Fuel for Men

In the swell of silence you sit, pondering a life gone by. A deep sadness wells within, a burning hope begs for another day. The sky pours across the horizon, giddy in its pinks and golds, blues and greens, purples and blacks - it calls to you as if from a distant dream. The lone fire crackles beyond your feet, its warmth reminding you where you are. The ocean's dull roar lulls your agitated nerves as the smoke swirls through the air. You thoughtfully sip your Piña Colada, reveling in its creamy sweetness. You can't help but enjoy the paths that have led you here - tomorrow is sure to bring greater things still. Somewhere between your sips and the marching clouds, you catch a delectable smoked sandalwood. The hours pass as the sea drinks the sun, the cold smoke has wandered off into the night. The warm ocean air embraces you and gently kiss your musky skin as you drift away, eager to meet tomorrow. What wonderful things await... Day 74 - On the Wings of Tomorrow Listening to: Alcest - Beings of Light Notes: I never had the privilege to smell this fume in its original wonder - it still is pretty fantastic though! The notes make it look quite a bit more complicated than it really is...I get mostly a gently smoked pineapple and juniper to open. There is a hint of what my brain tells me is a fuel note (could a name really suggest so much?) similar to that in Fahrenheit. The smoke and fuel last for a few hours while a sweet sandalwood and soft herbal note begins to dominate. The scent is slowly warmed by the ambery musk before quietly bowing out. Again, far more quiet than I expected and not nearly as complex as the notes suggest. However, it is durable for its strength and could be alluring on the right person, regardless of gender.

Oh well...I'm so often surprised by the fact I haven't reviewed certain perfumes, when I'm sure I appraised them long ago, this is one of them. I've been a proud owner of this for years now and despite not trying the original DK, I think Fuel is a magical perfume. To me it has all the beauty and subtleties of the very best sandalwoods, because afterall that is the dominant note in Fuel for men. It is joined by the warmth and depth of amber and what can only be described as powdery notes, with a floral touch evocative of the feel (but crucially not the smell) of iris or orris root and a satin, buttery, suede. This reminds me of soft pencil shavings, and crayons but with a sweeter nature, and a refinement and quality that is pretty staggering. Other softies like this which have subsequently been released have caught my heart like Atelier Cologne's Santal Carmin or Xejoff's Ivory route. 'Santal Secree' I've coined them, things that are strong but barely in the realms of existence to some noses, certainly in terms of announcing themselves. However, when you them breathe deeply and imbibe, have masses of depth. Not strictly for men, soft and feminine enough for women to love too. I'm using my bottle sparringly as it's rare stuff now.

This is a superb perfume from all angles. Great materials, inventive composition and brilliant execution. It really is a mystery why people don't write about it that much. The show begins with a magnificent and immediately captivating opening. I mainly pick up notes of lavender (divine rendition), almond and fruit on a smoky suede background all of which combine to create the imaginary accord of petrol (fuel). The fragrance creates a fresh warm, creamy aura with an ever-present oily nuttiness and has a definite masculine feeling. In the dry-down an incense note wafts throughout and the composition turns muskier and woodier. Very close to a fougere but consequently more in the dry woods category, this ultra-modern vivid fragrance is an ideal choice for every male with a sweet tooth. Its complexity really startled me, considering it is a designer scent, although its nuances are extremely discreet. All in all, a low-key, full throttle and laid back fragrance which exudes easy confidence and masculine grace. A personal favorite.

DK Fuel, such a great fragrance it is. Very versatile, but unique at the same time. It has a very weird opening. Somehow the opening notes make it smell like actual fuel. Very harsh and strong, but balanced with a sweet element. I guess it's the rendition of the pineapple, which makes it so unique. I can't even describe the progression of this scent very well since it baffles me everytime. The middle notes pretty much spell out amber for me, since it envelops the other middle notes once the opening starts to fade. For me it ends up as a very powdery, almond powdery musc. These are supported by a heavenly sandalwood. I also suspect there is a rough leather in the base, which makes it even more interesting. To me it's the more classy version of By. Longevity is outstanding. Sillage is great the first hour, but it drops to a very discrete scent after two hours. But somehow it lingers on you as a slight trail. Very impressed with this one.

It reminded me of a slightly sweeter Chanel Egoiste. However, after 10 minutes I was convinced this was in a whole level on its own. Love this bottle, not sure why there aren't more reviews! Deff. a buy!
