Velvet Incenso

Continuing my dive into the distinguished Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Collection, today I'm turning my attention to Incenso. The note of incense is a fascinating one, capable of immense variation from fragrance to fragrance. It can present as church-like, smoky, or a gentle spice, but if mishandled, it can also come across as jarring and acrid. While I would naturally expect this fragrance to be incense-heavy, my previous experience with Black Patchouli has tempered those expectations. Let's get into it and see if Incenso lives up to its evocative name. Opening: The opening is a complex and arresting blend of spice, textured smokiness, and balsamic tones. The primary notes I discern are incense, elemi, black pepper, and patchouli, with incense and elemi being the most prominent. Unlike Black Patchouli, which I reviewed yesterday, Incenso stays remarkably true to its name with an immense blast of incense upon first application. This incense is distinct from any other I've encountered; it feels denser, heavier, and more authentically rendered, like catching a waft from a ceremonial thurible swaying down the aisle of a Catholic church. With its intensely smoky and spicy facets, this is the truest manifestation of "churchy" incense I have ever smelled. Trailing behind the incense is a sizable portion of elemi, which imparts a piquant, balsamic accord, nuanced by aspects of fresh, zesty brightness and a hefty dose of woodiness. Black pepper and patchouli join the composition next. The black pepper contributes yet another layer of sharp, zesty spiciness with its inherent nose-tickling qualities. Lastly, patchouli grounds the opening with a subtle base of earthy greenery. Dry Down The dry down continues to be dominated by smokiness, spice, and balsamic resins. The most prominent notes remain the incense and elemi. The same commanding, smoky, and spicy accord of the incense is still at the forefront of the fragrance, as are the woody and bright balsamic tones of the elemi. Following this central core, benzoin and patchouli emerge. The benzoin adds a subtle, warm, and sweet resinous tone; while it falls into the same balsamic category as elemi, its presentation is distinctly different, providing a comforting, subtle sweetness. Lastly, the patchouli still lingers in the background as a whisper of green, dusty earthiness. Performance The initial projection is quite strong, reaching out approximately six feet. Sillage matches that intensity with an easily noticeable and substantial scent trail. After about three to four hours, the projection and scent trail were largely unchanged. When I checked again around the seven-hour mark, the fragrance had become a skin scent, meaning the final projection and sillage most likely dissipated around the five to six-hour mark. This mirrors my experience with Black Patchouli precisely. When to Wear Incenso is a fragrance best suited for fall and winter, particularly for evening wear. It epitomizes the concept of a special or formal occasion scent, possessing an elegant and sophisticated aura that is sure to command attention. Due to its powerful and commanding nature, I would reserve this fragrance only for those times and would not wear it casually or in an office environment. Blind Buy I would not classify Incenso as a safe blind buy. This is a very particular type of fragrance that will appeal to specific tastes. While it may not be widely mass-appealing, if you are a true enthusiast of incense notes, this is "required reading" in my opinion. Final Verdict I must begin by saying that Incenso does a much better job of living up to its name than Black Patchouli did. From the opening to the dry down, incense was the clear focal point of the fragrance. And not just any type of incense, but a potent, realistic, and truly captivating rendition that commands respect. It takes this fragrance far beyond what you might typically expect from a designer house, elevating it into the realm of a niche brand like Amouage. Suffice it to say, Incenso has succeeded in shattering my expectations of what a house like Dolce & Gabbana can create, and it has shown me what a truly authentic incense note can accomplish. While it may not have been a "beast-mode" powerhouse, it still demonstrated very respectable performance, and with such a powerful note, that is probably a very good thing. I likely won't rush out to buy this immediately, simply because I don't see myself wearing something this distinguished very often, but I would happily welcome a full bottle of this fragrance into my personal collection. This smells amazing in the dry down. The Resin & Vanilla combo is fantastic, the incense note is still there...But it's much weaker, which I'm fine with. This is perfect for the mid-fall throughout all of Winter. I see and understand why this is best worn in cold weather and at night. So this would be perfect for a night time date, during Thanksgiving, Xmas & New Years. Like for those who like to stand out in the cold for 12 hours plus, just to watch the ball drop in Times Square NY. If you wore this fragrance around that time, for that event or a Christmas party, it would make an awesome scent memory. Just saying. The opening and mid levels of this fragrance screams... I'm here! Not too bad, I kinda overdid it with six sprays. I'll stick to four when it comes to this frag. My coworkers had a few words for me. Coworkers: "i can smell me from the lobby door" which is 30ft plus away from me. Me: "is it a bad scent or a good one" Coworkers: "You're good, I like it." Will update this later, when...? "Winter is coming". I used six sprays...both wrist, back & front of my neck, chest, and front of my shirt. Will I buy this again? No(Doubt I'll find another deal like this again to make me want to buy another one). What's the strength of this? EDP. Does this fragrance enter BEAST MODE, good, just okay or weak sauce at best? Beast mode. Can you use it as a unisex scent? Yes. Am I willing to trade this fragrance? Yes. Should You Skip It, Sample It First or Blind Buy It? Sample it first! Ask someone who already has it for a 2-5ML decant. Or try it out at a Nordstrom, Saks & Fifth Avenue and Dolce & Gabbana boutique. Very similar to these fragrances; hmmm... maybe El Born. Is it the old, new formulation? New. What's its availability; in production, limited edition run or discontinued? In production. Today I applied from a sample to my skin (forearms, back of the hands and neck/upper chest) and it's dried-down now. My thoughts: It's more subtle on skin than on paper, on paper (which I did yesterday) it was a strong burst of incense and wood and very clear and punchy. On my skin though it seems a lot more subtle, I can still smell the notes of smoke, incense and wood, but whatever is underneath all of that is pushing forward much more now as well. I will say that in my life I use a lot of incense and love wood tones in fragrances, incense reminds me of ancient times which I have an affinity to, so this fragrance should be right up my alley. But it didn't end-up exciting me as much as I thought it would. It's a sophisticated and elegant extremely well put-together fragrance but not a strong one. The incense and wood notes are very well-supported by the other notes which gives it a nice rounded complexity. Even though wood tones can sometimes be kind of heavy, it has a nice lightness and airiness to it which lifts it up and prevents it from getting too heavy. It's much more on the intimate side which is not always a bad thing depending on the specific situation you're using a fragrance for. It smells expensive. It smells like it would suit older men. It would be good for formal occasions or business. I would wear this in an office or business setting for sure, or on a date over dinner or meeting someone at a cocktail bar, anywhere where subtlety would be appreciated. This is not one of those fragrances you would wear to let others know you were around and make an impression, it's more one of those you wear so when people get closer to you they pick up a whiff of something really nice and have a good reaction to you. As I said, sitting with someone over a candle-lit table in a swanky cocktail bar leaning-in to each other and having a deep conversation, going out for a meal and walking side by side on the way home, more intimate personal settings. I do like it a lot being I like incense and wood so much and that it's such a well put-together fragrance and I will eventually buy a bottle, but I'm not in a hurry to do so. I'll get it with certain situations in mind and it won't be any kind of signature scent because I think I would probably get bored with it if I wore it all the time anyway which would be a shame because it's a lovely fragrance. But only for certain niche situations. EDIT: I wanted to add that it had long lasting power, it lasted a good 8 hours on my skin.

