Pure DKNY Verbena

What began as a childhood infatuation in the early 2000s has grown into a love affair spanning decades, one that deepens with time instead of fading. And there’s something profoundly romantic about that kind of constancy.

It smells like freshly cut grass and cucumbers to me. I tend to dismiss natural scents like this one for being too unexciting and lacking personality and then I also like to remind myself that demonstrating character is totally not the point with such fragrances. There are perfumes you wear not only for your own pleasure but also as an extention of your personality, as a way to communicate certain qualities of your temper with the people around you. And there are these other quiet, comforting scents you gravitate towards whenever you feel the need to absorb some of the harmony in the nature surrounding you, to let yourself melt with it rather than use it to accentuate your persona. This is exactly what Pure Verbena does to me; it simply enchants me... and I drift away. Because of this effect I perceive it as something quite intimate that I don't feel like sharing with others - meaning taking it to the office or wherever in public. This in combination with the Baraka movie are the perfect company for a relaxing, kinda sleepy, slightly breezy spring afternoon; a divine, captivating and mind healing experience.

Oh heck I like this! Opens with pure gin & cucumber tonic, very botanical and zesty fresh. Once the drydown starts, you get that fuzzy warmth of verbena and more white florals with a really aquatic undertone (reminds me of a body spray I had in my teens, in a really good way!). It's a little powdery, like fresh linen. It smells like watering my garden at the end of a very hot day when you get that petrichor smell on hot paving. I have a herb garden and the scent of it when water hits is a very happy smell for me. This has something of that in it. It smells more fresh and green on fabric and hair, and warmer and more floral on skin. I think I prefer the former, which will work well in summer when I sweat off any perfume within minutes so tend to keep it to clothes! Haven't worn it for long today, and unless it turns to turd after a couple of hours wear, it's a keeper. It's elegant and refined, so shouldn't suit me, but I love it.

Finally! I've been looking all over for a soft, feminine, clean verbena scent for spring and summer, and this is it! It's amazing how many harsh,sharp lemon/verbena fragrances are out there on the market to wade through before you get to a winner like this. Half of them smell like floor cleaner, and most of the rest are boring one-note wonders. This is really beautiful; it's a soft, fresh verbena scent that unfolds through the day. Absolutely lovely. And it lasted, for me, over 8 hours; I could still get wafts of the delicate feminine fragrance as I got ready for bed. Thank God Donna Karan knows how to do a great fragrance; she was right on the money with this one. Who would think it was so difficult to find a great lemon verbena fragrance that doesn't shriek at you? I love it. Well done!

I love this for summer. Very fresh, cool, and mild. The basil is beautiful. After dry down it has a cucumber feel on my skin- watery. I also feel it’s aquatic, reminiscent of the late 90s, early 00s, but not bracingly so, there’s a little teeeeeny bit of sweetness, maybe from the florals, to keep it neutral, but i would never call it “sweet”. Does it smell a little dated? yeah. but i don’t care, it still smells good, even in the hottest weather, and a good alternative for a warm weather scent if you’re anti-citrus or find they turn sour on your chemistry. this never sours on me, always stays cool.

I first smelled this at Nordstroms, around the end of July. I sniffed it, loved it, bought it. This is how I wish that I smelled when I was in my late 20's (a LONG time ago). It's beautiful, natural, effortless skin scent. The citrus is not so much sweet as it is a healthy musky citrus. Like you rubbed lime rind on your sun-warmed skin. I took this on a beach vacation on the coast of Maine, and it was in perfect harmony with the sun and the ocean and the pines and the fragrant firs. Clearly, this scent brings up happy, contented images for me, I hope it does for you, too.

I really enjoy wearing this, to me it's very green and I've been turned off by several green fragrances that I thought I would like. Fortunately I'm getting along well with this one. I'm especially sold on the seaweed, verbena and basil, it's great to see them together here and they seem to keep the florals (especially the peony) from being too loud or sweet. It lasts a good 6 hours on my skin and up to 24 in my hair. I have no idea of the sillage, but I'd love to walk behind a person wearing this scent, it's one of the prettiest greener fragrances I've smelled.

More truth in advertising than most verbena scents and my favorite along with anything verveine by L'Occitane. The opening here is verbena perfection, but of course it is short-lived. The remaining phases are lovely and I do appreciate that this is one verbena fragrance that is is not anchored with woods, which I feel too often heavily weigh down what should be light and joyful scents, if the intent is truly to feature verbena. Rather, this one is buoyed by basil, which is a better complement. Light, fresh, and clean.

