Etiquette Bleue

Etiquette Bleue opens with a delicious preserved lemon quality, sweet, salty, and umami, perhaps due to it being anchored by myrrh and opoponax. It is accompanied by a candied orange peel and an evergreen-woody, pungent rosemary. Imagine if L'Heure Bleue experienced a bright, sunny, cool autumn day following its previous brooding night. It's a fresh frizzante citrus without any acidity or sharp tang, underpinned with sandalwood and amber. A mellow and hopeful candy shell with a pensive interior, Etiquette Bleue is a mood that may elude even the most open-minded of fragrance enthusiasts. Some may find it isn't robust enough, or that it's just far too old-fashioned, or maybe even that it isn't grounded anywhere that's accessible. I find its airy, glancing-away nature to be quite fulfilling, like a comfortable armchair or a reliable blanket to sooth weariness. It's unfortunate that these D'Orsay re-launches from some time back were not given nearly enough fanfare as they deserved.

Statement : I hate citruses fragrances in general. Find them so generic, so boring. Statement 2 : SO WOW ! Oo Well, ok, this is citrus at first, just as expected but... Few minutes later, here's the true gem. Rosemary blast, sharp, almost medicinal... But strangely sweet, because of the orange blossom, which add a delicate "candy" side to these. Then, a woody/vanilla stays in background. All these sides are citrusy, for sure, but this is not the sharp one you smell often, here, agrums are here just for support all the other notes, not to be in front and agressive (except the 10 first seconds, at least). Conclusion ? A very fresh / citrusy perfume but not at all acid and sharp, thanks to the vanilla/orange blossom side, which make it sweet, like a cute acid candy. The fresh side stays when the wood comes out, just to make it not so dark as you could expect from a woody perfume. Really strange, fresh, sweet and woody. Like a perfect balance. Love !

Etiquette Bleue was my signature fragrance for many years and I still love it. It opens with a bright citrus that, though it fades quickly, balances out the sweetness of the gorgeous neroli which is the dominant note in this fragrance. After a few minutes only hints of the citrus remain, but by that point myrrh has added depth to the neroli, which eventually blends with amber and vanilla in an exceptional dry down. This is a much more complex and sophisticated scent than many give it credit for, possibly because it is so unlike much else that is out there. This one is worth the effort to get to know.

The opening is very fresh and classy, similar to a classic high end cologne and it made me think initially that this would be great in hot days. Within several minutes Etiquette Bleue becomes warm and very powdery and I find it actually better for autumn, still very classy. I don't get any woods or spices here, just soft vanilla and powder. It does have an old times vibe and it reminds me of a watered down version of L'heure bleue. However this is not negative for me at all as it makes it really wearable and after I had sprayed it last evening and I find myself craving for it this morning.

This is a very versatile scent and can easily be worn by both men and women. It is not a fresh spicy kind of scent that can only be used during the summer and it is not gourmand or warm enough to be worn only in winter so you could use it any time, summer, winter, day or night. Furthermore, I do get a classic smell vibe from this and I must add that it smells quite unique and it is not like many mainstream scents that people nowadays prefer, especially the younger crew. But I love it. Scent: 8.5/10 Longevity: 7/10 Projection: 6.5/10

This is lovely to wear. Like a very refined version of 4711. Airy is right. Airy, clean, perfect for any time but especially summer. Thanks to Vickalena for introducing me to this.

I want to thank sweet Fragrantica member BirdJazzSinger for swapping with me! :) In this swap I got Etiquette Bleue and I love it! It is very springy- fresh, lady like, aristocratic fragrance! Very high quality, long lasting, just perfect for spring.

I recently purchased a sample of this, and it does not work for me. The only citrus I get comes in the first few seconds, then it gives way to an overly sweet amber/vanilla with a very faint sour note underneath. My favorite D'Orsay remains the exquisite Tilleul.

I'll have to move swiftly to sketch a review of D'Orsay ETIQUETTE BLEUE before my skimpy .5ml sample evaporates! (Note to perfumers: you are not helping your cause by being stingy when it comes to letting potential buyers test out your wares!!!!) Okay, so this is a citrus, yes. But the oakmoss really muddies the waters a bit, making ETIQUETTE BLEUE not just another limpid citrus summer refreshment scent. I'm not sure, however, whether I would want to don this composition in winter, since it's not really thick and substantial like the classic winter chypres, which work wonders under thick sweaters, wafting up intermittently to fill the wearer with warmth. ETIQUETTE BLEUE may be a case of neither, nor. Too bad I don't have enough of a sample to test this one again in the fall. Désolée!

This reminds me most of a bottle of Habit Rouge EdC I swapped off, but I like this better, as it seems to be more balanced and the opening isn't as harsh. The base also makes more sense to me. Anyway, this is quite dry and herbal, with citrus and a mild mossy base. I'm also guessing there is something like benzoin in here to sweeten it and smooth it out ever so slightly. This is not for those who don't like "old fashioned" fragrances, that's for sure. I can also imagine some saying it smells like an "aging dandy," or even Miss Havisham! This is not "dark," but there is a kind of starkness or bleakness to it. I like the naturalness and bluntness of these kinds of fragrances, but only once in a while.

Etiquette Bleue - feels almost airy - like a breath of fresh air. This is a very simple composition but a good proportion. Bright, yet sweet hesperidics on top(lemon and orange, with strong support from neroli and petitgrain), supported by light white flowers(orange blossom) and precious woods, plus a touch of moss in the drydown to provide an earthy countermelody. In fact, the balsamic note is a strong element of the total fragrance and is really the soul of Etiquette Bleue. It`s totally awesome every second it does last!

I'm still learning the different smells and so I don't recognise everything. But I recognise when I like a scent very much. I definitely felt the rosemary top note and the bergamot. Now, an hour later I can feel the woody scents (I concentrated very hard and recognised rosewood) and of course - an old favourite of mine, the sandalwood. Sadly it is already being overpowered by 5 minutes of playing with my dog, but I can already tell that Etiquette Bleue will be a long time favourite of mine.

After reading what everyone here had to say I absolutely had to try this so bought a full bottle, blind... I try not to do this very often, but I'm SO very glad I did. This is a gorgeous perfume - nearly perfect in execution. Unfortunately, it doesn't last nearly long enough on my skin, but with this fragrance I don't mind spritzing myself over and over again...

I'm very fascinated by the classic unisex Eau de Colognes style scents but Etiquette Bleue, although beautiful, is slightly too masquline for me. My teenage son, however, was very pleased to receive an almost full bottle. And it suits him perfectly.