What does a church smell like? I think it is a combination of four elements. First, the clear smoke of frankincense and myrrh. Frankincense has a bright resinous scent with a faint lemon-like freshness, slightly sweet with a soft smokiness. Myrrh is deeper, more medicinal and bitter. When burned together they create a gentle, floating smoke. Second, the cool grayness of stone walls. Old churches are often built from limestone or sandstone. These materials absorb moisture, so the air carries a faint scent of cold stone, dampness, and dust. Third, the warmth of beeswax. During services many candles burn at once, and the air fills with the soft, slightly sweet scent of melted beeswax. After the flames go out, a trace of soot remains and blends with the incense smoke, making the atmosphere heavier. Fourth, the lingering scent of old wood and fabric. Vestments, prayer books, benches, and the gathered congregation all add their own quiet layers of smell. As someone familiar with both perfume and Catholic churches, I can say this: no fragrance I’ve tried captures the smell of a church more convincingly than this one. The first spray feels like pushing open the heavy wooden door of a church. The air suddenly becomes cooler. Frankincense appears immediately, its soft smoke resembling the resinous haze from burning incense, without any harsh burnt note—more like the lingering ash of incense on the walls. Soon black pepper and resin rise in the background. There is the scent of wood touched by heat, and also the coolness of damp stone. In the heart, frankincense and labdanum gradually merge, producing a soft bitterness with a noticeable resinous warmth, almost sticky as if heated. The scent settles downward, revealing a dry woody tone. In the drydown, amberwood and patchouli bring warmth, with benzoin adding a gentle sweetness beneath. This sweetness is warm rather than sugary, like the soft vapor released from heated resins. The frankincense runs through the entire composition like a quiet murmur of prayer. The longevity is strong. Even the next day a faint veil of smoke remains. On clothing it lasts even longer, leaving a subtle trace well into the following day.