I love this. Citrus first, very green and fresh, then the florals appear making it a bit sweeter - and also more feminine than my usual citrus aromatics. The floral notes become stronger as it begins to drydown, but it doesn't lose its citrusy 'vibe'. The mossy base with vetiver gives it excellent longevity, this type of fragrance usually does not last long on me. I'm still able to smell it 12 hours later.I will definitely be buying more of this.

It ́s a nice soft summer scent. I can only imagine, just how well it ́s gonna work on a hot summerday. On me, the dry down is very clean smell of the green plants, that is in this parfume. I don ́t get any of the floral notes at all. Normally I ́m really into floral scents, so imagine my surprise, when all I could smell was the green, and it turned out I liked it a lot. I ́m a happy camper.

I've only had a sample of this and not the full-size but it's a clean, white citrus fragrance. Perfect for the spring and summer coming straight out of the shower. It has a stronger scent for this type of fragrance. The wear and silage was better than I was expecting. It wasn't a remarkable scent so I won't be buying a full-size, but I did enjoy the mini bottle I received as a gift.

For some reason or another I never really paid much attention to Verbena until I gave it another whiff yesterday at Nordstrom. I absolutely love it!!! I enjoy Verbena far more than I do the original Pure. I cannot wait to get me a bottle of this fresh little fragrance! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! : )

I actually really like this perfume; it lasts a lot longer compared to DKNY Fresh Blossom (which I LOVE!); this is probably going to be my go-to perfume now

I absolutely love this! It’s aquatic rose with subtle wood. Wish the longevity was better. I’ll be wearing this often!

The first Pure DKNY fragrance (based on jasmine and vanilla) didn’t move me, but I really enjoy Pure Verbena. The first spray is very citrusy with the lemon verbena at full strength. It’s not long before the basil kicks in with its characteristic sweet-herbal aroma, and the citrus becomes much more subdued. The florals are smooth and nicely balanced. Dewy honeysuckle is the most prominent, followed by the peppery peony and soft jasmine. I also smell the vetiver which helps to anchor the lighter notes, and gives the scent a bit of earthy, woody pungency. For me it is also aquatic, a feeling I get from the seaweed mixed with the dewy florals. The salty seaweed note is quite noticeable in this scent, and it’s one of the things that makes this perfume unique. For me it is reminiscent of the scent of kelp that grows in the ocean around here. There’s nothing sweet here – this could easily be a unisex fragrance. It’s cool, fresh, and invigorating. I find it quite comforting as well. Kind of like a fragrant spring garden near the seaside.

I accidentally purchased this - I thought I was buying the original vanilla pure but the name (which is only on the back) was obscured by a clearance sticker! Having said that, I am glad to have it. Spring is just starting here and we've had some lovely warm days already, and this is what I have reached for. It is light and fresh, the verbena gives a light lemony fragrance, and I find the basil adds a herbal touch and warmth. The best thing of all is that it does not upset my hayfever, which is very touchy this time of year. Sillage is soft, and longevity is about 4 hours, but it suits my purposes and I can see myself wearing this a lot through the summer heat.

DKNY Pure a drop of Verbena starts with an invigorating vibrant citrus smell, as well as a refreshing, slightly bitter aromatic, herbal accord. It is very refreshing on a scorching summer day. It then becomes a balanced, soft floral with clean white musk with hints of aquatic cucumber-like notes, (probably calone). This middle & base stage is lovely and comforting. However, the whole scent is short-lived, but I came to peace that summery and citrusy fragrances have to reapplied every one to two hours because that’s the nature of their composition. They rely heavily on top notes.

The opening is lovely, fresh and green. It reminds me of flower stems. Sadly the opening doesn't last very long. The drydown smells more musky yet still green, my guess is that I'm mainly getting notes from the seaweed, vetiver and jasmine. Quite a nice and calming aromatic fragrance. Sillage is very low, longevity is decent though as a skin scent. Pleasant but the sillage is too weak and the scent is not interesting enough to me to buy a full bottle.

This is such a pretty, fresh, clean, simple yet sophisticated scent. It's perfect for those who love light scents, because you really have to look for it in order to smell it and it fades away super fast. Not worth the $$ in my opinion, because it's so stealthy, but I will say I love having it in my arsenal for day time. I just have to take it with me for re-application.

DKNY Pure Verbena is a clean and fresh green scent. Out of all herbs verbena is the most pronounced one...plus I get refreshing lemon note. I prefer to wear it in summer (during cooler months it can be a bit sharp). Today was hot and humid and it lasted well over 6 hours on me. Wearing perfumes can be tricky during hot weather but this one opened up beautifully.

