Flower Lust

[08.19] Blind bought mainly because I wanted to try the brand out and the notes sounded like something I would really go for. To which unsurprisingly, I really loved the scent. It's a sweet, warm-spicy, and cozy combination with subtle florals to make it unique. Something that really let me down however is this fragrance's performance. Though I am not sure if it is just me going nose-blind but, I stop smelling it on myself in less than four hours. I really don't think it stays and radiates as much as people say it does, but maybe a better environment and extensive wear-testings are required. While the packaging is nice, the bottle leaves more to be desired. I get that the whole "Extraits" line of d'Orsay is going for quintessential-French luxury minimalism, but I prefer how Diptyque does it – it is more artsy. The house's offerings as a whole being not as expensive as others though is a plus and it still manages to pull attention as a skin scent. Still undecided if I want to continue exploring this brand for now.

Excellent scent. I put it in the category of perfumes that is brilliantly-executed "designer style". In other words niche price point, niche quality blend, but with designer-style sensibilities. Not challenging or artistic or complex, but just a great smell, well blended. Stylistically it reminds me of the likes of Satin Body Oud, Body Kouros, L'Nuit De L'Homme and The Body Shop's Activist. Sweet, smooth, with a subtle underlying mentholated edge. Opens a bit screechy and plasticky, but in a strangely pleasant way - a blast of bubblegummy orange blossom, fragrant ylang ylang and a dominant tonka. Benzoin and pink pepper soften the edges a bit, then the whole thing starts calming down into a beautiful, balanced mix that is very single-minded. It leans feminine up top, but settles into something perfectly unisex. It really grabs your nose by the balls (yes noses have balls) and doesn't let go. The sort of scent you really enjoy sneaking a sniff of on yourself throughout the day.

I don't tend to be obsessed with florals but this is divine! It's floral and spicy yet suitable for someone in their 20s! All ages up from there I feel could pull this aswell UPDATE: A friend told me it smells like a mix of Black Opium (not sure if they meant their Le Parfum) and GHOST's Deep Night; a mature smell but an 18-year-old like myself can also just about pull this off. A very upper-class smell so don't go to the gym wearing this as it would not fit the setting AT ALL. I'd say it's a smell you could wear any other time than that, however

I have all the D'Orsay extraits, brought into the fold by Tonka Hysteria. I love Flower Lust. It's so interesting how people detect different notes; I focus more on how it makes me feel - elevated, happy, energized, pulled together in an extroverted way. The key is to recognize that LUST is in the name. It is a floral dose of excess, done in a way that doesn't trigger my sensitivity the way other intense florals do. Definitely an uplifting "Spring is coming" fragrance for Winter, too dense for me to wear in warm weather.

This fragrance is so unique and complex, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled anything quite like it. Right away, I get sweet, golden florals mixed with something slightly medicinal, probably from the pepper, which threw me off at first. As it dries down, the florals become smooth and balmy, and the pepper starts to mellow. Then the earthy vetiver and warm benzoin come through, making it feel like a forest floor covered in flowers and lush greenery. The more I wear this, the more addicted I get. It’s just a stunning scent.

This is an instant love for me. Deep, warm, sweet, spicy, confident, seductive, with hints of white floral notes in the background which I've always loved... Extremely well-blended, and I see myself wearing this all year round. The red pepper note is a constant and uplifting presence. I've never smelled anything like this before and this could be my new signature scent. Dominique Ropion delivered again. It also lasts 10+ hours on my skin. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Got this yesterday and find it hard to describe. So addictive and unique; it's like nothing I've smelled before. It was very potent and lasted for hours. The smell on the clothing I wore yesterday persists strongly... divine! This is like sunlight and romance to me; I have no words. Another Dominique Ropion masterpiece.

spicy juicy resinous intense ylang-ylang, yum this should be way to floral and way too sweet and way too girly for me, but it's great. So in-you-face-sweet-feminine but still such high quality gosh I am starting to feel that Dominique Ropion is my one of my absolute fav perfumers And D'Orsay one of fav houses

At the first, this perfume immediately reminded me of Tocca “Colette”, even though the notes are different, on the skin it smelled similar which is beautiful complex scent.

I have 18 ml decanted of this. And I need a full bottle ASAP. This is the sexiest fragrance ever. It’s FKN stunning & perfection. Any Fragrance Daddies out there?

From the first sniff it was a love. Nothing i could imagine that could resemble it. It’s a different genre. Smells expensive and adictive.

I love it but I think it's misnamed. This seems more spicy/woody with a backdrop of yellow and white florals. Very unisex.

Addictive. It doesn’t act like an extrait, but beautifully executed and definitely worthy of full bottle for me.

