Ambery Saffron

Yeeeaaahhh...so I am one of those very annoying people. Yes. It’s true. I am obsessed with all things Baccarat Rouge 540. I’m so in love with it, I even get a giddy, opiate-like high by reading commentary from all the haters in the peanut gallery. Oh, yes. I am THAT kind of irritating, slap happy obsessed, BR540 fan-crushing kinda gal. The only thing that keeps me from making this fragrance my signature is the price! I can’t afford to wear it every day, not even the smallest bottle this house offers (1.2 ounces) Wearing this as much as I wear my actual sig (Indigo by Nest) would subsequently mean I’d have to purchase refills every 4-6 weeks... and the refills aren’t any cheaper than buying the same amount in a whole. new. bottle. *SIGH* I REALLY love it. But I ain’t rich ya’ll. As such, I have tried 9 (yup! NINE) different frags marketed as BR540 “dupes”. 3 were good, 2 were just “meh” and 4 of them were godawful. Out of the three good ones, Dossier’s Ambery Saffron is the ONLY one I have found that nails all five aspects in both the BR540 edp and extrait that I love: 1. That gorgeous, floaty, mouth watering aroma of hot metal and warm hand-spun candy floss 2.The mineral oceanic breeze of ambergris, courtesy of Ambroxan 3. Subtle saffron 4. Woodsy cedar/fir/iso e super 5. Deep, sweet floral This seems to be the only dupe that has it all. Now, during the first 3-5 minutes after spraying, there’s a smell that reminds me of what the inflatable pools my kids used to play in smelled like after filling them from a rubber garden hose. But it’s not a bad smell... in fact it’s actually sweet and I find it nostalgic.😅 But if that’s not a pleasant smell for you, not to worry! It fades after 3-5 minutes and ushers in the beauty. Ambery Saffron is actually kind of an intermediary between BR540 and the BR540 extrait. It has the spice and airy spun sugar of the OG, and the deeper sweetness and woodsiness of the extrait. For this reason (and because it’s only $50!), I’d very happily wear just this, but...as very well-made and lovely a dupe as Ambery Saffron is, it’s still a dupe. It simply cannot beat the superior blend and performance of the OG and extrait. I literally save moldy purse change to own both, because I cannot do with just one or the other😅 I lightly layer the two, because I’ve found that both together enhance the scent and performance of the other. In fact, I also lightly spritz Ambery Saffron on top of the two OG’s after 7-8 hours to refresh the scents. I know that seems like it would make me a walking, choking scent bomb. But surprisingly, if utilized in this manner and with a light hand?—it’s PERFECT, I promise. I discovered that when I do this, Ambery Saffron actually works as a kind of fragrance enhancement and “fixative” for the other two, extending the performance AND enriching the fragrances of all three. And the best part?—by doing this, I’m able to make two 1.2 ounces of the BR540 edp and extrait last for almost a year, while only having to purchase Ambery Saffron about every 3-4 months. I’m definitely a BR540 gal, but not a moneyed one!😅 So, if you love BR540 as much as I do (and, like me, don’t have a fat bank account!), go getcha some Ambery Saffron. Or if you have either or both of the OG’s, try layering them with AS...and enjoy hours of smelling like you’re living in the top 1% with massive cash pools secured in oversea bank accounts. I’ve never tried the original Baccarat Rouge 540, but I absolutely adore Dossier’s Ambery Saffron. Until now, I’ve always gravitated towards light and airy fragrances — but this one completely swept me off my feet. The opening carries a touch of sweetness, but never cloying or overbearing. Instead, it melts into a warm, seductive depth that feels both sophisticated and addictive. I honestly can’t stop smelling my own wrist when I wear it — it’s that captivating. What excites me most is seeing how it will perform in colder weather, where I imagine the warmth will bloom even more beautifully. Dossier was actually my first foray into fragrance, and this fragrance was one of the first ones I ordered. Little did I know that I had ordered a dupe of a very popular, very expensive fragrance. I sample BR540 every time I walk by it in the department store, and I understand why it's so popular. It's shimmery, warm, sensual, and unique. I don't detect much of a difference between this dupe and the original. I know people also say Ariana Grande Cloud is a good dupe for BR 540, but honestly, Ariana Grande Cloud is much sweeter, and a very lovely scent in its own way. That being said, this fragrance makes me feel beautiful and I get so many compliments on it. I'm glad there's dupes out there for such a lovely high end fragrance.