Based on the notes, I would’ve never picked this up. I smelled and sprayed it in store and went back to buy it. I pick out the lemon verbena, basil, honeysuckle, and seaweed on my skin. It’s very subtle, but kind of sexy. A real skin scent. Kind of cozy. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to wear at the office; can’t imagine it offending anyone.

This came in a collection of 5 larger deluxe samples from Sephora and it is my favorite of the five. It is a fresh and pleasant, natural-smelling verbena-citrus scent with a safe (for work and other people) and elegant cologne base (reminds me a bit of 4711, but with added more modern action, like a hint of cantaloupe and a whiff of marjoram?)

Smells lemony and green. There is no actual citrus in here according to the notes, but the verbena does play a trick on your nose. It smells difffernt than the original Pure, but it does have a similar feel about it. It's cooler and not as sharp as the original but both have a unisex quality to them.

I was given a bottle of this by a friend who thought she had been given Pure (original vanilla) for Xmas but had been given this instead and hates citrus! I love it! The verbena is fresh and vibrant but dries down to a soft light floral with a warm heart. Gorgeous!

I am really enjoying this scent for spring and summer. Not only smells clean and refreshing but a really interesting clean and fresh scent. An easy grab for me. Ps: sometimes I use it to go to sleep and to my surprise I can still smell the day after upon waking up.

I received a sample of this with a Sephora order. Opens with a big, beautiful burst of citrus and herbs. Very clean and fresh. Totally refreshing and delicious. Then...absolutley nothing. Just totally disapears on me. Not worth getting the FB.

Very summery, fresh, green and awake. Not too overpowering on the citrus as well I have very . I would definitely say this is a day fragrance. Not my usual type of fragrance either but a refreshing change.

This is a lovely light scent, fresh and cool smelling to me. It fades quickly on skin but I've had better success on fabric. If it lasted longer it would be my ideal scent, not overly feminine or floral

This does not last at all. It leaves a musky smell after on me. I do love the opening smell, very clean and citrusy. It is true that it smells a little sharpe and then it fades and smells so nice.

Can anybody tell me which color is the juice in the bottle? I presume, it should be clear, since the name is "pure"? Mine is kinda green.... Is it stale?

So, Can I honor the name and just say that I feel "pure" whenever I wear this? Beautiful fragrance.

Smells like lemon candy on my skin

I love how the Pure DKNY line has this natural feel to it. Verbena edition truly smells like verbena leaves, green and citrusy. The basil creates depth while I don’t really get any florals. Clean scent, reminiscent of green leaves unfolding in early spring. Unisex.

I am somewhat neutral to this perfume. I LOVE the Rose in the DKNY Pure collection but the Verbena seem to give me a little headache. I think it's due to the components that makes it "Aromatic". If I get past the headaches I can see how this could be a very nice summer scent. It's very clean, the verbena is very dominant and the basil adds to the citrus scent. Funny, because there are no citrus fruits in the Verbena but it's the strongest citrus perfume I have! I think of lime every time I spray this but there is no lime in here. Silage is okay, maybe about arms length. Longevity is maybe 4 hours. If you wait, the seaweed do come through just a little. But, I usually can't wait that long because of the headache. It's really a shame. I think I'd like to wear this on hot summer days, at a picnic, or spending the day by a lake or river. *Sigh*

Where the original DKNY PURE boasted the inclusion of "socially conscious" Ugandan vanilla (though each bottle contained about a microdrop, according to my nose), PURE DKNY A DROP OF VERBENA (as my manufacturer's card reads) basically changes the entire composition. The white jasmine core is still intact, but the vanilla has been switched out for a huge dose of Togolese lemon verbena, along with a fairly big bunch of basil (not sure where that's supposed to be from). The floral elements in this new flanker are so light as to be pretty much overwhelmed by the strong verbena and basil. So the flanker, although vaguely based on PURE, has actually become a unisex scent, unlike its namesake, which was a clear jasmine (feminine) perfume. Unfortunately, this composition takes something of an "industrial" turn on the way to the drydown, which I find much less pleasant than the invigorating citrus-aromatic opening. In the mid-stages, PURE VERBENA smacks vaguely of something from the house of Clean or perhaps the new Jennifer Aniston perfume. The difference is that PURE VERBENA does not bottom out as a soap scent--it simply fades away.

