Arome 3

Understated and noble, Arome 3 is a true palate cleanser in a world filled with muscle, pomp, and loudness when it comes to fragrance and frankly, life in general. It seeks not to impress but to reflect on its gentility. Perhaps in today's world where somehow chaos and anarchy is embraced and decorum is the bondage of hegemony, Arome 3 may seem a bit too precious. This would be absolute nonsense, as this is a fragrance that has a story to tell, and not all stories need cliffhangers and dramatic plot changes. The lavender and citruses are delicate, yet effulgent and the core is somewhat creamy, underpinned with a muted spice and a bit of yellow ylang. A musky, woody, classically fougere coda lends a lingering skin scent. Arome 3 may be for those who understand what this style really means and can be in the moment with it without worrying where it will go, whether it will leave, and if someone will notice. All that worrying takes the fun out of perfume, doesn't it?

Like old money, Arome 3 doesn't try to impress. Yet it's instantly recognized by discerning noses. This is to be expected. After all, Parfums D'Orsay has an aristocratic house style that exists both as a narrative and as a palpable aura. More than merely sophisticated, D'Orsay Arome 3 is truly noble; a refinement that suggests an optimistic, romantic view of the world. It's not exotic. Not terribly complex. Certainly not sexy. No, indeed. Arome 3 doesn't try very hard at all. Instead, here is a fragrance so understated, so refined, it transcends time and place. The creamy lavender scent defies categories as broad as season, formality—or, for that matter, its suitability to age and gender. And needless to say, it looks down its nose at trends that inevitably come and go.

A very noble scent much close to Yardley imperial vetyver & Jicky by Guerlain 👍 a true masterpiece from the past 🏆 timeless classic made not for the mainstream!

Truly, a fragrance that has an air of romance and delicacy.... Arôme 3 opens with a sharp combo of a Provençal rich lavender and a citrus chorale, that quickly moves onto the center-stage with a delicate corsage of lavender, jasmine, sage on each lapel, and an ebony handle of light coriander, clove and nutmeg that points exquisitely towards a mossy direction of amber, orris, vanilla, and a cedar airing in the distance. Collectively, this direction unveils a wondrous dressing in its dry-down, one that is twist-worthy, one that has longevity and is wink-worthy in its intimacy. Arôme 3 is an endearingly elegant lavender scent that is splendid and creamy in its blend, which at first sniff seems formally traditional and then later takes a soapy, waxy turn of a ghostly iris dance that winds up smooth, clean and light. D’Orsay’s modus operandi of sophistication, sensuality and androgyny plays very much in Arôme 3. The infamous advert from the day featuring a caricature of a woman wearing her inner and outer Brummel is a delightful dare in retrospect. Eventually, D’Orsay moved this outfit to the barbershop crowd, where lavender leaning fougères, with their usually tempting base of vanilla, amber and precious woods, remain popular... Simply, this dandy wear from 1943 is surely distinct enough to be noteworthy... A fine fragrance indeed!

This was a real mess of notes, straddling many genres, the last time I tried it, so here I go again. The beginning comes to me as a camphoraceous, heady, herbal grass. This falls unfortunately into the bitter herbal citrus category that doesn't appeal to me, but it's even worse because the eucalyptus (?) gives it a corrosive, almost urinous feel even though it doesn't literally smell like piss. I'm sure a lot of this is also due to lavender, again not my favorite note, but you lavender lovers might want to look into this stuff. After a while, it gets a lot weaker and a lot less harsh, maybe more of a sharp, green woods, very gently spiced. It's actually not bad by this stage; the transformation was both sudden and substantial. The spices have come more to the forefront, creating a slightly balsamic spicy wood, though it's a bit anisy for my tastes. It would pass for a decent "barbershop" style fragrance, but I don't see any point in suffering through an agonizing first few minutes when I can buy barbershop fragrances that don't force me to do that. And it's not even very strong by this stage either. Kind of an expensive way to waste those first few minutes.

D'Orsay AROME 3 opens very aromatically, with lavender and lots of citrus. From there, the composition becomes more herbaceous and lightly floral before drying down as a classic vetiver/woody scent with good staying power and medium sillage. AROME 3 is perfect for women and men during summertime: refreshing and subtle, made of Creed-quality ingredients and similar in overall personality to a few different Creeds that I've tried. Although this creation is not particularly original, it is very nice, and I'll be interested to see how it compares in price to other fragrances of this type...

The opening is heavenly good!! Instant love but after an hour.. becomes a faint skin scent. It opens with soft lavender, neroli, jasmin, bergamot as as time passes it fades out quite quickly.

Used to love this stuff until I became more informed about scents, fragrances, those that I REALLY love and those that love me! I first smelled Arome 3 on a woman after moving to New York City in 1995. She was exiting a restaurant as I was entering and I couldn't believe how great she smelled! I asked her, "What is the fragrance you are wearing?" She replied, "Arome 3 by D'Orsay...you can buy it at Aedes des Venustas in the Village." Well, off I went, bought up the stuff and wore it daily for a couple of years...I never got any compliments though :0( I recently received several samples of the fragrance after a purchase. Yes, I remember it well but now all I can smell is harsh opening notes of lemon & citrus, mid-notes of lavender, lavender and more lavender and base/dry down notes of well...spicy, harsh lavender & lemon. This fragrance is a cloying lavender potion with some grassy, moss notes (vetiver perhaps?). SCREAMS soapy lavender...that's about it. Reminds me of the diffuser oil I have in my bathroom. Great silage (obviously) and great longevity. A bit too soapy for me now. All I can think of is "Glade" whenever I smell it. How times change. It's an okay fragrance but I'm a bit embarrassed to think I wore this nearly every day of my life for a few years. I want to wear a fragrance, I do not want a fragrance to wear me. Arome 3 is just a bit too over-the-top for me these days. Will not be wearing it again...may it R.I.P.

The notes here look so so so so so good so i bought a tiny sample bottle of ebay and it wasnt at all what i expected. Very dry and soapy. Not just soapy as in a nice lavender soap but as in literal white bar soap smell. Turns sour and dusty after a while. I guess I could see how this could be considered refined but for a much older man. And i don't generally like to place an age or gender on fragrance. Some have compared this to Jicky, a scent I adore, and I can kind of see it but only the screechy parts of Jicky without the sweet base balancing it out. I love lavender and other scents associated with "barbershop" smells but I never want exactly a barbershop smell so it's hard for me haha.

As usual with the D'Orsay scents I've tried, the drydown is soft, subtle, and nicely blended, but rich as well. Here we have some "soapy" lavender that is not too strong. The neroli aspect is also clear but again, not too obvious. I don't get much of the spices or wood, but it's certainly powdery, so that's likely iris and the mild (very mild) amber. This is nicely done and natural smelling but I'm just not a big fan of the composition. If you think this sort of idea is for you, the only issue you might have is the strength. However, you can always spray more and that may be fine (I only sprayed once to the chest). I can't compare it to other niche lavender-oriented scents because I don't really like this idea, and so have little experience with them. UPDATE: After 2 to 3 hours, the soapy quality dissipates to a large degree and a very pleasant but (to me) unremarkable skin scent is what remains.

Arome 3 is an extremely oldschool fragrance. It ́s almost pure lavender with a drop spice and sweetness. Smells extremly oldschool and dated. I can ́t imagine this on young people. It ́s something for the generation 60+ More masculine than feminine. But at the age of 60 wearable by both gender. I prefer the elegant version Arome 3 Tradition.