I love my big florals, I love Dominique Ropion, I love D'Orsay, and yet....I just can't come around to this one :-( The very first time I smelled it I got a weird, inexplicable toothpaste note (I guess this was the medicinal / cough syrup note some people pick up on in the opening), which caused me to quickly put it back on the shelf and back away in mild shock. I decided I needed to order a sample in order to give this a fair and proper test. The second time, I thankfully did not get the weird toothpaste note, but still detected a bit of thick medicinal syrup, which thankfully fades but there is a STRONG sweetness in this that just overwhelms my nose. I guess this is the niche La Vie est Belle (one I also tried and tried to love before admitting it was just. too. sweet!! And also worked on by the master Mr. Ropion ). Update: Upon sampling this a second time, it's growing on me....significantly! I think I had to get over what I initially expected this to be (maybe more of a big white floral?) and instead begin to appreciate Flower Lust for what it IS: a thick, yellow, tropical, benzoin heavy floral, better suited to autumn and winter wear. Now that I've become more familiar with this, I could imagine wearing this a lot in the cooler months. The ylang ylang and benzoin combo are really enchanting me! This is why spending time with samples makes a world of difference!

At first I got immediately reminded of Tubéreuse Astrale by Maison Crivelli but much more spicy and fruity, yet no tuberoses or cinnamon in the fragrance... weird to my nose x). Some people mentioned that it's a "patchouli bomb", I don't like patchouli in most composition, here it's present but absolutely not the main character. It's projecting a LOT from my skin with the Tonka/sandalwood vanilhic idea coming quite fast in the dry. It's good, not ground breaking, will definitely remind you of something else, but it's a nice strong floral that's unisex to me but might lean on the feminine side on the air.

It’s a concoction of beautiful fruits (I get stone fruits?) and flowers, and then suddenly... do I smell coffee? There’s a lightly roasted, spicy sweetness that lingers at the tip of my nose every time I take a sniff. A big dollop of honey weaves through it as well. It’s fascinating how a perfume so solar and floral can still feel cocooning and warm. To me, this is a fragrance for every season except summer—it leans more toward cooler weather. Is this a groundbreaking scent? Not really. But is it a beautifully blended floral with an addictive, sophisticated touch? Absolutely.

The opening scent is actually quite interesting — it smells like preserved plums, and also a bit like overly sweet cough syrup. Then it gradually shifts into pink pepper, tonka bean, and ylang-ylang, with an odd plasticky vibe. The dry-down is a bit better than the mid-notes — the plastic smell fades away.

To me this smells like a re-worked Amarige, also by Domimique Ropion. I loooved Amarige when I first smelled it in the very early 90s and then inherited a bottle from my sister who couldn't wear it and, yeah, it wore you. I couldn't wear it either. Flower Lust feels like a nod to those late 80s/early 90s huge white florientals like Georgio etc. I think it's a love it or hate it deal. Flower Lust is a bit tamer and maybe slightly more expensive smelling and maybe less obnoxious but it still feels a bit kitschy to me. I'd be so curious to hear from Mr Ropion himself about his inspo. I kind of like it for the nostalgia, but not sure I'd wear it .

this perfume is like psychedelic love, but on steroids

First off, all I get is pepper.I did not have to glimpse at the note breakdown to know that's what I could smell. This is interesting to me as I usually find pepper quite subtle and tricky to detect in fragrances. Flower Lust then becomes a bit of a sharp floral. I do not pick up on any amber or sweetness so I'm confused by the pyramid of main accords on here. I'm not sure I like this. Edit: not sure if my sample has had a chance to macerate. But upon revisiting my sample it smells quite different and markedly improved. On the second and third visit I get more of a spicy ambery sweet floral. The orange blossom is quite dominant and that isn’t my floral note of choice but it is pretty and the performance is decent.

This fragrance is overwhelmingly sweet, intensely perfume-forward, and extremely dense. I’ve started calling this category “floral rouge”: a red velvet dress, an evening scent; bold, loud, and soooo perfumey. It’s orange blossom, but stripped of any delicacy; nothing soft or graceful remains. The name "lust" fits; this is a lethal kind of lust. With patience, it eventually moves toward a patchouli–tonka–vanilla base, but even there it feels cloying to me. A definite pass. Tag(s): sweet, perfumey, cloying, floral rouge, loud

Flower Lust opens with creamy white florals and I get a hint of rose thought not listed in the notes. It softens into warm balsamic amber. A beautiful evolution on paper that somehow never quite lands on my skin. It has a vintage quality that's either charming or dated depending on your taste, and on my skin it lands firmly in the latter. Not unpleasant, just not mine.

Dense, sweet, creamy yellow/white floral. No freshness, nothing to balance out the composition. Overwhelming, yet boring.

