Velvet Vetiver

Wow... What a phenomenal vetiver. Hits my loves with fig and vetiver. Tried it at the D&G shop in Vegas... Must buy! EDIT: upgraded from a "Must buy" to a DID BUY! And I am loving it! It is as amazing as I remember...perhaps a bit more so as I was overwhelmed with scents when I sampled this. The beautiful vetiver is center stage here...and the fig (a note I love), is relegated to a supporting role, and they blend beautifully. The fig does add some sweetness, but it is welcome and not a bit overpowering. The galbanum blends well, and to my nose there seems to be a citrus note that again, marches behind an elegant, green, clean, and upbeat vetiver. I find sillage and longevity to be average for an EDP (which is quite good...2-3 hours of projection, and I can still smell it on my skin after 6-7 hours.). This seems to be a late spring, summer, and early fall scent...more of a warm-weather scent. But it could be worn any time...especially if you want an instant mood-booster. Happy, classy, and luxurious. If you are either a fig or a vetiver fan, check this scent out. Get a decant or sample. If you are a fan of BOTH fig and vetiver, then this scent should not be missed!

This is by far, one of the most beautiful fragrances I own & have ever smelled. Reminds me of the summer days but the cooler ones, not the hot uncomfortable ones. For me, it gives me this reminder of that smell when you hit the beach, an image of Hawaiian Tropic bottles everywhere comes to mind. I say those bottles specifically because, when I use to hit the beach, especially when I was younger, Hawaiian Tropic was “the it” lotion to use. Again, its a reminder to these things, not that the fragrance itself smells like you have lotion on. On the other side, it also reminds me of the cooler Spring days nearing the summer, that break where you go from a sweater to a long sleeve shirt. Be at someones place at their BBQ playing some sport in the backyard ( or watching it lol ) I do get this hint sneak in of Fahrenheit which is interesting. In closing, if you can get your hands on this, go for it, especially if you love those soft subtle type of fragrances. In my humble opinion, for me, this is a must have till infinity. The smell this brings forth will be timeless.

I am one lucky girl. I saw this on eBay and they titled it "Perfume". nothing else. I saw the picture and I had to take a double take . I won it for $35 . and let me tell you it is worth it . This is what I wish diptyque's philosykos would smell like. The fig is the Superstar of the fragrance. At first scent you have a huge amount of vetiver in your face but it comes down rather quickly and morphs into a delicious creamy fig . All other figs wish they could be this fig. More and more I feel like people are prone to clean/fresh or not. there is no in between for these people . You either love smelling fresh or you just don't understand it whatsoever. I'm typically on the whatsoever side. I love my spicy Gourmand fragrances . A woody vanilla bonbon. An oud rose. But. This fragrance, I have to have. it falls into that category of: I need this. I smell fantastic in it.

Unbelievable that this is so under the radar. As a fig fanatic, this is the best fig scent on the market, bar none. Phylosikos et al. smell like room spray in comparisons. This is amazing perfumery. Comparisons to VIW are very apt - Velvet Vetiver has similar creaminess and general vibe, except that it has an amazing fig at the center with aromatic vetiver surrounding it. Much more versatile, professional, and sexier than VIW. Performance is also solid. Price is an issue but it’s just a huge love for me so I will tell you to overlook that and give this fragrance a chance.

First try...Nice blending of vetiver and fig. Refreshing and unique. Second try...Quite stunning. I will get a full bottle when there’s a promotion. Third try...I need a full bottle immediately. Now I’m so in love with it. For me vetiver is more prominent, fig is detectable like 70/30. One of the best vetiver perfumes I’ve ever tried. The scent is quite linear from the beginning to the end. Extremely long lasting on me. This one is pretty much underrated. Maybe it’s due to the price.

Fig leaf and vetiver are dominating the opening. The vetiver used here is not rooty or smoky, rather it has the green approach and it combines very well with the green and creamy fig. After it settles for an hour, it becomes even better, I think this might be due to the galbanum. This is far from being a vetiver centered fragrance, it's green and creamy, bitter at first but sweetens through the heart; the sweetness is just right, because it's paired with a sour/citric note. 8/10

Absolutely Gorgeous! My nose detects coconut in addition to the Vetiver and Fig. My complaint is longevity and Sillage, or lack there of. It very quickly turns to a skin scent and lasts barely 2-3 hours on my skin. considering it's roughly $300USD for 50ml, that's completely unacceptable.

This is SO delicious on top of my cocoa butter lotion. It makes the freshness more silky smooth The perfume is great on its own though. It's a nice take on fig - Fig Infusion by Essential Parfums had me intrigued to try more fig fragrances, and this one didn't disappoint

Fresh and so long lasting ! Like freshly cut grass with a hint of sweetness such a clean fresh scent. I love it ! On my skin it lasts for a very long time and towards the end there is a hint of bitter with wood but still maintained the freshness ! Amazing scent !