The opening of Velvet Incenso is very true to the smell of actual Frankincense. It's Balsamic, Piney, & Citric. The note of Labdanum works its Resinous magic & ties all of the notes together into the scent of unburned Incense. But dont think "Head Shop" Incense Sticks. Because It doesnt smell like that. This fragrance smells like authentic Incense Resins. It's Balsamic. Its Peppery. Its dry. Its Ambry & Vanillic, but only subtly sweet. Theres also a dusty warm & spicy undertone that feels like Cassia (Cinnamon Bark). The note of Cashmere Wood makes the overall experience Musky & Sensual. Making Velvet Incenso aptly named. Its a beautiful Incense fragrance that doesnt at all remind me of a Catholic Church. But rather, it reminds me of the Middle East & tales from 1001 Nights. If I had to compare Velvet Incenso to any other fragrance I would say it falls somewhere between Tom Ford's Sahara Noir, & Amber Absolute. This fragrance smells Royal, Mysterious, Ethereal, & sexy on the right person wearing the right dark outfit. Velvet Incenso isnt the fragrance of the loudest person in the room. This is the fragrance of the person who sits alone & draws you in with their enigmatic charm. Longevity is over 10 hours on my skin with moderate projection for 2 hours. On Clothes Velvet Incenso lasted days. Off Clothing projection was above average with a lasting sillage trail. Its important to note that Velvet Incenso is not a heavy Incense fragrance. Its light with only a bit of weight. So it lingers very well in the air without being a Beast.

WOW. Take me, I'm yours ... because dreams are made of this. Frankincense and pepper and resin so dry they're almost papery, fading almost to the most precious, bone-dry, fragrant sawdust I can imagine. Not too rich or too sweet, despite the vanilla; I can't detect the patchouli at all, which is no great loss. Cracking black pepper note (sorry) and very elegant elemi. Oh so very very dry throughout, almost powdery, but without a whisper of talc or sugariness ... it's the smell of an archaic sackload of desert resins being unloaded at a dusty way station. For me that's one of the loveliest aromas ever. Seems disrespectful to call it 'unisex skewing a tiny bit masculine' - it's just better than any of your old-fashioned class, gender or genre preconceptions. Not gigantic, and the projection is more of an airy mist than a throbbing force field, but the longevity is surprisingly solid, so with something this lovely I can be persuaded not to care. (And if given a lavish, generous spray, it also leaves a noticeably oily, essence-rich trace behind on skin for a good quarter-hour after application.) While not weird enough to be truly unique - it evokes little wisps of Avignon, Wienerblut Ex Voto, Cardinal, Piguet Casbah, Larmes du Desert and a host of the other incense greats, rather than striking out onto a whole other adventure - its quality and restraint are definitely distinctive. Truly beautiful. And overpriced. But worth hunting out.