Some reviewers have discribed this scent as being unisex. While this probably won't appeal to the "ultra feminine" type, IMO, it is just barely on the fringe of being unisex and definately falls more to the feminine side.( I honestly don't feel a guy could pull off this VERY pretty scent, but that's just me. ) Pure DKNY Verbena, opens with an exhilaratiing burst of grassy green and herbal basil and not just a drop of, but more like a BUCKET LOAD of lemon verbena.( Mmm, love that verbena.) As the dry down progresses, you begin to detect that softer, aquatic seaweed note, along with, delicate, aquatic undercurrents of the floral notes honeysuckle, peony and jasmine. But what you really end up with here, is an AMAZING aquatic lemon verbena scent. Pure DKNY Verbena is Fresh with a capital F and casual yet sophisticated, which means that it is as perfect for a carefree day at the beach as it is at the office, when working in close quarters with others. How could you possibly go wrong with such a fresh, clean, just out of the shower scent!

Found this at Burlington for $25 bucks for the 100ml. I like it, very calming! So far a great bedtime fragrance or one you can wear when you want something light and natural smelling. Update: it's about 95 F degrees today where I live and all my scents were smelling sharp. I got this when it was still pretty chilly out in the winter so I was waiting for it to get hot so I could test this in warm weather. I'm home relaxing of course because of the quarantine. This is so calming and natural smelling. I think the basil note helps this stay fresh and refreshing. Perfect for summer so far from what I'm seeing! Update May 2021: This did not last on me in the summer so this for me is a soapy fresh scent in spring temperatures and I actually enjoy it on cooler days when just lounging around or for quick errands like the grocery store, etc. On those type days when not too hot it lasts fairly well and is very soothing and enjoyable.

I came across it last week at a perfume shop and loved the smell from the bottle. I was wearing a different fragrance at that time so I sprayed it on the testing strip only. Then, unconciously I put the strip in my bag pocket... As a result my bag smelled absolutely lovely for days! Today I remembered not to use any fragrance before heading for shops and with great expectations rushed to the store to test it on skin. And.. what a letdown. I could smell the top notes which I love all right, then floral notes appeared, completely flat and uninteresting though, and... the smell was gone. It simply disapeared from my skin after an hour. I've experienced it with all the Delicious variations so it must be something about the chemical compositions, carriers etc. that DKNY use. What do you gyus think?

Its very light. A bit plane for my taste but definitely office safe. This scent is beautiful, but VERY expensive when compared to how long it lasts. It is less effective than drug store body spray. The packaging indicates "fragrance" but does not state whether it is perfume, toilette, or cologne concentration. Since it doesn't indicate, I guess cologne and it is WAY too much money to pay for cologne that last at most 1 hour. Sorry.

It's a very nice, clean and fresh scent - as the name says, pure. Even though I prefer the original Pure, this one isn't bad at all either. And the composition is the only good thing about it. It has absolutely no staying power, the sillage is extremely soft. I spray myself before leaving the house, and by the time I get to work (less than half an hour) it's gone.

Just recieved a sample of this fragrance and it was love at first sniff!!.It is such a fresh scent and what i want to smell like on a day to day basis.To me it smells like a really elegant beautiful women who just stepped out of having a shower..i know weird but honest : ). Love it and cant wait to purchase it!!

This is slightly better than the other two of the pure collection in my opinion as I like fresher scents. The drydown strangly enough on me smells like Vera Wang Princess even though they are nothing alike in composition!!! The longevity is quite poor and I wouldnt buy it at full price at least.

One of the first times I wore this perfume I had a girl sitting by be shout, "It smells like an old man!" I guess the owner of this perfume just has to be careful to use a small amount so that the smell isn't too strong. My mother also commented on the strength of this perfume's smell.

LIKE STEPPING INTO RAIN Crisp, green and simple, Pure DKNY Verbena is an aquatic scent that enhances my casual, outdoorsy style. Uncluttered, it leaves a refreshing trail as it clings to the skin like a sheer cotton sheath after a dip in a cool mountain lake.

To Sweelty: Mine is practically clear, it has a very slight green tinge when held up to the light, hardly noticable not sure if this is the actual juice though or the bottle. If yours is definitly green or on the darker side it doesn't sound right to me.

I owned this perfume from 2012 after having tested it when it first came out. It is a fresh summery perfume that lasts longer than eau de toilette, a more usual choice to wear in hot summer. It lasts a couple of hours upon application and very wearable.

The verbena really disappears within seconds, quite a shame. The basil is the most intense note, the flowers just slowly come in. After an hour, it somewhat smells like spring. Just fresh air with the aroma of arboreal flowers and pollen.

A very very light earthy , herbal kind of smell that reminded me of Aveda hair products that I used back in the day. Not what I was looking for at all. Too nondescript for me however I can see the right person loving this.
