Caramelized Lavender & Hazelnut

For reference: I am an early-20's cis man with an office job. I was gifted this fragrance as a Valentine's gift when it first came out a year ago, and for that reason alone it has a special place in my heart. That said, the opening is strange, I don't get the hazelnut at all. It opens very floral and soapy, and it's really in-your-face about it. It's like the fancy goat milk soaps you find at art fairs, a little. It's not bad smelling, per-se, but if you really dislike soapy smells this is not for you. After that, however, it mellows out and becomes a light, creamy, floral-smelling number and is really quite pleasant. I don't get the suede on my nose a whole lot, but others have told me they smell it when I've worn it. It doesn't last terribly long on my skin, maybe 5-6 hours, but it lasts FOREVER if it gets on your clothes. I've pulled things out to do laundry 2 weeks after wearing this and they still smell like this. All things considered, it's good for cooler weather and really shines in a social setting. Dossier's originals have been kinda hit-or-miss, bu this one is a safe buy if you enjoy florals.

This scent has grown on me so much. It's definitely different from what I expected, I still don't really smell any hazelnut or caramel. It's a very warm, androgynous floral. The lavender has a hint of citrus and those two together are really sharp, but then the base notes are more sweet and woody. I could understand this scent being too strong for some people. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it, I think because it's so unique and pretty intense for the first 20-30 minutes. I had a friend call it spicy (I've never thought of it that way), had another friend say all she could smell is caramel (...). Really I think this scent takes a while to wrap your head around, probably because the name sets up the wrong expectations, but it's a really cool balance between the cooler lavender smell and warmer woody notes. Most of the middle notes do fade in 1-2 hours so if longevity is the hill you die on, this might not be the one for you.

I thought I was going to hate it judging by the reviews but I actually like it a lot. Smells nothing like hazelnut though, maybe just a smidge when it dries. It smells more like a woodsy leather. More male than unisex but I'll take it lol.

This is so so dry!! It literally instantly made my nose feel dry. It's not smoky though it's like a baked dry, almost like a piece of clay after the first firing in a kiln. I tried it and so did my brother, I liked it much more on him as it's a touch masculine for me. Probably won't wear bc lavender makes me sneeze and it is prominent here. It's somewhere between a spa-like scent and a rustic booth at a craft fair, overall herbaceous and aromatic is my main take away. It isn't cool toned though, the nuttiness of it warms it up.

Unhinged Caramelized Lavender & Hazelnut stream of consciousness in 3... 2... 1... First Impressions: HMMMMMMMMM. I actually made a long Hmmmmmmmmm sound as my brain attempts to compute. As the initial blast of alcohol and confusion dissipates, I am hit with instant regret. Oh god, I smell like burnt tires and gasoline. Abort, abort. And not the typical "burnt tires" or "burnt latex" accord in the BR540-esque way, where it smells slightly medicinal and vaguely rubbery. No, this is more like... burnt tires doused in gasoline while someone burns five different incense sticks in the background. Okay, so... the above hideous assault to my nose sort of settles, and now I'm left with licorice? Or is it clove? Something minty, maybe? But oh god, the burnt tires are still there. The cacophony of smoke and incense sticks remains. The gasoline lingers. HELP. Alright, as the minutes pass, the abomination of notes gets pushed further into the background. It’s less offensive, but still present. Instead of standing inside a mechanic's shop where someone has doused tires with gasoline and is burning incense, I am now standing outside the garage. But the same trail wafts over to me, just diffused by the open air and the relief of distance. I do smell orange and lavender. I like orange and lavender. And there's apparently violet here, too. I love violet. But the hazelnut in the top notes... doesn’t smell like hazelnut to me at all. The smell, akin to liquid smoke, is drowning out any nice florals or nuttiness. I get a bitterness like orange peel, and the violet and lavender should add a dainty floral accord, but instead, it’s faint gasoline, licorice? mint? cloves? a myriad of incense sticks? and liquid smoke. A few more minutes pass. Did things get better? Yes... but I say this hesitantly. Maybe the patchouli in the blend is somewhat saving it, and I use somewhat very loosely. It’s starting to sweeten up on my skin and take on an interesting aroma. It’s starting to smell like a kitchen. No, I don’t really get hazelnut, but I get something very herbal. Herbs and spices like anise and cloves, bitter orange peels, and a bouquet of lavender and violets. Yes, I like the purple florals in here—it’s... interesting. The smell of clove/anise is coming across quite minty and cold, almost like minty toothpaste. Oh god, now that I said toothpaste, I definitely smell a toothpaste accord. It’s fiercely battling the warmer, more gourmand notes here. The patchouli is starting to take on a damp, earthy quality similar to Mugler's Angel. But... Oh man. The initial gasoline-burnt tires-incense stick accord has morphed into a minty toothpaste accord. MINTY TOOTHPASTE AND EARTHY PATCHOULI. If there’s hazelnut, maybe I can smell it, but do I realize that’s what I’m smelling? Probably not—my mind is lagging. Alright, now we're getting somewhere. There seems to be a caramelized, sugared violet and candied orange peel action going on, with what I assume is caramelized lavender because I definitely smell the lavender. So now it’s morphed into sugared, candied violet petals, lavender, and orange peel. But the minty toothpaste note (which feels like a blend of mint/anise/clove) remains, mingling with the now sweet yet swampy Mugler's Angel-esque patchouli. The initial gasoline and burnt tires from the top notes are still present but pushed further into the background. As it dries down, the patchouli becomes more prominent on my skin, as all the other unpleasant notes get pushed further back but are still there, making me hesitate about this fragrance. I’m going to let it sit and mature in my drawer for a month or two before trying it again. Hopefully, it becomes better blended, and some magic happens while it stews. I'll report back in a month or two with an update. Stay tuned.

Dry down smells like play doh on my skin .. and I had it on for 15 minutes and it gave me a headache, don’t like it

I got this in the Dossier discovery set. Super interesting fragrance. Opens with a lot of lavender and patchouli, and reminds me of a spa scent. I wasn't loving the scent of straight lavender OR the patchouli, as lavender can be a bit medicinal, but it quickly dries down to a suede-y, chocolatey type of scent, which I'm kinda digging. It's reminiscent of Mugler's "Angel," but better. I honestly don't smell hazelnut, but that's okay with me. I don't really like "nutty" scents, so this is something I'd consider wearing. I can see spraying this on right after a shower, before bed. It's got a cozy feel. Definitely a bedtime scent for me. I don't see myself wearing this during the day, as I like more sophisticated, girly type of fragrances. I still give it a 7/10 because I find it so interesting and cozy.