I smell this at an airport in Europe. Can't remember which airport, but I remember I hated that first sniff. I thought it was overly sweet and too much vanilla. As I walked away and kept sniffling my wrist, I found myself wishing to own this perfume. This is the one that got my interest in perfume and incense perfumes. Yes, you get the incense, but it is not only incense. It's smokey, slightly sweet and feels so elegant. It reminds me a bit of Passion by Elizabeth Taylor but with frankincense. It was 270 EUR at the airport, but I found it at an online Italian shop for 230 EUR, and I just had to buy it. You can find it nowadays for about 160 USD. Projection is great, and longevity is even better. A couple sprays in the morning and I can still smell it at night. Not to mention on my clothes, it will stay until I wash them. I think it is an often overlooked fragance, that is actually a gem.

I was quite looking forward to receiving the sample size Velvet Incenso. To me it is a lovely smelling fragrance, with a sweet & smooth floral/vanilla note, combined with an amber and incense tone. It is very well blended and nothing dominates too heavily and the dry-down is simply beautiful. I would say it's unisex, leaning to masculine due to the incense/spicy notes. Best worn in Autumn or winter and probably by a mature aged person, say over 30. However, for such an expensive fragrance I would expect it to project well and last all day, but unfortunately, it does not. Sadly after 2 or 3 hours I could barely detect any smell at all and thus will not be purchasing a full bottle of this great smelling scent. Smell 8.5/10, projection 7/10 & longevity 5/10. Such a shame that the performance of Velvet Incenso lets it down.

Growing up in Northern California, this smells like the Sierra Nevadas especially like Yosemite. The pines, the needles, the lands and the incense cedar and sugar pine. An exact replication of the largest Cathedral here...Yosemite. It’s like walking around the valley with the Half Dome and El Capitan towering above you. Exact moment and very meditative. Takes me back as a child walking through the coniferous forest with all the granite boulders strewn about. No brainer for me, bought a bottle! Wow, brings back mountain memories of childhood! Finally acquired a large bottle at the discounters! This is an exact replica of the coniferous forests of the Sierra Nevadas. Love it! I just can’t believe an exact profile of a sunny day in the mountains.

I bought this a couple of years ago, as I was looking for a church incense and this is spot on. It does take me back to memories of being in an orthodox/Eastern European church. Starts as a very strong incense and overtime it becomes sweeter and smoother. Longevity is crazy good-I could still smell it on my skin the next day. I have tried both Sahara noir and Ensence Prive and they are definitely the same type of scent so if you have one you don't need the other 2, but I would say Sahara Noir feels more dry and ES is not as sweet as Velvet Incenso. Definitely one of my favourites even though I don't wear it very often, as it is a very nostalgic scent for me and transports me back to another place and time.

incense. pure incense. i can't smell the other notes that much, they seem to blend right in with the incenses smell and i love it. well, i wish i could smell more of the vanilla blended in or the benzoin and less of the patchouli but overall, i like this. not an overly sweet incense but a more smokey, dark with just a tad sweet. for me it's an interesting, statement perfume but i think for men, its intended audience...... you'd have to be ok with smelling like a buddhist church. i would say catholic church but this is even more flamboyant. toyboy by moschino laughs maniacally at this as far as bold fragrances go. i say, thank goodness this is smokey and nothing else.