It‘s a great Fragrance. I‘m a man and I chose this as my new signiture scent. I have gotten a few compliments from people i know, even from those that i didn’t expect to like it. My best guess is that everybody smells what they want to smell from it, which makes this extremely versatile. I can’t tell you the best time of year to wear it, i can’t tell you whether it’s for night or day. It just smells delicious. Although, if you first smell it, give it a few minutes, don’t judge too early. The first few minutes are very sweet, it tones down though

After dropping and breaking by bottle of BR540, I was mad over the $350 loss, so I resorted to finding a good dupe. I've purchased and tried quite a few, and IMO, and this is the best one. It's super affordable and silage is good. Longevity is ok, definitely not the longevity and silage of BR540, but I'd rather have $300 in my pocket and spray it again. Buy a purse spray and decant it and you're good to go. It has the airy-spun sugar, iso e super, saffron goodness. It's not as sweet to me but I actually prefer that.

I love this but is it just me or is the dossier packaging too cheap. The mailman didn’t spare my poor bundle any mercy and when i got it, the magnet lid fell off and was dented. The product had leaked. I squarely blame poor packaging. But I truly enjoy this scent even if it is purely intimate and just for my pleasure

I love this. I find it to be better than BR540, as BR540 is pretty weak to my nose. Compared to other dupes I’ve smelled, this one is the best, the most gorgeous and strong. The Finery dupe is very nice as well, but something about this one is a little better. I often layer those two actually. 10/10

I've smelled BR540 in store, and I would say this is a pretty similar scent. This has great longevity and projection. I've had so many compliments from my coworkers on this! I walked in and my mgr said I smelled good - mind you I was like 6 feet away from her (keep in mind that I am an oversprayer)

Great dupe for BR540! No matter what anyone says, it's a beautiful, original fragrance. And, if you are a "clean ingredients" girl, then this one is even better as their website states, "Our fragrances are 100% non-toxic, cruelty-free, vegan, and eco-friendly, so that you can indulge guilt-free."

This is an excellent fragrance. Lasts a long time, great sillage, tons of compliments, and amazing price point. Smells rich, two or three sprays especially on clothing lasts forever. If you like BR 540 but find it has a medical vibe, give this a try. I think I actually prefer it to the original.

I really enjoy this, and i prefer it to red temptation, because it has that airy, cotton candy type smell as in the OG. Only downside is that it doesn't last super long on me, which is unusual for this dna, maybe 4-5hrs, moderate projection. At this price you can reapply though!

Is the market incredibly saturated with baccarat dupes? Absolutely. However, I think they executed this one well and I find this smelling very lovely on myself and others. In my opinion this smells much more natural and less synthetic than Cloud by Ariana.

Closest dupe of BR540 I’ve smelled. Slightly smoother than the original, but very nice. I lose the smell very quickly so I can’t speak on the longevity, but I do on actual BR540 as well. Well worth the money if you want to try a very close dupe of BR540.

I haven't smelled the original BR but this smells wonderful. I sprayed on a sweatshirt and a week later the smell is still lingering on the fabric. This is a great value fragrance if you're not trying to go broke smelling good.

This is my third bottle of this perfume. I go nose blind to it, but this is hands down my most complimented perfume. People can smell it three feet away. Nice scent trail. I wear this for work.

Edit: After sitting with this scent still on my wrist/arm for over 2 1/2 hours now, I have to agree with other reviewers about the Plum note. The Plum seems to be why I'm not as excited about this scent as I could be. It's throwing me off & I think that note is the reason why I can't bridge the gap between this perfume and the delicious memory of the original BR540 (I still have some left in my tester). It's still a good dupe though, even if only 70-75% there imo. I actually prefer ALT Crystal Smash to this, in overall likeability, for my nose. I plan on trying their plain Crystal 23 eventually. Original: I decided to give this a try before buying BR540. I will be buying the BR540 lol. This smells very similiar, especially in the beginning and at the end. But, as it sits on my skin, the deeper notes fade within 30 minutes and it becomes linear quickly. On me, it has a slightly artificial quality, with a light medicinal note rather than an airy, cool metallic one. It doesn't have the deep, mysterious complexity, or the burnt sugar scent, that seems to linger on my skin throughout the very long wear (into next day), as with the original BR540 (hence the cost difference). But it's a decent, close dupe that has good longevity on me. I had never smelled BR540 until recently, about a week ago actually, and I definitely understand why it became sooo popular long ago.