Very strong, very sweet. I am not a ylang ylang or orange blossom fan, and these notes are the powerhouse behind this fragrance. I find the benzoin, tonka, and both the black and pink pepper notes pretty present, but in a good way; the only bad thing is that they are not enough to balance out the sickly sweetness of the floral notes. I would not call this a woody or musky fragrance. It's just sweet, dry florals with a little something interesting going on underneath. It's extremely sweet; to me the dry down smells like Smarties candies. It's got that chalky dry sweetness of the dust that would cling to your fingers after eating them. I hate these floral notes and I don't like smelling like candy, so I'm giving this one a 2/10. It's only the pepper that's getting it anything more than a 1.

Flower Lust by D'Orsay is an artistic and very creative framing of an eponymous heart of ylang-ylang and orange blossom. These are warm, sunny florals brimming with character that present a little way from the jasmine, rose or gardenia you may be expecting. The focal point of the fragrance is the way the head changes the heart and the base changes it too. I'm sure there is a metaphor in there. In the beguiling heart you have pink and black pepper which adds a spiciness to the florals. The base is patchouli and a gorgeous clean sandalwood in the main, lent aromatics with a subtle sprinkling of vetiver and then sweetened with a cozy tonka and benzoin hug. There's no Ambroxan or Iso E Super here and the tonka, benzoin and patchouli are the anchors doing the fixative heavy lifting which for an EDP that lasts all day on your skin like this one does is all the more impressive. This is Dominique Ropion on top form. Peculiarly, the benzoin and tonka are pushed in an unusually powdery, almost creamy direction by the florals and go iris-adjacent even though there is no iris or orris in this. It really is a very clever bit of olfactory performance art. The sandalwood and patchouli grow in prominence in the drydown but interestingly the florals do not really drop out in the way they often do. It is strong but not shouty; it uses its power with restraint. It is really, really, really good. I was trying to explain to a friend of mine recently the difference between designer and niche perfumery and I didn't mention this one but sort of wish I had because it is a wonderful example. Flower Lust is masterfully blended notes done in a way that rewards a bit of knowledge and understanding of what you are smelling. It isn't just your run-of-the-mill designer floral and it forcefully refuses to adhere to any gender specific pigeonholing. I've been on an incredible run of form recently in terms of trying new bottles and samples and it has been win after win after win, but this is as good as anything I've got my nose on this year. It is absolutely magnificent and the definition of full bottle worthy for me. Three Word Summary - Floral Niche Wonder Layering Combination - Sous Les Pins by Chloe over the top. Outfit Suggestion - forceful, complex florals in the office? Yeah? Yeah. Scent - 9/10 Drydown - 9/10 Sillage - 9/10 Bottle/packaging - 9/10 Performance - 9/10 45/50

Straight out of the gate, this is a patchouli BOMB. Like an assault on the senses, unless you're the strange kind of creature who adores patchouli above all else (you terrify me, but I admire you.) Slowly though, the patchouli retreats slightly to the backseat and lets something much more subtle and lovely unfold. Like other reviewers, I get stone fruits- something purple, rich and ripe, swaddled in warm woods, and then as it dries down sweetly glowing benzoin and heady yellow florals take the fore... and a touch of something softly leather or suede too, even though that's not in the notes?! It reads utterly unisex, to me. This feels like being the main character at a glamorous, intimate 1930s party; the lights are turned down low, champagne glasses tinkle and snippets of scandalous conversation float by hinting at the promise of debauchery later in the evening. Sandalwoody incense burns next to the fireplace, with two huge vases of exotic yellow bouquets atop the mantel. In the middle of a table sits a centre-piece of glistening, inviting plums sat on a bed of greenery and reflecting deep golden light. You're gorgeous, and everyone wants to speak to you. Of course, you leave before midnight, because you're far too sophisticated to indulge in the lust-filled fun that inevitably comes next.

Without reading the notes I think that I smell a witch’s brew of purple fruits and flowers like grapey jasmine and plum. Could this be the gen z niece of original Lou Lou or Poison? But it all makes better sense after checking the actual intended notes. My nose reads this as mainly Ylang and Benzoin, orange blossom and patchouli, quite nice for anyone who likes a dramatic, dark floral. It’s dense and rich with creamy sweet florals but it’s saved by the spicy, crackling texture of benzoin, pepper and patchouli. This kind of intense cheesecake of a perfume feels correct as an extrait named Flower Lust. I also am reminded of original TF Black Orchid...but streamlined, better balanced, without the dreadful “truffle” notes. Give it a try if any of that sounds good. 3.5 out of 5.