Boy oh boy, I was searching for a perfume that gives off a dark, church-like vibe and this hits the nail on its head. I truly did not expect something so fascinating as this perfume but I am glad I found it. At first, on my skin, the scent was reminiscent of candles and heavy incense. Then, these notes bloomed beautifully together into a beautiful, dark, sweet yet spicy scent with some woody notes. It holds up for up to four hours, easily, and the sillage is moderate which I find perfect. If you like dark, church incense scents, try it. In my opinion, it is perfect for autumn, especially evenings and nights.

This one was an instant love!! It also rang the old Gucci Pour Homme 1 bell with me, but with cranked up incense. I have over 5,000 fragrances, and this one went straight to the head of the class, and has remained there through a fall and partial winter of wearing. It never fails to grab my attention throughout the day, as it has decent longevity. This one will most likely remain a hidden gem, an underrated star that could have been a contender, but was never given the chance. Too bad its discontinued. If you like woods and incense or have a love of Gucci PH 1, then grab this before it becomes a unicorn.

Sits somewhere between Gucci Pour Homme 1, and Sauf Contre Bombarde 32, perhaps sweeter, churchier, and more unisex than the former, and less sweet and woodier than the latter. Its a solid release, possibly worth secondary market prices now, as it is on par with the Sauf in the price range. I would keep it as a great entry in the churchy incense category, but would also swap it for the Sauf if I had the chance just because I prefer the caramel with the elemi in that one.

Beautiful church incense fragrance. There's an almost dampness to the wood notes. Reminds me of walking through an old Catholic church museum in the Philippines where you could just smell that all the wood work was original construction (and I walked through twice to smell it again!). Longevity and sillage are great. Similarly priced to Jovoy's La Liturgie de Hueres which, to me, smells a bit more natural.

This is the one that smells the most like incense in my collection. I have the clone by Milestone called Black Insenso. Identical bottle and cap. Very poor longevity and barely any scent bubble, but stays close to the skin and is very cozy. Great for evenings or before bed. I got it in the summer at Marshall’s ($14.99, discounted to $13) so maybe I will love it more in the winter.

Serious and mature incense fragrance. Smells like the Catholic church incense I remember. Set against resins and woods. More for night time in autumn/fall and winter. Very formal. Not incredibly versatile, unless you're an older gentleman that takes a lot of important business meetings throughout the day. Also good for high-end bars, fancy restaurants, and funerals.

I blind bought a bottle fairly cheap on an auction site (legit reseller). It's all incense. Dry but warm. I love it! Performance if kind of meh though. Sillage only lasts two hours - tops! This is why I stay away from the expensive fragrances.. Might smell nice, but never worth the price if it doesn't perform. It's a new bottle so here's to hoping....

Very carnal and extreme incense. A slow burning in the background that soon reveals elemi and benzoin. This is home, comfort and a cousin to Encens suave. But more rugged, intense and lots more incense. Velvet Incenso makes ES look like an easy fragrance to wear. ES being more smoother, more benzoin-vanilla and less incense.

Courtesy of @sambool, I learned that I yearn to smell like an elderly middle eastern woman. ;) But for realsies, should I keel over in the next year or two, someone douse my funeral pyre with this scent and send me off to whatever realm I'm destined for while smellin' DEEEE-LIIIIIISSSSSSHHHHHHHHH.

It’s peppery, deeply resinous, with an undercurrent of sweet smoke, grounded by incense and woods. Dark, gothic, mysterious, sexy. This is a man dressed in all black from head to toe. Black on black everything. Whether a formal all black suit/shirt/vest/tie, or black tee & black jeans.

Dry and peppery church incense with vanilla lurking in the backdrop. I don’t find this similar to incense suede, which takes a leathery direction instead of the vanillic sweetness found here. Longevity is pretty good for an incense based perfume, also. Pretty great stuff from d&g here

This is delicious, luxe, and very church-y, but the church is in Italy with beautiful stain glass windows and fresco ceilings. It's sensual and very suitable for colder weather or at night.

Gotta love Fragrantica. Says that this perfume is overpriced, yet the top "Reminds me of" fragrances are all hundred$ at retail. Seems like the product is fairly priced then, no?