On its own, this is just straight up good. The longevity is decent (around 7 hours) and it smells pretty. Yeah the opening is a bit latex/medicinal but it dries down to that spun sugar unisex gorgeousness shortly after. It’s mouthwatering...I want to eat it. It’s well balanced, airy yet grounded. It’s strong too- be careful of over spraying. I like this one better than the OG. I tried this at Target and could not stop thinking about it, and would make trips to Target with my daughter just to run in and spray ourselves with Dossier and run out. Finally got my hands on a cheap bottle on Mercari and have zero regrets. It’s for when I want a vibe that’s mood-lifting without being too sweet. If you know BR 540 you know this scent. It’s an almost exact dupe but better (trust). I didn’t buy this because I wanted a dupe of BR540, I bought it because it’s just *good*. I’m not a huge fan of Dossier and was pretty disappointed in their Floral Marshmallow (though my daughter loves that one) so I wasn’t expecting to love this one so much as a standalone fragrance.

Just purchased this fragrance. It’s quite similar to BR540. The plum note however stands out quite a bit, making the scent a tad fruitier (think a hint of artificial grapes). I personally love this because unlike most dupes, this one doesn’t make me feel nauseous. The amber is often too much in the dupes but the plum note in this balances it out well. There isn’t much of a mossy undertone either which I love and also feel it makes the scent slightly more feminine leaning. I’m not quite sure if the scent is long lasting / has good silage as I go nose blind shortly after spraying but I can get whiffs of it occasionally. Overall, 7/10. As for a BR540 clone, maybe a 70% match.

Dossier has done it again!! I never smelled BR540, but I must say the YouTube reviews market this as a high comparison of BR540. If anyone has ever eaten or smelled frozen cotton candy grapes. This is the exact scent. The amber is there, the metallic is there, and the cotton candy scent is there. The scent is very subtle. Longevity is excellent, the scent lasted shower to shower, and the smell was still there as if I just sprayed it on. Smells amazing and I would buy again. I did not spray it on my clothes, but I did lay down in my bed and two days later, I still smell it on my sheets. It is a wonderful scent 10/10.

In the Race to Come Close to BR540: this is coming on strong and to the front . Be warned: it needs a while to gather strength as well as - yes you will go nose blind but OTHERS with catch it on you. And like ALL clones of BR540- it will NEVER smell straight up like the original; it will smell like the original and the extract had a baby. You will not get the "airiness" of the original either. Available at Wal-Mart now. $Around $40.00 or less. GRADE: B. LTWZRTAIWDB ( Layer this with Zara Red Temptation and it will do better!).

UPDATE , JUNE 2025 . So I have had this for about a year. My bottle is half full. That said the performance on this really EXPANDED. I'm gonna put this up on the top shelf of BR540 clones w/ a price that is fair (The DUA clone is better - possibly THE BEST but you only get a TINY bottle for $60.00 ! And that will get used up in a month or two. ) So - if you have the patience , love clones and never tried this ; go for it !

This is a unisex fragrance that works well year-round and layers nicely with other scents. I had high hopes for it, but it didn’t stand out compared to other dupes in this category. It smells like a watered-down version of this scent profile. It's lighter, airier, and less impactful. There are definitely better options available that feel richer, stronger, and more refined. Disappointed. 5/10 Sillage 6/10 Longevity 6/10

I love this smell initially , but after about 20 to 30 minutes I had to wash it off. Even after washing it off it was still there lol i will say it has good staying power!! Not my kind of smell personally. Something is maybe a bit too masculine for me personally. The spicy side of this is just not something my nose can tolerate! Nice smell, I just don't want it on my body !!! I do see how people like it .