I really thought it would be a polite floral, something pretty, sugary, easy. What I got was dense - thick, creamy, a bit spicy, yellow-and-white petals soaked in honey. Like stepping into a room where every flower is in perfect bloom at once, and you're inhaling all of them at the same time. It's overwhelming in that intoxicating way where you want to stay, even if your lungs are already full. It just wraps around you and doesn't pause to let you catch your own thoughts. There's no green, no sharpness, nothing cut through the sweetness. I just wish it had a touch of air, some contrast, something to let the blooms exhale. There is definitely beauty here - but also it's a bit predictable, like perfection you can admire but never be surprised by.

I think Florista nailed it with "grapey jasmine". That's exactly my first impression. But a whole lot of other things come into the fold very fast soon after, and very few of them have much to do with flowers. Everything about this is EXTRA. Super big time. At the same time, it's certainly dark and dramatic. But I do not sense any actual 80s or vintage in this. It's way too modern of a take. I'm intrigued enough to try it. I miss rich heavy hitters that were feminine, but absolutely un "ladylike". I think Y2K was the golden era for scent for me because Extra was the word, yet most scents had substance. I hope this is a modern return to that. Tell me more, Flower Lust.

I really thought I was going to love this one from the nose of Dominique Ropion who has created masterpiece florals such as Alien and Carnal Flower. But this was underwhelming to me. Despite having no tuberose listed, this reminds me of L’orchestre’s Bouquet Encore and so it gives me a general white floral and black pepper vibe with some added tonka bean. It is an extrait so this did last for ages on my skin but the projection and silage was poor. This isn’t a bad fragrance by any means but I would say maybe a bit boring as this has been done before and would be redundant in my collection.

Very similar to Tubereuse Astrale, super sweet floral with nice pink pepper on top. A bit plastic-y. Not vintage style at all, too sweet and modern. I do see some similarities to Black Orchid but just the floral part, this isn’t as ‘earthy’ or whatever that stand out note is in BO, maybe the truffle. Very in your face and I feel like ‘bright’ is a good word to use to describe this fragrance. I’m a floral lover and I feel happy when I spray this one! A mood lifter for me!

Flower Lust by D’ORSAY smells like one of those Raya dates. Impeccably groomed. Loud. Talking endlessly about his achievements, his friends, his latest project, the summer house in France, the last piece of art he bought from a small gallery in Copenhagen. He isn’t trying to impress me - he’s trying to impress himself. To reassure himself how beautiful his life looks from the outside. He’s not a bad man. Just overwhelming.

Drop dead gorgeous. Wouldn't call this floral, it shifts from soft to bold and becomes even more interesting with the hour. The pink pepper is a perfect match with the sandalwood along with the pinch of patchouli that lingers in the back. This fragrance has so much personality and it is really uplifting and fun to wear, the dry down is ambery almost. Go and try this out immediately!

Literally dripping in sex appeal. It's not called 'Flower Lust' for no reason. It's suggestive and wanton. Maybe a little dirty because of those indolic florals and the sandalwood. It's that effortlessly sexy French girl with her tousled but still perfect hair and her Marlboros and Bouche Mordue. It's a bit much for me personally but I think I could get used to it!

This perfume doesn't really seem to showcase flowers. For the reason that it's titled after flowers, but almost clearly isn't putting them on the stage, I dislike this perfume. I feel like the note breakdown is pretty much false except for the pink pepper. Thank you to TPG for giving followers a chance to try this one. Not for me.

Wanted to love this, but this felt underwhelming-- it was missing something. It starts off unisex with sexy pink & black pepper, but towards the end it leans masculine to me. For those who want a fem version look into Bouquet Encore. Id say it's a secret weapon of mine-- it has the same pepper top but not as intense.

On my skin, Flower Lust smells humid, like patchouli and wet stems. The vetiver lends some woodiness. I should have known that a fragrance featuring pepper and orange blossom was not going to work for me. Contemporary perfumers stick orange blossom into everything, and I am over it.

It’s a no for me. The pepper is WAY too intense imo.. All I get is an orange blossom and pepper bomb. If you like a peppery perfume, then this might be for you. I really tried to like this one. It dries down to a masculine scent

All the below reviews are right. This is so sexy and alluring to me, a real head turner for sure! I wore it nearly every day this past week as it’s addictive to smell. Woody, slightly sweet and a little naughty ;)

Got a sample of this, unique opening but drys down to a more subtle side effect with a hint of florals. I would test before blind buying. Cant really give it a rating but id say its good not great for my taste.

I heard from a Influencer and I bought a sample of this parfume, maybe its just me, it gives me a bad Vibe, its too dense for my taste

A dark, sultry, jammy fragrance. There is a strong grape aroma that flirts with the florals. Very polarizing, very addicting.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Easily my new favourite scent. Deep and woody, sweet and seductive, it's everything. I'm obsessed.