Feels like a remix of Armani's Bois d'Encens and (now discontinued) Encens Satin; if you liked both but couldn't settle with either one, this is a winner 😉

Marketed as a masculine scent, this is easily unisex. If you are an incense lover you really need to get your nose on this. Spiritual and otherworldly.

One of the best incense fragrances out there, no doubt. and I'm sure this is the best of this whole velvet line of Dolce & Gabbana.

I think summer was the wrong time to try this, not because it’s too much or cloying in the heat (it’s night right now though, and not too hot) but this is just such a cozy type of scent that I feel it can only truly shine in colder weather, so I will tuck away my sample until then before I even consider a full bottle. Because right now this is very beautiful, but it just isn’t doing it for me. It feels “boring”, but not really, I think it is just mismatched for this time of the year and this weather. Anyway. It is quite lovely. A much softer, lighter, airier Sahara Noir with a decent injection of Ambre Sultan as well, but again, the light, airy, soft version. This is about as light and airy and soft AND has the exact same vibe as Dior Bois d’Argent but the actual scent is more like Sahara Noir + Ambre Sultan. It also reminds me a bit of an MFK perfume I tried years ago, one of the Soirs, either cologne pour le soir, absolu pour le soir, or grand soir. It’s the benzoin. My only fear is that since this is already quite soft in the summer, that it will be far too soft in sillage in colder weather. However, I also only have a dabber vial, and I find those greatly reduce sillage vs a spray, so perhaps that’s a non-issue when using the spray. My other gripe about this scent is that, at least among niche perfumes, it is a super common scent. All niche perfume-heads have smelled something like this before, and will have several, probably many, perfumes to reference this to, unless you are BRAND spanking new to the niche game. It has been done to death. I don’t own Sahara Noir, Bois d’Argent, or any of the MFK Soirs. If I did, or any of the multitude of other similar niche perfumes I’ve yet to try, then I probably wouldn’t even consider buying this for a second. But I don’t, and I’m kind of a sucker for the D&G velvet bottles and want at least one in my collection so... as of right now, this is a maybe. It’s very chic and beautiful, don’t get me wrong, it just earns zero points in the uniqueness/creativity department. At the time of this review this is a solid like.

#577 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Kudos to D&G on a nice scent. If you're just in it for the incense you could save $50 with Montale's less complex "Full Incense." At $70 it's a nice scent at a fair price. I'd ask myself, "Is the difference made by the the benzoin, amber and cashmere significant enough to be worth $130 bucks to me?" I think it would be if this were a little more potent, as I do love cashmere scents. But while longevity with this is okay (Makes it to lunch) there's not great projection at any point (Same thing I'd say about the the other D&G EDPs on my shelf. But on average I paid $70 for them). For that reason you can probably wear this most anywhere, including the office, if you don't overspray, but it's probably more for the enjoyment of your intimate others than for anyone standing arm's length or further. I don't expect this to be a strong compliment getter, but the day is young. If I'm wrong I'll update. BTW, as an experiment I layered Montale "Full Incense" ($70) with Cremo "Spice and Black Vanilla"($22) and it's pretty close. So I don't need to spend $130 on this D&G scent to smell like this for now. But if I didn't already have those two scents on the shelf, I would probably just go ahead a get a bottle of this.

Fragrance delivers as promised, this is one for those who love incense fragrances. Opens with pepper and incense - dries down to a softer burning wood note with a little sweetness in the background (not sure if this is the labdanum or vanilla). Fragrance is dry and spiritual, lasts the whole day and projects for the first couple of hours. For me personally this fragrance takes me to specific place. I visited Turkey a short while back, our hotel had a spa which had this herbal incense scent in the air, we used the sauna there and this fragrance reminds me of this place. The smoky/burning woody notes in the sauna combined with the incense is basically what's in this bottle. Velvet Incenso is a like for me, it would be a love however it's not versatile enough. I would wear this when relaxing, writing music or any situation where I need to meditate/concentrate. It seems to be a very personal fragrance, something one wears in their own time. Already rare and hard to find, it's going to be discontinued end of this year. Which is unfortunate since we have so many generic fragrances and very few of the ones that take you on a journey like this one does. A solid 8 out of 10.

