Narziß (Narziss)

Introducing one of the most underrated fragrances on this site. It’s extremely versatile, fun and has great performance...I highly recommended trying a sample from Luckyscent.

Bright Absinthe, wormwood. Sweet green herbaceous undercurrent that turns slightly dark from middle to base. Very light but still gorgeous. I disagree with the first review. It’s like a sweeter green less powerful mainstream version of L’Artisan Parfumeur Fou D’Absinthe. An alternative for when you get bored of your Cool Water or Eternity and your taste has matured, you want to be a bit different but you haven’t got the money or the olfactory experience yet to grab a bottle from Parfum De Marley, Creed, Xerjoff or Heeley etc. For the right price I will but another bottle to sit amongst these for a summer day or night where I want to feel refreshed, cool and not broadcast to everyone - I find it has a nice scent bubble for a wormwood scent and as an EDT. I believe created by Gianni Versace’s assistant?

In 2005 when I first tried the fragrance, I wrote this as a comment to a review of it on NST: "I yet have to come across a sandalwood fragrance that can beat Narziß, at least when it comes to a true replica of the smell. I have a small sample I treasure highly, but I really do need the real thing. How that is supposed to happen sometime soon (looking at my have to buy-list) just seems like something impossible." Today I found a bottle of it in a drawer. I kind of forgot about it honestly, and it has been there for years and honestly can't remember how or where I purchased it. Hardly worn at all, as I did not feel the same way when I maybe 10 years later acquired a full bottle. It is more powdery, herbal aromatic and dry then it is a sandalwood scent. The sweetness others has mentioned, I don't perceive at all (thankfully). Its texture is powdery and fine-grained, and got to say it is fairly difficult to pick out any single ingredients. Slightly actuation, without going into any crazy saltwater or ozonic mega territory. Even though not listed as a note anywhere, I find this one still mainly about sandalwood. Better than I recalled from when I purchased the full bottle, now some 10 years later trying it again.

Sweet herbs. Narziss it's just like an old-school herbal-centered masculine devoided of the typical clean/dirty juxtaposition of many historical fragrances in the same vein. What's left is an overly sweet (and polished) green woody composition that while smelling pretty decent it's still of little interest. Rating: 6/10