For the price it’s a good br540 dupe smells very similar it has the sweet saffron smell all the way through I will complain initial spraying has that alcohol come through before dry down which seems consistent for these cheap br540 dupes but for the price ehh what can you say. Projection and sillage are what you can expect good but nothing crazy

This is a really valid dupe of BR540. It is STRONG and long lasting. The main differences are that Dossier leans more masculine vs BR540 leans more feminine. Maybe because Dossier is missing that touch of more airy sweetness. Overall all the dupes lean more masculine. Nothing like Baccarat, but Ambery Saffron is very wearable :)

Rather good, actually. I have the Fragrance World (B Rouge) dupe of BR540, and it is heavier in fir. This one has a thicker, richer vanillic base. I believe it is the most pleasing of the two, though both are excellent value and good quality scents that strongly resemble one another. Recommended. :)

I blind bought this not knowing it was a B540 dupe. I really hate B540, it smells like hospital hallway. Unfortunately this is no different :( its very close to B540, not the same though. Lighter and less closing. Instead of they cleaned the hallway 10 min ago, they cleaned the hallway 1 hour ago.

I absolutely love any and everything Bar540. This is no exception! It is my happy place. The saffron and woody notes. Heaven! I got a sample of this and now I need all the bottles. ♥️ Rate: 8.5/10

I go completely noseblind to this. I don't know if anyone can even smell it. But if I spray this and then rewear the hoodie the next day, I can clearly smell it so I'm not sure.

I usually apply fragrance more conservatively but still get compliments. The longevity and the sillage are great. The scent is sweet and fresh but not very nuanced.

Do "the test". Spray a t-shirt or underwear with this. Place in a plastic zip lock bag. Take it out the NEXT DAY - after a few minutes: what do you smell ??

i have had this for about 5 months and finally got the chance to compare it to br540. unexpectedly i love this dossier dupe so much more. it has that sweet airy and woody quality br540 has but i don’t pick up on the metallic and medicinal quality that is present in br540. i absolutely love this one and could wear it whenever. i think it’s inoffensive and you get whiffs throughout the day of this pleasant woody and sweet aroma. an absolute banger in my opinion

This one has an ungodly staying power. I literally flew a plane under 3 layers of sweat and low lead gas and metal this perfume stuck to me 12 hours later. Smells very fancy, I’ve never loved saffron so the amber accent was less than pleasant. I am hoping it grows on me but will be regifting in the future, likely.

this was my first blind buy. it is a little sweet but it does evoke a warm cozy feeling. I wish i could like vanilla but i really just cant and it dries down to a vanilla smell that turns very sweet after a while. it does last a long time though. maybe come winter i will learn to like it again.

i was hoping to smell expensive or cool, but honestly it smells like an obama era hollister. trying too hard to be cool, and a touch too expensive (compared to the rest of dossier’s fragrances).

at first, it smells a little floral but dries down very earthy and smokey. it’s not very strong but is long lasting. i don’t like it but i also don’t hate it.

I love the smell of it, but it doesn’t last on me very much at all. Considering letting it macerate for a while to see if it changes anything.

I bought this YEARS ago when Dossier was still kinda new and did not know it was a BR540 dupe... I didn't even know about BR540 back then. There is a lot of mixed reviews on this but I really dislike it! It smells like cooked food or like my clothing after I've been cooking w/ garlic & herbs for a while and all the oils and smells embedded themselves into the fabric. This is the kinda smell I try to avoid, not douse myself in. I now avoid anything that says it resembles BR540 because of this monstrosity. I also think that Dossier has some weird ingredient or something they put in almost all their perfumes that makes them smell 'off' in a way... I cannot put my finger on what it is but I have over 10 from them (even a couple original, non 'inspired by') and they all have this THING. Does any one else know what I am talking about? Maybe it's just their own DNA and base they use but I'm not a fan. The only 2 that I can stand (that I have purchased) are Musky Aldehydes which is supposed to be insp. Byredo Blanche which I have never smelled and didn't buy it based off that. No one is ever going to understand this one but it smells like 2 things to me (review on it's page) and the other is Ambery Cherry, TF Lost Cherry and it also still has that THING but minimal so it's tolerable (but not a 1:1 for LC).