I’m surprised cedar or similar isn’t listed up top, as the scene opens in a Swedish sauna. The hot, dry woodiness yields over time to incense and resins - rich and deep but without projection. If you have occasion for wearing something no one will smell unless nose-to-skin, hey it’s lovely, but dollar-for-dollar it does pale compared to the other incense scents out there (of which Heeley’s Cardinal remains my boo).

My first D&g from this line I had high hopes for the fragrance but unfortunately it was less than what I expected I would’ve preferred if it was stronger Nothing unique here You can easily smell the benzoin and incense If you like fragrances such as amber sultan or Sahara noir this will be a very close relative to those scents Overall a little overpriced for what it is

Smells like church. Similar to TF Sahara Noir, but less complex. I dont want to smell like priest. Moreover it is a sin to wear frankisence: frankisence is for the God.

At first, you get sweet amber then on the drydown you get some black pepper, amber and vanilla but the amber is significantly less prominent. 7/10

Lovely, subtle frankincense with a hint of vanilla. The smell is beautiful. Performance is miserable. How I miss Sahara Noir.

At some point this seemed like the most perfect real church-like incense scent. I was wanting to get a bottle for a long time... And ended up purchasing it along with Encens Suave Extrait by Matiere Premiere. I know, although both are primarily incense scents, they are entirely different. And although I love incense scent, for me it is enough to have 1 or at most 2 incense scents and as I love gourmands, Encens Suave Extrait is my absolute favourite. I'm also keeping Full Incense by Montale as it has something more contemplative, airy to it (reminds me of New Look by Dior) and also is a grate value. As for Velvet Incenso, it is a more masculine leaning (I'm female), and also balsamic (almost play-dough at times) and pepper notes are a bit bothering me on my cold skin. So will be letting this one go. Performance is good though.

I love incense scents, especially those that smell like a Catholic church. My top ones are, Montale Full incense, Heeley Cardinal, Ashley Oud, etc. The perfume is very well put together, quality ingredients are used, but the poor, really poor longevity is what makes this perfume bad. Even the cheap Ashley with its Oud will last much longer. After spraying, the perfume behaves like lit incense in a censer. From the beginning sweet like Full Incense Montale, over time the sweetness changes to burn and you feel that the incense is burning down and you need to add more, just a burn. A very nice triangle, but it doesn't justify the really huge price. I do not recommend buying a large package, just a tester, for the price that is sold in Europe, I will buy at least 3 pieces of Montale Full Incense 100ml.

If you've ever been to a Catholic church (or other church ceremonies) when they burn the incense in that lantern thing they swing around, it smells exactly like that. This is a straight up smokey incense smell. It's really simple. If you want to smell like incense then you'll like it. If you don't want to smell like incense then you won't like it. The longevity is terrible. This is one of the shortest lasting fragrances I've ever tried. I put one spray on my wrist about 20 minutes ago and already almost gone.

This one instantly took me back to the incense burnt at Catholic churches. As it develops it turns woodsy and balsamic. Not as ambery or sweet as Velvet Amber Sun and definitely smokier. It almost smelled like burning sage. It has a bit of sweetness too. I like that it's unisex and it can be worn by anyone. Although its intereseting and complex, I don't wan't to remember my religious trauma.

If you've smelled the hem brand dragon's blood incense, this smells strikingly similar to that. Mature fragrance, definitely wants to be dressed up. I like it, but I think there are more versatile winter fragrances out there.