If the price is too high for you, Vetiver Sensuel by Mancera is pretty much identical to this (and better in my opinion). It's juicier and has better projection, and it's around £90, compared to this one that's £255 lol

The front player here is a sweet/milky fig, supported by a subtle vetiver and a galbanum note that will appears in the drydown and slightly counter-balance the sweetness of the fig by keeping a hint of freshness. Linear with modest performance. The opening reminds me of AdP Fico di Amalfi and Byredo Bal d'Afrique, while the drydown reminds me more of AC Vetiver Fatal. D&G VV is totally unisex (slightly leaning feminine). Not groundbreaking, but perfectly tailored, clean and elegant. One criticism though: this one should have been named Velvet Fig. Should you look for a green vetiver-centered fragrance like Guerlain's or a sharp one like Etro's, look elsewhere. For what I paid for it (less than a third of the MSRP), it's a good blind buy, but I'm glad I haven't paid full retail price for that, given that the quality and creativity here is leaning on the designer side than the niche side. Would recommend to lovers of fruity-fresh fragrances, but only at discounter prices! Spring/Fall days, women 20+, men 30+

Just mentioned in my Velvet Bergamot review that this is my slightly preferred one over the two of them. Again as with the Bergamot it is indeed a velvet tone with this one, soft and understated quality absolutely perfect for work or throwing on casually when you want to smell good but not necessarily be defined by your fragrance. I would never suggest you wear a fragrance for a job interview but if you insisted on doing so, this is one of those that I do not think anyone could actively dislike. I would say this one does lay unisex and I see why some could love it for what it does but I am personally in the like camp currently. I think with its versatile style and fairly unique use of light fig in a warm yet inviting vetiver base could win me over to the love category in long term use however.

This is a fantastic clean and fresh vetiver. It does not amaze me with its complexity, but it is one of the best clean and fresh style vetiver scents on the market IMO. Price is high, but so is the quality. I have a small decant, but might spring for a bottle next spring. The problem for me is that it isn't unique enough to justify the price or the need for a whole bottle. Update. The more I use this one, the more I find that it is just a bit too "velvety" for my tastes. It almost gives off a baby powder vibe at drydown. I am now leaning back towards Creed's Vetiver as it is more linear and performs better imo. My Score: 8.0

For whatever reason I get Creed Virgin Island Water vibes (maybe due to the black fig which by the way doesn't scream at you but you can always notice it throughout the life of the scent) but made more generic and more balanced?? Yet the quality of the juice is definitely not bad. I got mixed feelings on this one... Edit: Just found out where the generic part comes from. I own a very old sporty fragrance called Lotto Man and I sprayed both fragrances on my arm and they definitely resemble each other. Velvet Vetiver is better made and also kinda resembles Creed VIW and that's about it.

This is my go-to vetiver scent! It's woody and earthy, but also has this really interesting fruity sweetness that keeps it from being too heavy. Love it for both day and night.

It's a MEH. It's not bad but nothing exciting either. Out of three listed notes, neither is outstanding like FIG in Philosykos, or VETIVER in Grey Vetiver, or galbanum in Beach Hut Man. It's a MEH! Certainly not worth the asking price but at discounters, it is a nice alternative to the standard D&G designer line. I sense some original D&G PH DNA here deep under: even though there is no tobacco note listed, I feel like there is a tabacco harmony there somewhere which in combination with the rest will remind you a bit of the original PH. Performance below average in both longevity and projection. Openning isn't great but moves to the mid and drydown quickly and there it's decent. A MEH! :) PS While sweet notes and vetiver do remind me of Bal D'Afrique (a beautiful scent by Byredo), that's where similarities end, MEH!

A rather strange opening of a very slight vetiver combined with a slightly green, bitter note, akin to pineapple, strangely enough. The dry-down revealed a coconut-like note on my skin, and within about an hour, there was nothing left...not on my short list, nor my long list, for sure!

I love vetiver fragrances - this has to be my least favorite. Recently received a sample vial and tried it (more than once, to be sure). I guess I can make out the vetiver, but on me, I smell more a strange combination of lemon, coconut and dill pickles.

This is gorgeous! Reminds me of Hermes Vetiver Tonka, but D&G's Velvet Vetiver is softened by fig rather than the overtly sweet tonka bean. I tend to find the vetiver in Vetiver Tonka a little strong for my taste and it can give me a headache, but it's well balanced here. The opening is a vetiver powerhouse but after a few minutes it calms right down and the fig comes through with a soft creaminess. I think the vetiver and fig work perfectly together. The end result is sophisticated and well-rounded. Some may feel that it lacks complexity but I (uneducated heathen that I am) see nothing wrong with a simple scent that is well executed. I highly recommend sampling it if you get the chance. I wish I could wear it, but it's too masculine for me. I think this is definitely a man's fragrance.

I actually wanted Velvet Cypress but it wasn't available, and there was a major discount on the online store I use on the 50 ml vetiver and I figured "what the hell, it's payday lets gamble with a blind buy how bad could it be" Now to be completely honest, it smells nothing like I had in mind after reading the description, but it's actually quite nice, you know how summer scents tend to be either citrus'y or soapy, this one offers a different option.. It's like a light syrupy, herbaceous scent, it reminds me of a good Moroccan tea blend before you brew it, if that make any sense. I like to mix it with a cedar & white musk perfume I have from a local unknown brand as on it's own it smells a bit too "Mother Earth" for my Middle Eastern nose