When I first bought this bottle, I couldn't smell a single thing. I knew I had to let it sit for a while and then write a review, so that's what I did. Now, at least I can smell something. Straight up alcohol. That's what it is. In one spray, it's gone. It doesn't even last on clothes. I love, love, LOVE a strong perfume but for it to be strong when you first spray it and then disappear within seconds is a no for me.

Im very glad the burnt plastic smell is not just me. Once that subsides it actually smells pretty close to BR540. However the projection and longevity are pretty lackluster. For the price Dossier is asking I'd look other places when looking for a BR540 dupe, the plastic smell in the opening really turns me off.

It smells okay. Definitely can tell it has cheaper components than its inspiration. The biggest issue for me is that it caused an allergic reaction on my skin. Luckily I only bought a travel sized bottle to try out. Looks like I'll be giving the one away to a friend in the future or throwing it in the trash.

I wish I was one of those people that smelled the sweet, fluffy, goodness but no.... On ME this smells like freshly cleaned ashtray..... It's metallic, it's medicinal, while also being very bland. Projection, and wear time is pretty average in my opinion. I think this would suit literally any season though.

This is obviously a bac rouge dupe, which I personally don't like, I wish I did but I am not a fan. It does smell a bit piss-esque to me. Good value though and muuuch nicer than the who is Elijah dupe (nomad)

This has to be one of the most abhorrent fragrances I have ever had the displeasure of smelling in my life. BR540, which this claims to be a dupe for, is one of my all time favorite scents. I am not solely judging it on the basis that it fails to replicate the scent profile of BR540, it’s simply a horrible product. Upon the initial spray, I was met with nothing but alcohol, I thought I was completely nose blind to this fragrance until it hit me. It reeks of latex and what I can only describe as burnt plastic, in the most unsettling way possible. There is one very specific olfactory memory that I can tie it to, and it’s breathing in through a medical anesthesia mask before surgery. I am disturbed. This fragrance absolutely assaulted my nostrils and quite honestly ruined my night. Hey, points for longevity since I can’t seem to get rid of it no matter how hard I scrub my wrist. Maybe it’s down to my personal skin chemistry, but this fragrance is downright awful and I am NEVER the one to hate a fragrance to this extent. This is literally my first review because I had to warn others of the toxic abomination that is Ambery Saffron by Dossier.

I made the mistake of spraying this on my arm at the store. Absolutely stomach churning. I've never smelled a perfume I actually hated until now. I had to go home and scrub my arm - three times with three different soaps and I can still smell it. Never tried the actual BR and after this experience I have zero desire to.

Top notes: Burnt wires, bleach and hand sanitizer. It then dies down to this pharmaceutical apple note. Absolutely vile and a shameful waste of $20.

First off I have never smelled the OG Baccarat ok sue me well don't actually bc I'm poor, that being said this is one of my top faves in my collection. I got this early on my fragrance journey and maybe that's what inspired me to get more into it. Ambery Saffron is beast mode, don't listen to what others say it they are invalid it WILL last very long and get you complimented no matter what. Even when I tried to be subtle and spray one spray, my hairdresser immediately asked me what I'm wearing and I was like oh crap I didn't want this attention today lol. For me it smells like fruit gummies if the smell was elevated to the sexiest classiest level, not too floral not too gourmand not too spicy. Just fruity warm amber and a bit of saffron to top it all off. It has the most beautiful, warmest, sweet balsamic depth. When it dries down all the notes remain the same, I think the oakmoss is what makes it so addictive. It's best for date nights or summer outings. If you want it to be more girly or daytime leaning --it pairs really well with Pink Sugar or the pink Sol de Janerio, since it does have that cotton candy vibe but it's more classy and grown up when worn by itself. I also have the Brown Sugar Babe Baccrat dupe body oil to pair with it and that shit is also like potent and lasts all day. The classiest fruit punch addictive scent there is!! A true pheromone elixir that is sure to get you laid so be careful out there and keep your location on LMAO . Forever repurchasing this , on my second bottle!!
