Musky Aldehydes

I own Dossier Musky Aldehydes as well as Byredo Blanche. DMA is a great dupe for BB. They are so similar, at this point I am using DMA with abandon, and saving the BB a little bit longer. This is because I spent more on BB, and because I like the BB bottle design better. So I'd like to keep that one longer. But if I'd known I would have enjoyed the DMA scent equally, and if I'd known I was going to acquire the same Byredo bottle design in another of their fragrances (Inflorecense), I would have saved my money on BB and just bought DMA in the first place. Having said that, I like the DMA bottle too: it is nicely minimalistic in its design. And just like the cap for Byredo bottles, Dossier bottle caps are magnetic. Very satisfying to hear them snap shut. 🦋🧡🦋

So many YouTube perfume reviewers have hyped this one up! Musky Aldehydes is an interpretation of Blanche, by Byredo. It is such a beautiful sparkling clean freshie, with great longevity and silage. The aldehydes are glimmery and opalescent, giving the fragrance a sheer freshness and invigorating energy. Blanche is the Byredo interpretation of the color white, and you can feel this fresh, expansive influence in Musky Aldehydes. You could say that it is like a hug from a beautifully put together person who smells so good but you can't really pick out what fragrance notes you're smelling, only that they smell fantastic and that you're so glad to be in their presence! It is just a lovely scent, and can layer to add freshness and zing to a quieter scent.

I'm so glad Fragrantica finally added this to the database! Dossier was my introduction to perfumes back in 2022, and Musky Aldehydes was one of my first loves. It's clean, sheer, soapy, and floral. I've described it before as the scent of brisk morning air coming through the window of a room that's just been mopped. While this scent is definitely aldehydic and soapy, I don't find it sharp; the freesia and peony soften it into a lovely white-pink cloud. I haven't tried Byredo Blanche, but I think MA definitely holds its own. Plus, it's quite a compliment-getter!

Dossier discontinued this and I couldn't understand why. Today, I got my answer. They just released their own aldehydic/linen fragrance. They swapped out some of the florals for different ones and changed the base from sandalwood to a mossy/cashmeran one. Meh.

Ok, this fragrance took some time to grow on me. At first, I had a really hard time with the Aldehydic note, I am on a personal quest to find laundry/clean linen fragrances that I love, and Aldehydes as a note never came across as "clean linen" to me. It just reminds me of my great aunt. This, however, has come around to me as an almost squeaky-clean still wet out the washer- linen to the point where it smells perfumed and somewhat floral. I enjoy this, but I likely would not recommend it as "blind buy safe" unless you have 30 bucks.. then by all means! I am just a little neurotic, I think. It lasts moderately.. not an insane amount of time, but I am personally okay with that.

Blanche from Byredo was an instant love for me, but the performance was heartbreakingly abysmal on my skin. Then, I ran into a YouTube video on Dossier perfumes. The reviewer happened to have Musky Aldehydes (MA), which was supposedly a dupe for Blanche. I immediately ordered it. While not an exact match, MA is close. It evokes the smell of clean laundry drying in the sun. Plus, the performance is at least moderate with about 3 to 5 hours of longevity. I’m so happy to have found this dupe. So if you love fresh, clean fragrances, this is a full-bottle worthy one.

this is for only the realest of cleanheads and soap/powder truthers it’s giving the kind of sickly sweet smell that only those organic cleaning products have like it’s giving baby wipe but like the biodegradable crunchy mom kind that smell like white flowers it’s giving nursing home on the drydown like this fragrance probably goes crazy if you’re about to visit an old relative or go to a baby shower or something like that like you just have to commit to the lifestyle you know what i mean

I think it smells nice, it smells like fresh laundry but leveled up. However, whenever I wear this perfume my mom thinks i just smell like "old lady" (chanel n5 vibes) iykwim

I have no idea what BB smells like and didn't know this was the inspo. because I bought this way back when Dossier was still new and I just did their survey and bought all the suggested ones (bad mistake). I just like this one but not to where I'm going to personally wear it. I do like smelling it so I'll spray it in the air or on fresh linens because it smells like 2 specific things to me... 1. Hand washed linens sun-dried on a clothesline. Clean, fresh, soapy... a little sweet, faint citrus/herbal. 2. The inside of a prescription bottle of Ibuprofen (with the pills still inside). Sarsaparilla'ish. OK OK OK... I know #2 is going to get me some strange looks at the least but ya'll I am not kidding. I'm just an odd duck and I smell everything because I just have a uber sensitive nose and if a scent stands out to me, I remember it. Anytime I get a RX of Motrin, as soon as I open it, I take the deeeeeepest sniff because I just LOVE how it smells. Kinda like fizzy sarsaparilla or cream soda? My olfactory senses are crazy and I associate every scent with something... good or bad. This is a good one for me, LOL.

Clean crisp. Off the bat it smells like a familiar laundry detergent and almost a “sea shell soap” scent that I remember my grandmother having in her powder room. Right away I feel this isn’t something I’m going to wear often, but as it dries down I can see the allure of it. It becomes even closer to soap shavings over time. While it strays away from the cotton fresh it stays within the airy linen dried in a garden scent that I’ll probably keep to spray around the house during the spring, but most likely won’t wear myself.

Doesn’t stink but probably the strongest aldehydes I’ve ever come across outside of sticking my head in a box of powdered laundry detergent.

This smells like industrial public bathroom cleanser/deodorizer.

Way too chemically clean without elements of natural skin or sweat to balance it out. I always regret spritzing this one.

This is my favorite so far of all the Dossier fragrances I've tried. I haven't tried Byredo Blanche in a long time, so I'm not sure if this is a good dupe for it. But it smells lovely. It's musky and airy ... musky and clean, but not in a powdery way, and not in a "just showered" kind of soapy way (like J. Lo Glow, for instance ... it's not like that). It's fresh, soapy and pleasant. A bit like laundry detergent, but in the best way possible. Clean, but not "green" smelling. If you like musky scents or soapy scents, or scents that aren't too floral, give it a try.

I’m a bit split here. Im a notorious dupe hater, but I also have issues with Byredo because I feel like they overcharge for a product that is too simple and not artistic enough to justify the price sometimes. Blanche is one of my favorite fragrances but it’s just a simple soapy aldehyde. Honestly, this smells pretty damn good for the price.

“Aroma chemicals are only for the rich” to the poster below... anger about dupes? Maybe you should be angry that they charge hundreds of dollars for something that costs a dollar to make. None of these fragrances are Silver Iris Mist, nor do they source exclusive hard to get materials. Enjoy your dupe, don’t be a sucker..

Amazing dupe for Blanche. It’s more crisp, more like laundry detergent concentrate, and less “toilet cleaner” vibes compared to the byredo version.
