sillage. Still 9/10 smells so good

sprayed this at a duty free store and yall its so damn good it lasted a reall decent amount of time on my skin too maybe 8 ish hours but its such an amazing warm spicy fragrance its my life goal to get another bottle of this when i finally graduate uni and get a job it smells so good that i will drink it and let you guys know how it tastes

a delightfully freshly spicy opening that quickly becomes a sweetly floral cardamom heavy blend. The orange blossom is fluffy and sweet here, but still feels masculine with an aromatic ginger and warm spices. The dry down has a beautiful warmed tobacco with dry woods and amber that has some resinous sweetness to it. A gorgeous composition!

Great scent, versatile, year round, fresh but still sweet and spicy, seductive and lowkey. Longevity is pretty bad, this isn't a projection beast but more of a date profile. Got it for 2 years, I think the masceration made it even more heavy on the amber in a nice way, at least on clothes it has alot of sweet amber that smells very sexy.

If this fragrance had better projection and longevity it would be the best male fragrance ever made imo. Sweet, yet clean and masculine! I find myself buying it again and again, but now I always take a small decant with me, because after 3h it's almost all gone, so you have to resray it. Other than that, I just love its DNA!

This and YSL La Nuit De L'Homme are like the OG romantic fragrances. Like the Beatles and the Stones, or Biggie and Tupac. I like them both, but this is my choice. Wore this for my wedding, and it is an absolute classic. I know they recently changed the EDP and made a new Parfum, but I hope they don't touch this one bit

My signature scent. Forever. It’s the best smelling liquid substance on earth. Fresh, yet sexy. Warm, yet bright and herbal. Amber, yet refreshing. It’s the greatest male scent ever divised, and yes it is weak. Buy a portable atomizer and re spray every 2 1/2-4 hours. Be the best smelling person on the planet.

For the price this is a great date night/winter fragrance. On my skin it lasts quite long for an edt, as I will catch whiffs of this throughout the day. Its a smooth ambery tobacco scent with hints of the other notes. Overall I would recommend this one for a good cooler weather allrounder for all ages.

After running out of Versace Pour Homme I wanted something a little less light, and this ticks the boxes for me. Beautifully sophisticated, slightly fermented natural candied orange notes. I had a dupe of this first which was pretty good, but the real deal is noticeably more natural and layered.

bought for SO. smells like a firelit living room with leather couch and fancy velvety carpet. he can wear it to work all day and still smell it on him after. intimate siliage. dry down is more on the sweet tobacco side id say (as opposed to the cedar), but the opening is not too tobacco.

when i was in high school 12 years ago, my best friend who i was slightly crushing on ordered me to wear this to this day, i still love the amber/tobbaco mix that this is giving, the lightness of every other tones makes it incredibly pleasant to wear, without ever being too obnoxious

Masterpiece 10/10 scent. People rate the edp higher but the edt is actually fresher. The performance issue is blown out of proportion, for a fresh fragrance it does just as well as it is supposed to in sillage and longevity. I once had it last 15 hours on skin believe it or not.

I personally prefer the Edt because I live in a hotter climate and it’s more versatile and summer friendly unlike the edp. Very sweet sexy boozy scent with that slight hint of citrus. Fantastic fragrance Scent: 8 Performance: 8 on skin, 6 on clothes Sillage: 7 Overall: 7.5

I really love The One EDT. It smells great, even a bit addictive. Masculine, sweet and a little bit fresh at the same time. But not candy sweet. Also, for me longetivity does not seem to be bad. Its quite good, just got my 100ml bottle yesterday. Projection is ok too.

I sometimes pay it for my dad or my siblings to wear it so I can smell it around the house cuz basically it’s not my type of vibe I want my skin to give off, but I’m obsessed with that perfume and I’m probably gonna repurchase it so I can sniff it sometime...

I remember smelling this fragrance on a bartender, at an OUTSIDE bar, from about 15 feet away. There was a light breeze and I was down wind. Don't be a frag community knucklehead. "It’s weak, it’s weak. Can't smell it after 10min"...blah blah blah. BULL 💩.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely adore this fragrance! As an introvert, I don't often venture outside at night, but I make an exception and wear it to bed. It's like a little hug in a bottle, with a relaxing and calming aroma that instantly puts me at ease.

Such an underrated fragrance, quickly became one of my favorites. Its smooth and masculine yet not overbearing, great for date nights. The scent is very sophisticated and unique for its price point, the only issue I have is the weak projection.

nice male fragrance for all year around(please dont spray a lot in the summer), its not gourmand but i want to drink it. manly and classy. i dont know what gives sweetness in it, but i really like tobacco and orange blossom note in here

People mostly complain about the short longevity, but since this fragrance is not too expensive, you can always have a bottle with you when you need a little refresh. This perfume is so good that it is worth always having it with you.

This is the best date night scent for younger guys, the EDP may have slightly better performance but is a lot more masculine smelling, and this is already very masculine. A beautiful combination of amber, tobacco and spices. 10/10

Really beautiful men's fragrance. I bought this when it came out and was completely in love with it. Last year I thought I had gone off it when I wore some in the summer but then I tried it again in Autumn and I loved it again.
