Velvet Mughetto

Velvet Mughetto is a fragrance built around the theme of lily of the valley. In modern perfumery, lily of the valley is notoriously difficult to work with. The flower cannot realistically be distilled into an essential oil, and some of the key molecules historically used to create a “natural lily of the valley effect” have gradually been restricted for regulatory reasons. As a result, perfumers usually recreate the impression of lily of the valley indirectly, using a structure built from multiple floral and supporting materials. In Velvet Mughetto, that structure centers on the pairing of lily of the valley and magnolia. Magnolia’s watery floral character helps make the lily of the valley feel more natural and complete. The opening is composed of bergamot, blackcurrant, and pink pepper. The brightness of citrus, the tart sweetness of blackcurrant, and the transparent spice of pink pepper create a top note that feels both fresh and slightly sharp—a kind of crisp clarity that is easier to understand once experienced on skin. The heart then introduces lily of the valley and magnolia. Lily of the valley brings a clear white floral tone with a green freshness. Magnolia, however, is softer and carries a subtle watery quality, with a creamy petal-like texture. This fills the gaps within the lily of the valley accord, making the floral core feel more complete. The result is not the classic soapy lily-of-the-valley style, but a more modern and softer white floral impression. Sandalwood and cashmeran form the base. Cashmeran, a synthetic fragrance material from the woody-musky family, is particularly recognizable for its warm woody musk character. Because of this, the fragrance gradually transitions from transparent white florals into a warmer, slightly textile-like woody softness. Overall, Velvet Mughetto moves from bright citrus to gentle white florals and finally into warm woods. The atmosphere feels like a garden in the morning with dew still in the air—floral notes diffusing softly, light and slightly hazy, yet elegant. The structure is very coherent and thoughtfully built. The perfumer is Sidonie Lancesseur, one of my favorite female perfumers.

A very nice fresh, white floral, and slightly fruity scent that has a citrus opening. The citrus fades away quite quickly, which leaves a very elegant, but fresh, lily of the valley scent. To me, the first 15 minutes makes the fragrance come across as slightly feminine due to the fruity tone standing out so much. After 30 minutes, the fragrance becomes fresher and develops that musky cashmeran tone that lingers around very nicely. I am not getting any sandalwood, but instead a much greener note that is quite consistent throughout the entire duration of the fragrance, which I really enjoy. After the initial opening, the scent goes from being slightly feminine to more unisex. I could definitely see both genders rocking this fragrance during warmer weather. This is however a scent I recommend not spraying on your clothes, as it comes across more fresh and green and ommits several of the sweeter notes, even as much as not giving any notes of lily of the valley. Make sure to spray it on skin.

I didn't know who Sidonie Lancesseur was prior to purchasing this Velvet Mughetto... but I think I'm in love with her now and need to buy all her scent portfolio. I bought this perfume from the Dolce boutique in the Beverly Centre on a recent trip to LA, and OMG. I smell the sandalwood instantly, but the other notes, specifically the pink pepper and that gorgeous lily of the valley, do something so intensely wonderful in this fragrance. It simultaneously smells pretty and edgy. Depending on the vibe, atmosphere, and outfit, I could see a Joan Jett in the '80s wearing this to CBGBs clad in black leather and a glorious smokey eye, as well as Audrey Hepburn wearing it to a formal UNICEF gala with large South Sea Pearls, an elegant updo and a Givenchy dress made especially for her body. I simply adore this smell.

Love at first sniff. It is fresh in the opening and becomes warm and comforting because of the cashmeran. A unique scent. I have to grab a bottle despite its poor longevity and projection but ridiculous price. It's £181 for 50ml in Harrods and the staff told me it's always out of stock.

I am very happy that my search for the most beautiful and elegant floral perfume is over, I have finally found it. There are woody-musky notes to Cashmeran in this perfume. Overall, its scent is so fresh like guava mixed with many flowers and strong note of Cashmeran, quite unique.