If you're a man, from any of the gulf countries, don't buy it. Smells like what old women spray their sheilas and abayas with. Extremely disappointed with this purchase. Passed it on to my grandmother.

I love incense but this has a prominent dry dusty pepper accord that is a bit overwhelming for me. That accord mellows out very well but it tough to get through.

First incense-heavy scent. You can really smell the balsam in this one. Smells very much like a really hot day in church and candles burning. Definitely not my taste but if you like oud and masculine woody scents you'll probably enjoy this one. Though I can't say I see the appeal in smelling like a church...

Not a fan. The initial spray is okay, but after 5 minutes or so the balsamic notes get way too strong off my skin. Very dry, and similar fragrances can be found for less.

Just got my bottle, gave it a full test wear: If this line has been a sleeper, this fragrance will surely wake some up to it. This is a frankincense-centric scent, IMO, splitting the difference between CDG Avignon and Encens Satin. Opening with a sparkling pepper note, it settles down to a gorgeous and realistic frankincense aroma that has had its corners rounded a bit by vanilla and benzoin. In my opinion this would be a little redundant next to Avignon, however Velvet Incenso has much better performance. Not as loud as Encens Satin, but if you have smelled it this isn’t very far from it...and of course, this has all the polish and class of an Italian fashion house. Incense lovers will not be disappointed, even if it is familiar. Update: Just did a test with my wife to see if she could determine which hand was sprayed with Velvet Incenso and which one with Encens Satin...She wears Encens Satin regularly. She got the blind test wrong. That’s how similar these two are...Not carbon copies but extremely similar...this isn’t a bad thing but just my observation Update: I find this more wearable than Encens Satin. I get a noticeable amount more frankincense and none of the ambery laundry like dry down of Encens Satin. It honestly last 8+ hours. Wore it on my hand two sprays, still smell it and it still smells like incense.

I've just tried this as a sample size , and so far, I absolutely adore it. It's such a beautiful, dry, woody fragrance. It honestly reminds me of hiking through the Australian bush, ether on a very dry hot day or right after a sun shower when the rain is still soaking into the foliage on trees, fallen branches and the thick leaf litter on the ground. Releasing a beautiful steamy blanket of dry, woody, eucalyptusy oils. (My partner also agreed that it also evoked a similar memory for her.)While I can smell the pepper, incense, and resinous notes, the vanilla is very light, and I would not describe this as a sweet fragrance at all despite other reviewers describing it as such. I have to inhale it on my skin, very deeply to get any sweetness from it at all. While I haven't been to a church that traditionally burns incense I can't personally attest to its similarities, however this is a fragrance that I will be repurchasing

Holy smoke! This may just be my new holy grail. For ages, my reigning holy grail scent has been Gucci Pour Homme. Hands down, Velvet Incenso is the closest reincarnation I've ever smelt to Gucci's glorious 2003 fragrance. People often mention Michel Almairac's Bentley For Men Absolute as being something of a reimagining of his earlier Gucci creation. To my nose, Velvet Incenso is much closer. But it's even deeper, woodier, smokier. It's like an exquisite wood polish for the pews in some ancient chapel. It's perfection. If you've ever wondered what Gucci Pour Homme Intense would smell like, here's the answer. So is Velvet Incenso strictly a masculine scent? Definitely not. Attention incense-heads of every gender, this Dolce & Gabbana creation is phenomenal.

Good but not great. I'm an incense freak and I am always looking for incense fragrances but notice 1) the goods ones are hard to come across and 2) they are expensive. My two favs are Rien Intense Incense by Etat Libre d'Orange and Incense Suede byFerragamo. Velvet Incenso starts off very much like Incense Suede, but I find it a little more sour and not as smooth. It's nice, just not overly elegant and expensive smelling. When Incense Suede became discontinued I quickly bought two bottles, knowing the demand will make it impossible to find in a few years. If you are to invest in an incense fragrance go with Incense Suede before its gone, it would be a better choice.
